The bad - if you're used to a new, shiny club featuring stainless steel open areas and shiny tile FAC is not it. The buildings were built in the 70s and despite some remodeling at the West club both clubs are dated and somewhat dreary. At times it seems they are not even trying to (shower heads in the east club are mismatched, come on), tile is dingy, and both clubs give a worn out vibe. Some of the gym equipment has seen better days, esp at the east. The good - the staff is very friendly, their classes are varied and a lot of fun, both clubs have both a steam room and sauna plus a jacuzzi, and they always seem to have an ample supply of clean towels. Brand new when I joined, full of high quality equipment, the gym has everything you need for free weight and machine lifting, stretching and independent cardio. If you are looking for morning (before work) group workouts, this is not the place, but if you have your own workouts and a set of headphones you can use the spin bikes, fancy treadmills, elliptical and stationary cycles. The gym opens early- and the staff are friendly. They recognize all of the morning patrons after just a week or so of attendance. I never used personal training, daytime or evening classes. I also have never had an opportunity to use the climbing wall due to limited hours. All of these are offered as part of the monthly fee, and there are pay for classes and leagues just like other YMCAs. I recommend the Flagstaff YMCA. It's lost some polish over the years, but the Y remains an old standby for my strength and cardio. I think you would like it too.

He's very open minded, which is refreshing in an otherwise dogmatic sport. His wife, Kayla, teaches women's only BJJ class that my wife attends. She's also a great teacher and is very competent. The fact that this gym offers a women's only class is a major plus. If you are a woman and interested in trying BJJ, the women's only class is perfect. All the guys I met in the classes were super friendly and welcoming. The monthly rates are great. 24 hour access is great.

I had Jude give us some essentials to ensure we we safe, and also have a fun time. To add some context, I'm completely deaf and Jude totally took the time to review clearly, and then best part was validating each step to ensure I had clean knowledge transfer.
