Overall it was a really interesting and memorable experience, especially because of the beautiful nature and the whole atmosphere. The only downsides for me were the trails themselves in some areas they were very narrow, which made me a little nervous at times. Sometimes the horses were walking very close to bushes and plants, and my legs were getting scratched a bit, which was uncomfortable. Also, my saddle was attached unevenly, so I was sitting in a pretty awkward position for more than half of the ride. Eventually the instructor noticed it and explained how to adjust it properly, which definitely helped, but I do wish it had been checked earlier. Other than that though, it was still a very unique experience and I'm glad we did it

From the moment we arrived, everything felt calm and welcoming. Our guide, Sienna, was incredibly thorough in walking us through the basics and made sure we felt comfortable before heading out. As total beginners, safety was my biggest concern; but she has such a steady, reassuring energy that we felt confident the entire ride. The trail itself was breathtaking. Rolling Malibu mountains, wide open skies, and those views that make you stop mid-sentence. Sienna even paused at the most scenic spots to help us take photos, which I really appreciated. The horses had different personalities, I got a very calm horse and my husband's horse kept stopping along the way to snack on the bushes :) It was funny but I'm glad Sienna chose an easier one for me. Overall the whole experience felt thoughtfully run from start to finish. Small tip: You'll lose cell reception on the drive in and out of the mountains, so make sure you have your next destination's address saved or mapped ahead of time. If you're considering trying horseback riding, especially for the first time, this is such a special place to do it. We're already planning our return!

What started as a hobby to get out of the house turned into a passion of mine. When I started out at Ocean View Riding School I had never really been around horses. You don't realize how big they are until you are standing right next to one! Through my classes and awesome instructors I have learned many things. Not only do you get to learn how to ride horses (I ride Baby), but you also learn how to take care them. You will learn about how to saddle a horse as well as after care once you are done with your riding lesson. One of my favorite parts is being able to brush my horse down, it is very relaxing as well as satisfying! Overall, there are so many reasons why I love Ocean View Riding School. Here are a few things that come mind. 1. The horses 2. The instructors 3. The facilities 4. The classes/ summer camps 5. Did I mention the horses?! I recommend this riding school for all ages from little kids up to old adults like me!

This place is seriously the best kept secret as far as boarding facilities in LA goes! I came…read moreacross Patrick's info through a post on one of the local equestrian's FB pages earlier this year when I was looking for a horse to lease. I met with Patrick & Casey on my first visit. For starters, they were extremely knowledgeable about everything horse related. That aside, they were insanely warm and genuinely receptive. My 9 yo daughter started taking lessons with Casey and has learned so much. She's extremely patient but just thorough enough to keep my kid's attention. She knows her stuff, there's no question about that, and keeps her engaged while soaking it all in. Patrick is just as talented and has helped me get over a big hump which was my recently developed and thoroughly annoying fear I had after taking a pretty huge fall off a giant thoroughbred a few months prior. The experience had left the entire half of my body black and blue from impact (in addition to rolling 5 times like a lifeless rag doll..lol). My confidence had shriveled up into something unrecognizable. I had ridden horses my whole life starting when I was 8 and had always been pretty fearless. Needless to say, it was frustrating to say the least. I'm happy to say, he was triumphant at getting me through it! I was able to reach a mentally sound place by working seamlessly through it on one of their beautiful warmbloods, "Moose". By the end of my first lesson, I was confidently cantering again in stride with perfect leg yields. (Thank you Patrick!:) I seriously have nothing but great to say about these guys. As far as the facility goes, This place is sublime. It's so ridiculously peaceful and scenic here. It's truly amazing to see all the horses... just be...well horses, roaming naturally with the other horses in their specifically assigned pastures. The horses look genuinely happy and content. It never occurred to me that there was any other way to keep a horse other than being pent up in solitude in a compact X' by X' stall for most of the day. That is of course unless you have the fortunate enough to reside on a farm with lots of acres behind it to put them in. Which honestly, who around here really does? A+++ fyi- I find the negative 'review' that "Leah G." left, interestingly and hilariously ironic, especially since she literally refused to refund me the $350 dollars I paid her in advance for a package set of lessons right before she skipped town last July with absolutely no notice. I seriously considered filing a case with small claims, bc I'm a single mom and try hard to keep everything on a tight budget in order token our heads above water. I decided it wasn't worth the time and energy for the amount lost. It still stung and shocked me that someone would do that. So to see her on here attempting to give this place of all places, a bad name.. Clearly, by her own words she's incredibly unstable . Proceed with caution doing any kind of business with Leah Green. I mind as well have gotten 350 $1 bills and tossed them out my car window doing 80...would've at least got a little show in my rear view ...just saying

I brought a water bottle attached to a lanyard and both of these employees felt the need to judgmentally ask me if I "really needed that water bottle" and "are you sure that won't fall off?" Of course, the water bottle did fall off. When we got back, the man rudely and unnecessarily remarked "I told you it would fall off." I was paired with a terrible horse who did not follow any of my commands, constantly ate the vegetation, pinned his ears at and would try to bite the other horses for no reason, etc. I have some experience riding horses and I was doing my absolute best with this out-of-control horse. In turn, I was continually being barked at by the guides to "pull up on the reins and release, don't let him eat, kick him, go to the back, catch up to the rest of the group, keep him away from the other horses" etc. In addition, we rode through a very busy freeway overpass with multiple onramps/offramps and cars everywhere. We also passed right next to an active railroad. Of course, a train roared past a mere ten feet away from us. The horses spooked and it was a miracle that no one was thrown off. We were not given any prior warning that we would be riding in the middle of these very dangerous environments. If there was a warning in the waiver, I wouldn't have known because we were so rushed to sign it and had no time to read it. We finally made it to the actual beach and spent a mere 20 minutes on the shore before riding back through the danger zones towards home. I spent the entire ride pissed off, disappointed and feeling unsafe.

We met our guide at a private lot with direct beach access. (No crossing freeways or long rides to the beach) Our guide Steve was friendly and we were given clear instruction before mounting the horses. My husband had never been on a horse before and he was nervous but afterward said he had a great time and felt confident on the horse as we rode. While we did not book a private ride, our group ended up only being our family of three and it was a truly gorgeous day and awesome experience. If we lived local I would do this all the time!
