For my dad's birthday back in February we booked a ride for four people but because of Covid it was pushed back to just last weekend. I have had consistent contact with Janice and she has always been kind, considerate, and supportive of the dates we kept choosing and re-choosing over the last four months. I never called them, but if you e-mail them they'll get back to you in a few days. Getting to Will Rogers park wasn't hard, and after paying the $13 all day fee, we were lucky enough to find parking right by the Polo field (it was crowded)! After about a 10 minute mini hike on a dirt path we found the area where we would meet our guide and our horses! I forgot our guide's name, but she was a woman with a lot of knowledge on how to ride and steer a horse. She also used to dirt bike, I think. Anyways, she had a pretty tough time wrangling up three horses (they kept running away from her!) but after about 30 mins she managed to catch one of them. I felt bad because she had a fractured rib and she was running around trying to catch these naughty guys lol. Once we got our helmets and got on the horse, we were off! The trail wasn't very hard to navigate even with other hikers and with their dogs on the trail. Everyone was wearing a mask, including us, and the horses were probably more than 6 feet apart. My horses name was Sunset and he was great - cautious going downhill, would realize he was falling behind and start jogging a bit before slowing down again, never tried to eat the plants, and listened very well. We were taken up to inspiration point where we took some pictures overlooking the view of Santa Monica and Pacific Palisades. It was a little overcast which was nice because it wasn't too hot, and there was a steady breeze blowing. Such a nice day for riding! Coming back down was fine, and pretty soon we were off the horse and walking back to the car. This was an excellent experience, and I'm glad we were able to still do this event during these times! Bought a voucher via livingsocial for a 1 hour trail ride for two and cashed in on it for Valentines =) It was the first time I've ever ridden a horse, I'm not sure if it was my bf's. It was also the first time I've even been in Will Rogers, so the whole experience was new to me, and super fun! Our guide was really nice and knowledgeable about the horses and Will Rogers park overall. The horse I rode was called Cherry, gorgeous Cherry brown hair and she used to be a Polo horse. My bf's was Artie, a beautiful black beauty and used to be a racing horse! They are so big and when you get on them it's kinda intimidating at first but so cool at the same time, they're so huge =). It was a total of 6 people per trail tour, 3 couples, and our guide. She took us up to inspiration point and back, all the while telling us all kinds of trivia about the park and our horses. The horses pretty much just followed one another up, they have been doing it awhile so it wasn't difficult to get them going places. These horses are well trained, and know what to do. My horse was a little cranky, but she knew where to go. The view was amazing! You should wait to take pictures until you get to the very top, the Inspiration Point. The guide will take pictures for you. You will see everything from LA downtown to the ocean. I, too, had a Groupon deal for this place...and I've been trying to use them before they expire (that has happened way too many times to me now)... I think they recommend making reservations a week or two in advance. I know I had to email back and forth and finally got a date a couple weeks back. That worked for me... since I wasn't in any sort of rush or needed any specific date. I suppose if you wanted them for a specific date, you should kind of plan that thing out in advance since the dates fill up quickly. Am I babbling? Well, you get my point. As for where this place is located, there aren't any sort of signs once you get into the park. It's all the way at the top of the hill.. which is easy to find if you cut across the grass (which used to be a golf course as we learned on our tour) or by following the white fences all the way to the top. It is quite a walk... so be prepared. The day was lovely. For a summer day in the middle of July, we were super lucky. It was probably in the upper 70s for our ride. The weather was absolutely perfect, breezy and sky was super clear. From Inspiration Point, we were able to see the ocean and all the buildings in every direction. We lucked out by being the only riders... the other couple that was supposed to be in our group didn't show up... so we basically had a private trail ride. That was cool. Our trail guide, Crystal, was very knowledgeable about the park, Will Rogers background, the wildlife of the forest and all the surrounding homes. It made for a very interesting and informative ride. My brown horse was Riley and Pumpkie rode a white and brown paint horse whose name escapes me now. Oops. The horses were very easy to handle. They didn't really get into the bushes to try to eat them or walked near the edge...and they followed direction very well. The trails are shared trails with pedestrians and you can bring your dogs... but the horses don't seem to spook because of them. Spending time riding always makes me want to get back into riding... read more

Just went here today to use my $55 Groupon deal for an hour trail ride for two people. We could not have chosen a better day. Clear blue skies and warm weather (but not too hot). I didn't expect to have such a great tour guide, who pointed out different celebrity homes, talked about the history of Will Rogers and the park, and even took pictures of us on our horses up at Inspiration Point. Highly recommended, especially if you can get a deal. Warning: Give yourself plenty of time to get here.... not just driving, but you have to walk a fair distance, and we were panting up the hill because the email reservation said that there was a charge for late arrivals. I do wish they had some sort of antibacterial spray to spray in the helmets before you use them. They switch them out between the back-to-back hour rides, so on super hot days, it could get ugly. Also, DO bring a bottle of water and do NOT bring a big purse (if you do, they kindly put it in the barn for you though). Have fun! read more

Finally took my Grandaughter on her long promised ride. Im so glad I chose Westside, I did get an awesome deal on Groupon but I would have gone there anyway based on reviews. The grounds are beautiful the trails are beautiful too but most important the horses are very well taken care of and very gentle. I picked up a LivingSocial deal for a ride for two with my husband, and we had a great afternoon ride today. My husband is a novice, and not all that comfortable on horses, having been bitten years ago by one. Crystal was very reassuring, and within minutes he was fine. It's an easy ride, and our guide providing a sightseeing tour along the way, as you'll read in other reviews. Lots of great stories about Will Rogers, the man, good info on flora and fauna, as well as celebrity home sightings. Another tip - pack a picnic in a cooler. The park is a beautiful spot to hang out, whether you hike to a picnic table, watch a polo match, or just relax on the lawn. And for those who complain about the $12 parking, it goes to fund maintenance so that we have our beautiful park system. Enjoy it! read more

Me and my wife went horseback riding here on Thursday and it was really nice. Our trail guide was very nice and she was good with the horses. We got a groupon voucher for a one hour trail ride for the both of us for $75. We ended up spending a little over $100 with the tip and the parking fee. I didn't mind the tip since our guide was very good but the $12 parking fee seemed a little steep. That's my only complaint though. The appointment process was easy. I just emailed back and forth with the rep a few times and they asked what day and time we wanted and made sure someone was available to meet us there. It really felt like they were catering to us and working around our schedule which was nice. We went on a super clear day which made the views really amazing. Great view of Catalina. It was only me and my wife too, which made it more enjoyable not having a group of other people along with us. The horses were calm and easy to ride even for someone like me with no riding experience. Overall, we had a great time. read more

Took my daughter(12), her friend(11) along with my grown son's girlfriend(21) up here for my daughters birthday. None of which have riding experience and they all had an extremely great time. Their wrangler Rob, was very patient with the three of them and calmed their nerves as each was a little apprehensive to ride at first. He was a great guide and they all said they would want him again when we come back. I purchased this experience through Group on which gave me some trouble but with the assistance of Janice (the scheduler at Will Rogers Trail Riding) I was able to get it corrected and from that point had no problem. I don't have a lot of experience with horses other than riding them along the beach in Mexico as a kid so I wasn't sure what to expect but I'm glad I came. Our guide was extremely helpful and welcoming and took us along a gorgeous trail with views of Westwood, the ocean, and the Malibu mountains. My boyfriend and I went horseback riding on 07/16/2017 at 11:00am using a Groupon. We had perfect weather: sunny clear blue skies. I did not want to risk waiting until the last few weeks before it expired so I made our reservation a month in advance with Janice via email. To book a reservation all you need to do is email info@willrogerstrailrides.com and provide number of riders, potential dates you're interested in, and your Groupon number. I received a response with a list of available times, picked one, and she confirmed it all within 24 hours. Great job, Janice!! The confirmation email includes TONS of information like parking, what to wear/bring, cancellation policy, rain, etc. They do advise you plan on being there 40 minutes before your ride time. NAVIGATION SYSTEMS are NOT reliable to this location. Use the address and driving directions found on their website www.willrogerstrailrides.com. You may also print out and complete the release and health forms from the website in advance to save time. Bring enough cash to cover parking and tip, sunscreen, water, and sunglasses. No large purses; try to only bring along items that will fit comfortably in your pocket.There is one section during the drive up Will Rogers State Park Road with a few free parking spots that fill up quickly and require you to walk the rest of the way up the hill. Be mindful of the numerous "No Parking" signs along the street. Once you park you will be able to continue walking and follow the signs up Service Road to where you will find your guide (or at the very least helmets hanging between two trees, a box with clipboards holding forms on top of a picnic table, and saddled-up horses). The only other riders in our group were a mother and daughter duo who said they had been here 4 times before with Groupons. Our guide yesterday was Kate and she was AMAZING! She collected forms, fitted helmets, and ask about riding experience. I was the only first timer so she made sure to give me Miller, the oldest slowest horse :D THANKS KATE! Kate was an awesome leader; she kept us safe and was really knowledgeable about the horses, Will Rogers State Park, and history of Will Rogers. Logan seems to be the naughtiest horse and needed lots of persuading to follow directions. Sunset is a good horse but tends to trail off to the left. And Anza has a fairly lazy walk that will cause you and your saddle to lean left so you will have to adjust yourself accordingly. They are absolutely gorgeous quarter horses. The trails are very well maintained and hikers/dog walkers are courteous. Remember to take a picture from Inspiration Point - the views are breathtaking. Overall, we had a great experience. And you seriously cannot complain after getting such a good deal with Groupon. I highly recommend for anyone looking to try out my new favorite mode of transportation! read more

I really hate to do this, the reviews on here are great and also because a previous experience with this joint was a positive one. I am just so disappointed with the way I was handled the second time around... If it weren't for the last minute, nothing would get done. I called close to voucher expiration, which happened to be around Christmas time. I was told by the flustered sounding woman to call back and leave a message on their machine, and that they would be totally booked until after my requested date anyway. The date she said was the date my voucher expired. I know now I should've taken extra measures but when I asked if allowances would be made considering, I figured we were on the same page. Fast forward to past aforementioned date... I speak to same woman (I have her name in some currently out of reach notes, for Luck's sake!), who is pleasant and asking for the date I would like to schedule my now expired horseback ride. I mention my bf and she scratches the record by saying that since the voucher is expired, it is now only worth face value=what I paid...will only cover a solo ride. I refreshed her memory of the sequence of events, and was dare I say, expecting a little understanding? Unfortunately, this was like playing handball with oatmeal. I got the impression from how she spoke to me now, that they were not hard up for business. We hung up knowing I was disappointed but not able, or in her case, willing, to do anything to remedy this. I drive 2 hours to go horse back riding and they turned me away. They left at 3pm I called at 2:45 asking for them to wait I would be parking and running up the hill. It says online if you are running late there will be a $10 fee and they will wait for you.! Ha! Yea right. The awful lady up on her horse tells me sorry I won't allow you to ride with us today. It was exactly 3:00. What a terrible person she should have had mercy on me. I was stopped by an accident on the hwy putting me back 30 minutes. I won't be recommending this trail ride and I won't ever be back. Very sad experience. Now I have to drive in traffic two more hours. read more

I bought a Groupon for this. Definitely worth it. The trail is nice and relaxing. Only two things annoyed me. First thing was the bikers. They go too fast and don't accommodate horse back riders too well on the trail. But this has nothing to do with the service of this company so I don't hold that against them. Second is the ridiculous $12 parking fee. It's a rip off because it adds up with the cost of horseback riding. It's not cheap! I just find street parking. I know there's a sign that says the $12 goes to the park but I feel as if more people would park there if it was $5. Aside from that, there are amazing views and i saw a bit of wildlife. Horses were as clean as they could be and very sweet. I am doing this again. read more

My daughter and I took my 10 year old grandkids on the 50 minute trail ride. The kids and I had very little riding experience. On the way home, my grandaughter said that she learned so much about riding a horse the proper way from our guide Kyle. Kyle was very safety causious and explained everything to each of us and made sure that we understood. Kyle even told them to take their time saying goodby to their horses when the ride was over. My friend and I did the trail ride a few months ago and...LOVED IT! So we booked another one right away and invited 2 more friends with us to do it. And they loved it!! The guides are very knowledgeable and so friendly. Management is easily available and also so friendly. The views are unbelievably beautiful on the trail. Their horses are sweet and anybody can ride them easily. The place is clean and beautiful. I will be booking more trail rides in the future definitely!! I'm back (: I finally got to take my horse back ride about a week ago.. making the appointment was very easy. Made it over the phone and the lady was very nice and polite. She advised to arrive 30 minutes early as the walk from the parking lot to the horseback riding spot is a bit of a walk. The person guiding us was a guy and was also very nice making the ride very comfortable. The ride itself is about 50 minuteslong, give or take. The horses are so well behaved and not intimidating at all. They have each horse behind the next, following the instructor. Never did I feel worried about falling or the horse getting off course. .. and You get to see very pretty views. Went horseback riding this past Saturday with my husband and had such a wonderful time! We made reservations for 9:30am and although it was a bit overcast at that time, the views were still amazing. It was a total of five of us, including our tour guide, Janice, who was very friendly and informative. She provided us with guidance on riding and was very knowledgeable about the trail area, pointing out local plants and landmarks. The horses were amazing too! They were very sweet and easy to ride. Our guide, Rob, was completely knowledgable, kind, professional and a real leader. I was absolutely terrified of going on this trail ride. I only signed up because my daughter loves horses and has taken natural horse lessons since she was 2 years old. The ranch where she used to take lessons moved 2 hours away and I thought this would be a way for her to continue her horse experience without any necessarily having a future commitment. She loved it. I loved it too. Rob was confident and assured me I would ride the horse and it will be fine. I had begged him to pony me - I am fine on a horse as long as I don't have to guide it in any way. He kindly told me I needed to be a grown up because I am a grown up - especially in front of my daughter, calmed me down, and gave me wonderful pointers. One hour later, we all safely went up and down the trail and it was fun - although there were times I had visions in my head of me falling off the horse. My daughter loved riding Stardust. I had the honor of riding Betty. These horses are incredibly gentle and wise. Thank you Will Rogers Trail Riding and Rob for making the experience so enjoyable. We will be back. Booking was easy - I emailed them a month before our ride. Parking is $12 if you park in the State Park. Support our state parks! You can also park on the street and walk a bit into the park. They suggest you arrive 1/2 hour before your appointment. This way, you can get yourself situated, pick out your helmet - which they provide - and fill out your paperwork/liability forms and then get ready to ride and enjoy the views. read more
