There's nothing I love more then a great bowl of ice cream. So when my friends told me about this old fashion ice cream parlor located in the heart of Denton I had to try it. The smell alone made me change my planed 1 scoop cone into an over the top Sunday covered in chocolate, Carmel, nuts, and hold the cherry!! I ordered exactly what the employee suggested some ice cream concoction she called the bees knees. And I must say it was pretty good!! When you walk in you know you are in heaven. The snell of fresh baked waffle cones surround you. It truly is a great experience even before you order your ice cream. The ice cream is amazing and just improves the experience. The only downside is every time we drive by the kids ask to go and I almost cave to the request. Same good quality Beth Marie's ice cream, new location. I have to be honest though, my entire family was totally turned off by the skimpy portions that were doled out by the servers. Perhaps the high school staff was not properly trained in the difference between a tennis ball and a ping-pong ball. Regardless - two days later we asked the kids if they wanted to go back to Beth Marie's and they all started laughing! Braum's won out...sorry. My high school class posted an article about old ice cream stores so my wife and I headed out this morning in 22 degree temperature to see what we could find. Went o Denton Texas where I had heard about a neat place opposite the court house. Found it---Beth Marie's. Entered the front door and there was a sign , $2.00 lunch specials. We had eaten lunch so we had to pass. Went straight to the ice cream counter and there were more than 30 flavors. Finally decided on the fresh peach and it was delicious. All the ice cream is made on site. The staff is friendly and the management took the time to chat with us. Great day and great ice cream.We will go back for the $2.00 lunch special and some more ice cream. read more

Oh my gosh! I got the Carmel cheesecake, butterfinger, and the Turtle Treasure with a waffle cone- it was amazing!

This review isn't going to be very long because to me its no different than the beth marie's that along the square. If the selection is different I haven't noticed but the atmosphere is the same and the customer service was just as good as I've had it on the square. If you're by the cinemark this is a really nice place to stop and relax and get some good ice cream or some sorbet. read more

Beth Marie's is an ice cream shoppe and soda fountain with an old-timey vibe serving up some good house-made ice cream. As far as the list of in-house frozen dessert options goes, the menu is huge--various media sources number the flavors everywhere from 64 to 100+--and the fount of much ordering indecision. I was tempted to spend the time taste-testing everything in the freezer case, but for my initial visit, I stuck to trying two: Beth Marie's Mudders Milk (?) and the Almond Joy...both of which loaded with sweet treats. I eventually went with my favorite, Almond Joy, a creamy concoction packed full of shredded coconut. I was even thrilled to learn that they offered additional toppings, so a ladle-full of homemade hot fudge sauce went over my choice. If I had a complaint it would be that my ice cream didn't taste as rich as other premium ice creams, perhaps due to a lesser butterfat content? While they didn't offer to weigh my ice cream this time, Beth Marie's serving size illustrations were pretty clear: a 4oz scoop is the size of a tennis ball, while 2oz is a golfball-sized serving...pretty handy reference. Cone or cup, they charge 59 cents per ounce...and you can even get a sampler boat of every flavor you're interested in trying--same price per ounce. The menu isn't just restricted to frozen desserts or variations thereof (floats, milkshakes, etc); they also have a functioning soda fountain and offer sandwiches, cakes and pies. The dining space at this location is certainly big enough to host several large groups, if the intent is to grab a meal with your dessert. Beth Marie's popularity is such that many businesses carry their brand of ice cream. So even if you can't make it to this location or the Denton courthouse location, you can give Beth Marie's a try at a participating Central Market. However, the Unicorn Lake location is certainly worth a visit, given the nice area (including the water fountain) and the nearby Cinemark theater. read more

Great ice cream that they make themselves. Tons of flavors to choose from and most are really good. The store is really fun, like an old time ice cream shop. The staff is really friendly and let you try any flavors before you commit to one. Can be really busy during peak times. The kids love going here and ask to go every time we go near. My husband and I agree with a previous reviewer who said "Beth Marie's is a time capsule". It is an old-fashioned ice cream parlor. My husband was thrilled that they had phosphates in different flavors. He had Cherry. I had a scoop of cinnamon ice cream on a slice of apple cobbler. Yum! I really, really love Beth Marie's. I have been going to the location on the square for years, but this location is so much better. This location is much cleaner than the one on the square and the employees are nicer. There is plenty of parking and outdoor seating. The After Dinner Mint is my new favorite flavor. Showed up to this Beth Marie's about 10 minutes before they closed to get a couple cones to go, when I got up to the register to pay there was a problem with my card declining , and there ended up not being enough money in my bank account, thankfully the manager was up front and gave me and my boyfriend our cones for free! Service was adequate and the place was clean. My experience wasn't entirely negative but I was bothered by the fact the gild behind the register didn't give me back my change or offer me a receipt. Granted it was only 27 cents. But still I felt slighted. The few customers that came in after received a receipt or the option for one. There was an overall sence of discomfort when in the shop stemming for the staff. (Might have something to do with the fact I'm a minority?) the man with the wind blower outside the store was friendlier than the staff. Never the less, I will not be returning to the unicorn lake location. We have gone to Beth Maries for 20 + years and have always enjoyed the one downtown. We dropped by the unicorn location and the service was pathetic. I ordered a sundae, it came with two egg sized scopes of ice cream and a thin stream of whipped cream(the end of the can), a tablespoon of fudge. Tons of flavors, homemade (even the cones). If you're not happy with your serving, ask for a little more, they won't say no! A little on the pricey side (they charge by the ounce, which, for those who have been complaining, is why they don't serve heaping scoops unless you request it) but so totally worth it, as most great ice cream is ;) Plenty of places to sit inside (it's cute). it's not sickly sweet or too rich - it's practically perfect.
