I'd like to preface this review by saying I really like this place. The food, the drinks, and the art- are perennially really nice and quaint but not cutesy. The staff is so friendly and kind. I'll continue to support this place of business without question. So, on my recent visit, I ordered the Cubano sandwich and the Pastrami sandwich-both were terrific. My only request was to "please put the Pastrami on Marble Rye and add a side of Thousand Island". We took our lunch to the beach and it was delicious. My sandwich, however, did not come on Marble Rye and there was no extra dressing. Oh well- no biggie- it was really tasty- I just don't like Sour Dough or Ciabatta. Whatever. The next day we were in town again and we both wanted to go to Beth's again. I ordered The Pastrami again and mentioned, "Hey could you please put this on Marble Rye? I asked for that yesterday and y'all forgot." The sweet gal behind the counter could NOT have been nicer or accommodating. "I'm sorry about that" and "You can absolutely have it on Rye." I paid and waited. The gent behind me stepped up to the counter and began: "Hi. I ordered a little while ago for my friends for a bike trip stop- the order was missing" etc.. I didn't hear the rest. Next a girl came in and stepped up to the counter, "Hi. We ordered lunch from here- we are at the beach- and you forgot to put in the drink that I paid for." Finally, my order came up and I went to check my sandwich but I felt like a jerk- it was all wrapped up beautifully, and pickled etc- so I just said thanks. I didn't want to insult anyone's smarts or the like. We got to the beach and opened up our lunch- my sandwich, again, was on some big bulky like roll and not Marble Rye. It's not that I won't go back and I know these are tough times, but...We are trying to support as many restaurants as we can to keep them from staying empty etc. "The devil is in the details." read more

I am astounded at the number of 5 star reviews given to this place. I can only imagine that they must get a great many Millennials or aging Yuppies from NYC who think it's cool to stand on a line for over a half hour just to have their order taken and then wait more than an hour to actually get any food! Naturally the food arrives cold and at least part of the order incorrect. In addition, seating is complete chaos, apparently leaving it to the customers to sort out who actually gets to sit and who doesn't. Large groups, preferably with several small children, can take possession of as many tables and chairs as they wish, leaving the rest of the customers with no place to eat. But the owner is smart, makes you pay for your order IN ADVANCE, so you're not going to leave, are you Cupcake? But that's ok because the place is sooo "cute". Final rating: 0 stars read more

I have been to this restaurant many times and have enjoyed my time here in the past, but at this point I no longer have any compliments I could possibly give after my recent experience. When ordering food, my friend ordered a gluten free bagel, and after sitting down for a bit the bagel arrived. However, a muffin that had gluten was on the bagel. When my friend sent the bagel back for a new one, an older waitress stormed out from behind the counter and began to scold our friend for not telling them they were celiac, even though the muffin was not advertised or talked about until the food was given. When pointed out, we were told that they weren't doctors and it was a complimentary garnish. Anyways, the french toast I ordered was stretchy and the syrup was awful. Beth's is walking distance from my home in Maine, and I really love the food and coffee. High quality ingredients, good atmosphere, and lots of menu / configuration options (Too many?). Beth is also the sweetest person you'll ever meet. Unfortunately I've had many orders messed up (omelettes / wraps without key ingredients), the price for the same food seems to be different every time I come here (as if the employees arbitrarily charge you), and the line (and wait) can be very long. A good POS system would change the game for Beth's (and most likely solve any problems I've personally experienced), and updating the floor plan to open more seating would also be of great benefit to the customer and business. Simplifying the menu would also help everyone. Also: Their staff uses a VERY aromatic (vinegar?) cleaner on the tables that really has no place near people who are eating. read more

So many amazing things about Beth's. Quality of food, atmosphere, and price -- for starters. My group ordered two cinnamon rolls, one latte, one side sunny side up egg, one bagel with salmon (Asiago bagel, good helping of smoked salmon, herb cream cheese, lettuce, tomato, carrots, onion, sprouts) and one bowl of oatmeal (which, honestly, might have been one of the prettiest oatmeal's I've seen -- a bunch of different colors, nuts, seeds, coconut. Really pretty). All of the food and drinks was $20! The classiness of the sprouts seems silly to focus on, but it's those kinds of ingredients that help make Beth's a step above another diners and cafes. Also, the bakery section is amazing and makes the entire cafe smell like fresh baked goods. Bridgton is a small town but probably within 25 minutes drive of 3-4 ski mountains. Wicked good breakfast and hot chocolate for Mainers and tourists alike! I've been enjoying their amazing hot chocolate for the past year after being given some for Christmas, and this past weekend I finally got a chance to come eat here while I was home! Five of us came for a late-morning brunch on Sunday. It was too cold to sit outside, and space was tight inside, but a large enough table opened up fairly quickly, and staff were super helpful getting enough chairs around it and making sure we had enough space. They were helpful and understanding about my dairy allergy, although it meant I couldn't have any of their homemade bread or baked goods. What I did have was a very good homemade corned beef and hash with fries eggs! One of my breakfast companions got a nice looking bowl of oatmeal that may inspire her to jazz up her own breakfasts at home, and everyone but me gobbled up a shared plate of scrumptious looking coconut french toast! They serve very good local coffee, which is the same kind my Mom keeps at home, but my green tea latte wasn't mixed properly and was like drinking bitter green chalk. This place was a delight, and if we come back through the area we will be sure to go again. The young man at the counter was very helpful and enthusiastic about all of the foods displayed and was happy to explain each of them, he really knew what he was talking about. It looked like nearly everything was made from scratch. The food was delicious and the coffee was strong. I have a breakfast stromboli, and my husband had a corned beef hash plate. I stood in line and ordered 2 eggs and toast. 50 minutes later everyone around me had eaten and left and I was still waiting. Stay away. My wife and I were visiting from out of town and tried this place on a recommendation. After placing our order and paying, we sat for 45 minutes while 6 parties (who came in after us) were served they're food. When we inquired we were told several times that our "food was coming right out." We finally gave up and I asked for our money back. A small guy, with a large chip on his shoulder asked what my "issue" was. I told him what had happened and he said that our order (fried eggs and an omelette) required more to make than the other orders. He then told me that our order was slow because they were "busy." He then told me I was rude for asking for my money back, but ultimately refunded it (after deducting the cost of the ice tea my wife nursed for 45 minutes). Bad business; bad service; bad attitude. Came here on our recent trip to lovely Bridgton, ME. We waited 15 minutes to order, then another 20 minutes for food. 3 stars all for the quality of my breakfast. I had the most amazing coconut french toast here. This came with 1 sausage patty and i had to order eggs separately. Again, quality of food is amazing but they are extreme penny pinchers. They made a mistake on my fiances order and then instead of just fixing it , they changed it and made him pay the difference(a little less than $2) mid meal. Everything here is an up charge, $1 for extra syrup? Very strange, but customer service does not seem to be their thing by reading the other reviews. However, I would highly suggest coming here for breakfast if you're in the area, food is too good! read more

We visit this spot frequently on our annual vacations and always love it. The food is always great and the cafe itself is so cute. This year has been a disaster. I will get into the COVID safety issues below but my first issue is how they dealt with a food allergy. My son has an egg allergy and I called prior to our visit to ensure there were egg free items. I ordered an English muffin with butter and told the staff member that the item was for a child with an egg allergy. She made note and said no problem- she was nice about it. 15 minutes later the English muffin came out with a mini muffin on the side. I said that he could not eat anything on the plate because the mini muffin had egg. The staff member gave me such a big attitude about having it sent back. It took another 10 minutes to receive another plain English muffin and the same staff member rudely said when bringing it "it has butter already on it...." and there was an obscene amount of butter on it that seemed almost retaliatory for having it sent back since my son would've had a severe allergic reaction had he eaten the previous one. Had to use 3 napkins to take off all the excess butter so he could eat it. The next major issue: With COVID- places have had to make lots of changes. Beth's has a sign posted that their staff will be wearing masks, among other additional safety measures. I visited both Saturday the 25th and Sunday the 26th and on both occasions the staff that were taking orders and preparing food were NOT wearing masks. A few had masks pulled down under their mouths and only put up when going to serve food- not good enough. On my Sunday visit I had ordered pickup and while waiting in line I saw a staff member at the espresso machine touching her nose and then touching a mug. She of course was not wearing a mask. At this point I walked out without my order and let the people behind me (who were older and in the more vulnerable age groups) know that staff were not wearing masks in accordance with their own policies and a staff member touched her nose and face and then touched dish-ware. If you cannot care enough about the safety of your customers and follow your own policies then you will not be getting my business. This was truly appalling. read more

Anytime I visit Bridgton I've wanted to check this place out but never got to! Well we finally stopped in and was so glad! The food and drinks were amazing! I got a cranberry mimosa, my boyfriend got a latte, and friend got some kind of coffee! All 3 of us loved our drinks. We also loved our food too! I got a ham & cheese omelette with potatoes and white bread. It was delicious! The homemade bread was amazing! My bf got some breakfast BLT sandwich and he thought it was really good. I can't recall what my friend ordered but she too thought the food was great! All the pastries and desserts looked amazing but we were so full we never got to try anything else. They also sell various types of photos, paintings and wall decor from what I'm guessing are local artists. They also make their own hot chocolate which I bet is super good! It was a cute little place. The upstairs was very plain but they said it was fairly new. We will definitely be going back before we head home! On Sunday, November 19, 2017, my husband and I brought friends from Wilton to have lunch at Beth's Restaurant in BRIDGTON. My friend had a favorite tea with her and requested a cup of hot water. According to the blonde haired woman with glasses, that was not possible. My friend asked if you had the same tea that she had with her. The answer was "No". " It was around 2 pm. We all found this quite insulting for customer service. Water??? I can't think of any restaurant that would no provide hot water. I keep giving beth's a chance because the coffee is decent and I always want to support local businesses. First, walking in, I find myself completely overwhelmed with all the chalkboards. They all seem to have information on them, I'm not entirely sure because I struggle to read (and find) all of them. The coffee is decent, they use speckled axe. I have tried their baked goods on a few different occasions. I've tried the cinnamon roll and have found it to get doughier and doughier as you approach the center. I have found the same to be true with the muffins, both small and large to be wet and undercooked in the middle. I have yet to try their actual breakfast and lunch menu. I find the excessive diversity to be off putting. What are they trying to be? Coffee, muffins, pad thai and cocktails? Stick to what you do well. Having had undercooked baked goods I'm not super keen on trying anything more "exotic". Now the staff are hit or miss. I find many of the staff tend to be pleasant but often seem stressed and all over the place. There is one older woman who I usually see at the front counter who is incredibly rude and unpleasant, no smiles, thank yous, or have a nice days. All in all, most of the staff there are sweet in my experience and I will continue to get coffee there when my caffination levels are low whilst in town. read more
