I am in the store multiple times a week. It is always clean, well stocked with organized shelves. I love the smell of the spices and meander through the store just smiling. The staff is extremely polite and helpful to me and I only speak English. The produce is always fresh and the meat selections in wonderful. read more

Well organized, easy parking, huge selection, and decently priced, we noticed there's plenty here to make rather authentic ramen. Orange chicken, tea eggs, some slightly Americanized with fake flavors and other the real stuff. Great location near campus too and competing well with the other similar markets in the area. read more

I love the section of ramen and various bao. Nicely surprised they had Filipino tocino.

So many cool items. I was pumped to find three different flavors of tapioca pearls for when I make bubble tea at home and am excited to try some new tea flavors that I picked up in store. I'll definitely be back after some more research. read more

So I have been to several in the Chicago area and I feel this one in Lafayette is one clean, well stocked and fun to view and buy. The workers are nice, friendly and courteous. I love visiting my daughter at Purdue and coming here. I bring a cooler so I can bring some stuff to our home in Chicago. Horrible smelling place, with the largest selection of Asian food & groceries in the county. Admittedly, such a distinction has a low bar for achievement, but I digress. Fantastic selection of meat and fish, and it's really clean, in spite of the horrifyingly bad odor thay about knocks you out as soon you enter. I am so glad this market exists. It's not huge but is full of the good stuff. I am able to buy some Asian staples for cooking Asian/Filipino food that I cannot find elsewhere. And there's also enough variety that I find there's always something new I want to buy too. Yes, I do find it is a little pricey sometimes but I think that's just how it is with smaller specialty grocers. And, honestly, to me it's worth it. I grew up in an area with lots of Asian bakeries so I often find that I crave stuff from Asian bakeries. I am very grateful that they bring in pastries from Chicago. They're not exactly my favorite and the bread can be a little stale but...when there aren't a lot of options, you get what you get! I'm only giving four stars because sometimes there is produce in the bins that quite simply should be thrown out. Also there is a distinct smell by the meat counter/produce area that is...not good. I'm not talking like "oh this food stinks" but like a cleanliness problem. read more

So, this is a little different than the other reviews.. see, there's a great Asian grocery store, and you can read all about that in the other reviews. But if you walk all the way to the back there's a little walled off space with a few tables, and a white board with nothing but Chinese written on it... That's straight out of a Beijing Street market. The waitresses speak a tiny bit of English, and there *are* English menus. The food is great and moderately priced, with standard (genuine) Chinese offerings like beef fried rice noodles, Singapore fried rice noodles, soup noodles, duck, lots of chicken dishes... The soup served before the meal tastes like it's benefited from simmering a pot full of bones all day. Lots to like here. If you're Chinese food literate, you'll feel right at home. read more

Love that there's an Asian market in West Lafayette! Great variety of snacks, spices, etc. and not too expensive. They even offer live fish and some "delicacy" meats. Would definitely recommend going here for authentic Asian groceries. I noticed they opened up a restaurant recently. Definitely intrigued but everything is in Chinese and it's a little intimidating. Maybe I'll check it out next time and see if they have an English menu. Seemed like it was popular though! read more

Close to Purdue, and this place offers a better selection of Asian groceries (mostly Chinese) than other nearby Asian grocery stores. Great place to shop for hot pot ingredients. The reason why I only gave three stars is: 1. Poor way of handling the situation when their credit card reader stopped working. They had us waited for 30 minutes without offering a solution, and had a line of more than 10 customers backed up. They held my credit card and passed it around between other employees to test if the readers are working. I didn't get any fraudulent charges on my statement, but still I felt uncomfortable how they tossed around my credit card. 2. I've been to this place multiple times, but recently I smelled a strong sewage odor throughout the entire store. The odor was too strong I had to cover my nose and my friend left the place immediately. 3. The foods on the top in the open freezer, are not sometimes fully frozen. This is the best Asian grocery in town (in terms of the range of food selection and price). I've recently seen a significant increase in number of customers in this place. I think the word is out and customers have figured out most of other Asian grocery stores are inferior to Better World Market (mostly due to the over-price issue). Only complain I would give is that the staff don't speak any other language aside from Chinese (no English). This is usually not a big deal, but when you are picking up a seafood or wanting to have some request (for instance, removing organs from live fish, etc) it's impossible to communicate through. But I will not complain too much on this point since staff are still very nice and helpful as long as my body language cuts through. read more

In my opinion, the best Asian market in the area. If you can't find it here, it might just not exist. I'm glad they listened to customer demand and are now stocking several more flavors of Japanese Kit Kat bars. I wanted to make some Jjapaguri, but they were out of Chapagetti! But then again so was everyone. I had to order it online. I like their cool selection of porcelain chopstick holders- I have bought several. There are really two sections to this review: one is for the market and the other is for the restaurant. The market has a pretty good selection: way better than what I was expecting when I started at Purdue! Although the prices were a bit higher than what I wished they could be,( $12 for 3 instant laksa!!!) the pure range of the supermarket makes up for that fact. The restaurant, on the other hand, is probably one of the better deals for noodles in the city. I ordered a bowl of dandanmian, and I was pretty impressed! It was spicy enough, but as always it could've been a little more spicy. My favorite part was how they served a giant bowl for $10, making it a better deal than Noodles & I imo. Definitely check the restaurant out, and don't be deterred by it being in the back of the store! read more
