This Mexican bakery is impressive! There were so many different deserts to choose from. I went with the Chocoflan. It was good but I think there are better desserts to try. I also had a Horchata and it was easily the best Horchata I ever had! The other item I tried was a tamale with pork and green salsa. It was very good but there was barely any salsa inside. Mama Ines is such a gift to the community! Not only is it a bakery, but they also host events and give back to the community! Whenever I go it's clean, well stocked and everyone is so friendly! Such a wonderful place for a treat. Mexican Bakery's don't use sugar like we do in the US. Don't expect things to be sugar bombs but they are still wonderful. This location is the place where they bake the items so they are super fresh. Prices have gone up in the last few years but still a bargain. We got a mix of treats and a couple Agua De Jamaica, one of my favorite drinks on the planet. We had wonderful friendly checkout and they were super busy. Doing a slight up charge is totally legal on credit cards since 2013 thank your legislators for changing that law. Up till 2013 it wasn't legal to charge a person a credit card fee. Love this place. This bakery is a must try! Worth the drive if you aren't from the area. As soon as you walk thru the doors you instantly know that you are in for authentic treat. I have to limit my visits because I want to buy every other pastry I see. They are always fresh and everything I have tried i have loved. I'm not sure of the proper names but the guava and cheese pastry is delightful, full of flavor and not too sweet. The coconut cake is packed with coconut so you can't go wrong with that. If you do want something sweeter try the cinnamon swirl pastry. I like to get the darkest one because the sugar is more caramelized. I absolutely love Mana Ines and can't recommend this wonderful bakery highly enough. By far, the largest and most delicious variety of baked goods I have ever experienced. It is nearly impossible to walk through without taking photos of the amazing baked goods. Dozens of varieties of cookies, pastries, cakes, bread, and more. Each is truly Instagram- worthy. The tres leche is wonderful, as is the choco flan. Actually, I have loved every single bakery item I have ever picked up here. Besides the baked goods, they also offer hot, fresh burritos and tamales. I love the bean and cheese burritos, simple but so good! I always pick up a few to take to work with me when I am in the area. They are great for breakfast or lunch. Mama Ines opens at 5:00 am, which is perfect when I have to be in early at work. While at the University for a week I searched for tamales and Mama Ines showed up. Their selection of treats is wonderful and the staff is very friendly and helpful. I got 1 spicy pork and 2 jalapeno and queso tamales and they were phenomenal. At the check out I asked one of the ladies what dessert I should get to go with the food and she didn't hesitate to go grab me something and say I would enjoy it... She was absolutely correct, I don't know what it is called but it was delicious. They now have savory burritos, breads and meat pies. Pork burrito and bean ones are really great. Have not tried the chorizo potatoes. They have some new desserts including a tres leches cup. I've lived in Mexico and one thing I dearly miss is the panaderías. Upon entering this establishment, it was extremely traditional. Looking around, I saw tortas, conchas and tres leches among a bounty of other baked goods. This place is the real deal. I had to try their renown chocoflan. Went by on a Saturday evening and the place was packed! Lots of people inside. However, they are doing a great job with COVID precautions (hand sanitizer/masks etc). I think limiting the number of people in one space would be helpful too. We got their chocolate tres leches which was so good. I devoured it. Highly recommend! There is a reason this place has solid 5-star reviews. It's magical. If you want authentic Me I can baked goods, this is the place. Mounds of fresh baked bolillo bread, every dessert you can even imagine, and sweet empanadas flavored with guava, strawberry, pineapple, and more. I've been to a few all inclusive resorts in Mexico and the breakfast sweets always brought me joy. Visiting this bakery took me back to Mexico. The only thing missing was the gorgeous Gulf waters and white sand beaches. To discover a place like this in a small town like Lafayette is absolute witchcraft. You can only find bakeries like this typically in very large cities like Chicago or New York or even Miami. So this was an absolute treat and I cannot wait to go back. Literally the best Mexican bakery I've every been to!! I stumbled upon this location at the suggestion of a friend and it is a must-visit for sure. They follow the usual process of grabbing a tray and tongs as you pull what you like from the cases. Holy cow--everything I got was incredible. I really like the conchas and cheese- or custard-filled pastries but there are A TON of options available! Definitely something for everyone here. They also have a juice bar as well as tamales. We have noticed some hits and misses depending more on the freshness of various goods not so much ingredients or type. We haven't tried the big cakes or large flans but the cookies, baked rolls, donuts, and tres leches cake easy eating. Maybe something to inquire about is when the items were baked if top quality is necessary for your takeout. A pity there's little for any nutrition goals, gluten or dairy free, or vegan options. We can only make it here once a year at most since our family sticks to dietary needs which thankfully Lafayette has excellent options to treat our treat targets, like Sweet Revolution, we highly recommend their gluten free cheesecake! I started out with the tamales. I tried every kind they make. My personal preference is the spicy pork, with jalapeño and cheese coming in a close second. I was so full of tamale goodness after that, but I had to forge on to a dessert. I went with a concha. It was very fresh...it seemed like it had just been made. A great way to finish off a wonderful meal. I just wish they had small bottles of milk to drink with the desserts, but there is a McDonald's next door for that, I suppose. Disappointed in lack of transparency and consistency in pricing practices. Went to the one in Indianapolis to get some Mexican wedding cake cookies. They charged me $2.99 then $3.99 on two different occasions two days apart. I could understand if the Indianapolis location cookies were higher since they were having to have them shipped from Lafayette. I saw that the cookies were made in Lafayette so when I was up there next, I stopped in and bought some in Lafayette and they charged me $3.99. I go back three days later to Lafayette to get multiple boxes for my friend and I who loves mexican wedding cake cookies and those cookies are now $6.99. I told the lady what they charged me before during my 3 previous visits, both locations. She said they charged you wrong. Both locations for this bakery in Lafayette and Indianapolis do not have pricing listed for the majority of the items and they don't have the descriptions either. It feels like they charge whoever they want whatever they want since you don't have anything posted and since I got the runaround, I did with all these different pricing issues within less than a week. I will not be patronizing this business at all. The Mexican wedding cake cookies tasted good not great but I'll get the recipe out from my childhood, and cook them myself. The Oreo tres leche cake had the consistency of cornbread and not sponge cake like they said. Also this is the type of place you come to when you 'want sweets' but you are the person that doesn't really like any rich sweets. If you like rich sweets this isn't the place. read more
