Being owned by Watches of Switzerland; made me worried at first because I was always a betteridge customer as their stand alone business. Recently I found out Torneau / Bucherer sold me a stolen certified pre owned - and never made me whole with a choice of a watch way below my market value. It had me thinking about my jewelry watch experience over the years - and one the places I always feel happy about servicing my Rolexes is betteridge. They communicate; even if I am being emotional. Keep my pieces safe and handle each watch of mine or jewelry repair with integrity. Thats the one thing that really made me realize how great this store is. This used to be one of the most marvelous stores in the country. The service was excellent, the inventory was unique and lovely, and one could always find a gift there for any occasion. Since the store has been sold, however, everything has gone quickly downhill. I would never attempt to purchase anything From Betteridge again though my family have been lifelong clients dating back many years. I recently attempted to purchase a gift for a family members important birthday. The treatment I received was absurd. They refused to mail the gift to my sister, and though I live 100 miles away, i was told that I had to come into the store in order for them to mail it to her. I wasn't told this until after I had made the purchase, given her address as well as my credit card. Later that afternoon I received an email from an employee stating this as if it was no trouble at all for me. I wonder how people will purchase gifts and have them sent in the future? Growing up in Greenwich everyone knew Betteridge to be the ultimate in first class customer experience. This WAS the place you went when you wanted your engagement ring. This WAS the place you went when you wanted your first Rolex, fourth Rolex or your first Patek. A little back ground I have been a client of this fine establishment for more than 30 years, my parents before me for 60 years. I have personally spent over a million dollars over the years from everything from watches (15-20) tennis bracelets, custom necklaces, rings, earrings you name it I bought it. The OLD sales team made my wife and I love coming back. The sale and service were exceptional, today it is terrible. Watches of Switzerland (WOS) acquired this establishment and when doing so they never brought over purchase history. Like the gentleman before wrote I was treated like a first time buyer. They where rude, they where classless and frankly it's appalling that when I asked to buy a 65,000 watch from them they asked for my financial background. Are you f-ing serious. I got up and walked out. Never will I return. I was told in order to buy any watch from them I would have to first buy two of three less desirable watches first. Like WTF. There are many options for people, especially in Greenwich, I would go elsewhere to spend your money. The reality is I don't need to buy a watch as I can't see the dam numbers anyways, I have enough for a life time. I will buy the watch I want it just won't be from here. It's is with sadness that I tell you NEVER EVER GO TO THIS STORE. WOS will destroy this establishment. It may not be this year or next but the truth of the matter is in retail, high end retail, the client experience is the highest priority. They DON'T understand this nor do they care. My Terrible Betteridge Experience I have been a client for 5+ years and have spent $250k+ on watches/jewelry in the past 2 years. Additionally, I have referred 5+ clients who have also spent considerable. I was even featured in their Christmas 2022 Instagram post last year which is hilarious at this point since I am treated like a stranger. Unfortunately, this chaotic behavior happened immediately after the sale to Watches of Switzerland. Since the sale to WOS went through and literally majority of the original staff quit, including my rep Erik, my experience has been utterly disappointing. A few examples of how bad things are: 1. Zero Client Retention: Since my rep left, nobody even bothered reaching out to me. I had to call the managers 4-5 times to ask them for help without any luck. One manager completely disregarded my text messages to his personal phone that he had earlier provided. Eventually I reached out back to Erik and asked if there was anyone still working who can help me and was paired with a new rep who seemed partly uninterested or even annoyed she had to deal with me. 2. Non-Existent Systems: for a good 2-3 months I was tossed around since according to my new rep I am a new client. When she pulled up my purchase history she could only find a Rolex Starbucks Submariner (purchased Mar-23). My question to her was if it made sense to her than my "first" watch would be one of the most sought after steel Rolex pieces. Eventually I had to provide her my purchase history for them to update the systems and mark me as a repeat client. 3. Lack of Integrity: I was sold a used Panerai (from Betteridge's pre-owned) that was apparently offered with box and papers. They were not able to locate the box and papers that day at the store so I was told they would ship it. Eventually they never found the box and papers and when I kindly asked them to buy back the watch, their answer was that Analog Shift doesn't buy Panerai so that's that. 4. Complete Mess Regarding New Orders: Early in 2023 I was asked to put a 1/3 deposit for a special Cartier. I was told the watch would come by July/August. Since my rep Erik left nobody ever followed up. After I followed up multiple times I was told they couldn't locate the deposit. A month later (Dec 23 at this point) they told me that they had found the deposit. At this point I was informed that the watch would come at some point in 2024. 5. Zero Guidance on Wishlist: I am used to adding 4-5 watches annually to my collection. This year I have only been able to get my Rolex Starbucks. Whenever I talk to them the overarching sentiment is that managers/salespeople rotate constantly nobody knows if they will work here tomorrow and that nobody really cares about really working with their clients, it's a 9-5 job. Staff keeps complaining about the politics and unfortunately this is truly starting to trickle down to us clients as everyone is fighting over allocations. It genuinely feels like if you're a client, at this point you're not a priority. It seems like old salespeople are quitting right and left due to a demoralizing lack of leadership and new managers are just staying impartial while the brand value is being tarnished. To me personally, when you run a client facing business, your clients are your lifeline. If 90% of your clients follow 80% of your staff who quit and joined new stores, who will is left to spend money at Betteridge? Better yet, what did Watches of Switzerland pay a premium for? This is such a shame because old Betteridge used to be such a classy and aristocratic place. People treated you with integrity, were genuine and truly made you want to keep coming back and experience the store's aura and history. Will be interesting to see what happens, maybe there is hope the new management will turn things around and maintain the history of the place. read more

My wife and I started visiting Betteridge about 7 years ago when we lived in town and were starting to shop for engagement rings. While the relationship may have started out of convenience and proximity, it is really the people that have kept us as clients throughout the years. Our saleswoman, Donna, has become a part of our family. So much so, we now look for excuses to make the trip to Greenwich, as we no longer live in town. However, it wasn't just Donna that made us feel welcome. Other current and former employees such as Lauren, Joel, Jess, Jose, and even Terry himself went out of their way to be welcoming and hospitable whether it was a random visit or an event we were invited to. Now, obviously things were going to change when Watches of Switzerland purchased Betteridge. The transition of ownership from a single family to a publicly traded corporation necessitates different structure and procedure. As someone who has worked at both small, intimate companies and larger, publicly listed entities, I understand that change is simply unavoidable. What we weren't anticipating is how welcoming the Watches of Switzerland family would be and how rewarding it would be as recurring clients. Lorcan, Helena, and Ben all stepped in without missing a beat. I'm some ways, it feels like they have been there all along. I have now visited Watches of Switzerland locations in different countries, been introduced to Watches of Switzerland CEO, Brian Duffy, and Deputy CEO, David Hurley, and have developed friendships with salespeople at different stores.. if you're in soho, ask for Rashawn! I've had 3 experiences spreading over 30 years with Betteridge Jewelers, and here they are. First, the sapphire from my engagement ring Terry personally made shot out of the hand-crafted setting and was lost. It lasted 7 years. Then, when they restrung a Mikimoto pearl necklace purchased by my then-newlywed father for my mother while stationed in Kyoto, the original heavy gold clasp was replaced with a cheap loop. It took me a few years, but I was finally able to replace it with one found on eBay. read more

I have been coming here for almost 10 years and I am a big fan. The service is exceptional, the selection is extensive and the new location in Greenwich is gorgeous. In my most recent visit, we were assisted by David Glucksman. I was buying a watch and my wife wanted to pick up some jewelry. Between the both of us, he must have spent almost 2 hours assisting us, despite constant interruptions from our restless 3 year old, what a saint! My wife was particularly impressed by his ability to pick out earrings based on how it compliments her existing pieces. I was very happy with the trade-in process for my watch. It quick and fair. I had forgotten to mention that I left a brand new steel strap in the watch box. I emailed him that same evening and by the next morning the watch was re-appraised and I received a credit for the omission! That's integrity. We will be coming back for years to come. read more

Betteridge did an outstanding job. Naturally, when the time came for me to propose to my then-girlfriend (now fiancée), I went back to have her ring made, and Betteridge didn't disappoint. Warren shepherded me through the entire process down to the tiniest details and helped me maintain discretion so I could surprise her on the big day. Despite the challenges of making the ring on a short timetable, everything came out perfectly - The ring is tasteful and timeless (and she said yes). I first went to Betteridge to have my grandmother's ring reset for my engagement ring. That was over 25 years ago. My experience was so positive that in early 2018, I suggested my son (living in Boston) use them to make an engagement ring for his girlfriend from another of my grandmother's rings. He drove down from Boston and he and I and his twin brother met with Donna Varbaro to design a ring. The initial design plans were changed once the stones were removed from the original ring due to size and shape of the stones, so I met with Donna (my son being back in Boston and it was late March and the proposal was to be in Greece mid-May!) and chose a new design. She sent photos to my son and we moved ahead with the creating the ring. Donna then shipped the ring FedEx to my son's office in Boston on May 2 and he took it to Greece May 9. The ring was perfect and Donna moved mountains to get it made in time! (As an aside, during this time, I brought some of my mother's jewelry to Donna to be appraised. Betteridge is the only jeweler I trust to handle valuable estate jewelry!!) And now to the wedding rings for my son, who was married 6/2019. He and his fiancee drove down from Boston one weekend to meet with Donna. He wanted to make a wedding band to match the engagement ring from the remaining stones from the original ring; however, waited a bit too long to have the ring made in time. Donna came to the rescue! She showed my future daughter-in-law some setting options that would match her engagement ring. They went back to Boston to thing about it and were in constant contact with Donna via text, phone and email! They decided to opt for the "ready-made" option, and Donna once again FedEx'd the rings to Boston in time for the wedding. I imagine that we will return to see Donna again to make an anniversary ring from those remaining stones! Donna Varbaro is not just a salesperson. She genuinely cares about her customers. She understood exactly what my son wanted for a ring and also considered his budget without compromising elegance or quality. She went the extra mile for him to make sure everything was perfect! I went to this store on two separate occasions to look at engagement rings and wasn't even acknowledged when I walked in. I asked a man for help and he reluctantly showed me 2 rings, as if I was wasting his time, and walked away even though I still wanted to look at more. My boyfriend also had a similar experience with the exact same man when he went to look at watches. The guy actually went and got the policeman to tell him to not stand so close to the display case instead of actually helping him. They might as well put up a sign that says "customers not welcome". I will never purchase anything from them ever. Nicest person in the whole store was the policeman who actually said hello when I came in. read more

On a Saturday afternoon I brought in a vintage bracelet I had found at an antique store - it needed a new clasp. I gave my cell phone and email address. I was told I'd receive an estimate for the work on Tuesday. By Friday, having heard nothing all week, I called to inquire. Two hours after my initial call they phoned me back to tell me the bracelet is not a precious metal and therefore they would not touch it. i ordered two small things online. When the package arrived there was only one item but the receipt listed both items. I thoroughly checked box including under flaps before I called them. Person I spoke to told me I must just be not seeing it. Eventually they apologized and agreed to send it to me. Once I receive it I will be happy to improve the rating. Accidents do happen. But how hard is it to put two things in a box? The receipt even had initials on it as if someone had checked it. But until I have the item I paid for in hand a 2-star rating is the best I can do. read more

Betteridge Jewlers must be doing excellent business in this questionable economic environment - especially since I can not get a reply (from anyone) regarding my Rolex inquiry. I originaly spoke with saleswoman Donna who promised a return call or text to provide a quote on a Rolex I wanted to purchase When I did not receive the quote after a few days I left a few messages for Donna and a voicemail for the store manager Mike. Neither had the professionalism to return my calls - in spite of the fact that I was referred to them by a friend AND the fact that advised Donna that I WAS going to PURCHASE the specific Rolex. I am an attorney and if any of my associates failed to return a call (especially if the client called a few tiimes - which that alone is unacceptable) they would be terminated - no questions asked! If the owner of Betteridge condones this manner and level of customer service, I know for certain I will never make a purchase there and certainly will NEVER refer any friend or colleaque. read more

I cannot tell you what happened to the "customer service" that Betteridge was so lauded for. I interned there as a jeweler years ago and knew that the hand engraver they use does beautiful work, but was in a bit of a time crunch so was open to the possibility of having it machine engraved (which they also do), so I went in to have a ring for my grandmother engraved. Much to my surprise, I was treated like a leper and an absolute chore. The man helping me was beyond rude, literally bickering with me and being combative, and seemed uneducated about common jewelry practices, which I was so surprised about.. how many other customers have you misled by misinforming them? It is not "absolutely impossible to machine engrave the inside of a band". My feelings were so hurt, I had worked for them when they were in their original location on the avenue and had become friends with a lot of the employees, my mother's engagement ring and much of her jewelry has been purchased there, and I was so surprised by how far they had fallen. So disappointed and hurt, will take my business elsewhere from now on, it's a shame because they have beautiful estate pieces and diamonds, I guess I didn't fit their cheesy bottle blonde pretentious greenwich transplant type. John however remains lovely and courteous, but get rid of the rude greaseball. read more
