This is a mediocre urgent care. They want you to handle all the check in information online including taking a photo of your insurance card front and back and photo ID front and back. It's tedious when you're not feeling well. The lady at the front was kind to others but not particularly nice to me. The clinician who saw me was eager to diagnose my issue as a virus that needed to run its course rather than listening to me when I advocated for myself since I knew what was wrong. It's super close to me but I'll hesitate to return in the future. I'd rather go to Patient First for a slightly better experience. read more

We were in a hotel and my daughter woke up not feeling well. Found this urgent care via insurance app and this one. Was very happy. Took our insurance. We got in quickly (it was 8am). Everyone was nice. They did a cultural in house and called in a prescription that I picked up and hour later. Easy and efficient and pleasant - could not have asked for an easier time when finding yourself ill at a hotel in an unfamiliar city. read more

I've been here twice now, yesterday being my most recent and I can't say enough good things about this place! I walked in with no appointment around 12:30pm and was immediately taken back into a room after signing some paperwork up front. All nurses were kind, talkative and thorough. I was having a really rough time physically and on the verge of vomiting while in the room on multiple occasions. The nurses made sure I had a trash can and anti-nausea medication asap. At the end of my visit having my blood, urine and saliva tested, Anna came in to go over my results and was extremely informative when explaining everything to me! I've never had a doctor explain my results so thoroughly before and I made sure to tell her that too. Highly recommend this place. In and out quickly, beautiful facility with a great staff! Wasn't told this by receptionist it pretended not to see me I get wanting to go home but as someone who work 12 hours shifts I'm never rude to a patient even when I'm ready to go..all it had to do was tell me they were close to closing. I am so used to having stressful experiences in urgent care facilities that going to this office is like a breath of fresh air. I have come to this office three or so times and always have the most positive experiences. The receptionists are always lovely, helpful, and kind. All of the staff in the back and the NPs are also extremely pleasant and helpful. I have extreme anxiety about health facilities and they help to ease that entirely. Got my first taste of an ear infection over the weekend and after a restless night of 3-4 hours of sleep, I knew I needed to get a proper diagnosis and medicine. The place opened at 8 but I arrived around 9:30-9:45. No wait. The front office staff were friendly getting me checked in. Then I met the PA, and he immediately diagnosed what I predicted was the issue. He introduced himself, and answered my questions. The space was clean and modern, yet simple. The care I received was respectful, professional, and warmly receptive. Every member of the staff was a good listener and friendly advocate. I can not tell you how much of a better experience this was than any other urgent care I've been to. I don't carry insurance and they were able to give me their rates (and explained what could make that change) over the phone-- with kindness and understanding. Just before that I had been on the phone with the other popular urgent care in town and I thought they might hang up on me. BetterMed treated me with care from the phone call until I walked out the door of my appointment. Hey, my partner and I were even able to have fun and joke with the staff. It been 26 hours and I'm still waiting for the results of my PCR test - to determine whether or not I will be a super-spreader if I travel to a conference out of state. When you REQUIRE an appointment at "urgent care" YOU ARE A DOCTOR's office. NOT urgent care. What a scam!

I try to avoid doctors, but sometimes you have to go. The pros, they really don't need a waiting room, I've never had to wait long enough to sit down. For the most part the staff is friendly. The cons, I haven't actually seen a doctor there yet. Always a nurse practitioner or something, not saying that it's a shady business, but still. Watch your bill, I've had some questionable charges, eventually resolved, but only because I questioned it. My last visit, I don't believe was handled well, took a lot longer than expected, and wasn't taken care of as well as expected. Better than patient first by a long shot, but service may be sliding down hill. Hope to upgrade if I have to go back. read more

After reading the reviews I was terrified I would end up paying $400 for a flu test. But before I went I just made sure on the United website/portal (or whatever Insurance you use) that they are an in network provider. This location was, so I only paid a $60 copay. No one ever wants to be sick. But when it happens you want to be respected and treated well. Our experience this week was above my expectations. My daughter was no feeling well and they treated her immediately. After we left they have followed up twice! Regrettably, my experience closely matches the one Caroleigh describes in her review. I visited this BetterMed location in April and received both excellent customer service and quality care from the physician assistant. On the basis of that office visit alone, I would submit a 5-star review. The trouble began last month, when I received a bill from BetterMed for nearly $400. After insurance adjustments, the total out-of-pocket charge came to $330. For context, my office visit consisted of two parts. First, the PA looked in my ears with an otoscope - the little bright light that is used in most routine check-ups. Next, she identified some minor fluid buildup and recommended an over-the-counter decongestant. No tests or procedures were performed. The visit in its entirety lasted a few minutes. After calling the billing office to discuss the charge, I was instructed to submit a dispute letter. To facilitate doing so, I requested an itemized statement. I have yet to receive any communications other than a second payment request for the original charges. I've visited other urgent care facilities - most of them in the generally much more expensive Washington, DC market - and received far more extensive treatment for less than half the cost. Needless to say, this bill was startling after the pleasant experience I had during my office visit. I'm currently in the process of disputing the charge, and I'll update my review if any pertinent information comes to light. For now, transparency and fairness in pricing is far too crucial to be outweighed by other factors. One star. read more

Went to this location to be seen for a non-COVID related medical reason. Made an appointment yesterday for today at 12:15pm and completed the registration/check-in online prior to my appointment. I arrived 10 minutes early for my appointment and there was a line, no big deal. The receptionist then told everyone that it would be at least a 2.5 hour wait, even for those with appointments. I totally understand that places are understaffed and overbooked, but I was sure to take every step possible to make this appointment easier quicker for everyone involved. I made a point to make the appointment on my lunch break because that is the only time I am able to fit it into my schedule. I now have to call around and frantically find somewhere else to be soon on VERY short notice because I cannot wait 2.5 hours for my appointment. Very frustrating. read more

Went here on the way to another appt after injuring ny shoulder. Was worries about getting in and out on time but once registered, I was in and out in about 20 mins. The PAC Rob was in and he did a thorough exam and made several good therapy recommendations. I was also given info with who to follow up with if my arm didn't improve. Went here for a non covid related illness, and was surprised to see that COVID testing and regular appointments were all being handled the same way; in the same rooms and by the same staff. There is a sign saying that they are following safety protocols, but the fact that the hand sanitizer in the lobby was empty and no one was sanitizing chairs, pens or the lobby desk in between patients made me question the cleanliness and adherence to protocol. I had COVID testing at a different bettermed location last winter and all testing was handled completely separately...which is imperative to keep this virus under control and preventing incidental spread. This is why primary care physicians and hospitals aren't doing COVID testing. There was an elderly person waiting in the lobby for at least 30 minutes alongside a person who was coming in for COVID testing due to exposure with known positive cases within her own family. Service here is excellent. Very quick and efficient, exactly what you would want out of a doctors office when you're sick and just want to get to feeling better. The young lady at the front was efficient and personable, and service from the nurse/ doctor was almost immediate upon entering the waiting room. I saw a PA for MAYBE 3 minutes when I had the flu. She was nice enough in the very brief time I met with her. I have very good health insurance, yet I still received a bill for $206. They billed my insurance $370 for a 3-minute visit. Trying to speak with anyone in their billing department is a nightmare. They do not/will not answer when calling. You have to leave a message and hope that they'll get around to returning your call at some point. When I finally received a phone call from one of the reps in the billing department to discuss my bill, she called me while loudly eating something that sounded like potato chips. She was indignant with me from the minute I answered, and acted as if I was being a burden to her by asking about my bill. When I asked her about the amount I owed, the rep said "yeah well, that's just what our standard rate is, even if we only see you for 20 seconds - $370." Never again will I go here, and I certainly would caution anyone else thinking of going to find out upfront what it'll cost. Expensive lesson learned on my part. read more

This was first experience at Urgent Care in general. It was really clean, nice, and very welcoming. The worker named Nicole was very professional and great! The process was tremendously easy. Every staff member that I approached was nice. The doctor worked quickly and professionally (a super plus because I was on work time). While I was impressed with the short wait time to see a doctor, and the beautiful, new facility, I was less than impressed with 1) a non-diagnosis of an ear infection for my child who had a 104 fever (who I had to take to the ER 2 hours later because she DID have an ear infection- the ER was confused how BetterMed didn't properly diagnose), and 2) an "after hours charge" on my bill because we came to BetterMed on a Sunday (NYE by the way- no where else was open). Apparently "after hours" is 6 pm or later any weekday as well as Saturday or Sunday. Seems to me the "after hours charge" should be included in the steep "doctor's visit" charge on my bill. I actually have to wonder if the other reviewers did their reviews before they received their bill from this place or if I am just crazy. Before receiving my bill, foolish me would've given this place five stars. However, after receiving my bill, I would give no stars if I could. I am only giving two stars because the care was quick and easy. I went to BetterMed on a Saturday morning and had just a five minute wait. I already knew what was wrong with me, my usual sinus infection when the weather changes. Nonetheless, the nurse made me do a flu test. Now I see why, it was a $400 test so I'm sure "it's routine." Of course, it was negative. A nurse practitioner came in and basically said, "Yep, sinus infection." She gave me my prescriptions and I was on my merry way. A month and a half later and the bill comes, it is almost $200 and the overall visit was almost $800. I had a cheaper visit to the St. Mary's emergency room last Fall, and I saw an ACTUAL doctor. The prices they charge here for simple office visits are absolutely ridiculous and are sky high compared to the $30 visits to Patient First. Granted Patient First can seem outdated and I've had my fair share of trouble with them but there should not be this much discrepancy in urgent care prices in the Richmond area. When I get sick again, I will either go to another urgent care or go the ER because either will be cheaper and at least I will get to see an actual doctor. The office is HORRIFIC at billing and violates state laws and its contracts with insurance companies. I have had horrific experiences with both their outsourced back office company and the owners of the practice are rude and refuse to even return my phone calls. They have attempted to balance bill THREE different claims all because their accounting office can't submit claims on time or using the proper provider ID numbers. They screwed up once, called me finally and apologized. Only to then do it AGAIN!!! When they don't get the money because of their own incompetence, they then try to submit illegal collections requests. AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COST. I've never seen a more incompetent doctor's office. read more

The care I received at the location was good and it was fast. However, I received a bill for $369 for a 5 minute, uncomplicated visit. I didn't even see a doctor while I was there. I called and asked for an explanation and an itemized bill. The lady on the phone had no explanation and confirmed that they get many calls complaining about the costs of service. Unfortunately since I have a high deductible plan like everyone else in America, I will suck it up and pay out of pocket. So I went to bettermed and was diagnosed with the flu. My doctor originally refused to write a prescription suggesting elderberry instead. I didn't leave without tamiflu prescription because I told him I couldn't afford another doctor visit if elderberry which isn't even fda approved as treatment for flu didn't work. I shouldn't have to advocate for myself to get medicine when that's the whole purpose of seeing a doctor to treat an illness. They only wrote my doc note for work for 3 days even though the doctor stated not to return for 6-7 or once fever broke for over 24 hours without Tylenol or fever reducer. So I call back to Tell then my fever is still high and the nurse tells me that they cannot extend my doctors note which is insane considering that if I go to work I'll spread the virus. And this was supposed to be my first week on the job. What do I do? My pcp can't see me. They are supposed to do no harm according to ethics code. You are causing me harm but refusing to write a note to cover the actual time the doctor reported I should stay out. I asked if I return can they extend the note and they said no because it's the same illness. Common sense is that the flu typically takes more than a couple days to go away. This to me is just insane. The better business burea and board of medicine should investigate their work note policy. Notes should be written based on diagnosis. They didn't even tell me while I was there that I would need to return to my primary care doctor for a longer note. I wish I had got sick on a week day to avoid dealing with this. I can't believe the poor customer service in this situation. I guess they would rather people go to work sick and spread the flu all over since people can't afford to lose their jobs. I'm hoping my new job will be understanding since these wack jobs can't appropriately help people!! read more

The medical care was efficient, thorough and very kind. Wish BetterMed was our primary source of medical care, but we live in NYC.
