I'm always on the hunt for the perfect strawberry shake -- the kind so thick with real strawberries that you occasionally get a chunk stuck in your straw. That's the gold standard. Betty Rae's shake was tasty and smooth, but it didn't have any actual strawberry pieces, which was disappointing given the $8.99 price tag. For that price, I was expecting a thicker, more old-fashioned shake with real fruit texture. They do have some unusual ice cream flavors. I cannot imagine a goat cheese ice cream but someone will probably love it. Unfortunately, the experience was also dampened by unfriendly service, which makes it hard to justify coming back.

We recently treated ourselves to to Betty Rae's and I found it to be a bit underwhelming. Bookguy's root beer float with vanilla ice cream was nothing special, just like any other he has had, in spite of the root beer being Boylan's. He said the approximate $6 price was reasonable. They have a couple of vegan flavors, which is a plus, but I didn't try them. I had the big scoop chocolate brownie ice cream which was good, but not exceptional. It sounds strange, but I think it was an actually too cold. The flavor improved as it got a bit melty. We spent a little over $12. If the float was $6, then my ice cream was also $6 but didn't include root beer. Both were called big scoops. I couldn't find any prices online to check this, but it would be annoying if this were true. The service was good, especially considering there was a steady line of customers. With several other premium ice cream shops in close proximity, Betty Rae's would not be my first choice.

St. Louis Pork BBQ in a sugar cone, and strawberry in what I would call a pancake cone

Good ice cream. I love the variety of unique and interesting flavors! But the texture of the ice cream is a tad gummy, and there was a weird minerally or metallic flavor that was present in several of the flavors I tried and in the pint of Sweet Cream I took home, so my favorite around town remains Coneflower Creamery. The St. Louis BBQ was really good! The candied bbq ends were amazing with the sweet ice cream. It was like having dessert and lunch at the same time, but in a completely natural partnership. Not weird at all. My surprise favorite was the Olive oil peppercorn. The pepper flavor was present, but lightly, in an unobtrusive way, and the olive oil provided this lovely, delicious, lightly aromatic warmth on the finish that was unexpectedly delightful. Neither the olive oil peppercorn nor the St. Louis BBQ had the weird metallic flavor in the cream base that I noticed in the samples I tried. The waffle cones are interesting--I would call them more pancake cones. The way they're put together tends to leave holes in the bottom, so watch out! Eat fast or grab a few napkins! They're so pretty, though, with the design imprints, and they taste all right, but are softer than a typical waffle cone, which can be nice. The second time we came, I tried the sugar cone, and it was nice and crunchy, but not especially outstanding. Service both times we went here was pleasant, and the seating options are good--both inside and outside seating are available. I love the cheeky signage around the shop.

All I wanted was a milkshake and left disappointed. I think the folks working were new to the milkshake process and were struggling to get the right consistency. They were also out of small cups so you had to get a regular/large at the time. S- $6.99 M- $7.99 L-$8.99 The space inside has lots of seating, stays cool, and has some cute decorations. It looks like they have lots of fun flavors of ice cream to try and a few flight options to get a variety of flavors at once. Maybe we'll stick to ice cream next time - lots of parking when we went. It is a smaller shared lot and fills up sometimes but you can always park down a bit further.

I had just heard about Betty Rae's and told my husband. So here we are, the ice cream is very good. We had the ice cream flight which I think is a great idea for an ice cream shop. We got butter, pecan, mint and chocolate, lavender honey, ooooey gooey, s'mores and cookies and cream. My absolute favorite was the mint chocolate. It was so fresh like they used the mint from my garden. My husband's favorite was s'more's. Service was pretty quick considering there was only one employee and a line. Nice little ice cream place if you're in Aksarben.

Delicious icecream and some unique flavors to explore. We did the flight of icecream which was 6 flavors. Perfect for our family night out. Service was fantastic and helpful suggestions were made. Was still decorated for Christmas and ohh so cute!

Cute little ice cream shop right by aksarben off of center. They have a variety of ice cream cone flavors plus shakes. I've always been more of a shake connoisseur myself than purely an ice cream connoisseur but I thought I'd give their ice cream cones a shot! They had a variety of nontraditional flavors such as goat cheese, lavender honey and sweet cream plus more traditional flavors as well. I ended up being basic and had strawberry and cookies and cream. Their strawberry ice cream tasted like a typical strawberry homemade ice cream; Good but nothing I've never had before. Their cookies and cream I thought was pretty exceptional and better than coneflowers comparatively. Overall, I'd come back. Goat cheese and lavender honey are next on my list!

5 stars for Betty Rae's. Delicious, rich ice cream with traditional and unique flavors. Well, the prices are a tad high, the quality makes up for it. No graininess or crystallization in the ice cream--nice and rich and smooth. They have the classic flavors like strawberry, vanilla, chocolate, and coffee... But they also had some interesting ones like lavender, honey, goat cheese, cereal, milk, and ooey butter cake. One thing I appreciated was the freshness of the toppings. At a lot of ice cream places, the toppings sit in open containers and get stale pretty quickly. The gummy bears on my son's ice cream were nice and soft. The workers are friendly, welcoming, each group or person that comes in and also thanking them for coming when they leave. Quite busy on a weekend night, we had to wait behind about eight or nine people, but there were three or four people behind the counter, so they moved people through pretty quickly. One thing they could've done better on was cleanliness. They didn't have anyone doing regular sweeps of the dining room, so there ended up being a lot of stains on the benches, tables, and floors.

Betty Rae's Ice Cream's S'mores Sundae and the ridiculously good, Ooey-Gooey kids scoop, to end the evening Also, that Goat Cheese flavor... whoalllly yum!

I loved the cute single serve cups I received at a catering event recently! A perfect serving of ice cream and a spoon in the lid. The ice cream had a perfect creamy, coffee flavor!

We're From Nebraska: "Sure we stop in to get Ice Cream at 3 PM after a -5 degree day." We're From Nebraska: "Sure we're excited that they have a basket of Lactaid at the check out." Betty Rae's hit the spot. Zack was our Ice Cream Tour Guide and didn't leave anyone behind. His fave flavor was the hit for everyone, that tried it. Sad to hear he traded his home in the warm 50th State for the Midwest Tundra, but we all ended up here at one point. Pumpkin Pie in the fridge. Ice Cream Sandwiches with fresh cookies. Super Warm inside and plenty of room...but I definitely see some busy summer nights in their future.

Strawberry in a sugar cone. This was her replacement ice cream which she dropped too after a couple bites.

After a long day at the zoo my husband wanted to get a sweet treat. He searched online and found Betty Rae's that was on our way home. We went not knowing anything about it and I was very happy with the find. It was a cute little shop and they had a lot of different flavors. They had all the classics like cookie dough, chocolate, etc.. and had more gourmet/exotic flavors like creme brulee, matcha, goat cheese, etc. I tried a couple samples but decided to go with a classic, cookie dough. My son got chocolate in a cake cone and my daughter got strawberry in a sugar cone. My husband got a big chocolate Sundae in a waffle cone with brownie toppings. They were all delicious! My 3 year old daughter immediately dropped her first scoop of ice cream so the girl working there gave her a replacement for free. Unfortunately after a couple bites she dropped that one too. Classic crying kid in an ice cream shop. After the 2nd dropped ice cream, I bought her another scoop but in a cup this time. Great service and ice cream! Definitely will come back next time we are in the area.

Good ice cream! Love the kids sized portion cause I never want much ice cream, prices were high though. Will come back if I'm in the area. They seemed short staffed but still moved us through quickly. Inside and outside seating!

Branded as "Farm to cone", they have an exciting flavor variety to intrigue the adults in the room, of which there were quite a few. I sampled a more classic mint chocolate chip and a more experimental basil flavor with white chocolate chips, both kind of thematically similar. Both flavors hit hard, and the house waffle cone was thinner than I expected but pleasingly browned and it held up well. While the focus on dairy is expected, they do offer several sorbets for those whose dietary needs require it. Business was vigorous even on a midweek night, and I would note that for an ice cream place in an area where the sun does not set in summer until almost 9, they close on the early side, so hurry on over.
