Very disappointing experience. We booked a trail ride for our kids' birthday celebration and confirmed the time in advance. We arrived before check-in but had trouble finding the exact location due to unclear directions. When we found Betty in person, she told us it was "too late" and refused to let us participate--even though we still had time to make the ride. We also tried calling multiple times beforehand with no answer. The lack of flexibility and customer service was frustrating, and our kids were very disappointed. Betty SUCKS! read more

They picked our day and time for a ride for two people, when we showed up it started raining and they told us we would have to wait it out (not sure why the would schedule on a day and time when it was going to rain). We waited around two hours the rain was still active so we chose to get a refund. A refund wasn't available since it was through groupon so i disputed with my bank. The business owner then told the bank that we had completed a ride with them which was a lie. They also tell you, you HAVE to be there 15 minutes before or you won't be allowed to ride since they have to teach you how to be on the horse and sign paper work by when you get there you will be waiting for around 40 minutes for the ride that was scheduled before yours to be finished and there will be no one on sight to tell you what is happening. read more

I was looking forward to this outing very much, and it was quite disappointing. There was garbage everyone which was disgusting. We were told to arrive at 3:45 and no one was there to greet us. The girl finally came out, didn't greet us, just told us to sign the waivers and wait. Our guide Ashley had no customer service skills. She swore nonstop and called the horses names. Our trail walk was definitely not an hour. The one bright spots was the horses, who were sweet. I was worried that there were no barns to protect the horses from the sun. We never met Betty at all. Terrible experience.. just disappointed. I booked a Groupon and called and made arrangements for a 930 wed morning ride. Due to a missed exit we arrived at just before 930 around 925 or so. There were 2 other gentlemen there that just finished signing their papers however the didnnot turn them in yet. The guy like Betty's niece saw us stand there for a goodn10 min before coming over then saying we were late and there was no time to do paperwork. Even though the 2 Caucasian gentlemen whonwere there said they isn't mind the paper work takes 2min. Then she says there's not enough horses because one was shot with a pellet gun last night. If this was known it ahould behave been communicated last night or early this morning. She just said we would have to reschedule. Never taking into account the drive the inconvenience nothing. She kept saying her next trail was 1040. She was already behind. No horses were even saddled. So we stood there and watch her get the two Caucasian gentlemen their horses and they finally left at 10am.. which was scheduled at 930am. So they were already behind fornthe day.. she would not be back before 1040. Because the caucasian gentlemen made it clearly known that they paid for 1 hour theynexpected one hour. And its nit their or our fault that they were behind schedule. Ms Betty and her niece failed to communicate that they had an injured horse failed to call anyone while on our way.. even failed to follow up at 915 to say we needed to reschedule. They failed to apologize.. failed to take any accountability. She didnt even try. It was humiliating and frankly felt incredibly racist. My guide was Ashley and she was wonderful friendly and knowledgeable. I can't wait to go back. About the horses they were wonderful. Very well trained and taken care of.. I've ridden a lot of trail rides and their horses were some of the best trail horses I have seen. The ride was a good ride. We took trails with little slopes and admired the desert landscape. Was there with my family early this morning after a 1.5 hour car ride. Dave asked if we had ridden horses before, my boyfriend and I said yes, but we let him know that my 7-year-old son had never ridden before. We were very excited to ride horses together. When we started the trail, there was a steep entrance into it, and my son's horse stopped and would not go down the trail. He didn't know what to do. Dave was yelling instructions from down the hill and my son's horse wouldn't budge (maybe his horse was tired or wasn't up for the trek). Dave got off of his horse and walked up to us and said that we needed to go back and said, "I asked if you guys had ridden before and you all shook your heads yes", though we did say that our son had NOT RIDDEN BEFORE. He was very rude in the process and his behavior toward customers has been stated in many other reviews on Google and Trip Advisor (I'm not sure how this was shocking to Betty). When we returned Preston was kind and apologized and said that the horse gets like that sometimes. He was the best one that we came into contact with. Betty replied to my boyfriend's review with an inaccurate description of the event that took place. He had called her and texted her, she answered initially, but he had no success when checking back in with her for a refund. This situation was handled without care, rudely, and unprofessionally. To the best of our understanding one did NOT need to have experience with riding (it's written on their website). My boyfriend called her and asked when we left and she said, "no you don't need experience" and initially sounded concerned, but apparently after she spoke with Dave she changed her mind?? So, if you are inexperienced, you will not be treated with care. This place is a far drive, looks like something straight out of hoarders and I'm not very confident that these poor horses are taken very good care of. In summary, go somewhere else with better customer service and with employees and ownership with care and people skills. How Disappointing and total waste of our time! We drove about an hour and a half coming from East Valley on a nice, beautiful Saturday looking forward to a nice experience but it was nowhere what we expected! The person or guide did not have any customer service skills whatsoever! All she said to us was to sign the waivers and let us wait ! The place was sketchy, not a presentable business at all! I felt bad for the animals! We were there before check in time at 3:45 then our ride was at 4pm, still no word, no briefing, all she said was, we're waiting for one more person! What?! Such a fun time! Family owned and very relaxed. Me and my friends went for a birthday and had a great time! It's a slow ride but it's beautiful to enjoy. Our guide was super sweet and hands off which was nice. She road ahead and let us ride calling back to us if we needed help with our horses. We purchased a Groupon and were so excited to go explore this area. After reading Betty's website we were hoping to get some good stories told to us on the ride. Nope, we got the grumpy guy (and Betty's niece who was nice). Trust me, I know grumpy...matter of fact my friend and I are grumps ourselves. Except the difference is you would never know it. We just both gave each other the ugh" look after first meeting him. He wasn't as bad towards the end but still not worth paying money to be around. Yes, we had to weigh in - that doesn't bother me. As I drive up I was shocked to see the entire place looked like a junkyard. Old abandoned mobile homes, piles of debris everywhere. My daughter picked up a small bag full of beer bottle caps while we were waiting. We were told to be 15 min early. One of our party was 10 min late and they kept saying they were going to cancel our ride. But it took them over an hour to get us on the horses. They made me get on a scale in front of everyone. It was humiliating. My friend walks with a cane and they loudly debated for at least 29 minutes whether they were going to let her ride. She was perfectly capable and had to argue with them but finally was able to take the ride. We had 3 young girls with us. The trail guide cussed the entire time. He dropped the F-bomb so many times I lost count. He barely spoke to any of us. Because it took them so long to get us on the horses they took us on a 20 minute ride on a very unimpressive trail. DO NOT waste your money. This place was not safe. The guide was terrible and Betty's 94 year old husband was our second guide. He did nothing but yell at everyone the entire ride. Betty was incredibly nice when I spoke with her on the phone to reserve the spots. For the most part it was a very boring ride, he makes you stay in single file and you go about 2 mph the entire time. If you are looking for a calm and mellow place then this is the place for you. If you want to actually ride the horse instead of just sit on it then go anywhere else. The reason for the 2 stars is the gentleman who took us on the ride was about as rude and inconsiderate as it gets. He has no clue how to treat customers and was very snippy, he had an awful and very un inviting mood. We were never sent a confirmation of any type until the day before our ride, when we discovered that the person booking our ride had mistakenly scheduled us an hour earlier than we had scheduled. Not only did they refuse to return any contact attempt until late in the day after our ride would have taken place, but they were extremely rude and told me that booking mistake she made, was MY confusion and error. On Oct 11th i took my daughter and her friend to go horse back riding there. First of all it was in the middle of the afternoon and 2 older cowboys were sitting outside drinking beer. That did not make me feel too comfy letting the girls on with guides that might be drinking alcohol.. I was glad to find out they were not the guides. They just worked there. Either way it didnt seem to professional Anyway The email said to arrive 15 minutes early which we did. We got there at 115 the ride was suppose to start at 130. The girls did not get started with their ride until 220. We were told that the last group had been late for their ride. My feeling on that is they should have brought them back at the scheduled time since it was their fault they were late. First let me say the female.person who we spoke to on the phone was very nice and friendly. We drove to the location the directions provided were very easy to follow. My daughter and I were visiting family in Scottsdale and I found a great deal on Groupon for an hour ride for 2 people for $60. My 7 1/2 year old daughter has been looking forward to this as well as myself so we were excited to not only ride a horse, but with an amazing landscape! Spoke with Betty on the phone a week prior to us arriving in Scottsdale and from looking at a map, it looked like it was about 50/60 mins away from my family's home. Our ride was schedule for 8-9 on Saturday morning, so we left in ample amount of time at 6:30am for a 8am ride. We made it out to Lake Pleasant and was pleasantly surprised thinking we would be early. Since we left in plenty of time, to make the 8am ride, we got little to no traffic which was great, but little did we know we drove past where we were supposed to go. We were supposed to turn at mile Marker 19, when I looked we were at mile marker 4. We were completely lost. I pulled over and called the number as it said to do... Called the main number as and was told to call a cell phone number. Called the cell phone number, but I was in the middle of nowhere, having crappy cell service and or no cell phone service and when I did have service my call kept going in and out and eventually was lost. Spoke briefly to Jennifer, the granddaughter of the owner Betty. She told me since I was lost, I was not going to make my ride that I had already paid for, because I was about 15/20mins away from where I should've been and I was supposed to be there 15 mins before my ride. By the time I got to the correct road, I went down it and followed it literally until the end, it was 8:05. I finally had service to call back and was told you are late and cannot do your ride and would have to be scheduled. I am visiting family and do not have time to drive another 50/60 mins out to fit into my short schedule. I tried to explain that and they only cared about rescheduling me to another day. Not that I was lost and on the right road trying to find them. At this point I was angry and I didn't want to talk to them because they were only making me aggravated. They say to not use GPS...but I am not from this town, even this state-how else do you find a destination out in the middle of no where?? End result: my daughter and I didn't make it to the ride, we were lost, she was crying and I was aggravated. Please consider using another place to horse back ride. It is not worth driving across town to be treated the way we were and not even help us find the location. read more

After reading some very negative reviews, I was a bit leery about booking with Betty's Trail Rides. However, we were pleasantly surprised. There were four of us in our party and two others riding. Both of the guides were very pleasant and considerate. Yes, we were all weighed when we got there, but there was a good reason for that. I understand some people being sensitive about their weight, but the health and safety of the horses is at stake. We found the area to be rustic and loved the ranch dogs! We were here on vacation from out of state and are unfamiliar with the area. We were recommended to Betty's Trail Rides by the timeshare we are owner's with and resort we were staying at. When booking with Betty, she assured us that we would be able to keep our bags somewhere at the stables as we do not have a car, that we would we be able to Uber there and back, and that the lake would be a short walk from the stables. All of this ended up being false. After arriving we found we had no service, and no way to get a ride back to the resort. My husband and I walked 2 miles and then hitch hiked just to get to a highway where we could get cell service to order an Uber. The staff did not offer to help at any point, knowing all of this. We then spent over $150 in attempts at Ubering/trying to find a rental car asap (which there were none in the area) in order to go pick up the rest of my family from Betty's to get us all back to the resort. At the very least we should have been informed that there is no service OR wifi available at this location. We received a detailed email invitation the day before the ride, which never mentioned lack of cell service/wifi or transportation. After finally getting back to our resort about 5 hours later, we called and brought up our incident to Betty herself, who denied ever giving us all of the misinformation upon booking, and she offered NO amends. Maybe with her age she had forgotten the details of the conversation, but we certainly wouldn't have planned everything out (scheduled Uber, brought small bags and lake supplies) if she hadn't told us those things. While the resort has been sympathetic about our experience, Betty and the staff at Betty's Trail Rides were not. read more
