What is also really nice is since this trail is near most of the ranches and farm land, there are ranchers and farmers who take their horses through here to help get them air and train them as well as practice with them too. What I really like about this trail is how there are parts that seem to show the remains of maybe where ranches maybe used to be. The fences and the feeding trays for livestock are still here and it's nice to see. And then there is the distance as well as time it could take to complete certain trails too. So be careful you don't get lost or miss the exit and end up looping around in circles. I would still check out this trail but watch your step as the horses may leave feces on the trail.

The barn manager Sam is incredibly knowledgeable, aware and invested in the best interest of the horse. The owners are on site daily and make every effort to create community for their boarders. So glad we chose the Hat Ranch, as it suits our outdoor style to a "T". The directions in were very easy to follow, and our Toyota Tacoma picked up a beautiful red patina of Arizona dust. Sharon, our host, greeted us at the main house and then escorted us to our quarters. As this was our first time here, she took extra time explaining all about our stay, which included a home cooked breakfast today. You can Google the Historic Hat Ranch for all the cool details, but suffice to say there are some very presidentially mended fences here on the expansive 2,800 acres. Our room was very nice, twin beds and a nicely appointed bathroom. Also a spacious deck to view the open Ranch space. We opened the windows and breathed in the fresh air...scented with juniper and noble fir trees right out our door. We didn't see any, but Sharon told us Elk frequented the area often. Many other wild creatures to see too, including javelinas. The baby colt on the way in made my wife's day, and he quickly posed for some pictures and romped away. This has been a perfect cherry on the top of our anniversary Sunday. If you love the outdoors and crave a rustic Ranch experience with warm hospitality, the Hat Ranch is the place for you.

Yes it's predominantly a kids' summer camp but adults have very different needs food-wise. Pizza, chicken nuggets and having fried potatoes on repeat doesn't cut it. And the portions were absolutely abysmal. Yes you can go up for seconds, but the service could have been more at the get go. You're feeding folks that have been rappelling, rock climbing, paddling, hiking and fishing all day!! We needed something more nutritious and appropriate for adults!!
