Was there during the annual $.05 sale, and they had some great items on sale including Angels Envy Bourbon and Luxardo Cherries 2 for $25! My biggest problem, was that I asked for an item they did not currently carry, and the guy at the register told me to go to Total Wine or Hi-times. I was at BevMo because I wanted to give my money to Bevmo, not Total or Hi-Times. If he would have offered to order the product in, I would have been happy to return the next week to buy it. I've given this BevMo multiple chances, but every visit has been a disappointment. The customer service is consistently terrible, and the manager is the biggest problem. He's rude, dismissive, and completely uninterested in helping customers. If you ask him a question, he barely acknowledges you and just points instead of offering real assistance. Lots of his other employers are just as terrible as he is. On my most recent visit, I was expecting a simple, pleasant shopping experience. Instead, I left feeling frustrated and insulted. The disrespectful attitude from the manager and staff made it clear they have no interest in making customers feel welcome. I usually avoid this location, but every time I do give it another chance, I regret it. This time, my daughter and her friend, visiting from Germany, stopped to pick up a bottle of espresso martini. Her friend, who is 22, had forgotten her physical ID at home but had a copy on her phone. When the manager refused to accept the digital copy, my daughter (also 22) offered to buy it instead. They were both well-dressed after a nice dinner in Newport and were shocked by how rudely the manager dismissed them. Meanwhile, I was sitting in my car holding my 3-pound, 4-month-old teacup puppy. When I saw what was happening, I calmly walked into the store puppy in hand, to understand the situation. I remained polite and composed, even smiling at how ridiculous the manager was being. Still, he continued to be incredibly rude. Even though both young women had valid IDs, he refused to sell the bottle, simply because it was clear the purchase was intended for our German visitor, who only had a copy of her ID. What happened next was completely unacceptable. As I stood there, shocked by the unnecessary hostility, the manager physically put both hands on my shoulders and pushed me out of the store. I couldn't believe it. As a well-dressed, polite, and educated mother, I did not deserve to be treated this way, especially over a simple and reasonable request. This level of unprofessionalism is appalling. A store should not be run like this, and no manager should treat paying customers with such blatant disrespect. It's no wonder I now go out of my way to shop at Total Wine instead, at least there, they know how to treat people. Unless major changes happen at this BevMo, I will never be back. read more

My wife and I stopped into the Costa Mesa BevMo this past evening to purchase a large number of Christmas gifts. We had a budget of approx. $3,000.00 to which we had hoped to purchase numerous gifts of liquor and wine for family, friends and several Christmas Parties. As we planned on spending over an hour within the store to carefully select our would-be choices, I politely asked a cast member if I could use the restroom and have the code for the door lock. The employee snapped back , "No, they're closed." The cast member then walked away, not saying a further word nor offering any assistance. My wife then approached a different employee and asked if she could use the restroom and the employee stated, "They're not available." Then, walked away offering no further assistance. So, we picked up one bottle of wine and left. To be honest, we shouldn't have given them any business whatsoever, but we needed this gift for the following day and as it was late and we were a bit tired after a day of shopping. Yeah, we're seniors. Okay, I know there is an issue with homeless people and tweakers in this business complex and I understand they're difficult to deal with and no doubt theft is a constant issue. But seriously? It was very clear we were not grifters or toothless crack addicts, searching for any opportunity to steal a bottle of hooche and skedaddle out the front door only to get plastered in the parking lot and found at 2:00AM lying in a puddle of urine, only to be told by Costa Mesa PD to get out of their city,.'"Try Newport Beach, they'd love to have you visit." Wherein, they drive away laughing. I've always found BevMo to stock a fair inventory of unique selections and the overall experience to be somewhat enjoyable. But clearly, the management of this store and it's horrifically lackadaisical staff needs a reminder that customer service still matters in the world of business. So, looks like we're heading to Costa Mesa Wine & Spirits this weekend to complete our purchases after a comforting meal at Mi Casa (Yeah, their tacos are incredible!). To the management at BevMo, I strongly suggest that if you wish to remain quasi-relevant in the business world, be a bit more selective in how you operate your stores and never forget, you're only as good as your last sale. And yes, this will probably be our last purchase at BevMo as I'll gladly pay a few dollars more to purchase elsewhere, heck, even Bristol Farms has a unique and wonderfully inventive offering of wine and liquor and my wife will buy me a chocolate chip cookie if I behave whilst shopping. read more

****Customer Service and Great Selection**** I came in on New Year's Eve and it was super busy. Combined with social distancing procedures and standing in line to get in, I was anticipating a long time shopping. That was not the case. Despite the long line outside, we only waited a few minutes. On entering the store there appeared to be a long line waiting to check out. A gentleman by the name of Patrick introduced himself and asked how he could help. Patrick pointed out several specialty drinks and different types of alcohol. He had great ideas and was an enormous help. He saved a great amount of time. We wrnt to go stand in line and it only took about 5 minutes despite all the people. I was surprised by the diversity of products and different quality of the products. I am a fan! read more

I don't personally have anything of note to comment on this BevMo! Its an alright bev store and its got a lot of options which is cool if you're really into options. It might be a bit more expensive than other bev stores but I do pretty good financially and am not super concerned on the price of a six pack of Hazy Little Things IPA - Limited Edition - Cosmic Little Things IPA. Which on another note is a wild thing that the people at Sierra Nevada Brewing Company are doing. They keep coming out with " Limited Edition " versions of that beer that taste exactly the same. But like I still by them because I like Hazy Little Thing IPA and it would be cool if they did have limited edition beers that were really good and cool. The real review is in regards to what my friend's mom said they heard in line at this BevMo. Well at least I'm pretty sure it was this BevMo. This girl was getting a recommendation on drinks and the cashier said they like Cutwaters which are canned cocktails - not really my thing. And then the cashier said to be careful though because they are 13% alcohol content. And then the girl said "oh wow, how did they fit that much alcohol in this little can". While my friend's mother was only telling this story to get a laugh and express her inner misogyny. I feel like it was a nice moment and it made me reevaluate life. People should be allowed to be a little dim, the world doesn't have to be only doctors, lawyers, and retired model train experts. Other people can just go about their day and be who they wanna be. By the looks of the reviews, I'm not the first person to have an issue with customer service at this location. I stopped in yesterday to stock up before the 4th of July weekend, and three different employees refused to provide the code for the restroom. They sent me to CVS next door, and their restroom was locked and reserved for customers only. I'm not sure what the legality is for refusing a bathroom to customers, but they lost my business yesterday and in the future. read more

This lady staff must have sent some kind of signal because all working staff came to the front to literally watch me, really! I have hope one day this shit will stop happening to people of color as I am an African American male, but I guess they work at BevMo for a reason. It's a gamble coming here in terms of customer service (or even the presence of any employees). Selection is less than Total Wine and prices are higher than Total Wine. Staff are not as knowledgeable and the organization of the store is not as clean as Total Wine. I came because I was in the area and doing last minute shopping for a trip. I had a gift card so I figured why not. It'll get the job done but if you don't subscribe to the BevMo vs Total Wine camp and don't care where you get your drinks, then Total Wine would be my suggestion. I am a frequent visitor to this location, as I live very close. It's rare that I have a pleasant experience here and tonight is just another example. They always seem to close early. The place was dark on NYE when I pulled in at 11:40PM, not the first time the stated hours were either incorrect or they just closed early. However, my biggest beef that consistently happens is the lack of urgency and the amount of check out people. I will be walking from the beer cooler up the the front and consistently pass a pod of 2-4 employees bullshitting in one of the isles. Once I get up to the front I either find a long line with one person checking out or no one at a check out stand and one of the bullshitters waddles up to help after I'm standing there for 30 seconds. So annoying. I get it's a big store but they have these things called radios that your employees can use to call for more help when there's a long line, maybe give that a try? It makes sense why this location is a rotating door for their employees. read more

Went in today to purchase a few different items. My time as I was shopping was pretty uneventful and merely came down to finding what I went in for. Unfortunately, the check out process was quite unwelcoming. Yetzel helped during checkout and to call the level of customer service subpar is actually a huge compliment to her. After checking my ID, she asked for my friends too ( NEVER have I ever had a cashier ask for 2 IDs when buying alcohol but according to my passive aggressive cashier-its REQUIRED by state law for ALL..uuhhhh ok). Got past that only to awkwardnes when I said have a case of beer in the cart and her saying..ok, well I need it out to scan. I understand needing to scan,that's obvious BUT every other cashier has always said oh ok, I'll go ahead and scan it- no need to put it on the belt. Not sure if this girl was having a bad day but she definitely made it awkward, unwelcoming, quoted redundant policy)law and had a serious dose of passive aggressiveness. Avoid going to this location to buy your beer, wine, or liquor at ALL costs. Not only does this location have some of the WORST customer service I've ever experienced... But I was actually yelled at by the store manager and told to, "Get out of her store" and had to endure a rant about how she's upset and angry working 60 hour weeks so "people like you can have your alcohol." I called two days ago to order by phone since they won't let people in the store. The guy on the phone seemed reluctant and annoyed I was even calling. The he rushed me off the phone hanging up before telling when I should show up to pick it up. Hoping this was an isolated incident with a rude employee, I called 6 hours later. This time a different guy told me, "That's not my job. I'm just trying to get people in and out of here. Someone will call or email you when it's ready." The next day I called, yet again, and was finally told the order was ready for pickup. I arrived ready and while at the register tried to pay with a gift card. The women at the register couldn't get the gift card to run and called the manager in frustration. The manager came over, tried to get it to work and said I couldn't pay with a gift card right now because the computer wasn't working for some unknown reason. When I got expressed my disappointment and mentioned to her the several rude interactions I had with employees over the phone and now they won't accept gift cards... She blew up at me and that's when I had to endure her rant right up until she told me to leave. So, only go to this location if you like dealing with extremely rude employees or enjoy getting yelled at and treated like a nuisance for continuing to spend money with them. This was my last visit to this store and I'll be buying my wine from Total Wine or the grocery store from now on. On a positive note, they actually did get my order right and I did save a lot of money with their 5 cent wine sale. But I'd say it wasn't worth the berating I had to endure to get it. I understand everyone is stressed right now, but seems ridiculous to take it out on the customers that are supporting your business. read more

Looked at the receipt and they were 20+% over any grocery store in my area. Walked back in in a matter of two minutes (time stamped) but would not return two of the items. I purchase liquor and sodas from this location all the time, those aren't things I'd ever expect to return or exchange. However I purchased some craft spirit glasses, a 4 pack. That had no tape, or anything to keep the box closed. The box is not see through. I got home and checked the box, to find one glass was cracked. I went by a few days later in hopes to exchange it for a box that wasn't broken, and was going to insist we check before leaving. I also planned to buy 4 nosing glasses as well. I put my box with the broken glass on the counter, and went to grab a new box and the other items I planned to purchase. I got back to the counter and the manager Yetzel (that's how it's pronounced, didn't catch spelling) she said there was nothing she could do since the box had been opened. I said, well, I have a new box in my hand and there's no tape or sealant on this box, how do you know this one hasn't been opened, and how would I know the glass is broken if I didn't open to see. Her response was simply, "well shouldn't have opened it, sounds like a personal problem" Hot garbage. So if you need alcohol I guess their convenience will work, but if you wanna buy accessories, check them before you leave the store cuz they will not help you anymore. Had a similar issue last year with a stemless wine glass in a box, they swapped it no problem, seems like a newish team, the managers attitude was questionable in the least. read more

I was told by her that the computer wouldn't accept 6 individual bottles and I needed to order only one kind of wine. So Ridiculous! The service at this location is terrible compared to the Huntington Beach location. Had a large order for delivery that their staff pulled. Was shorted two non alcohol items and called them to let them know. Gabby said she would take care of it, when I stopped by was told that it was not approved by management. While driving in Costa Mesa and talking about what to get as a gift for my friend's birthday, my husband recalled that we were close to a BevMo. I'd never been to this one and thought that was a great idea for a gift. I had been having trouble deciding what to get him, but I was sure that there would be some liquor he might like as a birthday gift. I was pleased to find that this BevMo was large. Beers, a good selection of gift sets, liquors, mini liquors, caviar, candies, they seemed to have it all. I settled on a tequila gift set and found Laker glasses, which I decided to buy for other gifts. I was set and hadn't spent that much at all. And the laid back, mellow atmosphere that I like with the BevMo's I've been to was there. H & I could go off into the night with all that we needed. read more
