I've been here before but never gotten anything for myself! Finally made it here again with some friends. I'm not a big coffee drinker but I got the classic sando with the spicy salami! It was pretty good! I ate alllll of it and I initially thought I would only eat half and save the half for later. My friends got drinks and a sandwich and a pastry. They said they enjoyed it as well. Service was great - nothing special that I remember. They were nice and quick. Ambiance is very relaxed. Cafe vibes. Lots of people in computers working or just hanging out with friends! Been wanting to try this place for a while now and finally had the chance recently. It did not disappoint! I got the breakfast burrito with bacon. I was tempted by the pastrami option bc I don't know anyone else that does PASTRAMI in a breakfast burrito! If I'm being honest, it felt more like a wrap than a burrito bc it was full of cabbage and the sauces provided were like chimichurri and sriracha vs salsa. It still was really good and tasty though! It was crowded on a Sunday morning but luckily a few tables were available. The line was out the door but it moved quickly. The inside is cute with natural lighting and a clean white and wooden look. First of all, I absolutely love the name "Work In Progress," and the customer service we received was exceptional. The person taking my order offered some great suggestions. We ended up loving our drinks--the taste was delicious and the presentation was beautiful. We also really enjoyed the atmosphere, especially the lighting inside and the outdoor seating area. It was a great surprise to find that they offer food as well. On the day we visited, there was a cheesecake vendor on-site, and it was truly delicious. I will definitely be telling others that if that vendor is there, they should not pass up getting a slice! Thank you for such a lovely experience! read more

Updating my review since I got coffee drinks this time and honestly, I prefer the coffee over there Matcha any day. The cold brew was really good and the cream top wasn't too sweet. Parking is always a bit of a struggle at this area in Costa Mesa, but overall would definitely come back for the coffee. read more

Quick a hip coffee shop, we were in the area and came here to grab breakfast and coffee. I forgot what drinks we all got, but I do remember that we all enjoyed each of our drinks. The AM Burrito comes with your choice of bacon or pastrami and also a side of pickled onions, house green sauce, and hot sauce. The burrito was tasty and made for a delicious breakfast. The price is certainly a little expensive, but it comes sliced, so you can split it with someone. The split portion was a solid amount for breakfast. Overall, it was a solid experience and I wouldn't mind revisiting! read more

This place was recommended to me by my YE friend Bonnie, so my bf and I stopped by on a Sunday morning. I almost had a full moment here but I got sidetracked by the cafe across the street and we ended up doing coffee here and breakfast over there. Lol. The vibe is super chill. It's a smaller space, but they make good use of it with both indoor and outdoor seating. Service was quick and efficient, even with how packed it gets. The coffee was delicious! We also shared a croissant topped with pistachio cream and the Ube madeleine but that was a total miss. They were dry like Sahara desert dry and tasted like it had been sitting out for a while. I'm not convinced they make their pastries in-house. Still, I'd absolutely come back for the coffee and would love to actually try their breakfast next time minus the pastries. read more

For a place called Work in Progress, it seems to have figured things out already. It's always buzzing, rarely empty, and the overall vibe suggests this café is starting to outgrow its own footprint. Service is smooth, and efficient. The line moves quickly, and everyone seems genuinely happy to be there. The interior is bright and open, lively without feeling hectic, with a minimal industrial calm. No table charge means laptops stay awhile, but spots still open up sooner than you'd think. Of the list of sandos, I've tried the SPICY SANDO, CLASSIC SANDO, and the BREAKFAST SANDO. All were excellent. The focaccia bread stood out in particular. Light, buttery, and crispy. It holds up well and ties everything together. Of the drinks I tried, the PUMPKIN SPICE LATTE WITH ALMOND MILK, DE LA ROSA MAZAPAN PEANUT LATTE, MAPLE BROWN SUGAR LATTE, PISTACHIO CREAMTOP MOCHA, and VANILLA LATTE WITH SEASONAL CINNAMON CREAM TOP were all solid, with flavors that stayed controlled and not overly sweet. It's been over a few years since I've been here since I moved away but I decided to come back with a friend for a light lunch. I used to get their rosemary latte which was delicious. I love that their sandwhiches are on focaccia bread. I ordered the tuna sandwhich and a pistachio cream top matcha latte. It was a little watered down maybe from ice or maybe too much milk. Overall the vibes of this place is really relaxing and nice. Some of the seating can be a little low or uncomfortable for longer durations but the outside patio is a good spot. It can be very quiet inside since there's usually more people working than hanging out. Parking can be difficult, they have a small lot and some street parking, but you can also try the camp area and walk through the middle. Food is delicious, matcha was okay, interior was unique. read more

My weekend ritual for a while was sitting at WIP, ordering a sandwich, and reading or journaling. It's too loud to do either comfortably, but i have noise canceling headphones. I love this place. They have fantastic food - criminally underrated (?) a BIT pricey, but i think it's worth it. If you go on a weekend, expect to do a couple rounds before you find parking. My favorite sandwich is the classic turkey sando, but I recently managed to steal a bite from my buddy's spicy sando, and, oh my god, it was so good. The breakfast burrito is also delicious, but not your classic breakfast burrito: there is pickled cabbage in there, so if you're not into that, skip it. I am into that. read more

Located in the Camp, WIP has a unique menu of coffee and breakfast/sando items. We ordered the Brown butter foam over the cold brew which is very buttery with chunks of brown butter swimming in the creamy top. The hot latte is standard. The Pastrami breakfast burrito is different and tasty! It is enough for two meals. Pastries from Nonna Mercato in Long Beach. Parking easy in the morning. I came here with my girl friends after a dinner to check out their wine bar at night and it was such a vibe. There was no wait on a Friday night so there was lots of seating. I really liked the ambient lighting and the music which really set the tone of the mood. It's the perfect spot to go to for a date or intimate hangout. The wine the worker suggested was also really good too. read more

Really cool vibes here at Work in Progress with it's casual and airy space with plenty of seating, it's busy but chill. Though I wouldn't say it's the best place to get work done, there were a few that seemed to be. Perfect to lounge around and comfortable atmosphere. Very aesthetically pleasing without feeling overly minimal or uppity. Delicious Matcha with cream top! Their matcha is easy to drink, smooth not astringent at all. Perfectly sweetened. Cream top was so yummy! Love seeing all the little pop ups they do here, hope to catch one of them and/or try out their food next time around! read more

One of the best matcha lattes I've had in a minute (& I drink a healthy amount of matcha) They have a pistachio cream top right now that they recommended pairing with brown sugar syrup matcha latte, it was amazing. I like my matcha a little sweet but strong enough to still taste the matcha and for me this is the perfect latte! The foam top tasted like pistachio whipped cream but wasn't overpoweringly sweet. The kitchen was closed when I went so definitely looking forward to coming back to try their sandwiches! We came around 8:30AM and there was good amount of seating at this time if you want to study or get work done (they do have wifi but didn't see outlets). Parking can be limited and on the street so do plan ahead. Staff were friendly and if you do decide to eat/drink here, they provide glasses and trays that you'll put away in the back. We ordered a latte with cinnamon and a latte with cream on top (I forgot which). The latte with cinnamon had a good flavor and wasn't milked down but cost a bit more than I expected (it was over $6) although it was a good amount. I'd love to come back to try their breakfast burrito though! read more

The coolest spot in town.. and everyone knows it. Steps from The Lab and The Camp, Work in Progress is a well trafficked coffee shop in Costa Mesa. While there's a ton of seating available, it can be tough to snag a spot due to this cafe's fan-favorite status. Consider yourself extra lucky if you get a seat with an electrical outlet. I've visited this business twice now, so I've had an opportunity to explore a bit of their menu. I absolutely love their wide variety of caffeinated beverages and lunch items. This makes me excited to try something new every visit! During my most recent trip I ordered the Classic Sando with turkey. This sammie is served on focaccia bread with herbed aioli. The bread was soooo tasty and worthy of a second order. I also tried the iced Maple Brown Sugar Latte with oat milk. This bevy was highly caffeinated and the perfect start to my work day. I will say that it can be a bit distracting to work from here due to the high number of customers coming in-and-out. But you really can't be upset with a business for being so cool. read more

Was exploring the camp and was recommended to try Work in Progress for their coffee. I saw the menu and knew immediately I was not trying the coffee (sorry person who recommended it) but one of the many fun tea specials. I went with the coconut cloud drink, and I think I made the right choice, it was the perfect balance of refreshing and fun flavors as well as color! While we were waiting for our drinks this super gorgeous art print of the cafe caught my eye, so I had to ask if they were for sale. Sure enough they were and I am now a proud owner of a Work in Progress limited edition print! Go get yourself one, it is even more stunning in person! read more

Matcha einspanner w seasonal mango sage cream top - didn't taste the mango, sage flavor is super subtle, definitely recommend giving it a thorough mix before sipping. initially, the matcha leans a bit grainy and watery, but it smooths out nicely after mixing. sweetness is perfect at 50% adjustment. Spacious space with lots of tables and seatings, great for work and hanging out. Parking is free but limited. Would definitely come back to try their brunch menu. read more

Incredibly aesthetic coffee shop! I love the interior design and the layout of the seats and tables. Great place to hang out and talk to friends but I wouldn't try to do work in here unless you're okay with the busy environment. I love coffee shops that have a welcoming ambiance like this. Here's my drink rating tho: Hojicha Einspanner w/ salted cream top, 6/10 - the drink was fine! just watered down compared to other hojicha lattes i've had, but the salted cream top was yummy. i think i'd come back to try a different drink since this one was just so-so to me. i've heard great things about their food, so i'll have to come back here and update my review. read more

Their coffee isn't as tasty/strong as others, but I appreciate the unique flavor combos and AMAZING sandwiches and burritos (when the focaccia is fluffy!) I had the focaccia recently with their tuna salad melt and it was a little hard, dense, and not fluffy so that took away from my sandwich. Caesar and veggie sandwiches are tasty as well $14ish Love the breakfast burritos here, although they're a teensy bit small given the price. $16 ================ Salted cream hojicha einspanner w/ salted cream top 4/5 Not as sweet as other spots flavored einspanner that come with an additional hojicha swirl in this case, but it's not bad. Hojicha isn't as toasty or robust as other spots, but it's decent for being nearby. Cream top is decently salty, but it doesn't do TOO much to the drink. Maybe I'm looking for something with more body? Doenjang miso caramel with black sesame cream top 4/5 Unique drink and tastes more "adult", yummy with the black sesame. Financiers weren't bad as well, flavorful and not dry. Little wait for after 1:20pm on a Saturday. Food does take a bit - maybe 15-20 minutes. read more

i came here for the first time today. i think it was pretty so so - not great not terrible. i did enjoy my caesar sando but i should have read the menu more closely. i'd get it again but without chips. i also didn't love how overpowering the lemony sauce was but the bread is really good so i'd get it again. i'd also really like to try the matcha here next time because it looks good. i would say what really stood out to me was the slow service and i think generally customer service was ok - not great. read more

cozy sit-down coffee spot with yummy food and drinks. there's plenty of parking outside the building, further outside the building in the street, and in front of the camp. this place obviously has a 'sit down and stay awhile' vibe, and it isn't too loud inside. i ordered their seasonal orange blossom matcha and carrot cake latte to go, and i appreciated having the option to taking my drinks for here. i don't think alt milks had an additional surcharge, and with the price of the drinks ($7+) i would've definitely winced at the thought of paying upwards of $8 for a drink. so thank you for not upcharging for alt milks (,: my only qualm is that the prices aren't listed on the seasonal drink menu. i know that i could ask the person taking my order as i'm ordering, but i like being able to factor the price into my drink selection decision without holding up the line of people ordering. if the prices could be more clearly listed, whether on the physical menu and/or online on their instagram page, that would be much appreciated read more

Work in Progress (WIP) is definitely one of OC's coolest coffee shops and a hotspot for social gatherings, artsy creatives, and coffee/matcha lovers. This spot is located a couple blocks from The Camp and The Lab. There is a small parking lot with some spots or street parking around the whole area. They have a spacious and modern interior with seating inside and an outdoor patio as well. Keep in mind that this is a hotspot during weekends and peak hours, so there may be lines and seats may be hard to come by. Wifey and I stopped by in the morning to grab some drinks and a snack. For their menu, they have all their staples along with speciality drinks they often rotate. We opted to get the Hojicha Einspanner and the Cherry Cola Matcha Tonic for our drinks and a Tuna Melt Sando to share. Overall, we enjoyed the ambiance of the shop and its mixture of hustle and bustle with calmness. It felt very much like listening to the smoothest lo-fi with the best noise canceling headphones amidst a fast-paced urban city sprawl type backdrop. All of the staff here are very friendly and welcoming. There is definitely a reason why WIP is so popular within the community and an appreciated third space by so many! read more

I ordered the dirty pearl, which is a dirty earl grey latte with a peanut cream top. Somehow the floral and nutty flavors paired well together, it was delicious! wow what an aesthetic coffee shop!! work in progress is a shop that's been on my list for quite some time and I finally bit the bullet and made the drive to Costa Mesa to try it. The atmosphere is lively and the interior design is amazing. If you can, check out the wine and all the cute merch for sale all over the walls! You might miss it because it is directly behind seating. I was recommended the Caesar Sando, and the barista explained how he didn't like some of the components inside of it, but was surprised because it was the best sandwich he's ever had? I gave it a try, and he was so right. I've been raving about it to all my friends. I also got matcha with oatmilk (they use minor figures oat milk!) and the pistachio cold foam on top was fantastic. To me it's not a true crab cake but rather a lump of fresh crab that's breaded and fried. It's ok if you're in to that. The one dish I was curious enough to try today was their Kona crusted lamb loin. I don't usually order lamb unless it's an Indian or middle eastern restaurant. I like lamb but it's not exactly something I crave. so how they explained it was that the Kona was basically using coffee grounds as a dry rub on the meat. So I got curious and ordered it. The grounds basically add a slightly different texture and adds a slight bitterness. Sort of like char from a grill. I rarely ever write reviews, but this coffee shop just made the worst drinks me and my friend has ever tried and we've been to plenty of coffee shops. We were so exited to try this place because we heard good things about it, but we're beyond disappointed! The drinks itself are beautiful however the taste is rancid. The cream tops are the only selling point of this coffee shop. The menus are hard to read, and when I asked the cashier how to properly read the menu he was rude and passive aggressive. The Matcha tastes like celery juice, and the coffee tastes nothing like vanilla when I asked for a vanilla latte? Older man with the grey hair and mustache that works the counter is a PERVERT. My girl friend and I were crossing the crosswalk to eat here and this guy was crossing too and had his eyes locked on her butt intensely staring for a good 30 seconds. I asked him what he was staring at, he looks up at me, then continues creepily staring at her until we cross the street. We get to Work in Progress, and this man comes walking in.
