We knew we were in good hands for birthday party supply shopping when an amicable, hirsute fellow with a name tag that said, "Beer Dude," approached us and ushered us to the keg room. I was like a kid in a very cold candy store!! San Francisco has an impressive selection of wine shops, but Bevmo still holds its own. Particularly because you can order your booze online and they'll have it all in a box for you when you get to the store. This allows you to take your time, look for sales, read Wilfred Wong's reviews, decide how much booze you really need, etc, all from the comfort of your own couch. Also, I have yet to find another store with Bevmo's fabulous beer and, even more importantly, root beer selection. Plus, there's always parking. Even us city folk need some good ol' suburbia-strength convenience once in a while. This is the closest location to my house (it's a *bit* industrial-ghetto out here), but there's also branches on Van Ness, Geary, and in Colma. read more

Thieves in the parking lot, do not leave valuables! I stopped by Bevmo today and within 10 minutes my car was broken into and my laptop was stolen. What can you expect for Bayshore blvd? The fishy thing is that when the police officer came to take the report, the bevmo security guard stated that there was a mysterious "glitch" on the parking lot surveillance camera at the exact moment my car was broken into. I'm not going to necessarily say there is collusion, but seriously do not leave your valuables in your car like ever. Oh and there is a car glass repair shop next door. Super fishy. This review is for the cutest old lady in the world:)! I came here to buy some drinks for the night and was craving some bomb ass beer. I walk in and went straight for the cold beer. Was trying to make up my mind for a good 15 minutes till I was set on the Coconut Porter (10.49 for a 4-pack. Ouch!) and some Stone IPA:) Walked up to the cash register to continue my purchase and was greeted by the nicest lady (Sorry! Didn't get your name) who quickly started ringing me up. She saw my selection of beer and was all excited for me to be drunk later. Lol. She started telling me about her young days and how trashed she would get. Lol. I thought it was the cutest thing in the world. I'd party with her. I'd probably go back to this particular BevMo for that reason just to say Hi:) The store itself was pretty small compared to the ones I go to here on my side of town but they did have lots of varieties. read more

Jesus Christ this place has a lot of booze. Trust me, they really do. For me it's an IPA emporium, but it's an emporium for all other manner of wine, spirits, beverages, cigars and snacks. They have beer from around the world you just can't find anywhere else. They have lots of parking. This place just really has a lot of alcohol from Alaska to Russia and everywhere in between. Stacks and shelves and boxes of booze! You can get kegs here, and chips, and salsa, and cheese, and olives, and bottle openers, and probably a cigar cutter! And vermouth! Blessed covenant of the Lord this is one place to stock up on absolutely any and everything you could possibly need to throw one motherfucking blockbuster of a party where everyone gets really, really fucked up. With prices for the big bottles of booze matching those at Costco this is a great alternative for those who hate the long lines at the SOMA Costco. They have an awesome tequila selection and often have some real good deals on some lesser known brands. They also have their own parking lot! read more

BevMo is Disneyland for adults. The first time I went here, I went down each and every aisle even though all I needed was vodka. I had to know exactly what they had to offer for my next visit! How can you go wrong at a place with cheap booze in every size you could ever need? Mini bottles for stocking stuffers? They have them all. Gigantic jugs of hard liquor for your alcoholic buddies? Check and double check! Besides the obvious Grey Goose and Patron Silver, faves include mixers like the Soho Lychee Liqueur and Stirrings Lavender Martini Essence. Oh and if you're throwing a big party and need tons of shot glasses, they sell little plastic ones that make cleanup a breeze. read more

I don't like giving bad reviews, but I have been buying from this store for 4 years and I hold them responsible for at least 20% of my grey hairs. For my job I have to host several large drinky events a year. BevMo is also large and drinky and they often have pretty good deals so it seemed like a good match. HOWEVER- despite paying the $50 delivery charge for them to load up a van and drive 2 miles, there is no guarantee that they will show up even remotely on time. In fact, they have only shown up ONCE within their delivery window. This last time they showed up a mere 30 minutes late (past a 3 hour window) but I reckon it was the last straw for me. No longer will I be lured in by their 5-cent wine sale or their convenient parking lot. And in case you think this location is the only offender, I once tried the Geary location assuming that it was just Bayshore who didn't have their sh!t together. They delivered 20 cases of beer to my apartment -- mistaking my billing address for the delivery address. I had to rush accross town 30 minutes before the party to load up my compact car with as much as would fit. I should also mention that I had called earlier in the day just to make sure everything was set with the delivery... grrr. read more

I stopped in to get wine--a good selection and the right price--around 4 pm on a Friday afternoon. I was there for ten minutes and came out to find my car, which was parked right in front of the door, broken into. Window broken. Contents stolen. The auto burglary was quick and professional. The security guard, who had been inside chatting it up, came out and told us that it happens all the time. He didn't seem too concerned or sympathetic at all. You'd think that they would keep a closer eye on it if they know it happens all the time. You'd think that they would be interested in seeing if their cameras got anything. You'd think they would be interested in preventing this from occurring. Not interested at all. The second bottle of wine cost me a lot for than 5 cents. read more

This BevMo has a bunch of ignorant employees. This is the second time I have the similar issue with them. Tried to give them a second chance but it was a fail again. I know we are under the covid-19 situation but if it wasn't for people ordering online they wouldn't be employed. They don't answer their phones. I had placed an order that was supposed to be done by a certain time and I waited along time beyond tried to call to get an update no answer I assumed it should be done because it had passed a long time then what they had said. I went and they greet you in such a disrespectful manner no kind of curtesy. Exchanged about two words and walked away and canceled my order. On Monday, 03/30/2020, I witnessed racial bias toward a woman of color today grieving the death of her son. It was my first visit to Beverages and More (Bevmo) at 201 Bayshore Blvd in San Francisco since the health and safety changes to protect staff and customers from COVID-19/Coronavirus by having customers pre-order online or by phone for pickup only. When I arrived while in line, I met a grieving woman of color begging the clerk to buy a large bottle of Hennessy. She was stone cold sober and didn't want it for herself, but family members who had just lost a son/brother/nephew/cousin/grandson, and she wanted to do something to help her family cope, just for the moment. Like any grieving parent, she was on the razors edge of losing her mind and call for a family and friends protest at Bevmo while live streaming it. I used my phone to call the number on the glass door and tried to place the order for her and the clerk/live person told me 24hrs for pickup, while the online orders said 1 hour. I understand because the mother was emotional, but they also could have made an exception like they did for the white woman who showed up 15 minutes later. The white woman wasn't just let in, she was allowed to shop around the store in full view of all still waiting outside, including myself, once again, grieving mother/woman of color who just wanted to help her family get through the night after the death of her son. Some may ask how I knew she was sober, well I stood about 4ft from her where I did NOT smell alcohol or marijuana, her speech was clear as a bell, not slurred at all, and her eyes were not bloodshot nor pupils dilated. I've been a customer of this Bevmo since they opened in my community, but after seeing how they treated this grieving woman of color, I will not be back. I'd rather take my business and my cash to the corner liquor store. read more

Whoa! Way exceeded my expectations with this location at Bayshore! This BevMo is HUGE with its own parking lot. It's organized and super clean especially in this neighborhood. Plenty of wine, beers, alcohol-related items to choose from. The selection is SOOO HUGE that I get confused hahah! I picked up some of the tastiest wine/sake from this location, and I can spend hours here browsing what we should be drinking tonight with my dinner! read more

This BevMo is pretty lame. The employees seem to walk around like mindless zombies who refuse to help you unless you hunt them down and bash them with clubs and drag them to the aisle you were just in. They also can't give you straight answers for anything. I asked if their Hitachino Japanese beer was sold by the bottle or as a six pack (the bottles were on the shelf separately, but the price didn't say per bottle). The employee told me they sell everything in six packs or more. When I took the six bottles to the counter, they charged me $30+ for the beer instead of $5 as the sticker said. Epic fail. I come here often, and usually the staff is very friendly, except for this one time. I came in just to grab some beer for later in the evening, and I was in a hurry to be able to see my son who I haven't seen in a while and wanted to be able to spend as much time with him as possible. So when I got to the cashier it was a bad time for it, but the cashier wanted to relax and enjoy his day creating small talk with all of the customers. When he got to me he took a slow deep breathe and wanted to have a chat before he began my transaction. I immediately told him that I didn't mean to be rude, but I was really in a hurry" Right away his eyes fired up with rage, and he got so mad he said "Well if you don't mean to be rude then don't!!" He then snatched my ID out of my hand and started to breathe very angrily. I told him it's not my fault I'm in a hurry, and I said "What's wrong with you, you're the one being rude, you're the one that works here. The curly white haired man named "JYM" with all the excessive jewelry was so fumed and angry that he left me extremely angry. He mumbled more things during the rest of the time being rude. I strongly believe that if he was not in the safety of his job that this situation would've escalated to the point where one of us goes to jail. The man carries a lot of aggression and does not belong being employed in customer service at all. You have to please Jym by talking chit chat small talk so that he can give you good service or else you'll piss him off, and he'll be aggressive with you. I'd rather go to Safeway or a corner store instead of dealing with bad attitude or someone who has anger issues. read more

BevMo! - Aisles and aisles of booze... - Beer, Wine & Spirits Near Me - San Francisco, California

This place is the shit. I just found my new favorite Belgian beer here. It's a quadrupel (not quadruple) at 9.8% ABV. it's 98% rich, malty Belgian-style ale and 2% cherry Lambic. You can't taste the cherry but it adds a very nice fruity counter point to the maltiness. The label says to serve it at cellar temperature but it's great at room temperature. read more

"Beer: the cause of, and solution to, most of life's problems" --Homer Simpson And BevMo's got so much more than beer. Take a "Leaving Las Vegas"-esque trip with me down the aisle of my favorite store, would you? We'll start where, really, you ought to start, with vodka. I happen to be a Kettle One man, but they've got yer fancy-schmancy Grey Goose and Belvedere here, too. Large-format bottles, too, if you happen to go through it a little more quickly than you'd like to admit. Next, let's samba over to the rum aisle. You need at least two rums, a white and a dark, and I tend to favor Orinoco and Pyrat XO, respectively. Orinoco is fermented from 100% cane sugar, so it has a wonderfully clean and slightly sweet taste, and Pyrat XO, well, that's just heaven in a glass, is what that is. Dark rum is probably the best jumping off point to the dark brown liquors, so let's stay in the New World and grab some bourbon. Blanton's, frankly, is the best. I know most people like to say these things are a matter of taste, but those people are usually peasants. Blanton's is the only way to go. Trust me on this. A little further down the aisle, we find American whiskeys. I like the classics, so I've got a bottle of Old Granddad (for when I'm mad at myself) and a bottle of Bullitt (for when I'm not). I drink Scotch, too, but you can't buy it here, so we'll skip that part. Now, I don't want you to think I'm only about hard liquor. No no no. I mean, hard liquor stops the shakes, silences the voices, and makes the bad feelings go away, but there's SOOO much more to life than that. Thankfully, BevMo! has an excellent selection of wine. I tend to buy all my Californian wine (which is about 75% of what I drink) directly from vineyards, but BevMo! has a great selection of South American and Spanish wines. It just so happens that Robert Parker and I like some similar qualities in wine, like jammy fruits and bold taste, so I cheat when I shop for wine here: BevMo! posts a wine's score, if it scored well, and I just look for a nexus between high score (90+ points) and low price. That's how I started drinking Kaiken Ultra, a South American malbec that rates 91 points from Parker, and retails for under $20. Ditto BenMarco malbec. In fact, BevMo! has been helping me drink a lot more malbec lately. Hey, you can't drink Ridge zin 7 nights a week (although I'd love to try). One knock on BevMo!, that comes in two parts, both related to the plexiglass liquor jails they have set up in many aisles. First, the process of selecting what goes into the liquor jail seems entirely arbitrary. Bacardi rum, $15 for 750 ml? In the jail. Orinoco, $35 for 750 ml? Out on the shelf. WTF? Also, it's often difficult to flag down someone to free your selected liquor from it's translucent cage. Which is annoying. Even more annoying is that, when you finally arrange the jailbreak, and your palms are itching the grasp the bottle wherein lies your salvation....the employee whisks it up to the counter to wait for you. I'm not even allowed to walk around the store with it! Why, BevMo!, why? I just want to get to know my liquor a little before I take it home. Cradle it gently in my arms, whisper its name a few times. Pet it lovingly. Talk to it. "What's that, my dear? You want me to drink you? Here? But, people are watching! No, no, my pet: patience. A great selection of beers. I especially like to have several kinds of hefeweizen to choose from (my fave is the Erdinger -- I discovered it at the German restaurant Suppenkuche), and if you're into Belgian beers, they have tons of those, too. They also sell a bunch of flavors of those Torani syrups, cheaper than at Safeway, and in the larger size bottle. Plus, they have wine and cheese tastings, although I've never gotten my act together enough to figure out when they're happening and actually show up. For wine, I still shop at Trader Joe's, but this place rocks for beer. read more
