Every time we go, I'm kind of shocked it's not absolutely packed. This is part of the Foothills Meats family, and if you know their spots (the butcher shop, the food truck, The Grange, etc.), you already know--they don't miss. So we went in the first time pretty confident, and they absolutely delivered. The space itself is great, but the rooftop is the real standout--easily one of the best views in Black Mountain. It's such a good spot to sit, have a drink, and hang out. Speaking of drinks--the bar is excellent. The bartenders have always been great, super easy to sit at the bar and enjoy yourself. They've got a strong liquor selection and fun, well-balanced cocktails. Now the food. Everything we've had has been consistently good, but our last visit really stood out. We shared the pork katsu sandwich, the sweet potato biscuits, and the poutine. The pork katsu was done really well--crispy on the outside, tender inside, with that classic crunch from the cabbage and a slightly sweet, tangy katsu-style sauce. I also really liked that the sauce was on the side so you could control each bite. The sweet potato biscuits surprised us--in the best way. Those are easy to mess up, and these were not. Soft, flavorful, slightly sweet with that savory balance, paired with ham, sorghum butter, smoked cheddar, and red eye gravy--it's a really thoughtful combination that just works. And the poutine... so good. Crispy fries, rich mushroom gravy, and cheese curds that actually hold their texture. It's hearty without being heavy, and every bite felt balanced. For the level of quality they're putting out, the prices are very reasonable--which makes it even more surprising that it's not more crowded. It's right in downtown Black Mountain, but we actually drive all the way from Flat Rock to come here--and it's absolutely worth it every time. Overall, this place just nails it. Great drinks, really solid food, beautiful setting--and somehow still flying a bit under the radar. Definitely worth checking out.

After having visited Spain and experiencing tapas, our expectations were set high and Cúrate delivered on all levels. We ordered several plates to share, ordered a bubbly white wine and later a pitcher of Sangria and enjoyed the thoughtfulness of their progression of our meal. Every dish was thoughtful and tasty. The patatas bravas were better than some we had in Spain. The lamb skewers were the least favorite as they were slightly overcooked. I missed taking a picture of the mussels because we slopped that up so fast! Overall, I cannot wait to visit again, especially as they change their menu seasonally so new surprises would be amazing. Thank you for a wonderful evening!

The wait was only about 25 minutes, which wasn't too bad. However, we were not aware we were going to be seated at the bar and were not given the option to wait for a table instead. For this type of establishment, you'd also expect warmer and friendlier service. Again, we sat at the bar, which may not have been the best choice, but the service there was inconsistent and at times lacking. You don't pay any less sitting at the bar, so it was definitely disappointing. That said, the food itself was great. We ordered the lamb skewers and the patatas bravas, and both were absolutely delicious. My husband also ordered a coffee and the flan, and the flan was very good as well. The prices are definitely high, but the food quality was solid enough that I could understand the cost. However, part of what makes a higher price point worthwhile is receiving excellent service as part of the overall experience, and unfortunately that just wasn't the case here.

She is really good extremely good at picking out interesting wines for the flights that she changes every week. The wine menu is well rounded and you can also pick out a wine to have with your dinner from the wine shop for a small added corkage fee. I like to start off my meals here with a flight and some olives. This past week I had a delicious Spanish Vegan bean soup with an additional glass of Sangiovese. The prior week I had butternut squash with a Romesco sauce with 2 additional Sangioveses. They seem willing to accommodate my diet here. The rest of the menu would please any palate with lots of creative non Vegan dishes as well. The menu changes every week as do the wine flights. This place is definitely a local favorite and is worth checking out if you are in or close to the area. The actual wine store has some great difficult to find wines as well. All price ranges. A very in the know well rounded well priced tasteful selection rotates through here. I highly recommend both the restaurant and the wine shop!
