I am at the Grove Park Inn for a Convention and for lunch I saw the view and had to try the Sunset Terrace. What an amazing view of the layers of mountains and downtown Asheville. I ordered the wagyu burger with fries and a salad. My service so far is great with Jonathan, my server, offering food suggestions. I can smell the burgers cooking while I stare off at the amazing views. Can't wait for my food to arrive......... The salad with the herbed dressing was great and the herb dressing was great to dip the fries. The burger was the star of the meal. The burger could not have been better; the bun, onion straws and sauce made for a great burger. I recently ate at the Sunset Terrace at The Omni Grove Park Inn. We had 6 in our group. I ordered the Crab Cake Sandwich with the Side Salad. It was amazing. My husband ordered the Beef Short Rib Melt with fries. He said it was great as well. In addition to the wonderful meals, they have gorgeous views to enjoy from your table. After lunch we went inside and sat by the huge fireplaces in the Inn. A little pricey but you'll get a great meal and views to remember. read more

As part of our 30th anniversary tour, we stayed at Omni Grove Park Inn...and this was one of several restaurants they hosted. I tried to get reservations for Blueridge, but booked...so I opted for this place. I read the mixed reviews, so had low expectations... However, I was so pleasantly surprised!!! The place itself was basically an outdoor terrace restaurant, yet much bigger than anticipated...our wide-open patio-terrace table offered spectacular views! One thing to note is that since this is a wide-open outdoor restaurant with no curtains or window coverings, the weather needs to be optimal. We just happened to get lucky with an ideal 75-78 degree patio weather. Anyway, immediately, we were both so impressed with the view from our table (see pics!). In fact, we both felt that we'd love this place even if the foods or the service fell short. Surprisingly, the foods didn't disappoint (despite low expectations). As anticipated, things were pricey, but not as bad as we expected them to be. We started with their Crab Cake, which was such an innovative fusion version...even topped with Kimchi! DEE-Lish!! Then for our mains, my husband had the Sunset Spring Chicken and I had the Ricotta Gnocchi w/ Shrimp. Again, we both loved it!! Even the dessert...such a gorgeously delicious creation (forgot the fancy name!)! They even treated us to an additional free dessert, which we really enjoyed. Not only were all the foods delicious, they were beautifully presented as well. I even enjoyed their Bourbon, and my husband loved this Lager. We both loved EVERYTHING!! The only thing that fell short was the speed and attentiveness of service. It was quite slow. I could see how people might have deducted several stars from this. Still, we didn't even mind because we wanted to sit out in the gorgeous weather, and see the sunset...and just take our time. Truly, this was one of the most amazing outdoor dining scenes I've been to...and I've been to many. Spectacular!! The Sunset Terrace is where I ate two meals while at the Grove Park Inn as it was the only place open for lunch. I had dinner here on arrival night and timed it for the sunset. I was placed at a high top and would not have made a reservation for that type of seating so the host didn't give me the table I reserved. The restaurant didn't have the lights on enough so it was dark and hard to read the menu. My waitress was very friendly and got me a tea right away. I ordered the filet mignon and got the mushrooms for a side. This came out to the table minutes after ordering so I felt that they were trying to rush me out. I didn't feel rushed by my waitress but the host staff that kept wandering by. My filet was cooked as ordered and the mushroom portion was generous. The filet was good and the plate came with two extra items from the chef, one was a pearl onion and I'm not sure what the other item was but I didn't like it. I was surprised that I liked the onion. I didn't have room for dessert but the waitress brought my a chocolate piece of cake. The strange part of feeling rushed when I arrived ended in a very long wait to get my check. It was at least an hour wait as the waitress was nowhere to be found. I watched others get seated, eat and depart while waiting. Lunch the next day, I had another friendly waitress and I went with the shrimp scampi. This version of it was not very good. The shrimp was great but there was too much pasta and not enough flavor. It was more creamy than an oil base. I wish I had gone with the salad again. I did have dessert and got the Coconut Tropical Cloud. It was the best part of the meal. Sunset Terrace was recommended to me and my husband by close friends who had visited Asheville a few weeks prior to our vacation. It definitely lived up to our expectations. The view is incredible but try to reserve your table before 7, if possible, before it gets dark outside. My husband ordered the Bone-In Ribeye with a side of carrots -- both of which were huge! I enjoyed the Sunset Spring Chicken that comes with brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes. It was quite delicious, and the perfect portion size. Another dining companion had the scallops (over $50) and was shocked that it only included 3 scallops. The last person ordered the gnocchi and was happy with it. My friend had a glass of Malbec and enjoyed that very much. Water was refilled often, but our meals took a *very* long time to arrive, close to an hour! Ugh - just ugh. I made the rookie mistake of making a reservation here on recommendation of a friend without checking the yelp reviews first. By the time I got around to looking at yelp, it was too late to cancel the reservation without a fee, and we just decided to go. First of all - it is not blasted enough on the internet that there is a $30 parking fee for self parking, $40 for valet. May be worth it for those staying at the hotel, but for us to be there for less than 2.5 hours and pay such a steep fee was unexpected. Maybe we should have assumed, but still - I want people to know before they book that there is definitely a "hidden" fee for parking. We watched the sunset, which was beautiful, but as a lot of other reviews for this place have stated - only go to this place for the views, which honestly you don't need to eat at the restaurant to see the views. I would have been less offended by the parking fee if we had just gone to walk around the grounds and see the beautiful mountains. The food was subpar, the service was laughably bad, and by the time we were seated (sat down at 7:45 for our 8:15 reservation - we checked in early) it was so dark in the restaurant that half the tables had people using their flashlights just to be able to see what they were eating. I am in my mid-20s with 20/20 vision and couldn't see for the life of me. We ordered a burrata salad, the sunset chicken, the truffle fries, and the roasted carrots. The burrata was decent - honestly not a bad size burrata for the price. A waiter asked us if we wanted fresh cracked black pepper - to which we both responded yes. The waiter promptly spun around and disappeared for several minutes before slamming down the pepper grinder on the table on his way to another table. My partner said "wow, even olive garden has better service than this!" to which I couldn't agree more. The chicken was also decent but not anything to write home about. It came with mashed potatoes and fried brussels sprouts - both of which were mediocre. The truffle fries were exactly as you would expect. It is pretty hard to screw up truffle fries, so they are in the clear for this one. The roasted carrots were under-seasoned and over-salted which sounds like an oxymoron but is true. They were - like the rest of the meal - average at best. We ordered on the cheaper side because so many yelp reviews mentioned how incredibly overpriced this place is. I am so glad we didn't order a steak because based on the quality of food, I would have been so peeved to have ordered a $100+ dollar piece of meat to have it come out as average as all the other food we ate was. Also - not relevant to our order, but a noteworthy comment about the service - our waiter told us the game meat of the day was elk, but we overheard another waiter tell a nearby table that the game meat of the day was lamb. We will absolutely not be back, and do not recommend. Only 2 stars because of the views. read more

We were greeted as soon as we walked up the hostess area and were given a table with the most amazing view. I ordered the chicken and rice lunch entree and it was delicious. After a full day at the Biltmore, our family of five ended the evening at Sunset Terrace. The atmosphere is hard to beat; the dining area looks out over a stunning landscape of mountains and trees that really captures the beauty of Asheville. The service was truly the standout of our visit. Our server was fantastic--extremely attentive and professional, checking in on us frequently to ensure the timing of the meal was perfect. As for the meal, the food was decent and well-prepared, though it was relatively standard and nothing particularly special. For 2 appetizers, 5 entrées, and 2 glasses of wine, our total was ~$800. While the food was enjoyable and well-prepared, the price point is definitely more reflective of the elite location than the meal itself. It was a lovely evening with a breath taking view, though the price and the mediocre food makes it more of a "one-time" special occasion spot for us. read more

She gave my wife and I the best service we've ever experienced. She knew my steak was overcooked the first round and that it was undercooked the second round. She was very attentive and extremely personable. I would dine here again just because I know she would offer my wife and I a very pleasant experience. The quality of the steak is good (prime), but they don't do anything worth $100 for a $30 cut of meat. No rosemary/thyme or any sense of basting that was done. Seems like a cut and dry salted steak with a decent sear. If you're into that, go ahead and spend $100. My wife absolutely loved her Chilean Sea Bass. It's is fluffy from sous vide and has a nice crunch with a good sear. It did not taste as fresh as I prefer (I'm from Florida coast/New England upbringing) I'm used to caught same day - never frozen. But, she said it was the best texture combination she's ever had. She's not easy to please, so this was a big deal. Get it with the chimichurri. The Mac and cheese was very good. The asparagus was good. The French onion soup was not very good at all. I didn't know it's something that could be messed up, but they found a way to make it bland. The coconut cloud dessert was very good!! The bread is also awful. It reminded me of the cheap rolls you buy frozen at a grocery store. After seeing the magnificent view, I chose the Sunset Terrace to host my 25th birthday dinner. Upon arrival, I was immediately impressed by the breathtaking scenery and stunning architecture. Unfortunately, the service completely destroyed what should have been a special evening. Our server, Sana, provided some of the worst service I have ever experienced at a restaurant of this caliber. From the moment we were seated, she was inattentive, absent, and seemingly unconcerned with our table. Our food took over an hour and a half to arrive, while tables seated after us were continuously served before we were. Throughout this entire time, Sana was nowhere to be found, making it impossible to ask for updates or even basic assistance. When the food finally arrived nearly two hours later, the kitchen absolutely delivered -- the meal itself was delicious. However, any positive impression was immediately ruined yet again by Sana's behavior. Before several people at the table had even finished eating, she began removing plates and rushing us out without once offering boxes for untouched food. It felt incredibly disrespectful and dismissive, especially considering this was supposed to be a birthday celebration. At no point were we checked on properly, asked how the meal was, offered dessert, or treated with even the bare minimum level of hospitality you would expect from an establishment charging these prices. Sana's lack of attentiveness, professionalism, and basic customer care turned what should have been a memorable evening into a frustrating and disappointing experience. It is genuinely a shame that such a beautiful restaurant with incredible views and talented kitchen staff is overshadowed by service this careless and incompetent. For the price, this was easily one of the worst dining experiences I have had. I feel that it should not take 1 hour from the time we ordered to get our main courses. It took the hors d'oeuvres about 20 minutes and then another 40 minutes for the main courses. However, it was quite the opposite. Sometimes too much flavor. Like the honey mustard butter for the rolls. The rolls were already sweet, so the butter with the honey mustard combo was just not my preference. However, the salmon accompanied by bok choy, carrots and radishes was perfect! The broth that it cake with just took that flavor up several notches. Drench ever bite in that broth. That's where the salt is that you need. Service was the usual hotel service that's perfectly staffed. Several people tending to your needs. Ambiance was nice especially if going around sunset. Then it gets very dark and the little battery operated candle on the table is just for show, not light. I had an incredible time at the Sunset Terrace restaurant at the historic Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC. After ordering a bottle of wine for the table and 5 cocktails, we told our server we were going to be doing appetizers as a group. She then went to the service station (which was 5 feet away) and began arguing with the original server who had our table and accused him of "taking away her tip" by asking to have her take our table over. They got into a pretty obvious heated discussion with her pointing over her shoulder at us. (For consideration and hope for future growth I will not mention either name in this review). We never informed the first waiter that we were doing apps and cocktails, so the apparent fight over our table was disheartening to say the least. I recognize that this restaurant sells entrees for over $100 each- and our waitress probably expected a $500 tip from our table, but it was really discouraging to be so unwelcome on the terrace. Since we had a large group we picked the earliest dining time, and wanted to make the day special for the bride. Instead, we felt like an inconvenience and an unwelcome presence. On top of this, we ordered a Riesling from Germany and originally our server came to the table with a bottle from Washington State. When we pointed out (before it was opened) that it was the wrong bottle- the waitress rolled her eyes. The food however was really good. The burrata salad may be one of the best burrata experiences I have had, and the shrimp cocktail was fresh and beautifully presented. My birthday was not mentioned once but we did overhear him talking to the table next to us about their anniversary and seeming very excited. However we did see him giving great service to every other table around us which was odd. We go back to the host stand as it is now our reserved time, and are told that they are running behind and we may have to wait longer. Mind you, there are glass doors to the seating area, and there are multiple open two-tops within a mostly empty dining area. I'm wondering how reservations are prioritized here, and whether being a guest at the inn puts you in a prioritized spot. Anyway, after scouring over their seating chart, they decide where to put us. The host huffs and seems annoyed as he walks us past multiple empty tables and squeeze us into a high top table in the corner inches from the server station. Here our server was awesome. We had a couple more drinks, including a not-so-good mule (we didn't have luck with their specialty cocktails). We ordered the pork belly appetizer which was phenomenal. We then waited what felt like an extremely long time for a medium salmon and a rare NY strip. The steak was ok, but pretty bland, and definitely more of a medium. The salmon was over-salted and cooked well. We also go three sides: creamy greens, mac and cheese and dauphinoise potatoes. None were extraordinary, but the potatoes were the best of the three. We declined dessert. Perhaps my expectations were too high going in, but I did not feel the experience matched the price. Everyone was over heating as the sun set on the side and there was not shade, no fan and no protection from it. They really need a shade they can lower for when the sun hits the tables directly. This was late July so the sun was hot. We asked the restaurant for a fan and they had none. One person in our party had the shrimp scampi and it was wildly salty to the point it was inedible. We had a reservation for 8 but showed up a few minutes early to get a drink at the bar and watch the sun set. We got seated right at 8 on the terrace which does not have lighting and once the sunset you're left in the dark - literally! The food was delicious but nothing particularly stood out as phenomenal, except the cocktails which I am still thinking about! I would say this is definitely a spot to check out just to say you did but I don't think ill go back for a while. Is there a higher star than 5??? Booked at the hotel 2 months ago. Should've made reservations for dining then but didn't- fast forward to 2 weeks out and voila' no available dining times during our stay. We arrived checked in and promptly went to the concierge who found at table for us. This Is taking care of your customer IMHO. We got seated on the terrace with the most spectacular view and perfect October weather. The waitress was extremely helpful and kind and truly enjoyed her job; very attentive to our questions and joked with us too. We ordered 2 glasses of Elk Cove Pinot noir and began our eating ritual (pictured items). This was such an enjoyable meal from start to finish. We will be back... read more
