Our recent visit to Coastal Skillet was not as enjoyable as previous visits. We like going out for breakfast occasionally (when we both are off) and Coastal Skillet is located very close. We arrived on a Wed morning to an empty restaurant, except for 2 other customers. Feedback overall is the food was not hot, nor cooked properly. The cinnamon roll was served in a cast iron pan, which was not hot at all. It was either kept warm in oven and served or warmed up in a microwave then placed in the pan. It tasted stale and was more a cake like texture. We both had the same bacon & tomato omelet with home fries. My husbands omelet was not completely cooked through and had runny egg pour out once he cut into it. The home fries were overcooked, some were hard, chewy and really flavorless. I suspect they were recooked. We did not bother mentioning any of this to the hostess/server as she was oblivous to giving good service. Though she did refill our coffee. After 5-6 visits here since they opened, Coastal Skillet is not a place we will return to. Good luck. read more

Grabbed a quick brunch after visiting a nearby yoga studio. They had several doors and we walked in a back one. No one acknowledged us, finally had to ask someone if we seat ourselves or how that works . A waitress finally told us where the hostess stand was. A weird way to start the visit. The menu is designed to please a variety of dining preferences with prices to match. I had the Omelette of the Day ($10.00) (with an upcharge of $3.00 for egg whites), accompanied by a generous portion of house breakfast potatoes. Loaded with bacon, a yellow cheese and diced tomatoes, topped with shredded mozzarella, it was delicious, though small. (The photo is deceiving.) Toast or a muffin would have made a nice addition. The potatoes were the right temperature and tasty. My friend had the Prime Rib Melt ($17.00) which looked yummy. Served as a sandwich, the right- sized slices of sourdough were filled with tender prime rib, caramelized onions, pepper Jack cheese, aioli and bacon. Did you know a Hooters opened up in Point Hope were Coastal Skillet used to be? That's right, a "family friendly" breakfast/lunch place now features scantily-clad female bar tenders. We took our family there for breakfast this weekend and were greeted and seated promptly. However, the bar tender could not be ignored. She was dressed in a tiny tank-top, no bra evident, and alarmingly short denim shorts. Neither article of clothing left much to the imagination. I'm far from being a prude, but the atmosphere of almost bare-chested women slinging drinks is not exactly the family place they purport to be. Men at the bar and babies were both drooling. There are plenty of party-bars around which offer a more bawdy vibe. I was shocked to see a similar atmosphere at my local breakfast spot. read more

This restaurant was clean, inviting, and the food was delicious. They have a full bar and had some good local beers on tap. The restaurant wasn't super busy, which was surprising. The staff was very attentive and helpful. I got the shrimp and grits and my husband got a skillet. His portion size was on the smaller side but I think it was the perfect amount of food. I was visiting my sister from out of state and we decided to try costal skillet. The restaurant has a great vibe. Big windows everywhere and was very bright inside. There is also seats outside that is part of the bar which I thought was very nice. They had a solider table which I thought was extremely cool and thoughtful. Our server was great and attentive. I ordered the vegetable panini and added grilled chicken. The sandwich was delicious. It was toasted perfectly and crunchy every bite. My sister got the Buffalo chicken sandwich which she enjoyed. She loved the Buffalo sauce it was the perfect amount of spice. My mom got the costal skillet - only complaint she had was her poached egg was over cooked and it wasn't runny other than that 10/10. We decided to give this restaurant another chance after our first visit wasn't that great. Unfortunately this time around wasn't any better. When we walked in, both servers were sitting at the table eating watermelon and one yelling at us that someone would be right with us. Unfortunately our server was just extremely unfriendly. We weren't greeted, she didn't introduce herself to us. The food did not impress at all. The grits were very watery, the tomatoes in the panini weren't ripe, and the country potatoes seemed to have been drenched in hot sauce. No hot sauce mentioned on the menu. Awesome place for a late lunch with family. Beautiful setting in this "open concept" design restaurant. High ceilings, open air setting this was our first visit here. The owner Tracy came to our table and gave us some great recommendations. The oversize Mimosa cocktail was the biggest I ever had. Others had bloody Mary's espresso martini and some really great house special cocktails. The service was fast, the food awesome and the place is as clean as it can get. They're accommodating of my dietary restrictions even when busy and make a mean mimosa. The food is good and the service is always incredibly friendly. I was reading some of the other reviews and was shocked to see a negative one about the coffee; we love the coffee and it's actually one of the reasons we really enjoy going for breakfast/brunch. I agree with the other reviewer that a coffee can make or break a brunch meal, but in my opinion, their coffee helps make it. Pairs well with the skillet cinnamon roll! Like in all things there were positives and negatives to our visit. We ordered the doughnuts to start and the doughnut flavor was really good but they did seem like they weren't freshly made/a little dry inside. For our meals my husband had the breakfast burrito. The avocado he was expecting chunks but it was more of a spread. He said overall the burrito was good. He also got the home made hot sauce to go with it and said it was really good. We had his fries remade because they came out super crispy/hard. When the fresh fries came out they were also not amazing, likely because of how thin they are cut. I ordered the costal skillet with chicken. The potatoes were good, onions and peppers were caramelized and the poached egg was perfect. The arugula didn't add anything but a pop of color. I would not recommend the chicken. There was some weird spice on the chicken or in the batter that reminds me of nutmeg and made the chicken taste sweet. I ordered a pancake on the side because it looked good on yelp and it was FANTASTIC. It had fantastic flavor, was soft and fluffy and moist with crispy edges. Next time we come I will likely get the pancake stack for my meal. read more

You could see that they have put a lot of effort into creating that ambience. Second, is the food. For such a newly opened restaurant, the food is good that my family eat it all. We can be picky especially my kid. We ordered their doughnuts, fries, mac & cheese and skillets. The portion is right. Here's the less 2 stars, the service. From waiting in line to be seated which I feel needs a lot of improvement like maybe taking people's number or putting them on a waitlist or something. To having our order taken & actually them serving our food, takes a long while. Hopefully this gets better. Service can set the pace for a restaurant's success as much as the taste of the food. People were getting up and asking to order. Our food finally comes out one at a time as well. Had the grilled chicken with mozzarella and pesto on a French baguette. Terrible. My wife had breakfast burrito. Terrible. My meal said grilled chicken but was fried. Mozzarella was stringy from a a Kraft grocery store cheese. Bread was rubber. My wife's burrito all potatoes hardly any egg or anything else. If you want to succeed in the food business try tasting your own food first. But my hat off to the waitress. We waited till yesterday to try this new place within walking distance of our house. We were excited to go. We had to wait about 20 minutes for a table, not bad. We were seated and about 10 minutes later the server comes over with one glass of water and greets me. I guess my husband was invisible. She said she'd return with another glass of water. We asked twice and finally got one. We ordered a flight of mimosas and after 20 minutes flagged her down and she retrieved them from the bar where it tasted like they had been sitting the whole time. She took my order and started to walk away and I said and he'll have the chicken n waffles. I ordered quiche and Avocado toast. My quiche and my husband's food were delivered. My quiche was inedible. I had a hard time getting a knife through the cheese crust on the top. The egg was hard! It tasted like it had been microwaved for 10 minutes! I sent it back. Luckily the avocado toast was good. My husband said the waffle was not crisp and seemed like it had been sitting. I know everyone is short-staffed these days but this was ridiculous. That will be our one and only visit.
