I am officially obsessed with this restaurant! My mom is visiting from out of town, and since we live less than five minutes away, I finally decided it was time to try La Chev. I think they've created a monster because I'm already addicted. In fact, I'll be back this weekend when my next guests come to visit! We enjoyed drinks, split a salad (pictured is the half portion since we shared it), and shared the salmon. Everything was absolutely delicious. The outdoor patio is spacious, relaxing, and beautiful.....such a great atmosphere. We sat at the bar and had the pleasure of meeting Steve. He was amazing! He was so charismatic, funny, and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. They are lucky to have him. I've already told my family I want La Chev gift cards for Christmas. I almost didn't want to leave a review because I selfishly wanted to keep this place to myself, but they deserve all the recognition. An intimate restaurant inside what appeared to be someone's home in the past, with a wine bar and indoor/outdoor seating. Staff were so friendly and welcoming. Also very accommodating. Chef's Kiss! What an absolutely wonderful experience at La Chev 208 in Summerville! This quaint little French restaurant is truly a hidden gem. From the atmosphere to the service to the FOOD--everything was fantastic! We started with shrimp cocktail and French bread, along with a glass of Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio. For our entrées, we had the filet mignon and beef bourguignon, and WOW! Every bite was delicious and beautifully prepared. Our waitress, Reina, was so sweet and attentive, and the owner personally stopped by our table several times to make sure we had everything we needed and that our meals were prepared perfectly. That kind of personal attention really made the evening feel special. Our server Amanda was very nice and made my birthday special! She was really sweet and explained the menu very well and recommended great food that we liked. We were seated upstairs and it was an intimate vibe. Perfect for our group of 5. We ordered a bunch of small plates that were perfect for sharing. My favorite was the Coquille which had the scallops and bacon. It had a strong garlic taste which I liked. The meatballs were delicious and had lamb on it. Everything was amazing food wise, except the French bread pizza. It was really basic and a waste of money. The shrimp and grits were excellent, it would be hard for me to order anything else because I'll be craving them. I always love coming here! I had a little dinner with my girls for my birthday and it was just the best experience. There were seven of us so we were sat at a table upstairs in a private room. It was cozy and we were able to shut the sliding door to give a little more privacy as well. We went to La Chev 208 on 6/19 for my parents 66th wedding anniversary. My dad passed in Jan so we took our mom here just to have a nice dinner and reminisce. Everything was amazing! I forgot to take pictures but the ambience, wait staff & food were top notch! We had the pommes frites which I would come back just for those. I hated sharing them...lol. We also had an order of duck dumplings, they were good but we all agreed they weren't as good as the frites. Two of us had the filet and they were cooked perfectly and the potatoes were delicious. My sister had the scallops and she said overall they were very good, she had one that she said was a tad overcooked. My niece had the shrimp and grits and I tried it and it was also really, really good. I had the lamb rotini bc they were out of the short ribs. I'm glad I got it! Really very tasty and I don't usually eat lamb. We had crème brûlée and a chocolate dessert (I can't remember what it was bc my daughter ordered that and I didn't taste it. The moment you walk up, you can feel the charm--they've transformed a historic house into a warm, inviting restaurant that's perfect for a cozy dinner or a celebratory night out. From the start, our server Anna was wonderful. She was genuinely sweet, walked us through the menu, and pointed out some great recommendations. Her guidance set the tone for the evening almost as much as the cocktails did--and those were fantastic. Our drinks kicked things off beautifully and set the mood for what turned into a truly memorable meal. We shared several small plates to begin: the Pomme Frites, Coquille St. Jacque, and French Onion Meatballs. Every single dish was delicious. With four of us at the table, we asked how many meatballs we'd get--normally three. In true classy fashion, they surprised us by bringing four so everyone had one. And wow... they were outstanding. The Coquille St. Jacque was rich, indulgent, and loaded with scallops. And the Pomme Frites? If you know, you know--they were perfect. For entrées, we tried the Bouillabaisse, Salmon, Crab Cake, and the Bone-In Pork Chop. The Bouillabaisse was bursting with seafood and seasoned beautifully. The Salmon was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. Anna had suggested the Crab Cake, and she did not steer us wrong--another hit. The Pork Chop was one of the standouts of the night: perfectly cooked, served over mashed sweet potatoes with collard greens that hit every note just right. We were sure dessert was impossible after all that... but since we were celebrating a birthday, the kitchen surprised us with an Apple Crisp. And holy cow--it was phenomenal. I've lived in Summerville for almost two years and am late to finding out about La Chev 208 but so glad that I did! I went on a Sunday night with a reservation for inside. The atmosphere is warm and cozy inside & I liked that you can see the kitchen from the downstairs dining room. I started the meal with a French kiss martini and it was a bit too strong for my liking, but otherwise smooth. We ordered the French onion meatballs that packed so much flavor! My hubby got the lobster bisque and loved it. For dinner my hubby got the braised short ribs and I go the duck cassoulet. I absolutely loved the risotto that came with the braised short ribs. The duck cassoulet was not too rich or gamey and had great flavor! I ended our dinner with an espresso martini after our waitress Rebekah said she makes a really good one. She didn't lie! I think this was the best espresso martini I've had so far in Charleston, and I've tried many! It also came with golden glitter beans that made me so happy! I will definitely be back! read more

It's described as a French restaurant, and the atmosphere definitely reflects that--beautiful, intimate, and on the smaller side downstairs. They do have an upstairs as well, though we didn't get to see it. We had a reservation and were seated right away. Service was excellent. Our waitress was attentive, friendly, and made the evening feel relaxed. We started with a glass of wine and a few appetizers to share. The Lobster Bisque was the one letdown of the night--it tasted overwhelmingly like corn, and everyone in our group agreed. But the Duck Dumplings, French Onion Meatballs, and Provençal Mussels were all delicious. The menu felt unique, which made it fun to order different small plates and try everything together. Since we weren't too hungry, we split one entrée: the Coquille St. Jacque (Scallops). The scallops were cooked perfectly, and although the dish was very rich, it was still enjoyable. For dessert, the Crème Brûlée was fantastic--and they offer a free dessert on your birthday, which is a nice touch. Price-wise, it wasn't bad at all. For three people and all that food, the total was around $200 before tip, which felt reasonable considering the quality and amount we ordered. This food is amazing and that's a very small part of the experience we had. The muscles were served with a broth luscious enough to be its own soup. The prosciutto and buratta sandwich had complex notes of brightness and savory flavors that developed with each bite. We've been here four times by now before writing this review and overall not really recommended considering the top notch restaurants popping up in the downtown Summerville area. While I will say the shrimp and grits are top notch, everything else falls really short. The duck dumplings, waffles (for chicken and waffles), and French bread pizzas were subpar. Almost seems not made in house, either frozen or sourced from a non-local vendor (spoken mass produced and price is not proportional to quality). They did, however, do a really nice job with the renovation and the wine selection is nice. Overall for French I would skip this place and go to Kersey house (duck there is phenomenal). However, I wish them luck in their future endeavor and hope they make some changes in the kitchen staff to help this place propel to the top. read more

This is a very cute restaurant, located in an old home just blocks and walking distance from main downtown Summerville. Whom ever restored the outside of this place did a masterful job. The downstairs is small, but I think there is dinning upstairs as well as outside. Overall the service from start to finish was very good. The overall meal was OK with a couple of really good items and a few items that could have been better. We started and split Duck Dumplings with a Cabernet sweet and sour sauce. I liked this dish much better than the wife did The Provencal PEI Mussels Saffron, and cherry tomatoes was cooked nicely, but lacked a bit of punch. The Lobster Bisque clearly had lobster flavor, but for the dish to really be special it needed actual chunks of lobster meat to elevate it. I am not sure if the Rack of Lamb was smoked, and could be it did not have a nice char that I prefer to have. The lamb was served over a tasty rouille sauce. Although a bit on the heavy side, I thought the Cauliflower gratin was excellent. The wife had the Fish & Frites. The fish was Crispy flounder, which was cooked perfectly, and served over the same rouille sauce as the lamb. We both really loved the rosemary fries. Meatballs came in a serving of 3. They were some of the best I've had. Salad with goat cheese and strawberries was incredible. My friend ordered the Caesar and that was also wonderful. We went for brunch today and I was so disappointed. We have eaten many times at La Chev when it was a nice little French restaurant on the other side of town and have had dinner a few times since they changed location. The food was always great, and the people so nice, especially at the old location. Today's experience has me thinking we will never be back again. We were greeted by the hostess who wanted to seat us next to the very noisy kitchen when several other tables were available. She graciously seated us somewhere else. The table was sticky and not wiped down well. We sat and waited and waited before our server came over. This is when I started to wonder if we made a mistake coming here. Our server finally appeared and we ordered coffee and our starters. She came back and said they were out of the cinnamon buns and apologized. We opted not to get anything else, but we had also ordered the biscuits with pork belly. She came with the coffee which was lukewarm. When we told her, she gave us the option of espresso or waiting for a new pot of coffee to be brewed. We opted for espresso which was ok and at least warm. The starter came and I had no silverware and had to ask for some. It was just ok. One small piece of pork belly lost in a huge biscuit with a lot of gravy. We ordered our meal and again, the item I ordered (duck hash) was out, so I ordered the French toast. The food came and it was underwhelming. The French toast had no flavor and was topped with some very mushy strawberries soaked supposedly in grand marnier. My husband had chicken and waffles which again, was nothing special. No flavor. We finished our meal and waited again for a long time with our server nowhere in sight. We just wanted the bill. When we finally did get the bill, she had not taken off the cinnamon rolls that I never had since they were out. She went back to take it off and redo the bill, so we waited some more. They weren't even very busy when we were there. We always loved the food and service here for dinner. Maybe brunch just isn't their thing, and I think it's new for them, but nothing clicked today. The deviled eggs are also great over a "nest" of shoestring potatoes and the salmon roe is not overly fishy. Small, but very attractive location. Very attentive and helpful staff. We were in a group of 8, so those are often lacking for such a large group of customers. Picked a Gamay, but honestly it was not terrific. Pour was fair and cost reasonable. But average. I ordered the Coquilles Saint-Jacques, which was quite nice with lots of tasty scallops and a good sauce. My wife had the Chevalier salad which was quite tasty as well but a bit pricey for the quantity. My entree was the Bouillabaisse. Goodly number of mussels that were well prepared. But the main portion was not amongst the best I've had. The shrimp were a bit overcooked and thus rubbery. The salmon? (not sure it was salmon) was wildly overcooked. The broth was thick, which is OK, but not my favorite preparation. I found no evidence of saffron, which is usually a strong component of the broth (I've had this where you could see the strands - an amazing preparation at a restaurant in Virginia Beach I'll have to dig up the name of). My wife had the duck, which was weirdly fatty, though tasty. But the vegetables underneath were way too salty. My wife prefers a lot of salt, so for her to think it was salty means it was over the top salty. Not quite sure what the vegetables were, as the menu description didn't quite match what we saw on the plate. So, in summary, not bad, but pretty far from other French restaurants we've been to.
