What I really recommend is that they have a brochure that highlights the restaurants in the area. They had sections on local eats, BBQ, date night, etc. and it really was our go-to for the entire weekend. All the recommendations and reviews were spot on, and it made our trip so enjoyable! It's located right in the heart of the city too, so you are right by so many things to see and places to eat!

To…read moremake it more fun, the last mile is a one lane, steep, curvy road with blind turns and no shoulders. Thankfully, we did not encounter any oncoming vehicles. I can see why they are sticklers about arriving and departing times! Check-in was quick, and the lady told us that someone would help us park. And that is a very good thing. The main area is an oval, and it's a tight, one way road. It would have been challenging to back into our site without help. The sites are narrow and very unlevel. We had to run to Walmart for more blocks. BTW the campground brochure says Walmart is 8 miles away. It's 12 and takes a good half hour or more depending on if you have to wait at a train crossing. Ask me how I know. When we returned to the campground, the staff was handing out concrete blocks to help people get level. They really need to warn prospective customers about this. The sites are close together, and there is no privacy. There is no cell coverage, and the WiFi is spotty. There are two toilets and two showers in the bathrooms, and they are clean. They also have a nice laundry room with large machines. Be prepared for ticks - we all picked up one or two just moving around the campsites. The river is beautiful surrounded by tall rocks. They rent boating equipment and have a few Adirondack chairs to sit by the river.

The menu feels a little all over the place, a lot of the items sound really good when you read them, but the actual food never quite lives up to expectations. We've also run into multiple situations where things listed on the menu weren't actually available, which gets frustrating when you come in expecting to order something specific. The space itself has potential and works well as a casual spot to hang out or grab drinks, especially if you live nearby or are golfing. But if you're going mainly for the food, it just hasn't been very memorable in our experience. Hoping they eventually simplify the menu and focus more on consistency because the location and atmosphere could make it a really great local spot.

Nice park-like grounds that felt safe to walk around and people seemed to be out enjoying them as if they were at the neighborhood park. We were a little surprised at just how many people were walking around, playing on the grass with their kids, and just enjoying the place. Often rest stops are a rush to get in, out, and away from them quickly. Many are poorly kept, smell bad, are run down, or are covered in trash and graffiti. Often the picnic areas seem to go unused and are falling apart. That was not the case here and people were appreciating the opportunity to stop and unwind from the stresses of the road.

We recently returned to the Kentucky Horse Park Campground after being away for several years…read more We've been camping here for decades, and it has always been one of our favorite destinations. We did make one trip shortly after COVID, and now, in July 2026, we're back again. While it remains a very nice campground, it seems that some areas of the grounds could benefit from a bit more attention to match the high standard we've appreciated in the past. The lawn maintenance, for example, could use some additional care. Grass and weeds are growing around trees, electrical pedestals, and water hookups that would benefit from more regular trimming. The playground area also has grass and weeds coming through spaces that are typically mulched, and the surrounding landscape timbers appear seriously ready for some upkeep. The children's pool was closed during our visit, and it would be helpful for guests to have some indication of when it might reopen. In addition, the front office staff seemed a bit reserved during our interactions. We understand that everyone has busy or challenging days, but a warm greeting and friendly demeanor can make a big difference in helping guests feel welcome. One long-standing issue is the presence of mud ruts at many campsite entrances. The paved aprons are relatively short, and because horse trailers have axles positioned farther to the rear than most RVs, they require a wider turning radius when backing into sites. Over time, this has led to deeper mud ruts in some areas. Adding and compacting additional gravel or a suitable base material could be a helpful way to improve these entrances. Please take these comments in the spirit intended. We continue to enjoy staying here and look forward to returning in the future. We simply hope to see this wonderful campground receive the extra care that has made it stand out for so many years. The Kentucky Horse Park itself remains beautiful and well worth visiting--the campground would benefit from a little added attention to bring it fully back to the level we've always appreciated.

Able to get dinner and then it got cooler throughout our ride because the sun was going down. Once we finished we were able to walk to other bars and keep the party going.
