It was a simple fix as they were able to quickly reignite the pilot light and the serviceman explained and showed me how to reignite it myself should this happen again. Literally, after the service man left, an hour later, the pilot light went out again. I called McKee plumbing back and asked if the service man could return. I decided to go ahead and replace the water heater and the serviceman was kind enough to apply my initial service call fee towards the cost of the replacement which they didn't have to do. Carlos visited first to assess the job and explained that installing the valve would normally require cutting drywall or mounting the unit outside the box--both unattractive options. When he returned for the installation, he told us he had spent the night brainstorming alternatives. He found a solution: by carefully cutting and bending the pipe, he fit the shutoff valve inside the tight space without altering the box. He made only a small, discreet drywall opening to route the low-voltage wire. The result was smart, clean, and perfectly functional. During the same visit, he also installed an under-sink water purifier, inspected a tub faucet and confirmed it didn't need replacement, and repaired a faulty hose bib--all at very reasonable rates.
