Yes, the "administrative fee" is a surprise. When I asked the waitress, she was coy about it. It leaves you zero options as it arrives when the final bill does. They have also cut back on their portion sizes. The quality is consistent as before, thus marginal. So basically, they are higher priced, smaller portions with and mysterous and unexplained, "administrative fee" . TBH if you havent tried Salt Marsh Winery in Scituate. Do yourself the flavor and the favor and drive down to Scituate. You will get your a better meal without the unexplained add on costs. Service and food is excellent. read more

We've always had a good dinner here and for some reason last Friday night it was an unusual mess. Service was very poor, food wasn't delivered from kitchen for one to two hours for most tables and everyone in restaurant seemed to be complaining. Not sure what happened, but it was obviously a kitchen issue. Unfortunately, the waitstaff and manager offered no explanation as to why all this was happening and then at the end, instead of comped food, they added an "administrative fee" to the bill with no reason for it and no explanation for it as well. I don't write bad reviews often, but feel as though the owner should be aware of this incident since it is a wonderful location and food is generally good, but the service and overall kitchen management is a real issue that is affecting this establishment's reputation. read more

I don't usually dine out on Saturday night very much being in the business myself I'd rather go on any other evening. that being said we were on the south shore of Boston and the menu looked intriguing. Friendly greeting as we were seated,then the meal. We decided to go with a bunch of small plates since they sounded so inviting. Started with Duxbury oysters cold and fresh..check. Secondly, steamed mussels..overcooked,under seasoned. On to grilled shrimp with spicy grits,tasty enough but was hoping for a bigger shrimps. Should have stopped there. The chefs board wasn't worth the thirty dollars we were charged for by any stretch..a few lame greens with a few slices of pedestrian cheese with two pieces of Italian deli meat from the store I'm thinking. Maybe chalk it up to a busy Saturday night but hardly impressed for the price point! read more

This spot is great in cohasset. I was with a large group and we ordered pizza and salad to go. The 3 hour pizza and truffle pizza was so so good!!!! And it also came with bread and olive oil/balsamic. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is they have forgot one item from our order twice the last 2 time we went there. Disappointing dinner. Had the house "special" salad with beets, walnuts and blue cheese. Nuts were raw, very little blue cheese- overall, blab. Grilled Hanger Steak was cooked nicely but the sauce poured over the meat was way too much and overtook the dish. Service was poor. Our waiter took our dinner order, food was served by another member and no one ever came back to see if we were satisfied or wanted anything else- including the bill which we waited for and had to ask the hostess for assistance. So- where do I begin? Our reservations were at 5:45. We arrived at 5:37 (thank you Waze) we were sat inside in a back room though we wanted to sit outside. Whatever- I was with my family and was happy to be out before a show. We were sat promptly but then it took 20 min to order water - not get water to ORDER it. Ok- "it's busy" we were told. Then we order drinks and our food all at once bc we have concert. 40Min to get our drinks and some bread (not enough for the whole table but beggars can't be finicky. This was one of the best meals I've had in a long time. The two-way Rosé cocktail was incredible. I got the rack of lamb, 3 people with me got the sword fish (all specials), and another person got a steak. We also got salads. SPECTACULAR! The deserts were also marvelous. I had a really wonderful experience at Bia Bistro for my second trip there ever. I was extremely impressed with the professionalism of the wait staff and the timeliness of the food. They know what they're doing. The food came out super efficiently but was very well prepared. I loved the salad - summer salad with watermelon, fresh greens and feta cheese. It was very light and well flavored. Also I had the classic duck fat chicken- it was savory and succulent and juicy and floating in its own moat a gravy which I found to be a very generous touch. What I especially loved was - when I asked for pepper and then told the bar tender I was a pepper girl he left the pepper grinder in my table. Instead of hovering over me to grind my pepper. It's the little things, people. I may be partial to this place since this was the first restaurant I ate at on the day I got engaged but they really know what they're doing. Sat outside on a lovely late fall evening - atmosphere was great! Inside was busy and later on the bar filled up with people in costume, as it was a few days before Halloween. Fun vibe overall. I had seen the swordfish special go by me several times while we were waiting for our table and decided that was what I was going to order. It took a while for our server to come over and take her drink order so we ordered drinks and some oysters. Oysters were great drinks were very strong I thought but tasty anyway, it took forever for her to come back to take our dinner order and by the time she did they were out of swordfish. And then she said oh well we've been out of swordfish for a very long time. So it would've been nice if she had told us that one we sat down although she didn't come see us right away, so she probably forgot. She was very scattered, and very slow. I told her we had been ready to order for ages and so maybe there had been swordfish back then. The food was delicious but the service was terrible. I ended up having salmon which was great and my husband had a melt in your mouth short rib. We passed on dessert because we both had fairly heavy meals, the salmon comes with a really delicious butternut squash risotto of which I ate almost every bite. I would go back, but try to avoid having the same server. She was kind of a train wreck, tossing comments over her shoulders to other tables, while she was standing at ours, and just the sheer amount of time it took for her to get to us. Turned a manageable situation into a bad experience. Last night Bia had the opportunity to make 4 inconvenienced customers into loyal ones - but they totally flubbed it. Our experience (parents night out) started smoothly with 6:30 reservations and prime seats on the patio (an awesome start to the night). While the waitress took our drink orders and a dozen oysters to start... she failed to mention that the gas went out in the kitchen and no more hot food orders were being taken. It wasn't until our a second round of drinks and when we started placing our dinner order that we were informed that we could only order salad.... salad. WTF? Salad?!!! Now, at no time during the course of our $129.47 drinks and oysters was it mentioned that the kitchen was having issues!! More aggregating is that the issue had been going on for at least an hour and a repair man was called in to fix it. So I get it. It was a "random" event. But comp a drink or 2? Make us feel appreciated? Try to turn lemons into lemonade. Nope. Nope. Nope. We payed the full bill and walked out without any regret from the staff. To save the night, we headed down to the Red Lion. Service was fast, food was good... and now they have a loyal customer for simply being reliable and "not Bia." Things happen. Nothing is ever perfect. A true testament to the heart of soul of someone is how they react under pressure. In this case, a total failure and clear case of apathy. read more

We stopped in on February 2nd which was a cold rainy Tuesday night. Living on the south shore we tend to go to the same three or four restaurants and decided to try somewhere new. Bia Bistro was fantastic! It is intimate and family owned. The owners daughter was dining next to us and you could just feel the warmth of the staff and owners and pride that has gone into this little adorable Cohasset staple. For a starter we split the duck pate which was peaked with a fruit purée. It was delish! For an entree we split the lamb and a side salad. Everything was excellent we will be back!!! read more

Just wonderful. From the first bite to the last. Hubby and I stopped in before a concert and the food was just delectable. From the warm bread with olive oil and balsamic dipping sauce, to the salad and the entrees. I had scallops with rice and curry veggies. Hubby has surf and turf of scallops and short ribs. Everything was perfectly prepared and just delicious. Hubby finished up with molten chocolate cake and ice cream. The food came out quickly and the waitress was a delight. My only recommendation is to order an appetizer or extra side dish if you are hungry as the portions are not huge. We sat outside which was nice that they have so many tables outside. Although in mid September it was colder than we expected. We will definitely be back. SO GOOD. read more

Love this local restaurant in Cohasset. It's my go to restaurant whenever I want a great dinner, amazing glass of wine and a really cool vibe. While the ambiance is pleasant enough, we had the most overpriced meal, I've had in years, commensurate with what we all had....and I live in New York City. We all wanted salmon...they were out. Two of us opted for salads with scallops added. We each received an appetizer size (super small) salad with four scallops each. The price for this was $32 a person. I can't think of anywhere in the world where you would pay this for a SMALL salad with 2 ounces of fish. When we got the bill, we thought it was meant for another table as they listed this as a "seafood platter!" Had we simply ordered the scallops dinner, it would have had a full size dinner plate with lots of steamed vegetables AND SHRIMP for two dollars more. This should have been explained to us. We mentioned this to the server, again, thinking it wasn't our bill, and she spoke to the manager who took one half off of ONE SALAD bringing the one salad down to $17 which is still high for a small salad but within range of a fancy New York restaurant. But again, this is Cohasset. We paid our bill and went home to eat. Next time, I'll be looking for a better seafood restaurant. Sorry Bia but this was a disappointing snack! read more

Things started ok. After we got the app all down hill. I got a drink and was never asked if I wanted another. My wife started with a water and was never asked if she wanted a drink. I ordered duck breast med rare it came well done. Wife ordered pork chop med and it was at best med well closer to well done. Sent duck back took 20 min to get it by then my wife's done eating. Then never see the waitress again until we have to chase her to pay. Owning a restaurant I'd be embarrassed to make someone pay for a meal that's done wrong then takes 20 min. No embarrassment here. We are new to the Hingham area, thought we would drive to town over - Cohasset - for dinner spots. First stop Red Lion.. (separate review- we left not feein it) so just a 4 min walk to Bia Bistro, the restaurant is a nice local spot, we got there early, sat at bar. Better selection of wine there , but I still which more Cabs available by bottle & glass. Ok, dinning room looked cosy, converted home. We split a ceaser salad a 3.0. I had the special which was rack of lamp, mixed vegetables, very solid enjoyed it, 3.9-4.0. For a side I had gnocchi ( which came out as full bowl) but they were very good...3.5-3.8. My partner had the chicken with duck fat and risotto/ veg's. She enjoyed that solid 4.0. She would, as I would, order both again, which is highest compliment in our book. I hear great things about their hamburgers and lamb shank. Service was excellent, very friendly place, we'll be back. read more

**update** as I finished writing this I did some quick math and realized we were overcharged to boot! Unbelievable. Two drinks at $12 each, one entree at $29, one at $26 and our total was $103. We were so desperate to get the check that we didn't even really look at it and handed over our Amex. What a mistake!! I'm furious!!! My husband and I went to Bia Bistro for date night over the weekend. We live in the neighborhood and walked over fairly early, around 6pm. There were a few tables seated outside and since the weather was cool but nice we decided to eat outside on the patio as well. We received menus promptly and our server took our drink order. That's where the service fell off the wagon. Hard. Our drinks (a pimms cup and a cucumber mojito) came out a little slower than I would have liked but I was excited because they came in very large glasses and at $12 each it seemed reasonable. I am pretty sure each drink lacked all of its liquor and was just a ton of mint in soda. I ALWAYS get two cocktails when we go out for date night (it's a splurge!) but I didn't even bother. We ordered our dinner, I had salmon with a caper cream sauce and mashed potatoes and my husband had "tiny meatballs" with gnocchi. Both were fine, not great, but fine. They were both overpriced for what they were- my salmon was almost $30. Our server, Kathleen, checked on us exactly once, when we were about 75% finished with our meals. And then nothing. Nothing. We sat at the table with empty dirty dishes for 30 minutes. We saw our server many times as she walked past us on her way to tend to other tables. She never even bothered to look at us or to gesture that she'd be over as soon as she could. The restaurant was a little busier at this point, but by no means slammed. They had no wait for a table. Other servers and the hostesses walked by our dirty dishes without clearing them. We had to flag our server down to get the check and we were so afraid of losing her again rushed to give her our card before she could even leave it with us. She never asked if we wanted another drink, coffee, dessert, or asked how our meal was. The bill for two drinks and two entrees was $103.79 and I've had better service at Denny's. When you move to a new place you have to find all new favorite places, which is not easy. It's been over 8 months and I finally found my new favorite restaurant. Prior to my dinner at Bia Bistro I hadn't eaten anywhere locally where I thought "I have to come back here". (Well, I do like Wild Ginger for take-out Thai but that's a different type of scene). I enjoyed the atmosphere inside. We sat at a high-top 2-top table near the bar which was more enjoyable than being in the back dining room, if you ask me. For starters, our waitress was terrific. I forget her name but she had an Irish brogue and she made some excellent recommendations regarding both wine and menu. My husband and I were each interested in a different wine so we opted for glasses instead of sharing a bottle. She brought them both over to the table for us to taste and then gave us very generous pours. The menu here is interesting. They have starters, bar portions, half portions and entrees so we had to ask about what the sizes meant. Our waitress was very helpful in saying things like "the full meal has 6 scallops while the half portion has 3". Not that I needed to know exactly what amount of food I'd be getting but since it was our first time we wanted to make sure we ordered enough, but not too much. With so many choices we opted for sharing a few smaller plates. We each started with a lobster stuffed oyster. (You could order them individually, which was nice). It was okay but probably the least memorable thing we ate all night. The "lobster" part of the stuffing was barely identifiable. Then we split the anti pasto which was very good, but not at all what we expected. It was more like a green salad with some cheeses & meats. I didn't expect all of the green, but I enjoyed it. During this time we also enjoyed warm, homemade bread dipped in a mixture of good quality oil and vinegar. Our next dishes were the highlights of the evening. We shared small plates of the the penne Bolognese and the short rib (which arrived on a bed of mashed potatoes with sliced carrots and asparagus). The short rib was melt in your mouth tender, and delicious. The Bolognese was wonderful too - a perfect blend of spicy, acidic tomato with just a hint of cream. It's a pretty basic dish but done right, it's delicious. We ordered on the heavier side because it was a chilly night, but I'm looking forward to going back and trying the spicy seafood stew and the scallops next time. I think Bia had an off night based on the other reviews. Four entrees took an hour to serve, two arrived before the others and the remaining two entrees arriving more than five minutes later. :( The server did not managing the slow wait very well -- it would have been nice to have have a complimentary appetizer while we waited. Another issue was my entree. I ordered what I thought was the full plate serving of the short rib tortellini; however six raviolis arrived, luke warm. I protested to our server, who dutifully went to the kitchen to get an explanation. Our server explained that the pasta was actually tortelloni and the full serving was six. I know I'm coming off sounding like a huge pain in the ear, but this bothered me because the pasta wasn't tortelloni or tortellini... It was ravioli!! That aside, if the full portion is six, it seems a bit meager -- however, full disclosure I'm pregnant and have a larger than normal appetite. Nothing to accent the pasta (no veggies etc.) just six lonely, warm-ish and overly salty raviolis. My companions did enjoy their meals very much. SO once the kitchen got the dishes out, things were OK. I will go back, because I feel that it was a bad night for the kitchen. Maybe someone was sick or they didn't get a shipment of food in or something. I'll update my review at that point. read more

Atmosphere has an "in town vibe" that I liked. Service not so good. Muscles in Seafood Stew were either not cleaned or out of season. Waitress response to our complaint that they could not be eaten was that "the kitchen will rinse them better next time".
