A medium rare filet at the Blacksmith in Pembroke

We ate at Blacksmith Tavern in Pembroke tonight and were extremely disappointed with the quality of our son's dinner, along with the way we were treated by the manager. As a treat, our son ordered the filet dish cooked medium rare. The steak came out on the well side, medium well, at best. We mentioned it to the waitress when she checked in and she said she'd get us a new filet cooked as we ordered, medium rare. The manager then came over and seemed aggravated with us and said the way the steak came out was their "medium rare". The steak was brown with a tiny hint of pink, definitely not medium rare. Fast forward to thirty minutes later and the manager dropped a new filet plate and said "here you go, hopefully you like this one, it's more on the rare side" in a condescending tone (to our 12 year old) the walked away before he could cut into it. Our son proceeds to cut into it and this is what he got (see below for a picture of our medium rare steak) Our 6 year old was even horrified and said "is that a raw piece of meat or poop!?" We were not even upset about the way the meat was cooked, but more so with the way the manager treated us. He was obviously annoyed that we mentioned the first steak was overcooked and he never came over to check in again after he rudely dropped off the raw piece of steak. We told our waitress (who was great) that he would not be eating it and asked if she could take it off the bill, which she did. For the record, our entire family orders our steak medium rare everywhere we go, and we have never sent any steak back. Also, my husband says I am being too nice with this review ‍ Anyway, we are bummed and will not be returning to Blacksmith.

Food was just not good. Again. Keep trying and keep wanting it to be better than it is. New ownership maybe? Not what it used to be. Bummer.

I went last night for dinner with my husband and really can't complain about anything we had. Our waitress was very attentive and if we asked questions she didn't know, she got us the answer instead of guessing. She brought us a water container and already filled glasses (which is such a small thing but so nice and appreciated). I had the New York Strip and it was cooked perfectly. I didn't care for the steak sauce, but you don't need it with the butter they make for the top. My husband had a special which was a filet and shrimp, also very tasty. My only critique being that it is fairly loud in there and the parking just seems too narrow, though there are ample spaces.

Service was horrible and slow. Missing items on the food we ordered. Waited for drinks and food.

The place is order at the counter and online with table seating inside and smaller table seating outside. The pricing seems pretty reasonable. Before going inside, I checked out their online ordering platforms, Toast (in-store menu prices) and DoorDash (higher prices/a few deals). I almost ordered the Haven roll on DD (BOGO), but I decided instead to order on Toast. I ordered the Baked Poblano Peppers ($9 plus tax) and the Bolognese ($14 plus tax) served with garlic bread. The estimated order time on Toast was 15 minutes, but my order was ready & packed in 25 minutes since my items required more prep time. I actually enjoyed some of my hot food at an outside table despite the wind. The portions were generous. The 2 baked stuffed poblano peppers with stuffed with a sweet ricotta & sausage mix with spinach and smothered in a savory tomato sauce, sort of like lasagna, but with peppers instead of noodles. The Bolognese was packed heavy into a foil container with pappardelle noodles, slow cooked meat, carrots, celery, herbs, in a rich creamy tomato sauce. The hot baked garlic bread was buttery. I repacked my food when I enjoyed enough and enjoyed the rest of the food the next evening.

About 25 tables, but not tightly packed. Felt like an Italian restaurant where you might just share with the table nearest you. I could order nearly anything on the menu. Awesome and terrible with a time crunch! We started with the focaccia bread, which was delicious. We saved some and I'm eating it now. Then it was Splitsville: I mean we split a salad, bolognese and chicken parm. Garden/House Salad was described as fresh, what the kitchen could get, flavorful and colorful. It was all those things and didn't disappoint. Chicken parm was not fried. Was Bell & Evans chicken breast not beat to hell. Was plump, juicy and flavorful. Maybe the best I've ever had. Bolognese was equally good. I'm glad we split everything so we could each try a number of different options. We were out on time and never felt rushed if you can believe it. Excellent service and pacing to go with the excellent food.
