On a recent visit, our hosts said we have to go to our hangout. The Oysterman. We ended up here for both a happy hour and lunch, and the food, cocktails, and service exceeded my expectations. The fish and chips rivaled what I had while visiting Seattle. The fish was perfectly cooked with a light, crispy batter that wasn't greasy at all. During our happy hour, I indulged in the fried oysters, and they were cooked to perfection. You could tell they were fresh and expertly prepared. If you're looking for a great happy hour, lunch, brunch, or dinner, Oysterman is a great choice! They do get busy, and if you are arriving with a large party, plan on reservations. If we lived here, the folks at Oysterman would know our names. Our hosts are regulars here, so we visited the Oysterman several times during our visit. True to their name, they offer fresh local oysters, as well as littleneck clams, shrimp, and of course, locally caught fish. On our first HH visit, I ordered the Duxbury-sourced oysters. They were sweet as sugar and a tad briny, Perfecto. Plus one ordered fried oysters, and they were fried perfectly. Since our golf match was rained out, we stopped by for lunch. My fish tacos were on point. The cod was so tender, and the cole slaw was a perfect accompaniment. Plus one ordered fish and chips, and according to live feedback, they were as good as the ones she had in Seattle. Lightly breaded tender haddock equals 5-stars! She judges all fish and chips by the one she experienced in Seattle! Service is on point, and we rarely, if ever had to flag down our bartenders for refills. Our waitress, Kendra, was great! She was personable, helpful, and insightful. For an appetizer, we got the Spicy Deluxe-Bury. It was really good! For our entrees, we got the fish and chips and salmon. The salmon was really good. This fish and chips has taken the number one winner for best fish and chips on the south shore, sorry trident! Shucking great spot! Really cool open floor layout seafood joint. Fantastic raw bar, sushi selection and more hearty meals such as a burger or pork chop. Beer selection is great, margarita was spot on (I'm picky!) I probably would not get the fried oysters again, but that's just me! Would not walk in during busy hours and expect a bar seat. I thought this place was good. It was very busy at 6:30 which is to be expected. The service was good and it didn't take too long to get our food. I got the crispy chicken sandwich which was amazing! Awesome experience!! Top-notch service and staff. It was a Friday night, and there was definitely a wait, which should be expected however, before we knew it a table was open. Rob and his entire team made the evening special for my mother and I. I had traveled 10 hours earlier in the day and it was great to be taken care of in such a complete way. I was assured of an excellent meal by my son who had previously eaten there. The food was not mind blowing although the fish tacos, which I did not have, were apparently excellent. We also shared calamari which was by and large very good. My daughter-in-law and I had sushi rolls that were very good for being in a 'non-sushi' restaurant. The clam chowder was aceptable, and I would order it again but definitely not among the best I've had. So overall, the food was good to very good depending on your choice and the servings were generous. A very clean and well laid out restaurant with an outside seating area, clean restrooms and floors. The blight in the experience was that we were seated by a window whose blinds could not be lowered because 'someone lost the remote and it can't be found.' My daughter in law sat very uncomfortably and worse as the sun went down. Other than apologizing the staff did NOTHING to help remedy the situation; the obvious was to reseat us which was not considered. Apparently the problem was not new but they continue to sit customers at that table. The staff was pleasant enough but uninterested in solving our problem. Would I return? Date night. Discovered the perfect spot in Scituate. Newly opened a few months ago. Plenty of parking in parking lot. Great ambiance, atmosphere and brightly decorated. Nice bar and comfortable seating. Clean, well lit and not too noisy. Friendly greeting at the door. Our waitress, Kendra was wonderful and excellent! Attentive, friendly, courteous, polite and professional. Servers were great as well. Food and drinks served with perfect timing. Awesomely prepared, good portions and awesomely delicious. We ordered the buffalo cauliflower for appetizer, clam chowder and the fish tacos and oysters po'boy for entrees. The buffalo cauliflower lightly battered with just enough heat and blue cheese crumble. The clam chowder was the best. Just enough potatoes, seasoned perfectly, deliciously loaded with plenty of tender clams. The fish tacos and oysters p'boy, lightly battered, fresh and tasty. Mango sushi was fabulous. We expected a lot more from the Oysterman. The salmon was overcooked, the fried oysters (Oysterman) had tons of batter and were cooked way too much. The raw Duxbury oysters (Oysterman) were bland. It's like they spilled the brine and filled them back with water. We had no salt and pepper. The salmon avocado rolls were barely a half inch thick. I think they cut them in half.... They cut too many corners at this location. The Duxbury location was much better the last time we went. read more

Pretty nice little addition to the Scituate restaurant scene. Popped in opening week to check it out without reservations and were quickly seated. Host was friendly and my server was lovely. Very cool vibe, large horseshoe bar was packed with plenty of staff servicing the bar/table patrons. Buzzing but not too loud to have a conversation. The sushi was the star of our dinner. We tried a bunch of things, Brussels sprouts appetizer was huge but not particularly great. The garden salad had a very vinegar-forward dressing that bordered on acrid. We tried the chicken sandwich which was a healthy portion but batter lacked seasoning which left it eating a little flat. Fries were fresh and hot - really good. Overall, for a suburban joint it was good! Better than most in Scituate. I'll be back for cocktails and sushi but will likely bounce between Salt and Oysterman as price point is effectively the same with Salt Society having the edge in cocktails. read more

First time here - great new spot! Cute casual atmosphere and a fun big bar. We started with clam chowder - yummy but we could have split, it's a big bowl. I got the lobster roll: meaty and nice amount of lobster with good flavor I loved the chives in there, a great crispy roll, and dynamite fries! My husband got the fish and chips - delicious batter but it was far too little fish for an entree, especially compared to the mountain of fries it came with. It is the morning after eating a perfect meal at Oysterman in Scituate. The sushi was fresh and so tasty and the salmon dish with cilantro was one of my favorite all time, salmon dishes. We walked in and immediately smelled fish. Not ideal. A bad smell. Egg roll app was greasy and I didn't bother finishing it. My friend got the fried chicken sandwich. Wasn't really that great, new restaurant to the area and was really busy. Wasn't finished with our app and the meal was in front of us. Ordered the lobster roll and veggie risotto with lobster, you would thing eating in a restaurant that is in a fishing and lobstering community that the lobster would be fresh but no it is frozen. Such a great addition to Scituate by far the nicest dining experience. The large vaulted dining room area features a large horseshoe style bar with raw bar so you get to see the shucking action! The parameter seating is nice and intimate great for groups ...the food was fantastic and service top notch. Don't forget to check out the "lounge" side , full drink menu and raw bar only but it has a south end lounge type feel...a must try all around! 5 stars! read more

Two of us went for dinner on a Tuesday night and sat at the bar. Our food was subpar. We had sushi rolls and a salad and clam chowder. About an hour after eating at the oyster and we both became ill with food poisoning . I contacted the restaurant several times and they Refused to respond. The sushi is not fresh. I've had better grocery store sushi. The clam chowder tasted like a bag of flour and the salad was horrible. The food poisoning was just the cherry on top. Save your money and go elsewhere. Obviously this restaurant could not care less about its customer. read more

Overall excellent dining experience. The nautical ambience they've created combines a balance to the energetic vibe of the horseshoe bar crowd. Food was high quality, service attentive. Special mention of the sushi, both fresh and well presented. Personal favorite was the pasta bolognese, deliciously braised slow-cooked pork, beef gravy over al dente rigatoni was absolutely delicious. Rivaled cuisine I've eaten in Italy! Have been to the Scituate location several times and it has been EXCELLENT but tonight it was less than mediocre. We both had the fried chicken sandwich which was mostly batter. Also in the past the bar service has been superb - tonight it was ok but nothing more than average. A disappointing evening but we'll give it another shot!!
