This place does a few things really well. For one I love their sicilian pizza. Given that this is a bakery and not a pizza joint I have to say they actually out-do most pizzerias in the area. Their breads are also fresh baked and homemade. They make well stuffed subs with these. My only critique is that like many bread shops they do not cover the rolls or put them in a bin to keep the flies off them. Some of their Italian cookies are good but most are just OK in my opinion. First time here today but we will definitely be back. We just moved to Chatham and have been on the search for our Italian deli and I think we have found it! We got the Godmother (prosciutto sandwich), a slice of pizza, and a Napoleon for dessert. The sandwich was excellent and my husband and I both remarked that the bread was fresh and perfect and the sandwich proportions were spot-on. I can't wait to come back and try their other sandwiches as well as the pastas and other dinners. This might even qualify as our new catering joint. The service was excellent - friendly and fast. Ordered the Short Ribs over Papradelle and when it arrived the dish was served over broken Lasagna noodles instead. The waitress went and asKed the chef and was told they were out of Papradelle and substituted the other noodle. They offered dessert but my guest is diabetic. Arrogance and superiority is the order of the day in what otherwise could be a friendly and warm deli. She was rude to kids and made it clear they are not a kid friendly deli. "Dad, that women seems angry". Yeah, we're in no rush to head back. Better selection and prices at the ShopRite deli around the corner. And definitely way more friendly! read more

Our dinner tonight at Biagio's in Striling, NJ was the worst experience I've had at a restaurant in a decade. Don't even think of having dinner here. Four of us each bought a Groupon ticket for dinner at this dump. On arrival, they added a new condition that was not printed on the Groupon: they decided that only one Groupon PER COUPLE could be honored and the other one was going to be full price! They insisted that they "had to make a living" and this was the only way they could make a living while still participating in the Groupon program. (This new condition precisely contradicted the terms that our companions received when they called a few days prior to our visit to verify that each and every Groupon would be honored at one meal.) They did admit that if we all sat at different tables, they would, of course, honor all four Groupons!!!! But because we were together, they would only honor two of the four we presented. We were with another couple that we had invited to participate in the Groupon program. They were treated to the same chicanery that we got. We're so embarrassed for having invited them into this racket! What a rip-off. Don't go here for dinner. The food is decidedly mediocre and the service is amateurish. They simply do not know what they are doing and they will not comply with the terms of their own advertising. Unfortunately, In the end, they get the last laugh: we're never going back there again and my dishonored Groupon will just go to waste. They will profit from that but I don't care.... I been wanting to try this establishment for a long time since I live rather close. All I tried was the Italian cookies cause I am having a shower & wanted to make up some arrangements. The cookies really weren't very good. Maybe laying in the case to long. The chocolate chip cookies were the WORSE I ever had in my life. Tasted soooo bland, dry & stale. Shop rite store brand tasted better than these. I barely got down 2 & had to throw the rest away. Yuck!i will get my cookies from Bovella's bakery in Westfield or Rt 22. I bought some last week & wow were they good. A little on the expensive side but well worth it. You get what you pay for is so true. I feel bad saying this because I grew up going to Calandra's but this bakery has the best semolina bread I've ever had. And the fresh mozzarella is just as exceptional. First time at Biagio's and we truly had a fantastic time! The restaurant is small but very warm and cozy. It was very busy on a Saturday night but we were able to get a table when we walked in. We started with the burrata caprese salad which was delicious and my favorite part of the meal. We had penne with vodka sauce and chicken parm and both were very enjoyable.. with leftovers to take home. We ended the night with cappuccinos and were unfortunately too full for any of their delicious looking desserts. They have a very extensive Italian menu and a large list of specials to choose from. The service was extremely friendly laid back and chatty... you get the feeling you are family and there is definitely no pressure to leave or order quickly... even though they are so busy. I grew up in Brooklyn in a very Italian neighborhood where there were stores filled with food like Biagio's, I felt like I was transported back in time. I had the pizza, which was outstanding. What a disappointment. We made a reservation to go celebrate our anniversary and when we got there the place was packed and we were told they did not have our reservation in the book. We explained that we spoke to a young guy and the hostess said she had no idea who that was. As we walked out we found him working behind the bakery counter. We had a function here for about 25 of us; yes, we took up most of the place. We are from out of town, but had a blast. We began with antipasto platters, sausage and broccoli rabe, eggplant parmesan, and cheese balls. All was good. For dinner we selected ravioli, some chicken dish, amd Chilean sea bass. I had the sea bass. It was nicely prepared. Surprisingly, three shrimp accompanied the dish. That was welcomed. I was a bit surprised by mashed potatoes the starch. The desserts/pastries caught all of our eyes. We had a cake made for the occasion. I am not a cake eater, but enjoyed it with the custard and strawberries. Yum. Biagio's is our go-to place for bread and breakfast pastries and for sandwiches. We've worked our way through about 20 of the sandwich offerings so far and couldn't be happier. Biagio's breads (as others have said before) are fantastic; there's even a gluten-free bread that tastes like bread! My wife used to pick up cookies/pastries for the office there--they were *always* ready on time for an early pick-up and too rarely were there leftovers. We stop by with the dog for outdoor lunches often during the warmer months and the staff and other customers have been wonderful to us. I think this is the perfect neighborhood deli. Four stars because we haven't eaten dinner there often enough to comment, but my wife says they handle seafood really well. read more

Started with various appetizers - fried calamari, octopus over crostini and ricotta cheese balls. All great. The octopus was the most tender I have ever had. What a lovely dining experience! My steak au poivre was perfect and the risotto with fungi really delicious. We shared a wonderful caprese and a mare et monte (sausage, calamari, peppers, greens) which was the best! Our daughter had the short ribs and my husband had the seafood fra diavolo - borh excellent! Used to love this place, but had the worst carry out experience ever last night. Had friends over... 4 adults, 4 kids, entrees, salads and apps. Pretty big order. They said it would be ready in about 25 minutes, so I showed up after about 30... then waited for another 20 before it was ready. No big deal until I get home and find out that they didn't give us our salads and one of our entrees. So I drive back (about 15 minutes away) and the salads are ready, but not the entree. Wait another 10 minutes for that. The guy behind the counter was very apologetic, but no offer to even comp the stuff they messed up... I'm not one to make a scene, so didn't ask for it, but c'mon. I had been here several times for dinner before their new iteration of the restaurant. While trying to appear more "upscale" with the new decor and staff, they have totally missed the boat. The food is still good but that's where it ends with a thud. The wait staff is clueless and the service is absolutely abominable. After waiting 45 minutes for the food to appear we were met with one nonsensical excuse after another including how they "don't fire up the mains until the appetizers are done". I've been a restaurant owner and know when an order gets missed...I also know that lame excuses to the customers versus candid honesty when you screw up is the perfect way to lose a customer. Believe me, you've succeeded here. Oh and did I mention a plate of pasta with seafood at 35 bucks??!! A big thank you to Carmela and Biagio for last night's awesome dinner at their place Biagio's Italian Gourmet Specialties and Trattoria Biagio We went there last night with friends and all of the food was fantastic. We started off sharing appetizers. The calamari was a perfect balance of sweet and spicy. The arancini and shrimp specials were great as well. For dinner I had the Seafood Fra Diavolo with the black ink pasta - just outstanding and so much food I took half of it home. My wife had the chicken savoy and loved it. The St. Joseph's pastries for dessert were the biggest I have seen and were delicious way to cap off the night. Stopped at the bakery on the way out and picked up bread and other goodies. Service was great and both Carmela and Biagio checked in to see if everything was OK. Lastly, all of the Covid protocols were in place - tables were spread out and masks were worn by all staff - we felt comfortable dining indoors. Just a great night and place.
