I ordered a few holiday dishes to help me out in that area. When I called and placed my order, I asked if they could make creamed spinach, they said yes. My husband went to pick up the dishes and they were not ready. I went at the end of day on Christmas Eve and picked them up. Well, I should have looked at the dishes at the store, but I didn't. Got home and was disapointed at what I saw and smelled. Creamed spinach was NOT creamed spinach, it was a cheese roux w/ a few spinach leaves in it. It was not edible. I never smelled anything like it. I had my husband take a taste and the expression was not a good one. I ended up making my own creamed spinach that night and had to throw out theirs. I did call after Christmas to let them know I was not pleased and again disappointed. I was suppose to get a call back by the part owner. Spoke w/ the one, but he passed it off to the other. We also ordered the brussle sprouts w/ pancetta. It was not pancetta, but bacon. Again, disappointed. I spent a lot of money for dishes that I had to redo. Will I recommend them to others, NO. New owners and it's a shame that they are not willing to make a wrong, right. Keep making the sandwiches for the kids, because the high end dishes are NOT worth it.

Awesome specialty sandwiches. Lots of prepared takeout staples. P17 sandwich has always been a huge hit with students but I feel like the quality of the sandwiches has gone down... lately the chicken has been super dry and ciabatta bread thin and soggy.

Bring your own bottle opener lol, you can buy single bottles of beer or wine to enjoy outside with a sandwich but the Monterey Gourmet staff can't open them for you. Or just pick a twist-off :). Quite a few tables on the patio out front for good weather days; in bad weather this place is takeout only. The sandwich menu is enormous: 40 speciality sammiches, 20 more grilled paninis, plus another 25 simple deli choices like chicken salad, turkey club etc. Many ready-to-eat salads if you're in a hurry. Also a large selection of dinner entrees for taking along; the halibut looked rather yummy. Crazy busy when we visited at lunch time with 4 people making sandwiches plus 2 cashiers trying to handle all the people, the line to pay was 6 deep! We waited about 10 minutes for the food to be prepared, didn't seem unreasonable considering all the orders ahead of ours. I tried the #25, a no-mayo tuna-on-pita for $6. The size was modest yet about exactly right for a lunch portion. All I'm saying is, if you're accustomed to places serving what looks like full can of tuna on a basic sandwich, that doesn't seem to happen here. Vegetarian rating: 3 stars, the options include a mozzarella & red pepper sandwich, a veggiewich of cucumbers peppers zucchini & cheese, eggplant parmigiana (plain or grilled panini), grilled veg panini, egg salad or prepackaged salads like mediterranean, Caesar and spinach. I'm new here, didn't know previous incarnations nor owners. On my most recent visit the guys behind the counter were too busy to say much of anything, and the checkout ladies were efficient, not chatty but certainly not grumpy. I also found the sandwich, chip and drink prices very much in line with other delis in the area (e.g., *opper *ettle). Delivers in the area for a "nominal" (not stated) fee, min $50, max 5 miles, called in by 10am (whew - lots of conditions).

Definitely a staple for many years of sandwich eating. Awesome deli, albeit a bit on the expensive side, its completely worth it. Everything is fresh - so if you get say.. a breaded chicken cutlet sammich (the #13!!) its hand-breaded chicken. And oh so good. They make a good sloppy joe and italian sub as well - and really shine with the fancier sandwiches. How often do you find a deli that puts Honeycup mustard on the sammich? That'd be the turkey with brie on pumpernickle, btw. Oustanding. The store itself is amazingly packed with goodies - all kinds of gourmet items from crackers to mustards to coffees to even wines and beers. They have some awesome homemade cookies, too.

GREAT food! We go here at least once a week for lunch as it is right down the street from our office. The panini's are perfectly done & They have so many options - there is something for everyone! In addition to sandwiches, they have various pre-made dinners, sides, dressings, cakes etc. in addition to a bunch of item that are frozen. They also have a bunch of different wines as well as other various gourmet items for sale. The service is pretty quick but If it's during lunch time you're better off calling ahead, as it gets very busy and the panini's can take a while to make.

And no one smiling, nor upbeat and happy in greeting us. Good was goof to very good. Solid plus, no wow factor. My piece of salmon was not only large but perfectly cooked as requested. Short ribs and a veal Milanese was also ordered and was very good. Veal was tender, short ribs soft as soft could be. We chose to go out for ice cream even though they had some decent options. And given how busy it was, I wasn't even sure who our main server was. No one came over during the meal to ask how we were going. And at the end the server was different than who we started with and it took forever to flag someone down for the check. Food was a 4, but everything else we encountered brought the overall experience to a 3. I'm new to the area so if and when I'd be happy to go back and hopefully have another good meal with better service - more attention!

Originally, we planned to stop at a coffee shop to relax and wait for the traffic to ease. However, when we drove past this restaurant, we decided to check it out instead. The gentleman who seated us was super friendly. Our server, Theressa J., was equally warm, and professional. We weren't hungry at all. My husband ordered the Crispy Fritto Misto as an appetizer. I couldn't resist ordering the three-course meal, which included tuna and salmon poke to start, followed by lobster tail gnocchi and bread pudding for dessert. Since I wasn't hungry, I ended up taking most of my entrée and my dessert home. Everything was absolutely delicious, and we're so glad we decided to give this restaurant a try. By the time we finished dinner and got back on the road, the traffic had eased considerably. Needless to say, we went home happy!
