I cannot fathom how these bagels are ranked so highly. Being used to bagel shops in NYC and Boston areas this was a disappointment. Bagels were sort of not fresh and somewhat undercooked relative to what my understanding of bagel quality. Perhaps bagels are different here than back east. I will have to try other places in this area to gauge or stick to the Brueger's chain for consistency until I get back east. read more

I just went to Bialys bagel shop, one of my absolute favorite places to get a great bagel. A women inside , I think it was one of the owners, came out and told me my bagels were on the house today, it was in her heart to do it. It almost made me cry. It was such a nice gesture and I really appreciate it. I've been a Bialys customer since I was a little girl, my mom took me there every weekend, we love bagels. My mom has passed on but I have carried on that tradition with my family as well. Thank You again to Bialys for brightening my day today, sometimes it's the little things. The bagels are DELICIOUS! But they don't cut or toast the bagels. They sell cream cheese in a cooler but this place would be so much better if they cut and toasted the bagels. Wife and I wanted some jalapeño cream cheese bagels so we were headed for an Einstein Bagels shop. On the way we decided to give this local shop a try. I was ready to be wowed considering the high Yelp reviews. I was unimpressed. Not only do they not make their own cream cheese, which was surprising for a local bagel staple, but they only carry three kinds: regular, strawberry, and chives. I ate two bagels, poppyseed and garlic. The bagels themselves didn't wow me either. Quite honestly, I would have rather taken a frozen bagel, popped it in the toaster, and slapped my own choice of flavorful cream cheese on it. We don't eat a lot of bagels, this was a one off, and we don't plan on returning. If you don't mind the total lack of cream cheese flavors, give the place a chance. There's a reason this was voted one of the best bagel shops outside of New York! Cause it is legit good! These are the best bagels I have had and are reasonably priced to boot. I love to cook breakfast so grabbing a couple pretzel bagels and going home and making a breakfast sandwich is something i love doing. They are fluffy yet crispy. The bagels were solid. They had a seasonal pumpkin bagel, but otherwise the flavors were pretty much standard one could get at any bagel shop. I brought home a half-dozen or so flavors and none really stand out as memorable in my memory(good or bad). They did not offer anything in the way of sandwiches on the bagels or much to go with it. I would probably stop in regularly for a carry out lunch if they did as it is close to work. I don't see much reason to stop in with any frequency as is though. If you've never been there it would certainly make sense to give them a try, but I won't be surprised to read a review from you stating your experience was pretty much average. The woman who bagged the bagels was friendly and seemed to be enjoying her job. That beats the person at Einstein's in Parma 90% of the time. read more

Whenever I venture to New York City, I always make sure to bring back bagels from some hole-in-the-wall joints I know in Brooklyn. Who would have ever thought I would wind up bringing back bagels from Cleveland?! These bagels can hold their own with a fair number of places in the City. Delightfully crunchy on the outside, thickly fluffy on the inside, these things are built to be devoured, built to pack on the pounds. But don't show up expecting anything more than bagels. Don't expect any lox, any schmears, any gourmet sandwiches, any service. You get your bagels here, and that's it. There are no chairs or tables to even sit down at. Should you even get anything more than a brusque summary of how much you owe from the cashier, I'd be surprised. Bring cash. Get bagels. Make something delicious at home. If you have the good fortune to be somewhere near this location at 3 o'clock in the morning, give yourself a little taste of heaven and knock on the front door if it isn't open, they will probably let you in, and as long as you have cash you can be thrilled to get a dozen bagels hot from the oven. Mish Mosh (everything) is my new favorite, though the more than a dozen other flavors are all very well done. Here is a recipe for a great breakfast sandwich I concocted for my son's friends while they were here over Thanksgiving break: THE NORTHWOODS NOSH One toasted Miss Mosh bagel, buttered Heat your smallest fry pan until a little olive oil or bacon grease begins to smoke Combine two eggs with a handful of your favorite grated cheese, (I prefer a four cheese Mexican blend from Costco or shredded provolone). Penzey's NORTHWOODS Spice blend, add one or two shakes per egg, especially if you are trying to make three or four sandwiches at once and split a larger portion into multiple sandwiches. And a handful of your favorite cooked breakfast meat, crumbled bacon, crumbled sausage, crumbled chorizo or even some diced ham Whisk together vigorously and add to the hot skillet, allowing it to cook for about 45 seconds before beginning to fold the edges in towards the center. When safe to do so, flip over and continue cooking until cooked through and getting brown and crispy on the outside. You want the resulting egg mixture to wind up being slightly larger than the size of the bagel, and this is easy to do if you shape the egg patty as it is cooking. When fully cooked, slip it on to the freshly buttered bagel, top with your favorite hot sauce or just eat it plain, let the wonders of this bagel and the Northwoods seasoning propel you to heights of comestible ecstasy You're welcome. read more

This is a no frills bagel shop at its finest. There's no fancy cream cheese here. Just some Philadelphia in the cooler that you have to get for yourself. Want your bagel sliced? Use a knife at home. Want to pay with a credit card? No dice. But if you want an excellent, fresh from the oven bagel, Bialy's is the place to go. You'll also save a fortune on bagels. My boyfriend and I each got a bagel and I got a cream cheese for a whopping $1.45. Excellent deal and even better bagels. Whenever I'm in town visiting family, I stop by Bialy's Bagels. These are the best bagels I have ever had. They have been at this Silsby /Warrensville location since I was barely old enough to buy a salt bagel for 0.12, plus a can of "pop" for a quarter on my wintry walk home from a Saturday elementary school basketball game. Their closest competitor, Amster's Bagels at Cedar Center (South Euclid), closed decades ago. Even without competition, Bialy's hasn't slipped a notch! As far as I am concerned, there are probably no bagels this good outside of New York City and its boroughs. My fave flaves are "Mish-Mosh" (garlic, onion, rye seed, salt, poppy), and single-item sesame and poppy. This is a take out location with some soda, cream cheese and lox in the cooler, and little else, but nothing else is needed. read more

I don't live in Cleveland, I was there for a day and read about this place. I was going past anyways, so I stopped in. Let me digress - a couple years back I had some bagels in - of all places - Emerald Isle NC. The owner of the coffee shop learned bagel making in New York - these bagels changed my life. I came back to my home town, and all the bagels were terrible - basically bread with a hole. And the chain bagel stores? C'mon! So I started making my own, and let me tell you they ARE NOT EASY to make well. On youtube, they use bagel dough to test mixers - I'm on my third one...... Anyway, so I'm a bagel snob - but I've worked hard to earn the title. The review, oh yeah - this place is a Bagel Shop. Not a hipster coffee shop, not a boutique eatery, but a specific kind of bakery. Period. The people working there were helpful and nice, no complaints there at all. I walked out with 2 dozen, 3 different kinds. They professionally put them in separate bags, so the strong flavored ones didn't ruin the more subtle ones (like garlic mixed in with blueberry, for example). I walked out, grabbed a mish mosh and took a bite. Not bad, I thought. As I savored the next bite, I thought this might be the best everything mix topping I've ever had! Walking back to my car, I'm half way through and can't stop! Good crunch, good chew, damn good bagels! All flavors were equally good, also. If I lived here, I don't know if I'd ever make my own bagels again. Really. They are not the absolute best bagels I've ever had, so 4 stars. But really darned good. Before I wax philosophic about how so much goodness is contained in one, simple bagel from Bialy's, I just want to say that I went to Bialy's on Saturday and picked up a half dozen bagels only to get home and find that I'd only been given FIVE! Weak sauce, Bialy's. Anyway, that's the only bad thing that's ever happened to me at Bialy's. The bagels are amazing. I wish they had a schedule to let people know exactly when they're hot because that's when they're best. I seriously do not understand how a little circle of bread with a hole in the middle can be so good but I don't care. I'd feast on these bagels for the rest of my life and never get tired of the flavors or taste. The pretzel bagel alone wil keep me coming back over and over again. As a newcomer to Cleveland, I've been going around sampling the "best of" goodies that Yelpers have been posting about, so I just swung by to pick up a few bagels from Bialy's. I've never had New York bagels so I've only really had chain ones or frozen ones (blech!), so I thought I'd see what a GOOD bagel was supposed to be like. Night and day, folks, seriously. I tried an egg bagel so I could really get the underlying taste and texture, and it was wonderful. The outside had a nice and shiny crust, and the inside... oh, the inside. It was somehow dense and fluffy at the same time, not like the hockey pucks that a lot of places sell. While I was there, I asked what a bialy was versus a bagel, and they told me that bagels are boiled before baking to give them their signature crust, whereas a bialy is not. The result is a softer, floury crust and a fluffier inside, a little different from a bagel but still very good. The bialys only come in onion, garlic, and possibly mish mosh flavors, so you might want to hold off before a date. The onion bialy is fragrantly flavorful and fabulous, though, and I'm not sure if the other half and the sesame bagel that I saved for my husband are going to make it until he wakes up.... read more

I don't know how they do it but they make the greatest bagel I've ever eaten. I grew up on Bialy's and I always bring back a couple dozen when I come back to Cleveland. The Mish Mosh and egg bagels are awesome. The sound of biting into the Mish Mosh's crunchy outer coating of spices is wonderful. The egg bagels taste just like challah. Also the namesake bialy's are similiar to bagels, but they have an indentation filled with goodness (usually garlic or onion), and a floury matte finish versus the shiny coat of a bagel. They are also delicious. I just reheated a Mish Mosh bialy from my freezer today and I am confident that it owns all other bagels in Cleveland, if not the universe. read more

Had to get my carb fix this morning, and nothing does it like Bialys. As a kid my Dad would make the weekly trip & bring home a big brown bag of bread deliciousness... I became an addict early & have not stopped. No frills, no funky names or ingredients, just straight up the best bagels ever. EVER!! I came in today & asked for what is hot (they are unreal when just out of the oven) and I had my personal fave - the half & half (half pumpernickle). I scarfed 2 down before I even made it into my office. No butter, no cheese, just sweet bread lovin from the oven. YUM. Know what the extra perk for buying a big bag is? One constant fresh and most often warm...... Over a dozen flavors to choose from (even MINI bagels on weekends!) No matter how you eat them ... right out of the bag, bringing them to your next meeting/event, at home with family (Sunday is BAGEL DAY in our house) , or like my inlaws stop in for a dozen of their favorite a MISH MOSH when visiting from out of town.....they are a great bagel shop! I've been a loyal customer for over 30 years and have never had a problem until today. I showed up at 7:50 and was rudely informed by the new owner that they dont open until 8. That's fine but they looked fully staffed and totally would think they would sell me a few bagels and obviously they dont understand the value of long term customers and apparently dont need money, should have made an exception instead of turning me away and pissing me off! I will never step foot inside that store again and also hearing that long term vendors are having problems dealing with new ownership as well, they have alot to learn on how to treat customers!!!! read more

CASH ONLY was a bit of a surprise, so I was glad I had a few greenbacks (I never say that) in my wallet. This is a very unassuming and plain place that, as others have said, just sells un-sliced delicious bagels. Take them home to your own tub of cream cheese or pick up a tub in the fridge in the corner. I guess I don't really care if they sell shmeers or not, or whether the place has seating or not (it doesn't), what matters is the bagels right? I thought they tasted perfect. They were very fluffy, flavorful, and you just can't get these everywhere. I love toasted bagels but these tastes great as they are. I regret I just found this place and I will probably be back to this place every other week from now on until I leave in August. read more

If you like finding hole in the wall type places then you will be rewarded by visiting this place. It's a grab and go place; no place to sit down and eat. (Read: no chairs at all.) Go for the Bialy's everything bagel that was a perfect mix of salty and soft and flavor. The pretzel bagel was also tasty. I didn't find the egg and cheese bagel to be noteworthy. You can get cream cheese, juices, and coffee here too but we just got a bag of bagels and little containers of single serve cream cheese and went to the Starbuck's around the corner to sit and enjoy them with a cup of joe. Definitely check this place off your Cleveland bucket list!! read more
