I recently competed in a bbq contest in Alabama. I live in Knoxville, TN. I usually wait till Sunday/Monday to get my meats together for comps and have 3-4 places that I go to. On Monday about 3 weeks ago I went to all my go to places as well as called a few other places and they were all out of St. Louis ribs. I have ordered pork from Mister Brisket in the past so I called franticly and asked about ordering ribs. He said after we hang up order online and you will have them Wed. afternoon. I dream of Mr. Brisket's Reuben. Juicy and tender corned beef piled high, gooey cheese and tangy sauerkraut. Having moved away from CLE I have been searching for a sandwich that would rival theirs. I still haven't found what I'm looking for in KC! This is a barebones spot- grab your sandwich and go. Though there is seating it is minimal. There are also chips and drinks to go with your sandwich. I was very disappointed in the size of the BBQ brisket sandwich when I was charged $12 for it. It came on a 4" X 4" soft pretzel bun, but it did have a decent amount of meat on it for the size of the bun. For $12 it should have been twice the size. read more

Based on word of mouth, I stopped in a month ago and have been back every week since. Love the vibe. Small independent owned. The owner personally knows lots of customers. Feels like a gathering of friends. Love the products. I only eat chicken and turkey once or twice a week. I buy beef for my husband and guests. I appreciate being able to call ahead or order online. I can make reasonable requests like having meats cut a certain way and my order is always handled promptly and with care. I also appreciate the way they wrap the meat. Was visiting a old buddy in Shaker Heights and needed to get my 2 day fix of Mr. Brisket's food. That means more then Brisket, I grew up in NYC and can't buy anything sold like this where I live. There's 1 Kosher deli with mini market about 2 hours away. A 1/4lb Pastrami sandwich there is 30 bucks and skimpy. I also bought a whole large smoked Brisket and put it on dry ice and shipped it to my house using next day delivery. Plus, I put in a order for a large Corned Beef w/cabbage and potatoes and my friend in Shaker will pick it up and send it. The food was excellent to say the least. I usually buy from Ben's Kosher Deli in NYC with 6 locations but I decided I like Mr. Brisket's food more. I've known Ben for 60 years and he takes special care of my family. Puts Katz' Deli in NYC, the palace of pastrami, to shame. Brisket was likewise a big happy. Trying to wrap my head around the mayo on it, but maybe it's a Cleveland thing. In Texas, they've hanged men for less. The pickles? Salt cure, and perfect. Sad that I had to do takeout to the car, in these crazed covid times. You can buy the pastrami, brisket, burnt ends, corned beef, etc. by the pound as well. They also have fresh, raw meat to make at home. We've been HUGE Mr. Brisket fans for many years. Because they've been so good and consistent for so long we decided to get our Thanksgiving dinner from them. we ordered dinner for 4 and couldn't have been more pleased. Neither of us is huge on turkey but this was absolutely perfect. The stuffing and mashed potatoes---mama mia! They just did a great job with these, especially the stuffing. That was the best stuffing I've had ever, and that covers about 70 years and a number of great cooks, too. Just outstanding. The cranberry-apple relish was 100% perfect as well. And, their pumpkin pie was excellent as well and served as the perfect dessert. Big thanks to Hank and his team of young, eager, employees who work so hard to make Mr. B such a great place. In terms of varietal cuts, especially beef and pork, this is my go-to locale. The quality is certainly top notch. You won't find browning meat sitting in a maxi pad on a foam tray here. Instead, they'll cut you a steak right there and then with a saw in the back. What you'll go home with is an ultra fresh, cut to your specification hunk of vibrant looking meat. Want a 2" thick Ribeye? No problem. Bone-in or bone-out? No problem. Want the bones on your rack of lamb frenched? No problem. The chalkboard in front of the counter is just a starting point to what they offer. But to get the real insight, talk to the extremely helpful Hank or Sanford. Every time I'm in, they'll go out of their way to help me through my purchase. Educating me each step of the way on the various cuts and the nuances between each. He's clearly an expert in his craft and an invaluable personality that is so hard to find these days, especially in this industry. The last time I was in, I was looking for meat to make shish kabobs. Hank gave me his recommendation and offered to trim the fat and cut into 1" pieces for me. Really? Outstanding! Now that's service. Then there was this time a year or so ago when I bought a 7lb brisket that I planned on pickling. What ever would I do with all the extras though? Hank made the recommendation to bring it back in and he'd throw it on the slicer so I could take home more manageable razor thin deli slices for corned beef sandwiches. Really? Wow. When I gave thanks for the outstanding service, his response: "No worries, that's my job". This type of personal service is refreshing and can't be found at the big box monoliths. And it's the primary reason why I'll continue to patronize mom and pop stores such as this. Mister Brisket, I'm glad you exist. You are a rare and dying breed. It resides in Mister Brisket, in a charmingly humble store with friendly staff who will learn your name and ask you how your family has been. Forget Slyman's, they're a one trick pony that thinks more meat = better meat, and that's just not true. Quality over quantity dictates Mister Brisket comes out on top. All the meats here are of solid quality, and locals in the know are aware that this is the place to get the best steak or burger or ribs for their next cookout. The smells alone when you step in the door here will make you swoon in carnivore heaven. All sandwiches you can order come quick, and are reasonably priced. They run great Tuesday deals on the sandwiches, so I would always come on Tuesday for the discount. I love their pastrami and corned beef. Their Reuben is a work of art. You know this place means business when the second you order your sandwich they get a massive fork and take a large hot side of corned beef out of a delicious bath and slice it fresh to layer on the sandwich. The bread is the right kind of rye, the kraut is assertive, they are not stingy with the thousand island, and they press the sandwich enough to really perfectly melt the cheese and get a buttery crunch on the outside. But the star of the sandwich, and 80% of its bulk is succulent, fall apart thick sliced corned beef. It's handheld perfection, this sandwich. Run (at least that way you can burn off some of the calories preemptively) to Mister Brisket, unhinge jaw and insert perfect Reuben. I'll race you there! read more

It's been a few years since I first discovered Mister Brisket, and they have only improved (they have a dining room now). This is a great butcher's shop, but I want to talk about the pastrami. Two slices of Schwebels (Youngstown born Youngstown Bread), a slice of cheese, a squirt of mustard, and the best pastrami I can even contemplate. Heaven every time I go. And the folks are great too. The old man's got stories, Hank's got jokes, and once Mrs. Herskovitz (I think) gave me a slice of lemony cake that I really enjoyed. read more

This is a little meat shop located on the corner of Cedar and Taylor, across from Fairmount cleaner's. It's a little hidden - I totally would not have noticed it all but my friend (who is a big fan of corned beef) raved about this place again and again to me until I had to give it a try. I have never been a big fan of corned beef, but this little place was a pleasant surprise to me. They basically give you a bun that is jammed with a two inch thick wad of meat.
