Biba restaurant's website says that it serves Latin-inspired foods in an upscale setting for dining in and takeout. Their menu changes seasonally, and it currently lists food such as fries, Cuban sandwich, chicken-tortilla soup, tagliatelle, flat-iron steak, and Hokkaido scallops. I met a friend here for one dinner. The setting was more on the casual side rather than fine dining. (I wore jeans and a blouse.) I have eaten authentic foods in South America, Central America, and the Caribbean, and I thought that the menu was slightly influenced by these regions. The waitress and waiter spoke nicely with us. Our dinner that included a BYO wine (with a $5 charge per person), appetizer, entree, and dessert lasted 1 hour and 45 minutes. The foods had strong flavors, and we both enjoyed everything that we ate. For appetizers, my friend and I shared the Crispy Brussels Sprouts, which also contained carrots, pecans, and a dressing, and the Hot Low Country Crab Dip, which contained a good amount of crab meat and was served with crunchy toast. For entrees, I ate the Cutler-cove Salmon, which was accompanied with asparagus, potatoes, and a spicy jerk sauce and habanero purée, and my friend ate the Arugula Salad, which contained fresh arugula, baby carrots, goat cheese, olives, and hot honey. It's been 7 years since our last visit and review, so an update is due. We again had the Cubans with fries, and they were still very good. We did takeout tonight, but while waiting in the dining room I noticed a reduction in the noise level, due to some noise-reducing changes. I think we'll put Biba back into our regular rotation. Review is a bit overdue, we have eaten at Biba two times so far and the food has been exceptional. Not only that but the service is amazing too. The food is fresh and loaded with flavors. The menu changes but that keeps things interesting. The chicken parm was excellent, probably some of the best I've ever had. The halibut tacos were awesome. The chicken bowl was really good. The scallops were so good too, I've been to a lot of great sea food restaurants and they don't come close to these. I could go on and on about the food I ate. The deserts are always top notch, homemade, amazing, incredible! The atmosphere is cozy, with candles, and soft lighting. Great place to take a date for sure! This is a wonderful setting... small, cozy and vibrant feel in a cute small-town Main Street setting. The food was pretty darn good and apparently the menu changes often so there's an excellent reason to revisit. Two of our group had the chicken stew and biscuits and raves about it. The Halibut dish was great and the serving was so large we needed a take home dish. WOW! WOW! WOW!! We were blown away by Biba flavor profiles, perfectly cooked entree's, fantastic service, and amazing atmosphere. We ordered two small plates and a main entree to share and then one of their amazing house made desserts. Nothing was less than 5-star quality! We started with the skillet fries, which were so tasty and unlike anything I've ever had! Next we shared the perfectly cooked Scallops paired with fresh summer charred corn, arugula, and this perfectly spicy Smokey sauce that I could have poured on just about anything! Next, we finished with the Halibut which was crispy outside and moist inside atop two tasty different sauces and wonderfully charred zucchini. We finished with the peach tres leches cake which was out of this world! I CANNOT RECOMMEND Biba enough!! Couple tips: the restaurant is small and closed Sunday/Monday so reservations are recommended. It is BYOB so if you'd like to enjoy a glass of wine or beer with your meal you'll need to bring it along. They charge a small corking fee with your meal. Lastly, this isn't a quick in and out type of place, it's an experience. So plan accordingly. We spent two hours there between our three courses and dessert. Bon Appetite!! read more

AMAZING experience & food. This was our first time at Biba and definitely not our last. We were in the mood for something different so decided to try out Biba (about a 20 min drive from us). Awesome service and awesome food! Our waitress actually recommended the zucchini entree as an appetizer and it did not disappoint. It was delicious and the sauce and pickled jalapeños were to die for. My husband ordered the Cuban sandwich which was extremely authentic and had very well balanced flavors - I stole a few bites of the fries (of course) and they were awesome and perfectly crispy. I ordered the fresh catch, which was swordfish on this particular evening. It was cooked perfectly and accompanied well. My only recommendation would be to add some sort of small starch to the dish (but instead, I just stole some of my husbands fries!) First restaurant we've been to in a while where we didn't need to ask for salt/pepper - huge compliments to the chef! And BYOB (which is a big perk in my mind). Biba is a breath of fresh air in Beaver County dining. Where to start.. maybe with one of my favorite restaurant qualities: it's BYOB. Great place to meet up with friends and bring a few bottles to enjoy with dinner. The food is excellent. We've never had anything we didn't like and we try to get something different each time we go. For appetizers, highly recommend the skillet fries. They are to die for. This visit we tried a few apps. We had the brussel sprouts, brisket Mac and plum adobo short ribs. Everything was delicious and bursting with flavor. We were kinda full by then but enjoyed the Cuban, which hit it out of the park. Get dine in or takeout here. You won't be disappointed. Biba is always my go-to restaurant when I have foodie friends visiting me from out of town. It is a BYO as all restaurants located in the charming small town of Beaver cannot get the common state liquor licenses. I'm not sure what their corking fee is these days. They also offer a Taco Tuesdays weekly menu. They source local ingredients and change up their menu items. Their indoor dining atmosphere is so warm and inviting. They also have outdoor seating on the sidewalk out front on the Main Street. The owner is so creative and welcoming. The staff provide my expected level of service. I highly recommend reservations for the intimate sized space. I am so grateful to have a local foodie restaurant in downtown Beaver saving me a drive into Pittsburgh. read more

We have been going to Biba for about ~2 years now and it's the best restaurant in Beaver. The menu is always rotating based on the seasons or what's fresh at hand. At our last dining experience, we had: Appetizer: fried eggplant, 10/10 Entrees: tagliatelle and flank steak, both 10/10 Dessert (not pictured): bourbon peach tres leches cake without the pecans, 10/10 No matter what we've ordered, it's been amazing. Typically we'll order their Pork Milanese, which is my go-to, and my fiancés favorite is the Cuban Sandwich. We've ordered those 2 menu items more than anything else, as they're usually kept on there. The food is always fresh and piping hot when it comes out. As for the service/owner: we keep coming back because of the atmosphere. You're treated like family and greeted with a smile. Amanda is our favorite server and James always does a quick job. The real star is the chef/owner Jason - no matter how busy the kitchen is, he'll usually take a few moments to come over and ask how your meal is. You don't have to be a regular too for him to come out and introduce himself. If they're short staffed or super busy, he'll buss tables or bring food out - he's not above doing any job and it's really nice to see. Biba is a BYOB so make sure to bring adult beverages with you. Overall, just a wonderful restaurant in the heart of Beaver. Just a side note: it is a smaller restaurant but they do have limited outdoor seating. We would highly recommend making a reservation a few days/weeks in advanced because they fill up quickly! Wow! What a gem of a spot. My boss took me here for Christmas dinner and I am so impressed! This reminded me of a hidden spot in NYC that my brother takes me too where you can tell the owner/chefs are passionate about not only good food but a great experience. Jason was so nice and came over to have some wine with our table. We started with the brussels sprout appetizer which just started things off right. I had the monk fish special and the flavors were so well developed and presentation was on point. Dessert was their homemade churros, which I recommend. I believe they rotate the flavor of the churro based on the time of year. It does get loud, but it's such a small space that even at max capacity it's not a lot of people. Also, Beaver is a dry town so make sure to BYOB. I will be back and mostly likely to bring my dad because he has an obsession in trying pork chops and the ones I saw being brought out of the kitchen looked absolutely incredible. read more

My children(14&15) and i tried this restaurant on a whim because we were looking for a local place that was not bar food. When we walked in, i instantly loved the atmosphere. It is so nice and would be perfect for a date. I was sad to find out it was byob but the food and service made up for it. Everything we ordered here was absolutely amazing! My picky child even liked their meal. We got the fries for our appetizer and Cuban sandwich, pork Milanese, and the halibut cheeks for our meals. The kitchen staff and chef definitely understand complex flavors and how to pair them. We liked this place so much, my children took my mom to dinner here for Mother's Day. I heard about this restaurant from a coworker. We had to drive about 30 mins to get there, but parking is free and it's a charming town. I looked on the website to see if it was reservations only and it didn't say, but I figured on a Tuesday at 5pm we shouldn't have a problem getting a table. When we walked into the restaurant it was 100% empty. The girl that greeted us was very unpleasant and not friendly. I told her it would just be two for dinner and she responded "do you have a reservation" which we did not. I apologized and said I looked on the website but it didn't say reservations only. She said "well it is. I can sit you at a table but when they come for their reservations you need to leave." I was absolutely appalled. My husband said that's fine because we were grabbing a quick bite. We sat outside so we watched everyone walk inside. We were there for an hour and at no point was the restaurant even close to full. We received pretty poor service. Every single person that works there lacks personality. The food was great, so kudos to back of house staff! Our belated Valentine's Day feast began with a threesome of appetizers: Mussels, their Taco of the Day, and before that a "salsa" that was more like a fruit salad. The "salsa" we ate alone and consisted of chiles, pineapple, and apple chunks. Acid and heat collided with each other abruptly, bluntly, torridly, and made for a potent portent of a grand meal to come. Kay cannot get enough mussels (mine included, hee, hee...), Biba's take on this simple seafood classic only exacerbating her perpetual craving with their daintiness, aroma, and mildly salty flavor. The bivalves in their gleaming ebon shells sat in a lake of white wine, garlic, onion, and peppers that was made roseate by the inclusion of tomatoes. Charred, crunchy slices of bread were on hand to absorb and be softened by the exhilaratingly ambrosial broth after the precious mussels were no more. The 2 tacos that comprised our second small plate were filled with shredded pork, pickled onions, piped-on sour cream, goat cheese (?), and were wrapped in pleasantly rustic maize tortillas that added a grainy contrast to the fibrous, succulent meat. Had I eaten the taco while standing on the sidewalk, I would have needed to take a certain stance in order to avoid the juices that dripped from it like a lacerated prizefighter. Having a brief menu makes choosing a meal simpler. Seeing that plantains play a role in their Pan Roasted Fish made choosing instinctual considering that I'd been dying to try plantains in anything for an excruciatingly long time (blame the television program 'Great Chefs' yet again). Along with the plantains came "rundown rice" and...*ulp* hush puppies. Our tattooed server (show me one that isn't inked these days) gave me two options, "Ahi or Mahi Mahi," he said. It turns out that they only had one helping of Ahi tuna left, so to be accomodating, I picked accordingly. "Thanks bro," he whispered to me prior to a fistbump. "We need to use that up. It's good that we'll be doing that early." And I didn't regret my pick for the Yellowfin was superbly supple, adroitly cooked, sublimely seasoned, divinely dampish, and evanesced inside my mouth like the oceanic filet mignon that it is. The presumably deep fried plantain flaps made for exotic potato chips that would have been glorious with nothing else but a creamy dip to immerse them in. The buttery rice made for a luxurious bed, and a mysterious, spicy black (bean?) smear added a touch of venom to an otherwise subdued yet sophisticated dish. Notice my apprehension towards hush puppies? Yes, I've never been a fan, until now. The hush puppies I'm accustomed to usually don't have much flavor to them and thus are fit for dogs as they were originally intended. Biba's, however, were sweet, crispy planetoid-like fritters of rocky joy. Kay had the Grilled Pork Tenderloin, and I didn't taste enough of it to evaluate it. Deciding what to have for dessert was again, facile. Only two selections were on deck for the evening: Red Velvet Cake and German Chocolate Cake. Kay took one, I took the other, and midway through each, we traded off. The German Chocolate cake was the most shockingly, brazenly wicked I can remember. Not a chocolate cake for the weak-willed, there was no actual "cake" but a mousse or fudge filling of some kind that almost made me cry out for something I rarely partake in; plain, cold milk. If it doesn't sound as if I loved it, bear in mind that rich desserts, chocolate ones in particular, invert value signs for me. If I make it sound evil, then I loved it, and this was villianous. The Red Velvet Cake was appreciatively lighter, had a white chocolate frosting as opposed to one of cream cheese, and evulsed my soul from tawny Teutonic doom. It's peculiar how restaurants I am deterred from going to or put off going to often end up astounding me with their quality. Biba was an ideal, shimmering example of a place that "played hard to get" with my culinary heart only to pilfer it. Book your next romantic meal here and discover not only Latin American cuisine as I did, but also the inherently romantic town of Beaver, PA. As unfair as it is, if Biba was in the East End of Pittsburgh instead of Beaver, they'd probably be up to 100 Yelp reviews by now and would be the "hot" restaurant du jour. If you can get out to this area, do so to try Biba for yourself. read more

Wow, this place is a real gem. My coworker told me about it and I vowed to drag BJ here asap. We stopped by on a Tuesday night. We did not know it, but the nice thing about Tuesday's is that it's Taco Tuesday. Which means that tacos are 1/2 price. We had viewed the menu online, but did not notice that they change it on a regular basis. We were told at the restaurant that they post the daily menu on Facebook, so if you are looking for something in particular, be sure to check before you go. I opted to start with the mixed greens salad with Fuji apples, smokey almonds, goat cheese, and balsamic vinaigrette. The salad was fairly large and very delicious. I really loved the dressing and the creaminess of the cheese. BJ started with the mussels. They were steamed in white wine, garlic, onion, peppers, tomato and served with grilled bread. He thought they were very good. For our meals, I got the chicken tacos and BJ got the grilled pork tenderloin with ginger beer braise, root vegetables and collards. He loved his meal. My tacos were served with sweet and sour tomatillo salsa and queso fresco and served in their house made tortillas. For dessert, we shared the churros with chocolate dipping sauce. So yummy.
