Dj's Filipino restaurant has been in Vallejo for many years located at Seafood city, it used to be inside and it took over the old Max's of Manila. I like to order lumpia Shanghai from there. You can call and it will be ready in 10-15 Mins or they'll make it fresh on the spot. They've changed ownership over the years but originally it was kampangpangan style Filipino food and it may have changed over the years. They're pretty solid with their rice plates, pork Sisig, beef steak, menudo and all of their Filipino dishes. It's definitely bang for your buck and probably more fresh earlier in the day. Service is great and parking is easy. Just make sure to not leave anything valuable in your car and watch out for yours bags while you're out here if you're from out of town. read more

I've been going to this restaurant for years and I am pleased that they have remained in business, especially during the tough times of the Covid pandemic. These folks serve up some good vittles in the turf-turo style, fresh hot meals on the spot with ample selection. And their selection includes a lot of the mainstream Filipino dishes that is sure to satisfy whatever you're hankering. They have stiff competition from other chain restaurants next door, but I favor these guys because I know it's a small independent business vs. those with a much larger footprint. I have always had a softer spot in my heart for the mom-n-pop category. I can also testify that their servings are generous, they're not "kuripot" with their food. Since Daisy and her husband used to run this place all the food was pretty good. Now, the Bicol Express no longer has coconut taste with little spice! Now they flavored it with sweetened sauce. Before the sauce was mustard in color and very flavorful! Their chicken adobo had sticky sauce! DJ used to be my go to spot for Filipino comfort food but it sadly no longer hits the spot. It looks like they've undergone new management and don't have the selection or quality they used to have! I stopped by here twice over the last month-ish. I ordered diniguan both times. This dish still tastes the same and the flavor was good. I also ordered the lechon sisig which was a bit dry and was lacking in flavor compared to before. I used to order several dishes from here including kare kare, palabok and paksiw, but none of these were available on my last two visits. They have a full cafeteria counter set up but only half of the counter had food available despite it being only midday. I likely won't be coming back here anymore due to the limited selection and things generally going downhill, but still giving it 3 stars for now since the diniguan was good and this place is nostalgic for me. read more

I'm glad to know that this place is still open and running because it's a great place to get food after grocery shopping in Seafood City. I love the Bicole Express here. Something about it always hits the spot and it's always my go to. Their beef steak is also very delicious. In the summers, their halo halo used to be my jam! If you love filipino food - definitely come here and grab a bite. It tastes like homemade food and that's how filipino food should taste all the time! I've been coming here for years and years and never wrote a review. In fact, I started patronizing the business when they were located inside the Seafood City mall complex. They moved quite a few years ago into the old Max's of Manila Restaurant space with its own entrance. Obviously, I must like the food if I keep coming back! Their pork adobo and bistek are out of this world delicious! Their pancit and lumpia are pretty good as is their sinigang when they have it. The staff is usually pretty friendly, and they're always quick and efficient. The reason I'm not there more frequently is because they're located in Vallejo, and since retiring from Solano County I don't make it that way very often! Lots of variety of Filipino home cooked style dishes. I can't believe it's my first time to visit. I opted for the Kare Kare, lechon sisig and Pork binagoongan with eggplant. The Kare Kare was very tasty and the tender meat, veggies were over cooked, lechon sisig is the tastiest as it's well prepared and you can even reheat it your toaster over and it will still be crunchy the day after. I was disappointed with the Pork binagoongan with eggplant because it was unexpectedly on the sweet side not salty at all. In addition, the eggplant was overcooked again. Now I know to not order the Pork binagoongan with eggplant again. Parking outside can be difficult due to the flow of people shopping at Seafood City and adjoining restaurants in the mall. My order was take out and I didn't really pay attention to the seating area but it is available. Next time I will try their breakfast menu. Ambiance is super casual and surprisingly not noisy inside. Usually come here in the mornings for a silog plate. I used to get the tapsilog but it was always too salty. My favorite is the tocilog which comes with the tocino, 2 eggs and garlic fried rice. Good portions. Prices have increased over the years but still a good price point. Biggest issue with getting food here is that I tend to get egg shells in my food a lot. Last time i went here, I saw the Happy Hour sign that they have that from 6pm-7pm, two entrees will be $7.99 only. I went around 6:10 am to see what they have for cheaps. All the trays were cleaned up. Very few were left behind, dinuguan was already dried up and thick, as well as munggo. Ordered a combo meal and opted for pansit bihon (it looks a bit dry already). Manong said 2$ extra for pansit which is okay. For the entrees, I got the pork afritada which tasted like tomato sauce. And the fried fish dilis. The cashier (young guy) always has a smile in his face, which is good. Keep it up. I was expecting to have more in the to-go container since they are about to close with still plenty of fried dilis was on the tray. But sad to say, I got the meal with lesser amount than expected. Don't get me wrong, the food here is delicious, however it would be nice if their receipts would show what items you purchased. We ordered some food items and didn't realize until we got home after an hour drive from DJ's (we live in Fremont), that they didn't put a large container of pancit and a large container of menudo in any of the bags! I was pretty bummed about it, since we paid over $100 for our food items, and when we calculated what we did have in the bags it didn't match up with the total on the receipt. The only things that are listed on the receipt are the name of the establishment, the date, the total amount, and the type of tender you used. We also ordered a tray of Sisig and I feel that they skimped on the amount that they put in compared to previous times we have ordered the same tray. Time of day: We came around what seemed to be closing time because half the trays were empty. Restaurant: There are plenty of Tables and chairs inside- I did not see an outside seating area. You form a line at the counter, all The food is already cooked hot and ready - so take a peek at all of the dishes before you hop in line so you kinda know what to tell them when it's your turn. Food: Lechon - the meat was good, not too fatty of pieces but the parts with majority skin were a little too tough for me and were difficult to bite through. I personally like the crackly skin when the consistency is more like chicharon. Sisig - I would say this is not the traditional Sisig dish - technically it's just chopped up Lechon with nothing added. we didn't have any onions or taste citrus notes to this dish. The lechon was good but it's about expectations in this case. Pork adobo - pieces were juicy and tender and fall apart bite size pieces. Flavor was delicious and seasoned perfectly. She said oh it's the sauce. Oh my goodness it was nasty. The noodles were clumped together and dry. Pansit is suppose to be loose. A waste of $35. The beef in the Caldereta were hard. That was $65. Nasty Plus they charge a fee for using credit cards. My guest loves Filipino food, but not from DJ Bibingkahan Restaurant, in Vallejo. Lesson learned reviews will go a long way in my book. It's a nice small restaurant that, for the cheap prices, gives out big ol' portions and soup included. It's quality filipino food for the price point and I like how everything is displayed but definitely having labels on what is what would be helpful for those not familiar with filipino cuisine. Thankfully I know quite about the dishes. My favorites are the beef bistec & pork sisig! It was siper juicy, fresh, and the taste was phenomenal :). The food is pretty decent here. I can see why reviews may be low depending on what you're used to but they give generous portions and overall have really tasty Filipino food. I'm not Filipino and keep in mind they don't label their food items (it's a point and pick kind of place where you hope that what you pick is what you think it is) - luckily my fiancé is Filipino and was able to help me out a bit. Food // went for the 2 entree item meal Got the pancit (always a fave), pork adobo (very flavorful and tender) and I'm not sure the name but taro leaves in coconut milk with ginger and this was amazing. My husband and I really wanted to get some filipino food and our friend recommended this place. I instantly drooled when I saw the sisig and diniguan. The sisig had a lot more vinegar than what I was used to, but the diniguan was definitely tasty and how I liked it. The lechon kawali pieces were really fatty, and I'm not sure I would get that again. I had to dock it a star because the customer service was a little off today - I don't know what it was, but one of their staff members gave off the vibe that she was having a bad day, and it was a little off-putting. This is like the Filipino version of Panda Express right outside Seafood City. They're fast and cheap. My boyfriend and I each ordered two item entrees with rice plus a Filipino eggplant omelet. I really liked the Filipino egglant omelet! Give that a try if they have it when you're there. They do not have labels for their dishes so if you're not familiar with Filipino dishes, you might want to ask them what it is if it matters to you. They also change the items each time so there is lots of variety. Also, if you sit down to eat instead of togo, they give you a complimentary bowl of soup. However, most people togo their food. Food is on the greasier side but it is considered Asian fast food. They also serve breakfast in the mornings! I would love to try that one day. This is your no frill no thrill Filipino buffet style. It is a destination for most Filipinos who live in the area. After 7pm, everything must go @ 1/2 off I was told. My buddy told me that lines usually goes out the door during this time so pick your battles! Hahaha :p Their prices are dirt cheap. Filipino breakfast starts at just under $3 and comes with free coffee or drink. I had their Kare -Kare which wasn't too bad. Their machadong baka however, was delicious and very tasty. I also ordered their mongo beans with ampalaya which is one of my favorite Filipino food. I'm a big veggie eater. Also, this place is huge and doesn't feel cramp. This is one of my go to when I'm craving for Filipino foods. I bought goat caldereta a week ago, drove back home, opened it up and lo and behold - almost 50% of what was supposed to be goat meat turned out to be nasty goat fat. I was really disappointed as this is one of my favorite Fil resto. The lady who served me probably thought she's doing their resto a favor by getting rid of the fats, hence, added income - no you're not, you're burning your business down to the ground and of course with it, goes your job as well. To the servers, put yourself in your customer's shoes and asks yourselves "Will I be happy if I get all these fats?"....and don't say you didn't know they were fats because of the sauce, what about when the meat was still raw, can't you distinguish fat from the meat?... and yet you guys still included them...it's not even meat with some fat on it - they were 100% fats....it was just pure and simple greed. This morning (12/19/22) around 7am I stopped by DJ's to pick up some lechon. As I waited for my turn to be helped, I used the restroom I noticed that the restroom was unisex. But let me tell you the restroom was in the most appalling condition!! As I walked into the private stall, I noticed the urinal was full of urine. The rim of the toilet in the private stall was equally dirty, with spots of sh-- clearly visible. Only one toilet seat liner was left, and even then I was hesitant to use it on the already soiled seat. Both trash containers were overflowing, and there was no paper towels to dry your hands!! It looked like the restroom had not been cleaned for several days!! When I pointed out the condition of the restroom to the server, all she could say was it's handled by someone else. Shouldn't the restroom be cleaned daily?? If the restroom is not cleaned frequently, I cringe to think whether the entire establishment is really clean!! A health inspector should be called out to witness what poor management this restaurant goes through!! read more
