    Pork Sisig + Lumpia
    Sheena C.

I didn't realize that this is the place I have been wanting to try out in Fairfield. They are at the Pista Sa Nayon festival today in a Vallejo. There was a long line so I went also as we were getting hungry and it was the closest to where we were located. They had two different lines which made the lines go by a little faster. They were friendly which is always a plus in my book! Here's what I got: Lumpia: Not all lumpia is created equally. I am very picky when it comes to where I get it. The only other lumpia place I swear by is Andrea's in Vallejo. Katna's lumpia is actually really good! Had that crunch I was looking for. Thin wrap and just the right amount of meat. Other lumpia's from people don't have that crunch. Will get this again! Pork Sisig: I don't ever regular Sisig. If I do, I'm also picky about that. I'm usually a Bangus Sisig type of gal. However, there have only been a handful of the regular ones I have liked. I had high hopes for this. It isn't your typical Sisig. It was saucy and had a spicy kick to it. I do like the pepper addition. However, I do think that the meat can be cut up even smaller. It also had too much fatty pieces to it which I don't eat. So I had to remove that. It was lacking flavor and tasted a little bland. It's not the kind I'm used to. It wasn't horrible, but I do think it could be better. Will pass on this next time. Last thing, the rice was cold and not warm at all. I know it's a busy day and a lot of people. But, I like to eat my food with warm rice. I would have expected them to have a rice cooker back there keeping it warm. That ruined the experience a little.

Not only a restaurant but a retail store too! bc of the items are from PI, the items are priced very $$$$

This is the only Filipino food in this area so you're gonna pay the price. It's next-door to Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield. Make sure you check the business hours because sometimes what's online is not accurate overall it's a good experience.

Here is what they charged me !!!

I was charged $78 for a half tray of pancit and there was a green metal thing like what they use at the grocery to tie the vegetables together in the pancit. The pancit was not even cooked we had to cook it again ....

Soup container. The plastic lid was securely on when it arrived so it steamed whats supposed to be crispy pork belly. Sad.

I'm not sure what's going on at this place but my order just left my hungry and confused. The Pork Sisig was completely cold as soon as it arrived in the same bowl, yhe so called garlic rice was stale and cold. Completely a waste. Neither was flavorful enough to even reheat and try to save. The lechon kawali was sent in a plastic container ment for soup and broth so it had completely steamed any crispness that might have existed before. It was the most bland lechon I have ever had in my entire life. The pork skewer was pretty good though. Thats what got them two stars. One and done visit for me.

Friendly staff and warm welcome. Came in for Halo-Halo and I asked if I can customize some toppings and I was told No. I've never had a place that serves Halo Halo no be able to customize. That was the first ding. When I got handed my order, it was already watery (which only usually happens a bit later when the ice melts and in the middle of eating it) so the consistency wasn't right. Also, not much variety of toppings as I had to search and dig for any beans which are my favorite and it was mainly big chunks of banana and nata de coco and a few jackfruit. The scoop of ice cream was so nominal it melted before I could throughly enjoy it. Overall, not worth the hefty price tag. But I had to try it to find out. Maybe you can give it a try and give it a shot yourself if you're ever craving Halo Halo.

Haven't been here in a while. Stopped by to order some food for the amazing nurses on base. Ordered Bicol express, sisig and kare-kare. Also ordered a couple trays for an upcoming event. They were so delicious. It takes me back to my childhood memories in my home country. Agnes took my order. She was friendly, helpful and so patient with me. I love that they make you feel at home. She's from Pampanga, the Philippines' culinary capital known for flavorful and yummy dishes. Place is small but perfect for take outs and catering. There are some grocery items also available. I highly recommend them.

It was my first time here. I got lucky, they serve really good food. Customer service was amazing. All their entrées very good taste. I ordered a bunch and I enjoyed each of them. The halo halo was so delicious. All the food and taste reminded me of back home. Rey good cooks and very enjoyable to talk too. Come check them out. 5 STARS.

    Pork Sisig - not impressed

When we arrived at the Filipino Island Fest in Alameda around dinner time, we could smell the yummy BBQ that came from Katna's Kitchen. There was an extremely long line. Thankfully, my daughter had been standing in line and was half way to the front of the line. It was still a long wait, and they were running out of certain dishes. By the time my daughter ordered, there was no more BBQ. We ended up ordering Sisig & Rice, Lumpia, and Lechon Kawali & Rice - not our first choice, we wanted the BBQ. And after all that waiting in line, we had to wait around 20 minutes for our food. We got one dish + the lumpia. Then we still had to wait because they said the rice would be another 30 minutes to finish cooking. Sigh! I get it! It was a big event, and there were a lot of people. They probably weren't prepared, and we got the bum end of the deal. The sisig was like adobo... not impressed by it at all. The lechon kawali was better but wasn't as crispy as it should have been. This was sadly my first experience with Katna's Kitchen. We saw them again at Manila Munchies in American Canyon. Smaller crowd so we decided to give them another try. We ordered the BBQ Pork with pancit. The food was better. Glad we got to try their BBQ. The customer service is good. The gal that took our order was nice. Our second visit to their vendor booth was definitely better than the first.

    Turon - 10/10! Sooo delicious!

Katna's Kitchen is a hidden gem in Fairfield that brings the heart and soul of the Philippines straight to your plate. What started as a humble pop-up has now grown into a cozy, sari-sari store-style eatery that lives up to its name. When you're here, you're literally eating at Katna's kitchen! She's usually there cooking in the back, too! The vibe is warm, welcoming, and full of Filipino hospitality. It's a small, family-run business that radiates love through every dish. Seating is limited both inside and out, but that just adds to the charm. You feel like you've been invited over to your auntie's house for a home-cooked meal. Definitely authentic Filipino comfort food at its best. The menu at their home base is even more expansive than what you'll find when they're at pop-up events like Foodieland. Think classic dishes like adobo, pancit, lumpia, kare-kare, and sinigang--all cooked with care and bursting with flavor. Every bite tastes like home! Don't leave without trying their halo-halo!! Hands down, my favorite dessert! It's a perfect balance of creamy, icy, sweet goodness that's incredibly refreshing and satisfying; esp on a hot day. They also cater for special occasions. Katna's Kitchen is open daily, and while seating is limited, it's absolutely worth the visit. Whether you're a longtime fan of Filipino cuisine or trying it for the first time, this place is a must-visit. Trust! Support local, eat well, and feel at home. Happy eating!

Food stand at Filipino Island Fest in Alameda
    Annabelle R.

Visited this food stand at the Filipino Island Fest in Alameda this past weekend. Spent at least an hour waiting in line, and 25 more minutes for the food to be ready (the wait times quoted by staff were way off). We ordered the lechon plate with pancit and a side of pork lumpia. Not our first or second choices, but that's all they had in stock around 5pm, three hours before the event ended. The food was made fresh, the pancit peppery with a nice mix of ingredients, the lechon with decent flavor but some pieces a bit tough, the lumpia pretty standard, crispy on the outside but a somewhat loose filling. All in all, the food was fine, but not worth the crazy wait.

Food - karekare was good! Sisig was meh. Turon was burnt dry. Friendly and fast service. Nice and neat area near airbase. Bibingka fresh and delicious.

meal 1 with dinaguan and Bicol express and 2. caldereta and beef tapa. Shanghai and vegetable lumpia, 1 chicken bbq 1 pork & mango shake.
    Nina M.

So went there last week with my bf and we were really excited to try their food since it looked so good on IG and the reviews were pretty good. I really wanted to order everything since there was so much to choose from. The staff were really friendly and even let me taste the food before buying. So from there since I did that I trusted every thing else was good but unfortunately it's wasn't. I ordered the beef tapa and it was savory and sweet to me and like I said I sampled it so I ordered it. I also, ordered the beef caldereta since it just came out and that was just ok. Oily but not really any flavor. My bf order the dinaguan that was oily than usual and also got the Bicol express that was ok to me but he enjoyed both. Which where my 2 stars are coming from. Then I ordered the Shanghai lumpia and I think they have a special flavor they make it and it wasn't for me either had only 2and also order the vegetable fried lumpia and the wrapper inside was fully cooked smh ‍ ordered the 1 pork bbq and 1 chicken bbq and they were both cold inside after I saw her heat it up the first time and then I told the lady that looked like that was running the place that the bbq was cold and she asked one of the staff to reheat it. Smh ‍ it should have been the right temperature the first place because I could've gotten sick being that it was cold PORK AND CHICKEN !! Then lastly I also ordered the mango slushie smh it was def a slush but the taste was off .. it didn't taste like mango and more like a powder flavor versus like a fresh mango from the pi if that's what's they were going for as flavor. Like I said I had high hopes for this place and was going to recommend this to my friends and family but after this experience I don't think so. We spent at least $80 on this meal and it's $80 we can't get back smh ‍ instead for dinner we went to concord to Isla to redeem our Filipino experience which was much better even tho the price was a bit higher but at least the food was GREAT tasting. Sorry, I really did want to come back here but not after what we both experienced. 1 star for the friendly staff and another star because at what my bf ordered he was good with it.

I was craving halo halo so I went here. I was excited to see they had a buko flavored one. I also got a kare kare. I usually like it made with oxtail. This one was pork I think, but the meat was really soft. the kare kare sauce was thick and had perfect peanut butter flavor. The guy at the cashier was nice. I would come here again. Theres no inside seating but there are two outdoor tables.

I had a trip planned and needed a meal prep service, so I decided to give Spicy Girl Meal Prep a try. Despite seeing some negative reviews, I thought it couldn't be that bad. Unfortunately, my experience was a total disappointment. I paid $205 for the service to be delivered and was very clear about when I needed the food by. However, the food was never delivered, and I was given the runaround when I tried to contact the company. They claimed that the food was not delivered because of the holiday, which was unacceptable. When I finally got a response from them, an assistant named Dana texted me to say that they were closed that day. This was after I had called repeatedly and left several messages. It was clear that they had no intention of delivering the food. At this point, I had to come up with another solution for my meal prep needs, which was a huge inconvenience. My wife called the company from a different phone number and was told that we would receive a refund. However, we never received any refund despite reaching out to them through email. In the end, I had to dispute the entire process with Venmo to get my money back. Overall, I had a terrible experience with Spicy Girl Meal Prep, and I would advise anyone to stay away from them. They are unprofessional, unreliable, and clearly do not care about their customers. Update: I find it outrageous that I had to resort to contacting several mutual friends on Instagram just to reach her. Finally, one of her friends came forward and told me that she had mentioned my experience to Jade. I was very clear with her that Jade was lying about the situation, and that I intended to leave a review about it a year later. It's interesting that Jade has just reached out to me with an invitation to have lunch and fix the situation, which seems shady and as if she's trying to cover herself. The truth is, she should have done this a year ago when I had a terrible experience.

That's exactly what we did, and it made the day so much more enjoyable. As huge fans of Thomas Keller, we started our morning at Bouchon Bakery before walking just around the corner to Burgers & Half Bottles, the casual burger spot we'd been hearing so much about. By noon there was already a line out the door, which is always a good sign! Fortunately, it's a fast-casual concept, so the line moved quickly and we had our food in no time. Picnic style tables outside or inside tables available. The restaurant has a fun, welcoming atmosphere with a full selection of wine and beer. They even have a charming draft beer station that adds to the overall vibe. Everything was spotless, from the dining area to the self-serve condiment station, where you can grab ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, and water. The staff was friendly, efficient, and happy to answer questions. We ordered the lobster roll, shoestring fries, and the fried chicken sandwich. The lobster roll was outstanding--packed with tender lobster in a rich, creamy dressing and topped with what tasted like pickled onions, adding the perfect bright, tangy finish. The shoestring fries were hot, crispy, and cooked to perfection. The real star of the meal, however, was the fried chicken sandwich. It was juicy, crispy, flavorful, and incredibly satisfying. It was easily our favorite dish of the day and one I would order again without hesitation. If you're a Thomas Keller fan--or simply looking for a delicious, casual lunch in downtown Napa--Burgers & Half Bottles is absolutely worth the visit. Great food, friendly service, a fun atmosphere, and the perfect stop before an afternoon of wine tastings. :) Spent about $35 pp with no drinks only water.

The anecdote on how the name was chosen...TK fondly remembers having burgers & sharing a half bottle of wine with an old friend way back in the day, & that memory has stuck. You order at the counter, get a number, & they call out your number when your order is ready. I recognized the tables & chairs from La Calenda, & found it oddly comforting. The staff are top notch. We made the drive from SF on the 4th of July specifically, because I'd gotten an email announcing that they were going to be serving wagyu hot dogs, just for the holiday. We arrived in time for the 2:00 World Cup game of France vs Paraguay. This was vital because hubs is a soccer head! But of course, they had sold out of the Wagyu hot dogs. The cashier let us down as nicely as he could, telling us they had opened with 40 Wagyu dogs, & they sold out almost immediately. 40 seems like a ridiculously low number for America's birthday, especially the 250th birthday, & especially considering the fact that it was advertised in advance. Disappointing of course, but not a dealbreaker. We went with 2 cheeseburgers & 2 fries. And a half bottle. It's in the name, after all. We landed a great table in the front patio perfectly situated between 2 of the big screen TV's (there's 6 total). Our order was ready in less than 10 minutes; fantastic considering how busy it was. Unfortunately, both our burgers were on the dry side, despite both being pink on the inside. In fairness, they didn't ask how we wanted them cooked when we ordered, nor did we specify. They were still tasty, but a great cheeseburger is a juicy one. The fries were perfect. We stayed for the entire game, & they not only were cool with that, they actually thanked us for hanging out so long. It was easy to forgive selling out of the Wagyu dogs, but a cheeseburger that isn't juicy? That's harder. 3 & 1/2 stars

Good barbecue is tough to find around here. And great barbecue? I've only had it once in Northern…read moreCalifornia. Until today. Pitmaster/Chef Michael has an amazing backstory. I actually stumbled across the Dirty Pit BBQ page on the Nextdoor app, where he had posted a video about an unhoused community member who needed a bike. Michael was reaching out to the community and using his platform to see if anyone had an old bike they were getting rid of, or even one to sell and he would buy it and then gift it to the man. Today, Michael told me that he saw the person just the other day, and someone came through with the bike. As I stood talking with him, enjoying my meal (more on that in a second), there was not one but two other people who were standing nearby. Michael offered both of them some food and a smile, saying he knows how hard it is out here. I don't know that I've seen that level of generosity ever at a food stand, and I'm here for it. The question, then, is Does the food measure up? And that's an easy one to answer. I was the third party in line at about 12:15 this afternoon, shortly after opening, so I was able to get a good look at what I was already smelling. No one got to the front before being offered a sample - a bite of tri-tip or a burnt end or an oxtail - which was a great way to try almost everything in one visit. Amazingly, there were zero misses, and everything on the menu was as delicious as Chef Michael described. I chose tri-tip, ribs, and burnt ends for my plate, with mac n cheese and beans as my sides (though I was also offered a sample of collard greens, as well), and I can tell you this: the biggest problem you're going to have is narrowing down your choices. The tri-tip is tender and flavorful, and the temperature was a very nice medium rare. The oxtails had a fantastic homemade blend of seasoning. I don't often order oxtails, but these had such a comfort-food quality that I immediately realized I've been missing out. The pork ribs were large, meaty, and perfectly seasoned. The burnt ends had an incredible glaze. I brought a bite of mac n cheese over to take a dip in the burnt end sauce and almost fell over, it was so good. The mac n cheese was exactly what you want it to be - a nice crust on top, and cheesy, gooey goodness all throughout. As for the beans and the collard greens: I can't remember ever having better beans or greens anywhere, ever, and that's after living in the South for over a decade. The greens were incredible - so often they're too salty or bitter, but I could eat a whole plate of these. And the beans were the most savory, hearty bbq beans you've ever seen. I've literally never been excited about bbq beans, because so often people either heat them up straight from a can, or cook them in a way that makes them taste like they're canned anyway. These beans were insane, and that in an of itself is kind of an insane thing to say about beans. All of that to say, this is competition-winning-level stuff here. And let's put this in context - at this point, Chef Michael has his meats and sides all kept in catering trays lined with foil, which would make it tricky for an all-day setup. But he's been selling out before anything gets too dry. I've been fortunate to be at the front of the proverbial line of a few of the best (Texas Monthly Top 50 - actual best!) bbq places in Texas before they blew up (Corkscrew in Spring when it was a trailer and a tent, Tejas in Tomball when it was a chocolate shop), as well as most of the famous spots, and I am completely confident in saying that if Chef Michael keeps up this level of smoking and cooking, we're looking at what could become the gold standard for NorCal bbq.
