First time here
Joe P.

It was my first time here. I got lucky, they serve really good food. Customer service was amazing. All their entrées very good taste. I ordered a bunch and I enjoyed each of them. The halo halo was so delicious. All the food and taste reminded me of back home. Rey good cooks and very enjoyable to talk too. Come check them out. 5 STARS.

Pork Sisig - not impressed
Darlene M.

When we arrived at the Filipino Island Fest in Alameda around dinner time, we could smell the yummy BBQ that came from Katna's Kitchen. There was an extremely long line. Thankfully, my daughter had been standing in line and was half way to the front of the line. It was still a long wait, and they were running out of certain dishes. By the time my daughter ordered, there was no more BBQ. We ended up ordering Sisig & Rice, Lumpia, and Lechon Kawali & Rice - not our first choice, we wanted the BBQ. And after all that waiting in line, we had to wait around 20 minutes for our food. We got one dish + the lumpia. Then we still had to wait because they said the rice would be another 30 minutes to finish cooking. Sigh! I get it! It was a big event, and there were a lot of people. They probably weren't prepared, and we got the bum end of the deal. The sisig was like adobo... not impressed by it at all. The lechon kawali was better but wasn't as crispy as it should have been. This was sadly my first experience with Katna's Kitchen. We saw them again at Manila Munchies in American Canyon. Smaller crowd so we decided to give them another try. We ordered the BBQ Pork with pancit. The food was better. Glad we got to try their BBQ. The customer service is good. The gal that took our order was nice. Our second visit to their vendor booth was definitely better than the first.

meal 1 with dinaguan and Bicol express and 2. caldereta and beef tapa. Shanghai and vegetable lumpia, 1 chicken bbq 1 pork & mango shake.

So went there last week with my bf and we were really excited to try their food since it looked so good on IG and the reviews were pretty good. I really wanted to order everything since there was so much to choose from. The staff were really friendly and even let me taste the food before buying. So from there since I did that I trusted every thing else was good but unfortunately it's wasn't. I ordered the beef tapa and it was savory and sweet to me and like I said I sampled it so I ordered it. I also, ordered the beef caldereta since it just came out and that was just ok. Oily but not really any flavor. My bf order the dinaguan that was oily than usual and also got the Bicol express that was ok to me but he enjoyed both. Which where my 2 stars are coming from. Then I ordered the Shanghai lumpia and I think they have a special flavor they make it and it wasn't for me either had only 2and also order the vegetable fried lumpia and the wrapper inside was fully cooked smh ‍ ordered the 1 pork bbq and 1 chicken bbq and they were both cold inside after I saw her heat it up the first time and then I told the lady that looked like that was running the place that the bbq was cold and she asked one of the staff to reheat it. Smh ‍ it should have been the right temperature the first place because I could've gotten sick being that it was cold PORK AND CHICKEN !! Then lastly I also ordered the mango slushie smh it was def a slush but the taste was off .. it didn't taste like mango and more like a powder flavor versus like a fresh mango from the pi if that's what's they were going for as flavor. Like I said I had high hopes for this place and was going to recommend this to my friends and family but after this experience I don't think so. We spent at least $80 on this meal and it's $80 we can't get back smh ‍ instead for dinner we went to concord to Isla to redeem our Filipino experience which was much better even tho the price was a bit higher but at least the food was GREAT tasting. Sorry, I really did want to come back here but not after what we both experienced. 1 star for the friendly staff and another star because at what my bf ordered he was good with it.

Turon - 10/10! Sooo delicious!

Katna's Kitchen is a hidden gem in Fairfield that brings the heart and soul of the Philippines straight to your plate. What started as a humble pop-up has now grown into a cozy, sari-sari store-style eatery that lives up to its name. When you're here, you're literally eating at Katna's kitchen! She's usually there cooking in the back, too! The vibe is warm, welcoming, and full of Filipino hospitality. It's a small, family-run business that radiates love through every dish. Seating is limited both inside and out, but that just adds to the charm. You feel like you've been invited over to your auntie's house for a home-cooked meal. Definitely authentic Filipino comfort food at its best. The menu at their home base is even more expansive than what you'll find when they're at pop-up events like Foodieland. Think classic dishes like adobo, pancit, lumpia, kare-kare, and sinigang--all cooked with care and bursting with flavor. Every bite tastes like home! Don't leave without trying their halo-halo!! Hands down, my favorite dessert! It's a perfect balance of creamy, icy, sweet goodness that's incredibly refreshing and satisfying; esp on a hot day. They also cater for special occasions. Katna's Kitchen is open daily, and while seating is limited, it's absolutely worth the visit. Whether you're a longtime fan of Filipino cuisine or trying it for the first time, this place is a must-visit. Trust! Support local, eat well, and feel at home. Happy eating!

Food stand at Filipino Island Fest in Alameda
Annabelle R.

Visited this food stand at the Filipino Island Fest in Alameda this past weekend. Spent at least an hour waiting in line, and 25 more minutes for the food to be ready (the wait times quoted by staff were way off). We ordered the lechon plate with pancit and a side of pork lumpia. Not our first or second choices, but that's all they had in stock around 5pm, three hours before the event ended. The food was made fresh, the pancit peppery with a nice mix of ingredients, the lechon with decent flavor but some pieces a bit tough, the lumpia pretty standard, crispy on the outside but a somewhat loose filling. All in all, the food was fine, but not worth the crazy wait.

Food - karekare was good! Sisig was meh. Turon was burnt dry. Friendly and fast service. Nice and neat area near airbase. Bibingka fresh and delicious.

Buko Pandan Halo Halo

I was craving halo halo so I went here. I was excited to see they had a buko flavored one. I also got a kare kare. I usually like it made with oxtail. This one was pork I think, but the meat was really soft. the kare kare sauce was thick and had perfect peanut butter flavor. The guy at the cashier was nice. I would come here again. Theres no inside seating but there are two outdoor tables.

My husband and I tried the Filipino tamales and they are very good! They are a Pampanga staple. My husband mentioned his grandmother used to make these as a child. He says it taste just like grandma's or Lola's!

Just outside Travis AFB main entrance, this humble Filipino hole-in-the-wall store has a ton to offer! They have Filipino snacks, memorabilia/souvenirs, and awesome Filipino food! We had the Sinigang, Pinakbet, Adobong Pusit, Paksiw na Lechon, Chicken Adobo, and Pork Kilawin...and it didn't disappoint! The food was good and very delicious. My daughter is very particular when having her Sinigang and there are only a few places we go to outside of our home for Sinigang when we don't have it cooked at home, and this place was a thumbs up for her. On top of the regular Filipino dishes, they also have Filipino street food! We tried the Isaw and pork bituka and were pretty good too. The store owners are very friendly and helpful. We wil definitely be stopping by again next time we make a trip out to Travis.

Kare kare and Afritada

I stopped by for menudo, a Filipino dish, to go- it's great with toast bread and was absolutely delicious. The owner, Ms. Agnes, is friendly and helpful. Within the store is compact sari-sari store, carrying an assortment of canned products, and various items from the Philippines.

Fresh Bibingka! (Sorry only half by the time I remembered to take a photo). They sell

A hidden gem in Fairfield. They make fresh bibingka and puto bumbong. You can also choose from pork and chicken skewers, bistek, paksiw lechon, etc. We came to their store on a Sunday and they might have different options daily. They have lumpia and street food like fishball, okoy, all the yummy food that most of us miss from the Philippines. Freshly cooked!

Catering chop suey

Without a doubt, I always tell everyone that needs Filipino catering to consider ordering from Katnas Kitchen. We've been a patron of hers since 2019 when she was doing catering from her home (way before the food event days) and have always been pleased with all her dishes. When I heard that Katna finally found her brick and mortar I was beyond thrilled. She has a great selection of Filipino food options and on weekends the resturant does Filipino Street Food - fresh to order. One thing to keep in mind is that the location is kind of out of the way (in the shopping center next to TAFB) but I can assure you that when the breakfast and lunch rush hits... You've gotta get there for the food as soon as it hits those steamers because they go quick. The dining area is small but they've recently placed some tables on the outside to accommodate more people. The inside is clean and has a ton of dried food items and Filipino culture attire. My favorites to order from her catering is the oxtail kare kare (super tender), her pancit, and lumpia. I'm also a fan of her bistek, tocino, and all the street food offerings (kwek kwek is fire).

Oh yeah! This is…read morethe good stuff! Was going camping at the beach a few weeks ago and didn't want to smoke the ribs in the cold/wet. I had been hearing about Red Eye locally and thought I would give them a try. I ordered in advance - I had heard they sell out fast if you don't put in an advance order. Pick up took longer than seemed reasonable for an advance to go order, but zero complaints about the quality of the food! I got two racks of pork ribs and they were spectacular. The other stuff e saw them putting out looked really good too. I normally smoke my own meats, but it is great to have someone local that does such a good job. Now I have a place I can go to when I don't have time to do it myself. Everyone who tried them loved them- including a friend who was a chef in New Orleans. I think Red Eye are the best thing going around here for real BBQ (by a good measure). If you haven't tried them yet, get over there! You are in for a real treat!

While the food that I ordered (or at least got of what was available) was objectively delicious…read moreand seasoned wonderfully, my experience of ordering and waiting was dissapointing and overall ruined my lunch. *PS I ordered under the name Zed if you see this review. There was already quite a line by the time I came in around 12:40 and was eager to try everything after reading the amazing reviews. I decided to order all the cuts except for short rib (they were sold out) and the chicken. As I am placing my order, I see some miscommunication between the chef (Bob I believe) and the person who took my order, something about not following the inventory count of cuts available, potentially leading to over-orders. I prayed there would still be enough for what I ordered and stayed optimistic. About 10 minutes after ordering, I was told that the beef cheeks were sold out. I was okay with that as they refunded me immediately. 15 minutes later and I'm told that the spareribs are also sold out. At this point the only things available were the pork belly and jalapeno cheddar sausage. I still wanted to try the two that were still available, but was dissapointed in having to experience this. As for the food itself, to say the least it was very good. The pork belly was perfectly salted and simply melted in my mouth. The sausage was juicy, had a great snap to it, and had a perfect ratio of cheese to sausage. The jalapeno is subtle and doesn't punch you with spice, but the subtle hint of spice with each bite was addicting. The stand out for me would be their pickles. Korean pear, fresno chili, cucumber, and red onions made up the pickle mix. I loved the sweet n sour of the pear and couldn't stop eating it. The cornbread was also nice and fluffy. Would I come back to try this? 100%. Just from the pork belly and sausage, I can't wait to try the short rib/cheek/spareribs. I would recommend everyone who wants to try Red Eye to either PRE-ORDER or come early before they open, as I came ~40 minutes after opening and most of the meats were sold out. I wish there was a clearer tracking system of how many cuts were left, as placing an order only to be told AFTER ordering that stuff was already sold out is extremely frustrating. Maybe having 1 more person would also help as well, as I waited close to 30 minutes for my order. I will update this review after another attempt, as this could have simply been an off day.

PLEASE SEE ALL SCREEN SHOTS AFTER READING!!!…read more I have been meaning to write this review for a while now. I had a trip planned and needed a meal prep service, so I decided to give Spicy Girl Meal Prep a try. Despite seeing some negative reviews, I thought it couldn't be that bad. Unfortunately, my experience was a total disappointment. I paid $205 for the service to be delivered and was very clear about when I needed the food by. However, the food was never delivered, and I was given the runaround when I tried to contact the company. They claimed that the food was not delivered because of the holiday, which was unacceptable. When I finally got a response from them, an assistant named Dana texted me to say that they were closed that day. This was after I had called repeatedly and left several messages. It was clear that they had no intention of delivering the food. At this point, I had to come up with another solution for my meal prep needs, which was a huge inconvenience. My wife called the company from a different phone number and was told that we would receive a refund. However, we never received any refund despite reaching out to them through email. In the end, I had to dispute the entire process with Venmo to get my money back. Overall, I had a terrible experience with Spicy Girl Meal Prep, and I would advise anyone to stay away from them. They are unprofessional, unreliable, and clearly do not care about their customers. Update: I find it outrageous that I had to resort to contacting several mutual friends on Instagram just to reach her. Finally, one of her friends came forward and told me that she had mentioned my experience to Jade. I was very clear with her that Jade was lying about the situation, and that I intended to leave a review about it a year later. It's interesting that Jade has just reached out to me with an invitation to have lunch and fix the situation, which seems shady and as if she's trying to cover herself. The truth is, she should have done this a year ago when I had a terrible experience.

I shared the spicy chicken sandwich as well as the Wagyu cheeseburger with fries and both were pretty solid. Both were juicy in their own right and I did enjoy the no frills ambience. There are TVs showcasing sports, so it's a very casual, laid-back environment. When you arrive, you order at the counter and receive a buzzer. At this point, you can find seating, get some water and some ketchup. I do enjoy the low-key nature of this place, but it's nice to be able to see the cooking staff working away in a professional, very organized chaos kind of way. I actually stumbled across the Dirty Pit BBQ page on the Nextdoor app, where he had posted a video about an unhoused community member who needed a bike. Michael was reaching out to the community and using his platform to see if anyone had an old bike they were getting rid of, or even one to sell and he would buy it and then gift it to the man. Today, Michael told me that he saw the person just the other day, and someone came through with the bike. As I stood talking with him, enjoying my meal (more on that in a second), there was not one but two other people who were standing nearby. Michael offered both of them some food and a smile, saying he knows how hard it is out here. I don't know that I've seen that level of generosity ever at a food stand, and I'm here for it. The question, then, is Does the food measure up? And that's an easy one to answer. I was the third party in line at about 12:15 this afternoon, shortly after opening, so I was able to get a good look at what I was already smelling. No one got to the front before being offered a sample - a bite of tri-tip or a burnt end or an oxtail - which was a great way to try almost everything in one visit. Amazingly, there were zero misses, and everything on the menu was as delicious as Chef Michael described. I chose tri-tip, ribs, and burnt ends for my plate, with mac n cheese and beans as my sides (though I was also offered a sample of collard greens, as well), and I can tell you this: the biggest problem you're going to have is narrowing down your choices. The tri-tip is tender and flavorful, and the temperature was a very nice medium rare. The oxtails had a fantastic homemade blend of seasoning. I don't often order oxtails, but these had such a comfort-food quality that I immediately realized I've been missing out. The pork ribs were large, meaty, and perfectly seasoned. The burnt ends had an incredible glaze. I brought a bite of mac n cheese over to take a dip in the burnt end sauce and almost fell over, it was so good. The mac n cheese was exactly what you want it to be - a nice crust on top, and cheesy, gooey goodness all throughout. As for the beans and the collard greens: I can't remember ever having better beans or greens anywhere, ever, and that's after living in the South for over a decade. The greens were incredible - so often they're too salty or bitter, but I could eat a whole plate of these. And the beans were the most savory, hearty bbq beans you've ever seen. I've literally never been excited about bbq beans, because so often people either heat them up straight from a can, or cook them in a way that makes them taste like they're canned anyway. These beans were insane, and that in an of itself is kind of an insane thing to say about beans. All of that to say, this is competition-winning-level stuff here. And let's put this in context - at this point, Chef Michael has his meats and sides all kept in catering trays lined with foil, which would make it tricky for an all-day setup. But he's been selling out before anything gets too dry. I've been fortunate to be at the front of the proverbial line of a few of the best (Texas Monthly Top 50 - actual best!) bbq places in Texas before they blew up (Corkscrew in Spring when it was a trailer and a tent, Tejas in Tomball when it was a chocolate shop), as well as most of the famous spots, and I am completely confident in saying that if Chef Michael keeps up this level of smoking and cooking, we're looking at what could become the gold standard for NorCal bbq.
