I first heard about this place on social media when a few prominent food bloggers reviewed this spot and said their wings were the best wings outside of the legendary wing spot located in San Francisco. So I watched the videos and saw the pictures and I was truly excited to try them out. Well Mothers Day rolled around this year and I needed to bring an appetizer to my mothers party we were having that day in American Canyon & the idea of finally trying out their legendary dish was my entire focus. Driving down from Sacramento to get this dish wasn't the easiest of drives on a holiday but I was determined. I called my order in and as the saying goes,the worst the service the better the food-well I was pretty sure my food was going to be legendary based on that phone call. I ended up ordering both the Garlic Sauce Wings($15.95) and the Salt & Pepper Wings($15.95) This restaurant shares a decent sized parking lot with multiple tenants-so parking is not an issue.The neighborhood isn't the best part of Vallejo but I haven't had any issues yet with car security during my visits. When I arrived the restaurant was pretty busy but I noticed a worker had a full table that was full just for To-Go orders and I walked up to her and she handed me my receipt so I could go up to the cashier and pay. 5 minutes later I was in my car totally engrossed with the smell of this amazing chicken. I consider myself a true chicken wing expert and when I say these wings were pure flavor bliss-I truly mean it. The garlic sauce wings were a mix of sweet and savory and garlic with a slight spice-a wet wing experience that makes my mouth water just thinking back on. The salt and pepper wings were perfectly seasoned and a bite of that wing paired with the onion and Jalapeno toppings that come with the dish,can only be described as pure excellence. The chef truly has mastered the recipe and cooking technique on both of these dishes. Fun fact-due to various events in my life,I've had to drive to the Bay Area a few times since Mothers Day-I've been to this restaurant three times now in less than a week-I would say the love affair with this restaurant is burning quite hot at the moment. read more

Unfortunately for me, the wings were actually really good. Now I got to come back for it. They're super busy because they blew up on social media for their garlic sauce chicken wings. To be fair, I've never had San Tung's wings before. Now I have to try to compare them. Family owned so if you come late, they're pretty backordered from dine in, but primarily takeout it seems. The sauce is soy sauce based - salty goodness. Wish there was actually some heat (there are chili peppers, but not spicy at all). Felt like it was more decorative since it didn't add any flavor... Onions are great, wish there were more as well. Rice is charged per person, so they just gave us a bowl - presumably you can refill? We also tried the honey walnut prawns, which were okay. Not a ton of shrimp but reasonably priced. Leaned more on the tangy mayo side than sweet, would probably try something different next time instead to accompany the wings. read more

We had been hearing about this spot from our friends in Vallejo for a while--they always rave about the garlic soy wings and even say they're better than San Tung in San Francisco. On top of that, former Golden State Warriors player Festus Ezeli has been here and said he loved the wings, so we had to check it out while we were in the area. When we got there, it was already busy, but we were glad we were able to get a table right away. Good thing we came when we did, because a wait started forming shortly after. We did have to wait a bit for our food, but it was understandable--they had a steady flow of call-in and DoorDash orders going out. We ordered the garlic soy wings, salt and pepper fish, and shrimp fried rice. First off, the shrimp fried rice actually had real, good-sized shrimp--not those tiny ones you sometimes get--which we really appreciated. The wings were flavor town: crispy, packed with flavor, and super satisfying. Even though you can see peppers in the dish, there wasn't really a spicy kick, which is different from San Tung, where there's usually a slight heat. That said, even without the spice, these wings absolutely live up to the hype. The salt and pepper fish was also a standout--crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. 3 Star has become a local favorite in town. It specializes in Chinese and Filipino cuisine. Nothing fancy but some foods that you might eat in Filipino and or Chinese homes. I know because I am both Filipino and Chinese as well as skilled in the kitchen. My father and brother come here quite often so it's a rare occasion for me but I wanted a soup that my dad orders. The beef stew noodle soup. It's a large portion with a tasty broth and lots of vegetables and even bok choy. My only thing is normally the meat is cooked extremely tender but not quite in this case. I went with the garlic sauce wings, salt & pepper wings, and green beans. The wings were pretty good, especially the garlic sauce wings. It was crispy, sticky, and sweet just like the Dry Fried Wings from San Tung. With that being said, I felt like the flavor isn't as good and it was a tad bit too salty in my opinion. What I can say is if you order an item that is going to take some time you may want to call ahead so they can get that started for you. We ordered a steamed fish and although we were warned it would take about 20-30 minutes, we did not think they would make use wait for the rest of our food as well. We ordered both their saucy garlic wings and their dry garlic wings and they brough the saucy wings out first. Alone. Then about 10 minutes later brough the garlic wings out. At that point we asked if they could bring the steamed rice we also ordered because were we really getting one item at a time?!?!?!? Then another 10 minutes later came out house chow mein. Then 10 minutes after that came our steamed whole fish and tofu and shrimp dish. I wish we had been given the choice to have items come all together or have majority of our items come out and the steamed fish come last. As that is what took so long. Then they have you grab your own to go boxes and bags. I ordered 2 saucy garlic wings to go so my mom could take one home and I could take some home to my son. Bill came out to like $160, so not bad. My mom went to the restaurant in SF that these wings are supposed to be comparable to and she says hands down these are the best. The young man was nice, but they only had two people waiting on tables and doing to-go orders. They've got to hire more staff. Until then, I might not visit. It didn't take long for the food to arrive to the table. The salt-and-pepper chicken was super salty. I won't order that again. The skin was super crunchy. If I make it back, I'll try the regular chicken. I needed hella water. The house fried rice was okay. Nothing special about it. It was plain. I put it in the chicken sauce I had, and it was much better. The garlic string beans were great when paired with those onions. They were crispy when you bit into them. I love those. The garlic sauce chicken was the best thing I had there. If I had to order from there, I would get that alone. It would be a great serving size for two folks. We came to 3 Star Restaurant just before 7pm for their hyped Garlic Sauce Chicken Wings. The place was packed and a madhouse! No one was available to greet us and seat us as they were so busy with all the takeout, so we just found our own table and groaned our own menus. There was one lady working all the take out orders and one lady working the dine in customers. We waited just over 20 minutes before our order was taken. I did try to wave the waitress down to take our order and was told that we will have to wait and she eventually came back. The food came out relatively fast once our order was taken (a lot faster than waiting to place our order). New tables, LEGO decor all over their walls, it's inviting and their service is so nice! I did a girls day with my kids and they even said that the waitress was so nice! We ordered the garlic fried chicken (of course), egg drop soup, and their lunch bangus with eggs, rice, and tomatoes. We all shared our meals and my pickiest of picky daughters really loved their egg drop soup. One thing I dislike is to hop on Yelp seeing old menu offerings and pricing. So I went ahead and got an updated menu with today's pricing.. I came here to find out what all the hype is regarding these social media influencers and individuals posting about their garlic crispy wings being better than San Tung ( never tried) claiming that the garlic crispy wings are a must-try 10/10...As per usual I cannot trust other people's opinions but to each its own.. After waiting a couple of months, I finally gave them a shot, but I was left feeling disappointed. The wings were just mediocre; there was nothing remarkable about them. I've definitely had better wings before. The flavor was just okay--not bad, but nothing to brag or make a video about basic...I wouldn't come back for more and if they're free ok maybe just eat 1. Price wise overpriced for what it is. Then, I decided to sample the chicken and chow mein. Let me tell you, the chicken chow mein was incredibly bland very disappointing when I took my first bite. I've had much better chow mein in the past. The noodles were thick and overly soft, almost like they were overcooked, and the taste was lacking. Panda Express taste better in texture and flavor. I won't be returning, but I'm glad I tried it to understand what the fuss was all about, but now I know Basic garlic Crispy wings plus bland chicken chow mein was $36. 3 Star? More like 5 Stars!! Like many other reviews probably mention--but it needs to be said again--DO NOT SLEEP ON THE GARLIC SAUCE WINGS!! They are an absolute must-order!! I've had the famous San Tung wings in SF, and honestly, these give them a serious run for their money... without the long wait times and with much better service/family-friendly environment. Speaking of service, this is one of those rare Chinese restaurants that nails both great food and great hospitality. The staff was friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming--easily 5-star service. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Bonus points for the decor: The space is decorated with Lego art throughout the restaurant, which turns out to be the owner's personal hobby. We arrived around noon and found a long line of customers waiting to pay or place to-go orders. After flagging down a staff member, we were seated, but had to wave him down again when we were ready to order. We ordered the wonton soup, garlic wings, beef chow mein, garlic string beans, and chicken potstickers. The string beans were disappointing. It was soft, lacking any crunch, and tasted like they weren't fresh. The wonton soup was just okay, with very little filling in the wontons. Since chow fun wasn't available, we opted for the beef chow mein, which turned out to be quite bland. My kids enjoyed the chicken potstickers and they had good flavor, though they could have been crispier. Most of the dishes arrived fairly quickly, but we waited an additional 10-15 minutes for the wings. When they finally came out, they were piping hot and easily the highlight of the meal. They were crispy, juicy, slightly sweet, with a subtle kick. The restaurant got quite busy, and it seemed like there was only one person handling the floor. Service felt stretched. We had to ask twice just to get water, and no one checked back in or offered refills. I personally still prefer San Tung in the Bay Area. I'm not sure this place is worth a return visit just for their wings. read more

We've been coming here for almost as long as they've been in business -- back when it was a quiet, low-key spot for Chinese and Filipino comfort food. Now? It's a full-on buzz, thanks to features from Festus Ezeli, Grub with Mike, eatwithsie, Aiden Hymowitz, and more. And rightfully so -- because this place is known for their garlic sauce chicken wings, which are often compared to San Tung. If you know San Tung, you know that's not a light comparison -- it's basically a badge of honor. And honestly? They hold their own. With all that exposure, it's been a blessing and a curse. The demand is real, which means long wait times for both takeout and dine-in. But despite the chaos, Mandy (the owner) still greets guests with warmth and a genuine smile, and her small but mighty team works hard to keep things moving while maintaining quality. We lucked out this visit and got seated pretty quickly. Drinks came out fast, and we were ready to order. We came in craving their salt and pepper pork chops (don't sleep on these -- perfectly seasoned with jalapeños and onions, and yes, eat the jalapeños with the chops), but they were sold out. Pain. So we pivoted to the salt and pepper fish, and honestly, no regrets. It's coated in a panko-style breading, making it lighter than the usual batter, but still packed with flavor -- very similar profile to the pork chops. We also ordered the roast duck over rice, one of our go-tos that saves us a drive to Oakland or the City when the craving hits. And the pan-fried noodles were just okay -- mostly because we're not the biggest fans of the noodle type, but it still got the job done. Even with a takeout line out the door and a packed dining room on a weekday night, the food and service didn't miss a beat. That says everything.
