Who knew getting a key made could be such an *ACE* of an experience? I popped into Biedermann's Ace Hardware to take care of some key business--literally--and walked out with a freshly cut key *AND* some delicious popcorn. Double win! But wait, the plot thickens. Once I got home, I thought my key ring of all the other keys had pulled a disappearing act. Cue panic. I searched high, low, and everywhere in between (read: the depths of my car seats). Meanwhile, the entire Ace squad was on their walkie talkies, mobilizing like a key-finding SWAT team. Not once did anyone make me feel like a bother--no side-eye, no sighs, just pure helpfulness. Turns out, the keys were just playing hide-and-seek in the car. Crisis averted! The store itself? Clean, welcoming, and packed with EVERYTHING. Need a bird feeder? Check. How about a candle that smells like heaven? They've got it. Wind chimes to add a little ~zen~ to your backyard? You bet. And of course, all the hardware essentials--wrenches, hammers, nails...you name it, Ace has your back, honey! This store continues to disappoint ... in every way possible. I ordered a grill on November 29, 2024 and was finally forced to return the grill over a month later...never once able to use it. The grill was delayed many times and assembled incorrectly when finally delivered. This store took no responsibility for this disaster, only gave me excuses. Now I am left with a ACE gift card that I have no desire to use any more, NO grill, and a ruined Christmas. read more

Love love love this store! We are building in the area and have been here on multiple occasions. The staff is super friendly and helpful. They have a huge selection. Our Harley broke down and we were able to get tools to fix it. We need building supplies, special screws, bolts, etc. they have them. We love having the store so conveniently located. read more

An appalling lack of customer service! I waited at a counter for the chainsaw repair guy to show and the fat ass at the gun counter didn't move or offer to help until I asked if anyone was working chainsaws. Then he elected to remain seated and call via radio for someone else. No offer of "hey I'll help out until they get here" or similar.... Then, most appalling of all, an elderly customer walks up to the checkout counter only to have the woman standing there tell him "one of these two ladies will check you out" and she walked away. No explanation as to why, just stepped out and walked away. Piss poor service if I've ever seen it and not what I expect from Fredericksburg locals. read more

Believable customer service after reading other reviews. Please at least cull the herd or train staff. I called before driving from Kerrville to make sure that they had in stock a large cast grill for the big green egg. Theresa went and checked and assured me that they indeed did have the large grill. When I got there, nope, they had a medium. I will not return. Again, worst customer service. Please train your staff, or not, it won't affect my shopping experience. Customer service was awful. I just needed help finding a plumbing part. No one was in the department. -- I don't expect someone to be at my beckon call. I did proceed up to the checkout counter to ask if they could send someone to plumbing. One woman said she would send a plumbing salesman over. Another lady directed me to the aisle I had already been down several times. I had the part in my hand. She saw it was a faucet connector and told me that it was on the right hand side of the aisle. -- The one I had already been down several times. -- I am not helpless but sometimes a woman just needs a little guidance in hardware and plumbing. When I turned to try again - by myself - the woman behind the counter yells out behind me YOUR WELCOME!! -- Really ??? Directing me down the Aisle that says Plumbing - after I had already told them I had tried to find it. -- Hence, the reason I am at the desk asking for help. I slowly went up and down the aisle again looking slowly. Couldn't find it. I am not saying that it wasn't there. But, I could not find it. I am a Frederickslburg resident. I have NEVER been to a store that does business the way this one does! First, it is clean, well organized and stocks a wide variety of supplies...as well as fantastic gifts for purchase! I went in and bought a doorknob, but having never replaced one on my own I asked for some " tips." The young man (BILLYBOB) gave me a complete in-service on it. I was amazed at how much time he took explaining it all to me. What a gentleman! I called back the next day and spoke to him about additional concerns I was having regarding the job of replacing the doorknob. He listened to my concerns and went beyond the call of service to help me. As a widow I have become a " do it your-selfer"... but, I am still learning. I feel confident this is my "go to" store from now on. What great customer service the entire store displays. All the employees seem energetic and actually WANT you there as a customer. read more

Bought a new Stihl trimmer. Let them upsell me and went with the extended warranty. Second time I used the trimmer the string pull jammed up. Took it in stopped in twice to check on progress as I never received a phone call. Three weeks after I left it, I went in. It had been repaired for a week and a half. No phone call. Asked for them to have mgr to call me. Three days later still no phone call. Picked it up and they tried to tell me the part wasn't covered because it had to have been abused. They ended up eating the charge of $28, but I've come to expect a lot more from Biedermann's. Guess my ninth Stihl is my last. read more

I took a lawnmower in for repair 6 weeks ago and a chainsaw in 2 weeks ago. I was told it would be about a week on the mower. After 2 weeks and no call, I stopped by and it hadn't been touched. I checked every week thereafter and was always told they would get right on it the next day which was a lie. The mower was always sitting outside right were I had left it the first day getting rained on twice. Today I went to retrieve my mower and chainsaw, although neither was repaired. They said they couldn't repair the mower because they didn't know the model number for the cable and couldn't repair the chainsaw because the spring assembly for the pull cord was no longer made. That never was the problem with the saw in the first place. It would start just fine but, wouldn't stay running. Evidently, they broke the starter assembly because it was working just fine when I brought it in. The icing on the cake was I was charged $28.50 for them to look at my mower and tear up my saw. The saw was not even put back together in one piece. Also, the cable on the mower was only a minor complaint and had nothing to do with the mower not starting. In addition to the starting problem, I had asked for the self-propel to be fixed, the blade sharpened and the oil changed, none of which was done. It's as if they find one thing they claim they can't repair as an excuse to do nothing and collect a "for nothing fee". Too bad the small engine repair department was not up to par with the rest of the store. I had liked trading with these people as they were always friendly and helpful. I won't be back. read more

This is what a local hardware store should be. I've always been hesitant to say much more than "no thanks" when someone asks "can I help you". At big box stores, I prefer my chances of finding an item myself. Not so at Biederman's ACE, these people know the store inside and out and save me boatloads of time by taking me right to an item. That's handy and all but let me tell you why I really shop here every chance I get. I recently purchased a few tubes of sealant for a project that I had been working on for a couple of weeks. The first tube worked great, just like I hoped. However the material in several other tubes were much thicker and nearly impossible to get out. Checking the batch numbers on the tubes, I realized the bad tubes all had the same batch number. I took the tubes back to the store and a clerk quickly took down the information about my situation and called a manager. I was a little surprised at this because I was primarily interested in letting them know they should remove the offending batch number from the shelves. I didn't think a manager needed to be involved in that. What happened next was why I shop at Ace as much as possible. The manager came over, took a minute to hear my concern and then told the clerk to refund my money for all the bad tubes (even though I didn't have the receipt because I bought them over a several week period) and give me the employee discount on any new tubes I purchased, just to make up for the hassle. WHAT!?!? Who does that in business anymore? Acknowledging that you've inconvenienced a customer and then going further to help ease the frustration. Ace IS THE place for my hardware money. Will never shop there again! Received 2 coupons in the mail and one states it excludes certain items, but the other was like a gift card and they would not accept. They also would not give the military discount, stating it had to do with the company manufacturing the item I was purchasing. Really?? Told them Bass Pro would give the discount, but they were out of the item. Claimed they were not supposed to and could get in trouble. Called the home office and they said it was up to the owners as far as the discounts go! So glad I did not vote for him yesterday and he will not get my vote in the runoff!!!! read more

I've been in to Biedermann's quite a number of times over the past year as we remodeled an old home in Fredericksburg. The folks there are very knowledgeable and helpful - any topic from paint to fasteners to tools. This also includes a couple of custom orders, where they worked hard to match vintage hardware. They may not have a large selection of a particular item type, but they always seem to have the "right" one, so it doesn't matter. Prices are fair, service is great, selection is right. That's all I need. read more
