My husband and my daughter were just there this afternoon to buy a cross training shoes. I commend the guy who always assist us but the one's on the front (cashiers) both are so mean to me and my daughter. They would say we cut the line. I don't get it because there's no one at the back during that time. And one member would literally frown at me, for what? We were just customers wanting to buy a pair of shoes for a gift to my husband this Christmas. I just keep my cool actually but not on Yelp/ Social Media. Those people should not be on the front as customer service. They should be replace by someone considerate enough on how to handle 2 ladies who don't know where the line is. Came here for snow bibs and found one. Went to the dressing room and of course an employee has to open it bc it has a code. No problem at all. there was a gentleman by the dressing room but he was helping a lady w duffle bags. I was waiting for them to finish talking so I can ask to open the dressing room. I said "Excuse me" and he didn't let me finish my sentence. he cut me off and was like "yeah I know" and told me to wait in a rude tone. The lady kept asking to look at more duffle bags so whenever she would examine them there was down time to where he could easily gotten down (keep in mind he was like four steps up) and put in the code to let me in while the other lady was busy looking at the duffle bags. I stood by the door trying to be patient and wait on him. I thought him just standing doing nothing and just waiting on the lady to finish examining the duffle bags was ridiculous so I asked another employee. As small as this situation is/was it put a bad image on this store. If you're not happy where you work at go find another job. Simple as that. read more

I normally stop in at Big 5 for one of 2 reason Snow boarding gear and Gun gear. This day I came for both. Walked in was greated by the lady at the front walked to the Snowboarding gear as 3 employees were unpacking items and packing items. I saw a few boards nicely priced tried to get in and look but there was no room I was trying to say excuse me but I guess the discussion of sex and how to get laid with a girl was more important then to help a customer. I walked to the other side of the store where the guns and ammo is located. No one came to help I looked at the prices for about 8-10 minutes still no one came and helped or looked my way. I walked the store saw a total of about 8 employees and 5 customers. I left and was thanked and to please come again. The female manager here is rude as hell. First tried talking to her on the phone and was given the biggest attitude ever. She didnt seem to care to help AT ALL. Just because she would have to do a little extra work to help a customer, she pretty much disregarded my issue. Went in to try and do a return and was given a "no return no exceptions" attitude. Came here for Nike apparel and they have a lot of one size. The selection for other sizes is sparse. They do however have a lot of things for sale, you just have to get lucky with size. Came here looking for arm sleeves. Looked around a few minutes but couldn't find it anywhere. There weren't that many staff members around either to help, just a lot of people. Found a guy in the front looking down at some papers who seemed like he worked there. I asked about arm sleeves and he said "yeah, they're right here" pointing down under his stack of papers into the clear cabinet under him. No wonder I couldn't find them! Check this place out for athletic shoes I went here as a child in the '80s and '90s with my parents to buy sporting goods and equipment. Once the Sports Authority opened in the same shopping center in the late '90s, I stopped going to Big 5 for several years. I have returned recently when the store has a sale on shoes. The selection is not very good, but the prices are great if you find a pair that you like. I always check here before looking at other merchants for shoes. The staff are also very helpful and try hard to help customers. read more

I went to this store in spite of the negative reviews because it is close to where I work. I honestly did not find the employees rude nor unattentive. I shopped in three different departments, and was greeted by at least one associate in each department. Bought a Mitty Might that has a one year warranty but it doesn't cover shipping so I have to pay for it. The customer service rep suggested I exchange it through the retail store I bought it from because they have a program for cases like this. Called Big 5 and manager can't exchange without a receipt. Come on It's a $15 and still under warranty. Didn't even get to use it because the handle broke off when I was about to set it up. The only problem was the piece rolled off and I can't find it. Lots of stores out there that have hassle free returns and exchanges. Make sure you keep your receipts if you buy from Big 5. read more

I went to this Big 5 location at E H st, Chula Vista to check out their sale for a bipod, and a Barska spotting scope (August 23, 2013 @ 1245 am). I got to the counter and 10 minutes later came a lady obviously still snacking on something because she was still munching when she got in front of me. I asked to look at the bipod and she handed them to me. I asked if they have the adapter for a picatinny rail and that is when she started to give me the "you are a bother to me, go away" attitude. Then I asked for the Barska spotting scope, and I asked to see the the case and she was still giving me the attitude. Then finally, I could not stand it anymore and I asked if she is okay. She answered "I'm fine" without even looking at me, staring at something behind my right shoulder. I have to get out of the situation because I feel like I owe her a favor by asking to see the merchandise, and I am getting pissed off!!!. I walked away from her and I asked the other employees to see the store manager so that I can file a complain there and then, but much to my surprise........ SHE WAS THE STORE MANAGER!!!!!!. LOL!!! Holy Crap!!! That is why this place is riddled with one and two star reviews!!! Their crew learns from their leader. I would have given this place a ZERO star if that was an option. I like Big Fives merchandise and great sales. However, I live in Bonita and kick myself whenever I go into the Chula Vista Big Five on East H Street. It is the worst service anywhere! I have never written a review on a store before but after today's visit to this store - I had to write. The female manager (who I won't be so mean as to name) was rude and absolutely did nothing to try to help. Consistently I find sales staff impossible to locate on the floor, sales people with zero product knowledge, and absolutely no customer service niceties. It surprises me that the regional manager (whose other stores reflect knowledge and service), allows this store to be such a disaster. I suggest firing everyone (and CERTAINLY the managers there) and starting over. I will continue to shop at Big Five but NEVER again in this store. read more

The worst costumer service EVER! Took my Husband to buy work boots and waited forever to get assistance. Then they didn't even have his size. Store was hot and smelly they must not believe in turning on there AC in the middle of a summer heat wave. I started getting anxiety due to the store being so hot and small so much clutter everywhere. Employees just standing there like if they were melting or suffering from heat exhaustion. A female manager literally scolded more like belittled a male employee right in front of us and that was awkward and embarrassing. Then I made the mistake to ask her for help on calling another big5 store to check on a size for us, she straight ignored me and walked away. So yeah horrible experience shopping there. Avoid this store if you can. Left and went to Dick's Sporting Goods it was cool and a lot cleaner and employees seem a lot more pleasant they don't ignore you and or walk away when you ask them a question or need assistance. read more
