Just a regular big 5 sporting goods. They have great products but it kind of messy usually. Came to get some supplies for my trip to NYC. Like hand warmers and beanies. The hand warmers worked wonderfully but they were just scattered all over the place. Maybe better organization and better customer service and it would be a way better experience. I walk in and 2 out of 3 employees are announcing loud and clear that they are clocking out for lunch. One of the employees screams loud and clear to another employee in the back that he better have her lunch ready. Very unprofessional. Big 5 in Downey is alright with me. The store is PACKED with stuff. PACKED. I have yet to be in a situation where I'm unable to find what I need and it's usually on sale. Because of the large surplus of inventory, the place can look a little disorganized and discombobulated - but fear not, you will find what you need. They have the best deals on shoes, hands down. That said, the brand names aren't the greatest - lots of FILA and some I've never heard of - which is why they are so affordable. This is my go to sporting goods store. read more

Store is small, crowded, and has a rude cashier. They are also having a sidewalk sale right now but are lying about the prices. EVERY single item I went to pay for during the sale was DOUBLE the sale price it was advertised for on the racks outside. When I brought this up to the manager he had the audacity to tell me that it was other customers who moved the clothes to the other racks. Don't get me wrong, that does happen. However, if every single item of that style and shape is on the same exact rack, I highly doubt that was because a customer moved the same entire stock over to the wrong rack and then placed them all together. Take responsibility for either your misstocking of the items or for ringing up the wrong price. How come EVERY single item I had was double the price and yet they were ALL stocked together. This place has false advertisement it states on yelp that it closes at 9:30 on a Friday night but it was closed at 9 o'clock.

We walked into this store with the idea of buying a tent for our camping trip this weekend we didn't find what we were looking for but On our way out we stopped to look at the knife selection they had. I don't know much about knife brands but I know my boyfriend has been wanting one for when he goes fishing. Richard the sales rep helped us tremendously! He answered every one of our questions. His customer service assistance was very helpful, he even gave us a few pointers. We looked at a few different knives walked away, then walked right back and actually ended up purchasing a Kershaw knife thanks to Richard we felt very comfortable in our purchase. Walked in just to buy a lawn chair. didn't see what I wanted so I told one of the guys behind the counter that I was not looking for a camping chair but just a cheap folding chair. Instead of actually showing me where the chairs I was looking for was, he pointed towards the section of the sleeping bag & told me they were over there. I went over to the section he "pointed" me towards & still didn't find what I was looking for but found some folding chair that was on sale. As I got up to the cashier to pay for it I noticed that the bag the chair was in was ripped & asked the cashier to see if one of the sales associates could get it for me quickly since I was in a great hurry(4 of them where in the cashiers area & they were all just fooling around so I figured one of them could quickly run back & get me a replacement) so instead of asking one of the associates who was there just standing around doing, what looked to me was nothing important, she asked a guy standing next to her to page another associate to come out front so HE can go get the chair replacement..so hearing this I asked if it will take long & she said no but it seemed the guy they paged to come out front was side tracked by another customer. Hearing this made me upset because mind you, there were three girls & a guy that were just screwing around & not one of them was able to go & get my replacement for me!!!!! I told the cashier that this was ridiculous & I couldn't see why none of the associates that were there could do it & I told her it was faster if I did it myself & proceeded to do so!!! When I got back, which took only a minute or so I noticed that the other associates who were just "hanging out" at the register area were gone. I deal with a lot of people as a profession and I could honestly say whoever the manager is for this place should sit his employees down & teach them good customer service!! Came in for a quicky: needed two baseball pants. Ran in, two guys standing in front of the register, both look up and turn away without saying a word. No greeting, no hello, no smile. What a welcome. No one comes by and offers to assist you while I was circling the pant racks looking for the youth brand I wanted and the size I needed, despite me holding a baby and having my hands full. Awesome customer service. Then I hop in line and the two guys are helping the ONE person in line in front of me. Neither of them know what they are doing. They leave to go look for a manager, according to the one guy. They come back with no manager and proceed to try to help the guy again with the exchange. I wait close to 15 minutes while they try to figure the register out...as if it's rocket science. Come on, guys! Get some training!!! They ring me up and I am on my way. Unhelpful, unknowledgeable, unfriendly-for sure. Just lousy service all around. You come to a sports speciality store for get the service you need, certainly not for their bargain prices! Employees at this location seem not to be concerned much of what one wants to purchase. I had to wait for a hat to be reached for me, since they use a hanger retriever,which is kept in the fitting room and it was occupied. Will make you wait and tell you to come get them when it's unoccupied. I left the store with no hat. No apologies to at least make you feel any better. I didn't have a receipt, but the customer service looked up my transaction with the date I had in my bank records.
