Very rude!!! Just left there with my pre teen daughter and I am so pissed! My daughter needed a bathing suit, she tried on a bunch when she found one she liked the bottoms were tight so we switched with another pair. So we had a 10 on top and a 14 on bottoms. We get to the register the lady calls the manager over and announces loudly that we switched them. Then she looks at my daughter and says (loud) you don't fit into a 10? My daughter that is already worried about her weight and hates shopping for suits. I said I would pay the difference. The manager that looked 16 said we couldn't do it. He Atleast was nicer about it. The lady cashier was so rude and not even trying to hide that fact of rolling her eyes! I will never shop here again. Needless to say my daughter left in tears and now we have a suit that won't fit. read more

Service is pretty sucky.. Have been coming to this location for over 10 years and it has never changed- staff rarely, if ever, greets or acknowledges the customer, and they always seem reluctant to help you. Also, sale prices are not always as great as they claim to be/advertise them. read more

Based off the response I received after filing this complaint to the Big 5 customer care center, I am am going to upgrade this rating to 3 stars. I received an email from a representative within a couple days of filing this complaint. This is some of what it said "Please accept our sincere apology for this unfortunate incident. It has always been our number one priority at Big 5 Sporting Goods to provide the best possible service to all of our customers. Obviously, we fell short of our goal in this instance. Only when a customer takes the time to contact us, as you did, do we have the opportunity to address issues such as these. Your experience will be reviewed with the store's management staff and District Supervisor, and as a result the level of service provided will improve to meet our high standards." In addition I received a phone call from a Big 5 rep today apologizing. He also let me know that they investigated what happened and that the manager is no longer working at Big 5. He asked for me to give them another shot. It is not often I see a follow up like this and because of the way it was handled I will be going back to give Big 5 some more of my business. read more

Can I give this place a no star? CUSTOMER SERVICE DOES NOT EXIST AT THIS STORE! When I came into the store, there were three employees standing at the register and two of them was talking among themselves and one was on their CELL PHONE. As I walked towards them, NO ONE GREETED ME and acted like they were too good to even acknowledge me. I think they all think they get pay $100 an hour so they are better than their customers. I then ask the "less busy" one near the register where the CamelBak Replacement Valves were, and she pointed me towards the back where the backpacks were. I look and look and can't find it and then I went back to ask her again. Yet again, she pointed that it's near the backpacks. I don't get it, shouldn't you be a bit more personal and walk your customer over to the item they are looking for, especially when I sound and acted that I was in a hurry. It was Saturday evening at 5pm and there were only 2 customers near the backpack and three employees at the register. I finally had it, I had to go and ask another employee where the CamelBak Valves were, and she walked me over to it. I then went up to the register and corrected the employee and she said I never mention Valves, so she pointed me to the backpacks section. WOW? Maybe you were too busy gossiping with your other co-workers that you didn't even care! For management - Yourself is at fault as well for hiring useless people to take care of your customers. They were working this past Saturday around 5pm and they all should be talk to. It was my first time at this store and it will be my LAST! I will make sure to spread the friendly service here to my friends and family. read more

i needed a new swim cap and a pair of goggles again. i freakin left mine in the gym locker room. i hate it when that happens. :( since i was already there, i decided to look around for some boxing gloves and SCORE! they're on sale! yay! then of course, i continue to walk around. why do i do that? why can't i just be satisfied and proceed to the checkout counter?? nope. jilly has to keep surrounding herself with temptation. so this pretty little pink thing caught my eye. it looked like this. http://i10.ebayimg.com/01/i/000/ed/ea/1aa5_1.JPG but i only got one.. so now i'm ready for disc golf too! whenever that is again. dang.. what else can i buy?? anyway, back to my review. this place has an ok selection of sports stuff. its not all that big in there so it feels kinda cramped. the staff is not all that friendly but it'll do. read more

A girl lost in the store was me...... I was looking for a hydropack and stood in the middle of the store, trying to figure out where to go, when a salesman came over right away and asked if I needed help. I told him what I needed, he showed me where it was and presto! I was in and out in minutes Thank you. read more

Store is sometimes messy and you can't find what you are looking for. The employees can either be rude, uninterested or non existent. If you need help looking for something go somewhere else you will just get a head ache. If you know exactly what you need then go ahead. read more

I stop in here with I need running shoes and the location always comes through. Today, however, they did not have my size in stock, but were friendly enough to call the Covina store and have them set aside a pair for me. Top notch! read more

I live much closer to the Pasadena store but I go to the San Dimas as I like the store itself much better, better display of shoes and better service, less rif raf here. I'm a bit surprised by the negative ratings...these people must be awful hard to please or need to be coddled. There is a guy (in shoes) with apparently years of experience with Big 5 who really knows the shoes and what they have and have had. The young girl is the sweetest thing and very helpful. The girl at the register was efficient. One time, I had an issue with a pair of shoes that I had bought at another Big 5 and had no receipt and I got good service and credit for those shoes that I returned. I will continue to go to this store and even find it is more likely to have those items on sale than the Pasadena store that they themselves say has a larger stock. I don't know were else you can get shoes that look good and cost as little as under $20. After reading some of the other reviews, I have to wonder why you only have a choice of "useful, funny or cool". They should have a choice of "stupid" or "nonsense" as some of these people are simply ridiculous and apparently impossible to please. If you want junk shoes that are no cheaper, try Walmart...and service to match. And no, I'm not an employee or or a friend of one. read more

Employees at this location are rude, lazy and racist. The two female cashier had no customer interaction skills. No greeting, no thank you. An item didn't have a price, I asked the cashier to look up. She acted like it was a huge chore for her. She acted very depressed. I know retailers can do a lot better than this. I'm not a big fan of this Big 5. Their customer service has always been horrible and they are never welcoming or friendly. I was here yesterday and the place was a MESS. stuff everywhere! Probably the most unorganized big 5 in california. Not only was it tough to find what we needed, but once we got to the checkout line we were just stared at without any words. All i got was a "thanks" when the receipt was handed to me. No "hi, hello, how are you" nothing! Next time i'll drive the extra 5 miles to shop at Dicks Sporting Goods vs. this Big 5 read more

I went into the store to buy a gun cleaning kit for my husbands hunting gun. I walked up to the counter and asked the girl at the counter if they carried the kit for... And I read the exact gun type from the paper in my hand. She pointed in a direction and said They're over there. I turned to look and there were about 2,000 products 'over there'. So I asked her if she could show me. Apparently that was asking a little too much because she walked about 5 feet further and stretched her body over the counter to point in a more specific area. Their customer service sucks. It seems they do not realize if you have no customers then your store closes and you have no job! read more

The worst customer service ever! Went to purchase a swim suit. Unbeknownst to me, the bottoms and tops were mismatched and incorrectly placed within the store. Prices were also incorrect. Based on what I saw, I attempted to purchase two separates which I was initially told by the manager that I could do with a 10% discount. A few minutes later, however the manager stated that the merchandise could not be sold as separates and instead of offering an apology and a way to make it right, he offered excuses and refused to honor the discount which he had just ordered. Very unprofessional and very poor customer service. No wonder this store has very low ratings. read more
