I came in on a Friday afternoon to get my 2yr old a haircut, I was expecting a full house with a wait but they have enough barbers working here to get you in and out and on about your business. Service was 10/10. The place was clean the barbers were friendly and their aesthetic is exactly what I want my son to think what a barber shop should be. It was about a 25 minute drive for me and I wouldnt hesitate to do it again and again. I'm sure everybody's machines are different but the barber we got had one of the quietest machine I've heard. My 2yr old was more confused than scared which I is why I waited so long to get his haircut because I didn't want him to start freaking out in the chair. Came in a couple times. The guy in the middle chair I believe his name is Fidel is a solid barber and does a great job. One day I came in and Fidel had a couple guys in line for cuts before me. I was in a rush because I had a ball game to go too and the girl at the end asked if I wanted a cut. I reluctantly said ok and sat down in her chair. I should have listened to my body as somehow it knew that I was going to get one of the worst haircuts in history. I asked for a low fade with just a clean up on top. Nothing crazy at all. As the haircut went on the clippers somehow got higher and higher on my head. If I could have seen myself in the mirror i would have said something but I didn't know what was going on. 3/4's in to my haircut I knew that it was all over. I was ready for my friend's to start taking pics of me and make me into one of those memes where the barber asks what the customer wants and the customer replies just F my sh** up. When all was said and done my fade resembled more of a flat top as my low fade went up to the top of my head. You better believe I wore a hat for like 3 weeks straight. Never again. read more

Came 10 min before closing... the guy who cut my hair acted like he was in a rush and his mannerisms and attitude spoke more than anything else. What ticks me off is not being here two years ago. Studying right across the street at APU, I didn't think to stop by this sweet joint. This place is affordable yet grand! I sat in today, and I couldn't see what Barber Sebastian was up to, but with his strong streaks, I knew he did an awesome job. No, he didn't hurt me or make me bleed, but he let the razors kill those stubs so well, I feel my scalp is breathing! That's why there was a bit off wait, but, hey, it's totally worth it. If you can't wait, then go find "haircut" and pay extra for blah work. These experienced men know what true men want. Kudos! By the way, some guy named Steven complained about the wait, giving a one star rating. Well you know what, good things don't come at you fast. You gotta first learn to wait. Very friendly staff, great conversation and good service. Price is a bit steep for a poor college student for just a basic hair cut (17), I'm not sure about neck/fringe trims (I have yet to ask). I've been here twice, one staff member (i forgot the names, unfortunately) was very helpful when I was trying to figure out what I wanted, and followed requests pretty well. Another made some more assumptions, giving me a somewhat standard cut without tailoring as much to my cowlicks and such. Overall, I may come back as it's conveniently close to APU and I believe the cuts could improve with familiarity, but I will still probably keep looking for cheaper options that are still decent quality. read more

We just moved from Burbank to West Covina and my 3 year old son needed a hair cut we usually go back to the Valley but I couldn't make the drive. Big Al was recommended. To be honest I was having a panic attack because I knew my son would be acting up and cry. The place was full of guys and I didn't realize that we are in "raider nation" lol and he was wearing his favorite broncos hat. I have been taking my son to Big Als for a little over a year now. I can't say he had the best personality but his hair cuts are good. This past April I took my son to get a hair cut on a Tuesday big Al was off so his son in law Raul cut my sons hair it was by far the worst hair cut I've ever I asked for a simple fade 4 on the top 0 on the sides Raul did not know how to blend it looked like my son had a bowl cut. Then I went back in May big Al was not in again so I chose Bismark the cut itself was good but he cut my son multiple times. Today I went to big Al and voiced my complaint all he could say was "well all I can tell you is get your hair cut by me" "they have little experience I have over 20 years" I told him they represent his business he laughed on my face and disregarded my complaint. I will never be going back there. Avoid this shop everyone there are apprentices and are learning as they go big al doesn't tell you this but charges u full price and doesn't care how bad of a job is done. read more

I will admit that I did like my haircut when all was said and done. But if you are picky about your barber following your request, then this is probably not the place for you. For a haircut I would rate this place 4 stars. That being said, I will never come here again nor would I recommend anyone come here for a shave. If you offer a straight razor shave as one of your services then all who give that service should be capable of competently accomplishing it. I regularly shave at home and know how to properly shave. I was shaved improperly because of incompetence, and not because I have a thick beard as I was continually told. After leaving this place, I was left with several nicks all over my face and neck and a cut on my chin. I literally had to shave again. Decent price, $12, ok place to sit and stare at memorabilia. my hair cut was uneven and not pleasant. When I was asked what I wanted I said "can you cut the back and sides short, and with only scissors, I don't like how it looks when I'm cut with clippers" the barber (who i believe is the owner) replied "why not, clippers cut great, trust me you'll like it." me: "nah, i dont like how it looks, looks too spike-y, not a good look" barber: "fine..." after about 10 snips, I realized he wasn't comfortable with the scissors. I could tell because he was fumbling around with them. At the end of it the back was long, almost mullet-ish, and uneven. I realized once i got to my car, but what was I going to do? go back for another bad cut. Forget it! Maybe the other barbers were better with the scissors, but who knows. most of the patrons had and wanted buzz cuts. So if you need a scissor cut, this may not be the place for you. read more

What can I say about Big Als.. Well Ive been following Big Al before he opened up his shop. Six years later, several miles further, I'm still driving to him for a fade. I've also gotten hooked up with a fade by Gabe, who also does an amazing job. Alex and the other barbers also do a great job. Thats probably why I haven't had a chance to get a fade by them, they are always busy. If youve never been, don't be afraid to try it out. Note; take in mind this is a barbershop not a Salon. So they will be using the machine majority of the time, not so much scissors. All in all... try it out. Chances are you will like it. If you don't like it, at least the ladies looking at you will. If they don't haha.. these guys are "beauticians, not magicians". You probably need to look for a plastic surgeon, not a barbershop. read more

I went to go get a haircut on Saturday Mid morning around 10am. I was quickly greeted by a younger gentleman by the name of Cris I believe he was the owners son. I haven't got a haircut in a barbershop in about 5 years I'm a licensed barber myself and I usually just use the self cutting system and do it at home. Well I'm In the process of moving and my clippers were packed away. I decided to not unpack and pamper myself for the first time in a while. I grew up in Azusa and I remember big Al's being the shit.... Bro this was the worst fade I've gotten in Azusa the only thing I liked is that he used the electric razor. Fast forward to the haircut I had to ask for a line up at the end of my service and he didn't even hit it with the straight razor or ask me if I wanted to line my beard up. I was fully prepared to spend right around $75 and walked out spending $50 including a $10 tip. Bro if that's your dads business you should be the one representing the most giving people the best haircuts possible or at least try just like your dad that's been cutting in the city of Azusa since way back when.
