Im giving this place a 2 star as an overall experience... last night we ordered some food in the bar area. Our wings came out with no sauce on them (not how they were ordered) We immediately and politely asked our bar waitress about the issue and thought it was handled... 15-20 minutes later (the wings are now COLD) we checked up on the issue again and one of the bar tenders walked in the back and grabbed a cup of sauce and set it on our table... no apology... nothing... so we ate cold wings. The correct thing would have been to bring new wings out with the correct sauce on them that was WARM. We'll skip the bar food entirely next time.. read more

Company bowling party... good service and pizza/soda for a group works well. Only problem, this place caters to the younger crowd even for bowling. Lanes are terrible. Floors are very sticky and you almost trip as you complete your release of the ball. Obviously no care is taken on the bowling part of this facility. Terrible service. Ordered and waited 40 minutes while staff stood around in a fairly empty restaurant. Never got food despite my account showing a charge and kitchen losing the order. Site manager tried to help by putting in order and so we waited another 15 minutes but then staff wouldn't deliver cooked food as couldn't find online order and general manager was no help at all in offering a solution. We were double charged for drinks and the manager never came to fix one of our multiple bills we had due to having to pay for each item you order. We had a very good time with friends, but the service was sooo slow only to arrive incomplete, and incorrect We opted for dining in as well as bowling. We were told there was an hour and half wait for bowling although there were at least 20 unoccupied lanes that we saw when we arrived, so we decided to have dinner at Big Al's while we waited. It took 35 minutes to get our drink orders, and at least another 20 to receive them. By this time our lane was available, so we had all our food transferred to our bowling lane. When the food arrived, there were missing orders, then completely wrong orders, on top of having to wait longer for bowling shoes. Geez. I've been here twice, and each time the place was very clean. The bar area has monstrous TV screens that have sports playing. Bowling tips: Tuesdays are $2 bowling and $2 shoe rentals. Wednesdays 9-11 pm is $10 unlimited bowling and includes shoe rental. Wednesday nights are a little late for me to go during the work week, but we make it an occasional spot for date night. It's also not crowded at that time! Seems like a great place- I have no complaints. If I try their food and it's delicious, I will bump this up to a 5 star rating. read more

The kitchen and bar are stinky (smells like a greasy drain back by the restrooms) and many of the tables and chairs are greasy and dirty. We had to wipe our own table before sitting down! My kids always choose Big Al's for their birthday dinner and then some arcade games after and it had always been fun until last night. Unfortunately they adopted a new self serve business model thru a subpar app, a tip is a requested in advance but for what I'm not sure and once food is dropped off then good luck getting a refill on drinks unless you seek out one of the many staff people standing around. This is an OVER THE TOP LARGER THAN LIFE sports bar and bowling alley! Not to mention arcade games, food and fun! This place has HUGE with emphasis on HUGE TV screens (it covers an entire wall) and they have an over 21 bar too in case you dont feel like hanging around all the kids. Pros: lots to do and a nice BIG clean atmosphere. Good place to catch a big game...they have a full bar and a decent beer selection. Cons: its extremely busy and LOUD!!! Kids and teenagers EVERYWHERE! In my opinion the food is mediocre at best, and its always difficult to get a bowling lane (always seems to be an hour or more wait). Overall I would say as a whole, my experience with Big Als is ok (I've been here more than 20 times), as they have gotten busier, the staff seems more stressed out, and with that stress they have become borderline rude. I've been coming here since it opened with my family. It's awesome to get to watch a game have some food, take your kids to the arcade afterwards. But lately, not having a server and having to order by scanning their QR code, PREPAY for your food and not really have an option for refills, request for napkins or even silverware, it is too much work for the hefty price. I got a burger with a beer for $25 with a meager tip. I had to order my family's food and drinks first because it already took too long to do that and I have a current iPhone and I am not technologically challenged, the app doesn't work well on my iPhone so it took 20 minutes. Going to the bar isn't an option if you have to leave your young kids to go order. You have to pay a tip when ordering not knowing who it's going to or even why I'm tipping. I do not blame the people working here I blame the process. It's no longer a fun experience I had to have my head in my phone to order ignoring my family. Pay your servers a living wage and just bring them back. Edit** I will give that food came out faster than usual and that was great it just means I was still ordering my own food when it came. Stopping to help situate the kids. Then I didn't want to put in a 3rd order for more drinks and dessert shushing my kids while having my head in my phone in my trying to navigate the website. I brought 8 eleven year-old girls for a birthday party to eat pizza, play games and bowl. They put us on two connecting bowling lanes with one tv screen that has been broken for weeks. When I asked an attendant for help or to change lanes he went over and laughed with his co-worker. When I went to the front desk for help they said they could only split the party into two lanes far apart. No offer of a discount, no sorry and no offer of an additional free game. It cost $84.80 for 8 girls to bowl ONE game. Don't bring your kids here. Bad customer service. They should have that lane out of service. read more

I've never experienced this at a restaurant before. After my ribs meal (way too much fat on the ribs) the waiter took the check with my card. When he returned (after a while), he had two different checks and was confused which card was mine. My check was $35, but my card was with a check for $23. I told him this wasn't my check and he apologized and took my card back to the back. I check my bank account on my phone and see I had two different charges, $35 and $32 (not even the $23 that my card was with). He returns again and I show him the two different charges. He says, "that's strange," and leaves again, comes back and says the extra charge was taken off. He joked that I almost paid for the table next to me. Now, I think all is good and figured out. But, the next time I look at my bank account, there are three charges! $35, $35, and $32! This review is probably confusing... just like the waiter was. The servers here are awesome, Jake our server from last Sunday 1/22 was awesome! Today we showed up at 11:55am before they opened to get a good spot for the game. We were the second people in line for a table. I had asked to sit on the floor closest to the bar by putting two four top tables together. The manager Adam instantly shut that down and said a booth only. I had explained that we got there early so our party of 6 could sit wheee we did last weekend which was on the floor with two 4 tops pushed together. He refused and said he wasn't about to rearrange his dining room.... I understand trying to prepare for a busy day, I worked in the service industry for 10 years. I also understand trying to accommodate customers as well. I explained we would be hanging out spending a lot of money and we take care of our severs well. Still the manager was refusing to the point where our sever from last weekend tried to put us in the spot we wanted because he understood my side and Adam ran over and stopped him. Thank you to the severs and hosts here who tried to help us, you guys have a hard job and I appreciate you. To Adam, as a manager you should be more willing to help your customers and understand people who are willing to spend good money at your restaurant and take good care of your people it should not be the end of the world to put two tables together.... How have I not reviewed this place already? I'm pretty sure this place was built like three years before the rest of the village and for good reason -- it filled a desperate need for the middle of the Treasure Valley -- A something for everyone entertainment source. For the adults: They have THREE bars. The upstairs, or "Caddyshack" is my personal favorite. The bartenders are always super chill and they have free pool, shuffleboard, and arcade games. Plus no kiddos. The only downside is that the space can be reserved for corporate outting type shit, so occasionally it's inaccessible. There is also a bar in the restaurant which has like sixty barstools and 80 taps (sarcasm). But seriously -- it's huge and they have a decent beer selection. They also have a small bar in the middle of everything on the first floor, as if they're saying "who gives a sh**?!, we have something for everyone." Food: Average tasting bar food, typically. Burgers, nachos, wings, etc. Nothing on this front will impress you but the prices are fair for The Village. Okay, maybe the nachos are wayyyyyy too big. But still average. Bowling/Arcade - They have this. Bowling is slightly (only slightly) more expensive than other venues in the Valley but, given other amenities, well worth it. Arcade is also solid but not the biggest. IDGAF, I typically play either Guitar Hero or shoot hoops. And this is after visiting Caddyshack. Overall - My wife and I frequent The Village for date night as we live in Meridian, are usually paying a sitter, and the clock is rolling. We usually do dinner somewhere else, but, ALWAYS visit Big Al's to blow off some steam and have a good time. I love this place. read more

I frequent the Big Al's where I live and was a tad disappointed upon visiting this one that it didn't quite have the same quality. I still love the Big Al's concept of huge bar with sports viewing + luxe bowling + arcade for the little ones and young at heart. The luxe might be a bit much though as I think the prices are pretty high for the area without a huge return on quality. For instance, many of the machines in the arcade were broken. One or two would be understandable but it seemed like several. Additionally, the staff wasn't very friendly and seemed scattered. Hoping that was just a one off. At those prices I would hope for a smile and some efficiency. The bowling equipment worked fine and the wait was about what you would expect on a weekend evening. Overall it is still a good place to pass the time in the area. Maybe I'll just sample more of their large beer selection next time. read more

I am kind of surprised to see this place has such a low rating. We've been there three times now. Twice for UFC events and once for bowling with our child. All three times we found that staff to be very friendly and accommodating. Yes, it is pretty loud here and there are plenty of teenagers and young adults around. It's a sports bar/arcade/restaurant/bowling alley. I wouldn't expect anything different. It's a very large facility and is well maintained, all of the areas we have utilized thus far were very nice. This is the best place to watch UFC thus far, when BWW is loaded down we can easily get in at Al's and always get amazing seats. There is a 5.00 per person cover charge. This is definitely not the cheapest place but it has a lot of perks to make up for it. The food is pretty tasty. It is good bar food. All in all, assuming you consider the type of place you are at, it's pretty nice. read more

Bowling was fun- the food was a disappointment! We ordered a a pound of wings which was listed in the menu to come with 14- it came with 8 very small wings. The waitress told us they changed the menu. The lettuce wraps came with wilted lettuce and not enough for 5 people. The waitress said she spoke to the manager about our disappointment and reported back "I'm sorry the manager doesn't want to do anything about it!" It's pretty much the same as the one in Portland, only they have some newer arcade machines. Layout, decor, service, ticket machines are pretty much the same. Less crazy than the one in Portland. There were several people who should have been cut off long ago. Do not order the Grand Slam appetizer.. Waste of $16 for 1/2 of it to be potato chips. I love(d) big als when they first opened. The hype for the Meridian Village was becoming real. I would using visit on Fridays after work with a bunch of buddies. The fact that they are open late is a huge plus to people who are looking for a dinning experience at midnight (the rare few of us out there). So let's talk about the pros and cons Pro: large new facility offers plenty of amenities. Clean up kept facilities. Large televisions for sports. Arcade and bowling for family or wholesome fun. Cons: food is WAY over priced for what you are getting. If the food tasted better I would understand a hefty price. I've had several burgers on more than one occasion have melted plastic in the cheese. The staff is always willing to re make food, but it's disheartening to have it happen 3+ times. Would I take friends to Big Als? Probably for the excitement during game day, but their are other options around that compete in this market. I recommend they adjust the food prices. read more

So the food is good, which is why we tried Big Al's for a second time. Unfortunately both visits yielded the same customer service result, absolute garbage. Start off by seating yourself. Ok. You use a QR to view their menu and order food. Didn't mind that. You pay on the app, which is...ok. Choose a tip while you pay, before receiving any service? What type of crap is that? I selected no tip, but had cash to give should the service provided be at least adequate. While waiting for our food, we decided we wanted drinks. We get in line at the bar to order drinks, waited 2nd in line for about 5 minutes, not too bad. When we start to give our order, we had to repeat the same order 3 times, two margaritas and a pitcher of beer. They deliver our drinks, both margaritas are wrong, and one of the glasses for the beer was filthy and clearly unwashed. We get that corrected. After about 20 minutes, received our food. We get our food, no silverware, no napkins, no condiments. Server drops food off, and bails. No "Hi, I'll be serving you today" no conversation at all! OH WAIT, we need refills on margaritas and sodas. How do we get refills? Who the heck knows. Get back in line and waited nearly 15 minutes, oh and now their blender is broken...weird. So now, our food is cold by the time we get back. At the end of this really crappy service, we decide to personally tip the lady that busted our table before and after we sat down...but...she can't take a tip because she's the manager. The "manager" is busting tables? Maybe if she was managing instead of busting tables, the service wouldn't have sucked so bad. She suggested tipping the bartenders instead...but we kindly let her know the bar service sucked! Probably not going back there ever... read more

So this review is specifically for the food, as I have yet to actually try the other portions of the place and haven't been bowling in years. Walked by and realized that I had a gift card from Christmas and suddenly really really wanted a burger. So being someone who loves spicy food (used to work for an Indian Restaurant where some foods could give Pepper Spray a run for its money) and eats it almost exclusive, I looked for the spiciest burger on the Menu. Lord and behold, the Near Death burger. Really wasn't expecting it to be that spicy because most burger joints and Grills say they have "One of the Spiciest things around" and it ends up being, "Meh,". However it was well named because it nearly killed me and 3 hours after eating it, my lips are still burning. Kudos to your chef, he knew exactly how to make one of the spiciest things I've ever eaten. I've come across Hot Curries that are less spicy. Thus I am impressed. Oh I also loved your seasoned, crunchy fries too. Seemed to be a lot like those addictive potato wedges you can find at Grocery Delis but smaller and more crunchy. Some of the best I've had recently.
