A lot has changed over the years at The Reef, and I'm not sure it's all been for the better. Even the drink menu seems to have drifted into "tiki bar on autopilot" territory- less island escape, more umbrella-in-a-glass routine. The food leans on the greasy side these days, though I still hear the steaks are solid. I'll have to put that to the test next time. That said, it's hard to beat this spot in the spring and summer. The outdoor patio is easily one of the best in town and worth the visit alone. One small (but noticeable) suggestion: the glass art piece hanging near the entrance could use a good dusting. Right now, it sets more of a "shipwreck chic" vibe than tropical oasis. read more

Went to a private party to see my son's band play with school of rock meridian. It was a set menu so not full kitchen. I was excited to try the items I saw on their full menu but alas couldn't happen. I like the decor and it's a cool venue to see live music. The upstairs is not handicap accessible and I have a gait/function disability. There are only stairs to get up to the main area and it was a feat for me to not only go up but even more so down the stairs. I wish they had an elevator but they don't. I wasn't about to miss my son's performance so I pushed through with the help of my husband but not without holding up all the other patrons trying to come down the stairs also. I will not be back for this reason alone. read more

Service at the bar at 8pm on a Friday was pretty brutal. Then got handed 3 room temperature beers at the bar. Told the bartender and he just got cold glasses that's all to help. Very below average experience here not a huge fan unfortunately and loved the looks of the place when first walking up there. read more

The Hula Hula Chicken was fresh and flavorful, but the horseradish sauce I got for my fries is one I'll be craving forever. Food came out quickly, though it wasn't busy the evening we went. recent date night outing - unfortunately, a disappointment. Tiki ambience was pretty decent to be fair, but food, drinks, and service were decidedly underwhelming. Want to be fair as a Tiki enthusiast can't expect a transformative experience in every town, but would love to see this place elevate their cocktail game (Mai Tai was lacking complexity and overly-sweet, no garnish - similarly overly-sweet mojito). More quality rums, more creative, fresh-tasting syrups, fresh garnishes would be awesome (pick up a copy of Smuggler's Cove). Also, our sampler platter app seemed like an oven-warmed selection from the Costco Freezer. I had to walk up to the bar to get service after being seated for ~10-15 minutes (on a Friday evening no less). Boise has a handful of solid Speak-Easies and other seriously good watering holes, and could *really* use a top-tier Tiki bar (which Reef could be). read more

We have fond memories of The Reef. Our favorite is dinning on their rooftop in the summer. We decided to have dinner here since it's been a while. Service was friendly and quick and the atmosphere is dark with tiki charm. It was unfortunate that the food quality has declined and everything was over fried and just not good. This Polynesian food restaurant/Tiki bar has outstanding food. We were seated at a table at the roof top with good views. My wife ordered the Jamaican Jerk Chicken and found it to be amazing. I had the Firecracker Salmon. It was one of the best salmon dishes I ever had. And I had Salmon in many different countries. The drinks are done well and tasty. Taylor, our server was phenomenal. If you want amazing food, good drinks for a reasonable price you get a great value here. We will visit again. read more

With it's old Tiki Bar charm, this Resaurant is fun and inviting. The menu has a great variety of sushi to steak. It was hot and perfectly delicious. Our server was Michael on a Friday night. I haven't been to the reef in a while but the food was great the Salmon was delicious tender with a little bit of a crisp from the glazed the prawns where my favorite and the drinks where sweet and refreshing for a hot day. Our server Brandon I think was his name he was great and the bar back as well. The restaurant was a bit hot I believe there was no AC working it was a little muggy and the table was super sticky but the place was calm and not busy so our food came out quick and hot. Over all it was a great meal just not very comfortable due to the heat. read more

We were very fortunate to book this place for a private event and found the staff to be extremely courteous and helpful. We had the upstairs outdoor deck to ourselves. The food and drink quality/quantities were excellent! The owner came out to greet us and ask if we needed anything multiple times. He even gave us history lessons on the building and surroundings! It's just a few blocks from the state Capitol. When in Boise, DEFINITELY go to The Reef! read more

Reef is such a fun rooftop hangout spot, with a laidback vibe and all the rum you can drink, this tiki bar is a great place for drinks and apps. The nachos are awesome and will feed a crowd. The entrees and sushi left a lot to be desired. At the end of the day, it's bar food so stick to the fried stuff and small plates. read more

I went to a drag brunch here. I'm so glad Reef is opening up their space to be a spot for the queer community to hold events and allow people to be authentically themselves. But the food was terrible. The service was terrible. There were some kinds to work out. It might be better if you weren't sitting at the bar. This place was so cute and fun. We had a super nice server made us feel like a family hang out. Ordered, the pork Sandwich, the passion fruit bbq sauce so good. Ordered the firecracker salmon and it didn't disappoint, yummy! Ordered the poke bowl, the curry sauce was delicious. Steak stir fried with veggies was tasty. My girl friend and I came here for a drink. Girls night!!! I got the mermaid lemonade and she got the tiki margarita I believe. We also orders chips and salsa. Have to soak up the alcohol with something. My drink was really good. The glass was about 6-7 inches tall, literally only half an once or so of any alcohol. Whatever, tastes great. Down side, it was so sweet I had to really brush my teeth after. Was pretty bad. Her drink pretty much punched her in the face. The alcohol taste was overwhelming. The chips and salsa.... Didn't think you could really mess chips and salsa up. Chips were stale. Needed more salt. The salsa tasted like tomato sauce. We kept adding salt to it. In the end we gave up and stopped eating them. Not worth it. If you want any sort of AC, this isn't the place for it. It was hot and humid inside. The bar stools are super uncomfortable. Our legs and feet fell asleep. No place to put our feet. Couldn't cross my legs, couldn't put one leg under me. Just uncomfortable. read more

We stopped in for dinner at the Reef this past Friday, January 10. We love to go there during happy hour. This is one of our favorite restaurants in Boise. Food is always great and service exceptional. Brionna was our server for the evening. We were greeted minutes after we sat down, drink and food orders were placed and within no time our meal was delivered to our table. You can never go wrong with the Mondo Pupu Platter!!! My wife and I tried the Reef after returning from a Kauai vacation. We were planning to be disappointed, but were instead surprisingly shocked at how amazing the food tasted. Went here last weekend & it was a little bit of a disappointment honestly, but I've been here a year ago & had a better experience so I'm hoping it was just the night. Grabbed some drinks & nachos. The cups are fun & drinks are really good. Their nachos are usually bomb! But they were so overcooked this time. It was hard to even separate the chips from the hardened cheese. The Reef is the spot for the best rooftop patio vibes in Downtown Boise! If you're in the mood for shareable appetizers and drinks, the Reef has huge party bowls and giant mules for 2-4 people. The Volcano party bowl is my go-to because of the nostalgia dragon berry Bacardi brings to me ( Embarrassing, I know... but I own it.) The Mondo pupu platter is excellent for groups of 2-4. I love coming here after work with some peeps and ordering the Mondo pupu platter and the Volcano party bowl. I usually also order a few extra orders of coconut shrimp because it's my favorite! It's important to note that after a specific time (8 pm, I believe) where the Reef becomes 21+. There's also often live music inside and a full bar if you feel more like just drinking and vibing and don't need a whole table. It's a bit more dark and divey inside, but still really fun when there's live music. Come here for the rooftop patio dining, large and reasonably priced party bowls, and shareable pupu platters! read more

I love the outdoor seating arrangement that they have for this restaurant! There was also a outdoor bar that sits in the middle of the patio. It wasn't open I'm sure it's due to COVID but it looked pretty awesome. I love to be here when they are using it. Plenty of outdoor seating on their rooftop patio. The sun was shining so we got really lucky to enjoy our food on this beautiful day. My first 5 item is the coconut shrimp. Perfect crunch to it and delicious. I could have just ordered 10 of them and I would have been satisfied. It was just my appetizer and my meal was the crunch wrap. It wasn't exactly the flavor I expected because it was kind of plain but still good. I actually dipped my wrap in the AMAZING sweet chili sauce that came with my shrimp to give it a little more flavor. I ordered a side salad to go with my wrap, the veggies were fresh, tasty and good. The salad that comes with your meal is a good size portion, I did not finish it all. My husband said the tacos had a nice kick to them and he liked his meal a lot as well. My son ordered the crab wontons which were very flavorful. The tastiest kids meal for me was the teriyaki chicken, rice and broccoli. I couldn't stop eating my sons broccoli it was juicy, soft with a little crunch to it. Exactly how I like my broccoli cooked. Our server was great, it's a really cute restaurant. Tons of island themed decorations. They opened at 3pm and we arrived around 3:15pm. They definitely get busy when they open. I seen that they take reservations but they are not mandatory. I was a little confused when I first looked up the restaurant info. They have a stage inside so Im sure it's a fun spot to go to when they have live music. It's a very spacious building. We are from Seattle so it was cool to see some of their staff wearing their Seahawk gear!! read more
