The kahlua sandwich was averagely good nothing special, clam chowder was heavily below average in my opinion, I like thicker and chewy this was straight water potato soup would not recommend the clam chowder. On a good note the drinks were very good super tasty and awesome amounts of liquor inside. The sweet chilly sauce that comes with the coconut chicken was great along with the coconut chicken itself. I love the thickness of the chicken it's not super thick it's nicer thin got a good crunch and was an excellent choice, Would definitely recommend. To their credit, they have happy hour on Saturday until 6 PM.. but my skinny margarita was so bad, I didn't drink it. But our server never noticed. A lot has changed over the years at The Reef, and I'm not sure it's all been for the better. Even the drink menu seems to have drifted into "tiki bar on autopilot" territory- less island escape, more umbrella-in-a-glass routine. The food leans on the greasy side these days, though I still hear the steaks are solid. I'll have to put that to the test next time. That said, it's hard to beat this spot in the spring and summer. The outdoor patio is easily one of the best in town and worth the visit alone. One small (but noticeable) suggestion: the glass art piece hanging near the entrance could use a good dusting. Right now, it sets more of a "shipwreck chic" vibe than tropical oasis. read more

Want to be fair as a Tiki enthusiast can't expect a transformative experience in every town, but would love to see this place elevate their cocktail game (Mai Tai was lacking complexity and overly-sweet, no garnish - similarly overly-sweet mojito). More quality rums, more creative, fresh-tasting syrups, fresh garnishes would be awesome (pick up a copy of Smuggler's Cove). Also, our sampler platter app seemed like an oven-warmed selection from the Costco Freezer. I had to walk up to the bar to get service after being seated for ~10-15 minutes (on a Friday evening no less). Boise has a handful of solid Speak-Easies and other seriously good watering holes, and could *really* use a top-tier Tiki bar (which Reef could be). read more

Went to a private party to see my son's band play with school of rock meridian. It was a set menu so not full kitchen. I was excited to try the items I saw on their full menu but alas couldn't happen. I like the decor and it's a cool venue to see live music. The upstairs is not handicap accessible and I have a gait/function disability. There are only stairs to get up to the main area and it was a feat for me to not only go up but even more so down the stairs. I wish they had an elevator but they don't. I wasn't about to miss my son's performance so I pushed through with the help of my husband but not without holding up all the other patrons trying to come down the stairs also. I had the Firecracker Salmon. It was one of the best salmon dishes I ever had. And I had Salmon in many different countries. The drinks are done well and tasty. Taylor, our server was phenomenal. Reef is such a fun rooftop hangout spot, with a laidback vibe and all the rum you can drink, this tiki bar is a great place for drinks and apps. The nachos are awesome and will feed a crowd. The entrees and sushi left a lot to be desired. At the end of the day, it's bar food so stick to the fried stuff and small plates. read more

I haven't been to the reef in a while but the food was great the Salmon was delicious tender with a little bit of a crisp from the glazed the prawns where my favorite and the drinks where sweet and refreshing for a hot day. Our server Brandon I think was his name he was great and the bar back as well. The restaurant was a bit hot I believe there was no AC working it was a little muggy and the table was super sticky but the place was calm and not busy so our food came out quick and hot. We were very fortunate to book this place for a private event and found the staff to be extremely courteous and helpful. We had the upstairs outdoor deck to ourselves. The food and drink quality/quantities were excellent! The owner came out to greet us and ask if we needed anything multiple times. He even gave us history lessons on the building and surroundings! Didn't think you could really mess chips and salsa up. Chips were stale. Needed more salt. The salsa tasted like tomato sauce. We kept adding salt to it.
