I would not recommend Big Apple Plumbing. I had them come to fix an issue I had with the connection with the boiler and my thermostat. They were not able to find that anything with wrong with it. I was charged a $200 service fee. I had called another plumber to get a second opinion and he was able to figure out what was wrong with it in minutes. I reached out to big Apple plumbing to see if they would be able to refund me due to them not being able to figure out the issue and me having to call someone else. They told me they were unable to give me a refund because 1. I did not call them back if the problem continued- I called someone else for a second opinion. 2. The receipt that I had from the other plumber did not have his business address on it. 3. They are also claiming that they had advised me to change the thermostat, which they never did. read more

I could not be more disappointed. This beautiful family business (Carol, married to Ken Sr, parents of Ken Jr) are qualified plumbers. They had to make me tear up all of my floors and rip open all of my walls. 100 Year Old Perfect antique plaster. Ouch. I exhaled and let my pristine antique work go. They missed a connection in a joint. I tried to respectfully respond (having already let them tear apart my home & paid others to use whatever modern materials exist to "replace" my perfect antique work,) and the reply is "Plumbing warranty is 1 year maximum. It took them TWO years to decide they wanted one third of the Job. That is only DECIDING they didn't want to finish our negotiated job. A warranty of one year under a sink if entirely fair. When it involves destroying my floors and walls 12 months is a little shy of respectable. I am the sole owner of a solid antique house. When I called to ask for assistance they threatened to call the Department of Buildings on me. I did them a favor. I called the NYC Department or Buildings on their behalf and explained that my plumbers either lied to me or just made a mistake, I'm not #Union#1NYC. Building code is complex. Master plumbers are inundated with nonsense paperwork. Journey men are supposed to be able to attach pvc to pvc, which I am told is and isn't up to current code, depending on which plumber I speak with. I've always paid extra for Carol & her husband & son Ken because they feel honorable to me. I guess I was mistaken. I would love to have been able to give them 11 out of ten stars. We bought an old house in Jackson Heights about two years ago; it's come with plenty of quirks, especially in the plumbing department. We use the Big Apple Plumbing & Heating team for all of our issues. They snaked our drains when we first moved in after the showers and sinks started backing up. They fixed an old broken check valve in the basement and also fixed a passive leak in my third-floor bathroom, which was causing damage to the ceiling of the room below. In all instances, the team was prompt, pricing was transparent, and they completed the work in line with the pre-work estimates they provided. I use Big Apple to perform my annual boiler inspection/tune-up every year. I also have them look at miscellaneous issues around the house. I decided to invest in the combi boiler since my existing boiler and water tank were obsolete. Navien combi is space saving and highly efficient (I chose the condensing unit). After obtaining several quotes I selected Big Apple Plumbing even though their quote was higher due to added NY city inspection cost. The installation was quick and seamless. The crew was right on time and very professional. They removed the old units and cleaned all debree. In less than two days the new unit was I place. The result is beautiful and takes hardly any space. I am saving on energy costs and never run out of hot water. Very happy with my choice. The Big Apple crew just installed a washer dryer in our basement. They did an excellent job with the venting for the dryer, attaching the proper venting tube to the ceiling and following the lines and edges of the walls. The vent that goes outside the house, through the brick ,is tight and neat...just great. They had to move many items in our crowded basement and took care of it all...wouldn't let me move a thing...and then returned everything to it's place. They swept up inside and out, and everything looked even better than when they arrived...in addition to having a fully functioning washer /dryer. They came exactly when they said they'd be there, and I had no problems with scheduling. They were very accommodating to my personal schedule. I have used this company before for several large jobs, and I'd highly recommend them. This is the worst company in existence, I made an appointment for a boiler cleaning as far back as September after realizing no one ever showed up or called to confirm I contacted them to find out what happened, I was told they left several messages for me that I never received and despite the lie I decided to move forward with scheduling another appointment Today was the appointment and of course no one showed up to my home, I called and was again told they called me and again no one contacted me. The clerk on the phone became very condescending and even made remarks such as either you want to reschedule or not and when I addressed her tone with me an older gentleman began yelling, screaming and swearing at me on the phone he even asked where was I because he wanted to meet with me in a threatening tone. I have never experienced anything like this before and I'm so taken back by the way these people behaved. They're listed on Angie's list that's how I became aware of their service. Angie's list will get a full report of the unprofessionalism this company should not be in business they have incompetent plumbers who take short cuts and don't use common sense when installing basic things like faucets and vanities I can go on for days about the numerous problems I've had with them however the work on my boiler has been without complaint after a senior gentlemen whom I'm assuming owns the company came personally to my home and found all of the errors made and had someone adjust the repairs to code had this not happened god only knows what I would be faced with. They worked with my schedule to get the job done. It was in theory a simple job (a leaky bathroom faucet) made complicated by the old building and broken valves in my bathroom - but they were able to do it and even replaced the valves while they were at it. Use to work for this company. After being off the books the first few days, they told me they would take care of my pay for those days. Then I was fired on my day off for not coming in while sick. They told me I was first lying, then that I was partying (which I don't even drink, and trust me I'm definitely not the alcoholic on that crew). Then when I went to get my last check, I was intimidate and then the "owner" got in my face doing everything to make the confrontation physical, until I told him I was recording since he pulled up to the house. Most unprofessional company I ever worked for. Wouldn't be surprised if they tried coming after me for this review. And just know if you aren't the same race, they're definitely talking about you and your culture as soon as they get in that van. I feel sorry for anybody who works for those A-hole. read more

We purchased a new fancy kitchen faucet that was apparently a very tricky install with the way our sink was arranged originally. We'd already lost money from a very nice but very novice apprentice sent by the Handy app and were somewhat desperate for help. So we went to our bar owner friends that recommended Kenny and the team over at Big Apple. They showed up right on time this morning at 7am, troubleshot the whole set up in no time and got me out of there and off to work on time no trouble at all! The faucet works great and I can't recommend Kenny, Angel, and Derek from Big Apple Plumbing & Heating highly enough. The price for all that crazy work was beyond reasonable too! If I could give them no stars I would. They came out to my house to replace a water heater. The two guys that came were so busy talking on their cell phones and B****S****G around they pulled the plug out on my freezer in the basement to use their wet vac and forgot to plug it back in when they were finished. I didn't notice until a week later when the stench from the spoiled meat had my basement reeking. Called the company even showed the receipt where I had went to BJs two days before but they never replaced the funds. Careless and caused more problems than they solved. read more

I had guys from Big Apple come out a couple times and they did a fine job. Today, I called at 2pm with an emergency. When the guy answered the phone I just said "Hi, I need a technician to come look at my oil furnace." He replied "Who IS this?" and then proceeded to tell me that this was indeed Big Apply Plumbing & Heating but also said "I don't have time for this right now. I've got things going on." Didn't even ask me about my problem or for my number to call me back. I need an HVAC company I can rely on and these guys, though they did good work when here previously, seem to be perfectly willing to tell me to shove off if I call at an inopportune time for them. My heating system had been rigged by the previous home owner and was not functioning properly. The pipes banged so loud that it was unbearable, and the shaking was beginning to effect the house structure. I used another plumber who overcharged me and made the issue WORSE. I brought in several other companies for an estimate, and all of them scratched their heads and couldn't figure out how to fix the issue. Then I met Ken from Big Apple. He took his time in evaluating the issue and came up with a game plan to convert the system. He answered ALL of my many questions, and his confidence and professionalism put me at ease. Combined he and his father have YEARS of experience and have seen it all, so he wasn't perplexed or overwhelmed with my situation, which was such a relief. We scheduled the appointment and he was on time (to the minute), incredibly respectful of my home and my tenants, thorough, communicative and efficient. I hesitated to write this review because in the past I have been hopeful that the problem is fixed, only to be disappointed when they return, but so far (knock on wood) the issues seem to have been fully resolved. I will call them for ALL of my future plumbing needs. The price was a bit high, but worth every penny. I wish I would have found Ken before I wasted thousands of dollars trying to fix the issue with other, less competent companies. Use them, you will not regret it. read more
