DON'T TRUST THIS COMPANY OR THE REVIEWS!!! They installed a faulty valve that gave us problems that we did not have before the installation. When my husband called them about it they claimed it was roots and other stuff. ANYTHING but what they would be responsible for even though we're still in the warranty period. A second opinion showed that it IS their fault. But how do you go back to a company that over charged you and did a messed up job to fix what they didn't do right the first time???? But that's cool....please enjoy the money you made one time. Have used there services in the past so I hired them to fix a leak in my elderly moms home. Was quoted 375 to have all the plumbing fixtures under the sink changed out to new. They were there 10 mins and only changed out a shut off valve and a braided flex tube. Together these parts cost less than $20 dollars. These are very difficult times for us all and to have a company price gauge on repair services during Covid times is unbelievable. Repair costs should have been reduced if only the shut off value and braided flex tubing needed to be replaced. read more

OMG!!!! From beginning to end. After having called the infamous Roto Rooter,and them trying to commit straight up robbery, I went on yelp to find someone to cure my sick, sick kitchen drain. I called one number and found that they were out of business, then i called Big Apple and my dreams became reality. First, the owner, Nick, was on the phone when I called, said he would call me back and did so in less than an hour. Told him my issues, he promised to have someone out to me the next day between 12-2, 12:45, they were ringing the bell. Friendly and professional enough without being overbearing, came Anthony and Theo. I had two issues a leak from my tenant's shower and the blockage in my kitchen; I am blocked no more and the leak that happened because of poor workmanship, will be fixed today. YIPPIE!!!!! I hired Big Apple Installations to replace the hot and cold water valves under the kitchen sink. I was quoted $275, but the final bill was more than double that (around $600). I was charged an additional $50 for materials and $225 for additional labor. The owner even came in the middle of the job, but never informed me about the additional charges. After talking to him about the bill, the owner removed the 3 percent credit card charge the amounted to about $17. I regret using this company. read more

Nick and crew are amazing. I was dealing with a slumlord who was doing lots of work without the proper permits. National Grid ended up shutting off two water heaters and the furnace -- 2 gas leaks and a carbon monoxide leak!!! for the whole building (9 apartments -- some with kids). Even though I'm just a tennant, Nick was super communicative with me and kept me posted on the process. I purchased a Co-op apartment that had been nicely renovated but had some significant bathroom plumbing problems. The previous owner had installed plumbing underneath the sink that was of cheap quality and did not have the usual S-curve shape (known as a 'P-trap'). This was causing horrible clogging. Also, the sink faucet had extremely low pressure (likely also due to cheap faucet pipes). Nick and his associate cleaned out the drain and installed new pipes under the bathroom sink that were much better in quality and were P-trap compliant. They also installed a new bathroom sink faucet and pipes. They initially recommended a standard Delta one-hole faucet (a well-regarded brand), but I instead asked for a hard-to-find touch-activated Delta faucet as an upgrade. They ordered the faucet and installed it with no problems. My bathroom sink is now clog-free, with excellent water pressure and a high-quality touch faucet that's cool to operate! Nick and his team were friendly and professional, maintained good communication throughout the process, were efficient and timely, and were patient in dealing with some bureaucratic silliness from my Co-op's management company. I would highly recommend them to anyone I know in need of any plumbing assistance. read more

In April, 2015, Big Apple Installations did an excellent job of installing two hot water heaters at a reasonable price in a multi family brownstone. Today, during a heavy storm a water alarm located near the hot water heaters activated. When I went to investigate, the cellar floor, which is often somewhat wet during storms, was covered with more than an inch deep water. I was unable to find any source of water which would have contributed to such flooding and called Big Apple Installation to come over to check the water heaters The courtesy and rapidity with which they responded to my call, and sent someone over to check the hot water heaters, is so rare in the New York area and and confirmed the confidence I felt about their fine work installing the water heaters. Nick came over and found the source of the flooding -- not the water heaters, but a cap on a sewer drain which had come off during the rain and allowed the rapidly flowing water to spill into the cellar. How great to know they stand by their product and their work and are courteous and responsive in an emergency! My thanks to them and they have my highest recommendation. read more

Although the work was done correctly, I feel it was too expensive for a 45 minute job to replace a corroded galvanized nipple fitting with a new brass nipple and ball valve and flexible hose to the kitchen sink faucet. I had the opportunity to reject the $411.00 estimate however I already had the day off and the corroded nipple was leaking. Maybe I am out of touch with what things cost lately since I usually do most repairs myself. I just had trouble fitting under my kitchen sink cabinet to tackle this repair. read more

This review is long overdue but the sentiment will always be the same. Several weeks ago I had a plumbing emergency. Since the plumber I had used for many years had since gone on I was desperate. After registering with a contracting site, I waiting for calls to come through. Several contractors called but somehow I didn't feel comfortable. Then I received a call from Nick at Big Apple. I told him my problem and the many questions I had. Nick was wonderful. He listened to my questions, was patient, kind, considerate and most of all knowledgeable. He offered to come to my home to "check out" the situation (at no cost to me) whether I used him or not. Nick and a colleague arrived within 20 minutes, assessed the situation in a "New York Minute" and in less than that I hired him. Aside from being young and very up-coming Nick possesses the skill and knowledge that would be expected from one twice his age. I was very happy with the outcome and even more happy that now I have a new plumber and friend who possesses what is sadly missing with some contrators these days .....honesty and integrity. I would never recommend Big Apple. Do not sign a contract with this company. This is the first negative review I've ever posted about anything because I usually feel too sorry to do so. In this case, I feel morally obligated to. This is a long, detailed review but I urge you to read through so you don't go through what I did. I got a new boiler installed in the summer which came with a yearlong warrantee for repairs. It broke this winter and when I requested to schedule times for repair, I was either made to wait all day or had to work my schedule around theirs or not receive service. I was literally told "take it or leave it" when I asked if they could come at a different time to consider my work schedule. One major repair took three days (machine parts were replaced and they had to drain my heaters). This month, it stopped working again. This is in the dead of winter. It was extremely cold so I called for a repair. They said they'd arrive the following day. I checked in throughout the day and was told they were on their way. They never arrived and never called me to let me know. Their office closed and I couldn't reach anyone. I cancelled all my plans hoping they'd show up at night and was so cold and worried that my pipes would burst. The next morning, my father had to go to the office in person to urge them to check. I missed another day of work to wait for the repair since they wouldn't schedule a time for me. When they came, they realized the thermostat was loose and I just needed to get a new one. I was relieved it was an easy fix and replaced it myself. 2 weeks later, I received a mailed invoice for the visit claiming I had told them someone else broke the thermostat and touched the boiler (I did not tell them this. The thermostat was just old.) and therefore the service was not covered. Keep in mind, they were asking me to pay $163 for a visit that I had to resolve on my own which should normally be covered under the warrantee which was for a $17,000 purchase. When I called to refute it, the representative scolded me, and threatened to void the warrantee if I did not pay it. I am afraid to ever call them for any services. I am paying them out of fear because they know where I live. If there is an issue in the future, I will have to call another company because warrantee or not, the stress and paranoia that comes with Big Apple is not worth it. read more
