Great burger reasonably priced. We had a quick stop and ordered to go and all five of us thought the food was great

Not sure I see what the hype is about. Yes, the burgers are big in the sense that it's a 1/2lb patty that is smashed to CD thickness. This means the burger is about twice the width of a standard burger. But as someone else pointed out, the ratio of meat and toppings to bun is just off. Way too much of everything besides meat (bread in particular) for this to work. The problem is exacerbated by the fact that the meat is dry and pretty tasteless. Yes, you could get a double, but I don't want to eat a pound of burger meat. a 1/2 lb is already plenty. So figure out the ratios that this works, even if that means making the burger smaller (i.e. two 1/4 lb smash patties and a standard size bun instead of one the size of a dinner plate). So meh on the burger, frankly. The fries are a soggy greasy mess. They aren't twice fried so the are just floppy and oily, even if the flavor is decent. A floppy fry just don't fly! Anyway, for where it is (the middle of the middle of nowhere), it's fine. But it's nothing to write home about. Oh, and their ventilation system clearly doesn't work so the air inside the place is a fog of grease. I wouldn't not want to see what's happening to the lungs of the employees. read more

Halloween 2021 Headed from Sedona to KC and hungry. The advertisement for Big Ass Burger on I40 caught my husband's eye and based on the few reviews we said why not! The burger was big, fresh and ready fast for its size. It was enough for my husband & I and a few burger bites for our Golden. We got the combo which they make skin on shoestring curly fries. The burgers were indeed Big A$$ Burgers, and very filling. If the fries were a touch crispier and not as greasy/soggy, the burgers and fries would definitely be top tier. Service is fast and friendly, nice little spot just off the 40. Stop on in and give 'em a try if you're hankering for some beef. (Hot dogs are pretty good too) not a huge fan of the cheese sauce for the chili cheese fries but, to each their own. read more

This place was pretty alright. I was reeled in by one review but it wasn't really anything too special. The topping to bun ratio was kinda off. The fries were meh. If I didn't add the cheese, I probably wouldn't have been able to eat them. It was still a nice place to have lunch tho. read more

Went by after church today. Sat down and waited for 15 minutes and no one waited on us. No, they were not that busy and yes they knew we were there. I heard one employ tell another employ that they had a table for two and looked right at us. The employ ignored us and started cleaning tables on the other side. We tried to be patient but 15 minutes is to long to wait without any acknowledgement that you are there and they plan on serving you. I would not waste my time eating here because the customer does not come first. read more

We stopped off i40 for a bite. It's takeout only and doesn't look like much from the outside, but the folks inside were friendly and the food was good. We got half pound sloppy Joe's and they were enjoyable. The fries were fresh made but a little greasy for me. But my overall takeaway was positive and I'm glad we stopped there. read more

This establishment doesn't look like much when you pull up to it but LISTEN, this place is bad ass. It's a small little shack where it's take out only and it is everything plus more. We got the big ass bacon burger with jalapeños added. This is literally the best burger I've ever had in my life. Me and my boyfriend shared the burger and we are both stuffed. The meat is seasoned to perfection, the toppings are super fresh, the fries are a little pathetic but come on, who's going there for the fries because we didn't. If ever or whenever we drive through Thoreau will will def stop there. If this place was in a major city it def would be a major super hit. Once you order you wait outside and they bring your order to you. It's a really cool divey type place, only 6 minutes off the freeway. All meals come with whichever burger your choose with lettuce, onion, pickles and their "special" Mayo ketchup sauce and tomato, with French fries and a drink. For $18 me and my boyfriend are stuffed with left overs. The only critique we do have is that they need burger buns big enough to fit the big ass burger but honestly it's so delicious it wasn't that big of a deal. TRY THIS PLACE. We stopped into Big Ass Burger on our way back from Albuquerque to Arizona. We'd seen the sign on the 40 the prior week but couldn't get in touch by phone. The thought of the Big Ass Burger never left us. We stopped and to our great surprise, they were open!! The owners were working and were really nice people. We ordered a Hugh Ass Burger this bad boy comes with 2lbs beef, 6-8 pieces of bacon, 6-8 slices of cheese we also added green chili's. Of course, all of the usual burger add-ons were included. This thing was so big and beautiful not to mention the smell!! We decided to wrap it and take it home. As I was placing the coveted Huge Ass Burger in the trunk the odors wafting up into my olfactory lobes caused a fierce hunger from deep down inside me. I turned to my wife and said "let's go back in and get a snack!" We went back in and chose a Hot Ass Burger. This one was 1lb I believe, with lots of wonderful spicy jalapenos, YUM, cheese, and the usual add-ons. My wife and I snacked on this wonderfully flavorful burger at every fuel and rest stop back to Arizona. No, I didn't forget about the Huge Ass Burger in the trunk. My wife split half of the monster for dinner and saved the rest for later. Another tasty treat was the curly fries. They actually cut the fries fresh when you order them, no frozen bagged fries here.
