I was told they had the best lumber in this area especially compared to the big box stores. I don't know if this is true or not as the pieces of wood seemed the same to me honestly. But I am definitely not an expert on wood pieces lol! However, the staff was wonderful and really helpful! It is good they know what they are doing when it comes to measurements and advice what to do with any problems. Victor was friendly and wonderful in our initial asking to pre-order. Then John was absolutely a mathematical genius ( since it was obvious that this wasn't my best subject lol!) as he helped us figure out what we needed to order based on our measurements and checking that we had everything down. He was great and friendly and the BEST! He must have worked in the industry as a builder or contractor bc he knows what is needed in a project, answered my multitude of questions! Big B really has an asset in him working there. Unlike the big box stores, often you have to try to locate someone to help you and often you get that is not my department! So you are in good hands at Big B. And I notice many well known contractors and fencing companies buying from here. This is an ACE store and also makes keys. The only con in this store is it feels dusty and dirty. My skin just breaks into a rash bc I feel the dust and the shopping carts are filthy with layers of dust. Maybe bc they are a lumber yard and cut the wood there so it goes everywhere. They could wash the cart more often. Most people there are construction type of guys, and I didn't see any female customers come to think of it?! So men probably don't care bc they work with this on a daily basis. So the staff and lumber get 5 stars. Tip #1 you can get some cut pieces of leftover wood for free in the back. Tip #2- you bring your measurements and pictures of what you want or your project and they figure out how many you need. If I relied on my own math, we would have been in trouble! So John will help you figure out how much you need as I am sure the others working the desk can do the same thing so rely on them. Tip #3 - they are good about returns. I cannot believe the experience I had with this store. I placed an order online for pickup at my local store the following week, and after receiving an email confirmation that my order was ready, I called the store to see if my husband could pick it up on my behalf. What followed was a 16-minute call filled with being placed on hold three times and being told that they couldn't find my order number or the items in their system. Despite showing them my confirmation email, I was told they don't send out email confirmations. When I requested to speak to the manager, the person (Jan) claimed to be the manager and began cackling and laughing like a witch. I was so taken aback that I exclaimed, "Oh my gawd!" only to have her mock me with the same phrase before abruptly hanging up. I came here with my boyfriend because we needed to check out some wood to redo part of our fence. Everyone was cheerful from the first step inside the store. The cashier was really nice. The gentleman who was at the desk giving us quotes was also every nice and helpful as well. Then we headed towards the back of a the store, the lumber section outside. The gentleman who was very helpful and informative was named John. He answered all our questions since it was our first time building a fence, we had very little knowledge. I spent $75 here trying to support my local Ace Hardware store instead of going to Home Depot like I usually do. I'm new to the area. I forgot my $5 Ace Hardware coupon and the checkout gal told me if I brought it back same day she'd credit me. I did and then she said they weren't really Ace and couldn't honor it. She asked the manager and he refused to honor it saying they aren't technically Ace and my coupon was for Oakley Ace. Really dude?! I have a shopping problem and you just blew a bunch of money and a good paying customer for $5!? Poor customer service. And she told the guy in front of me he couldn't use his Ace Rewards card either. She then had a bad attitude and was wearing her mask as a neck warmer. No one once asked if they could help me. Never again. Returned everything I bought and I'm now going to Ace Hardware Oakley. Isn't Ace the place with the helpful hardware man? He must be out sick today. read more

I've always had a good experience here. I've been coming here for five years now. They arent the least expensive option in town, but they provide consistent service and get me taken care of quickly. The lumber yard crew is pretty solid and way more helpful than the big box stores. If you've got a project that requires lumber you owe it to yourself to skill the big box places and try Big B out. Their selection for hardware isnt as good of course but I can usually find what I need for plumbing and general around the house/handyman projects. read more

Big B Lumber/Ace Hardware has always had exactly what we needed and very professional, knowledgeable staff.

This place is fantastic. Lower prices than Home Depot and Lowes and somehow lower prices than the actual Ace down the Street. Friendly staff and all the odd ball parts one might need for quick fixes or larger repairs. I'll post more as we find more cool things about this place during our home owner escapades. read more

Every time I walk in here, I'm always greeted. Staff is very friendly. I asked for something and lady who worked there almost held my hand bringing me to where the item was. I also get my lumber here for my projects and I notice the lumber prices are cheaper for some and more expensive for others compared to the big box stores near them. Don't care though, their staff is why I come to them even if it's a small margin off. The boys in the back always messing around, having fun when I'm there but as professional as can be when I'm ready. Coming here for all my future projects. read more

I've been shopping here for years. Their hours have always been a mystery to me, and why they can't be open later, especially on the weekends, doesn't make any sense. The other day I was passing through Antioch when I stopped at the Sunset Drive Ace Hardware and I picked up a plumbing fitting. When I got to the job in Oakley, I discovered I had the wrong part. Assuming I could swap over to the correct part at the Oakley Ace, I went to this store with part and receipt in hand. I explained to the clerk I just needed to make an exchange. I grabbed the right part, returned to the counter, and then was told "we're not really an Ace Hardware, so I can't exchange the part." I walked out and went to Home Depot. They should remove the Ace sign. read more

Store really Needs a website, salesman says they have excellent lumber but when you see their old lumber inventory in person it should be purged as most is good enough for firewood, complete waste of time, better off going to Home Depot website, check their inventory save over 20% and you get what you want the first time. read more

Overall it's been a very positive experience. The staff is very helpful. If you have a question be sure to ask, everyone there is willing to help. It's one of the few places that has an extensive lumber yard. I found cedar here to make a raise bed vegetable garden. They even cut the it for me. read more

Typical crooks. They sold me marine plywood (skid Guard) at $125.00 per sheet, total 20 sheets, for my dock. Told me it would last for at least 10 years. That's why you pay twice as much for it. After 4 years it's peeling and chipping like cheap paint. I brought them pictures etc. They told my tough luck, they don't warranty it. That usually it last at least 5 years ( a completely different story when I was buying it). To call the company who makes Skid Guard. I called them Olympic Panel 800 782 7265. They told told me to screw off. They'll only warranty it for 6 months. Big Big knowingly sold me a defective product with no warranty. Crooks! read more

My contractor didn't pay Big B, instead of going after my contractor they kept calling me trying to get me to pay them, then they file a lien on my house. I gave them $10,000 All I could afford, to stop them for filling a lien, but that wasn't good enough for them. I am disable unable to work but do they care, he'll no all they care about is the money. Please don't shop at this place the owners don't care how they treat people, all they want is there money no matter how they get it. read more

I Like to support local business before the big chains. I went into Big B wanting to buy pressure treated 8' poles. Of the several poles they wanted to sell me only 2 were not split, chipped or other wise deteriorated. They said it was the end of the pallet and they were not going to open a new pallet until they sold all the below standard poles first. I suppose they were banking on the next customer not noticing the poor condition of the poles. Though they had an unopened pallet I was out of luck. That was a waste of my time. I wanted 10 poles at $10.61 each. I went to another store and got the quality product and service I needed and wanted. Thanks Big B for caring about the product quality and service customer. I have heard a lot about Big B Lumber and how great they are. Well my experience was not that. Since the reviews written on here they must have new staff because they are less than gracious. I have purchased lumber on two different occasions from them. The first time it was okay service, not anything that would make me not want to go back. On this second round I needed to purchase some more lumber for the same project and the Customer service was not good. I called yesterday to order the wood. Everything was good. Today I needed to change that order because the original order would not work. I called early at 7:30am the guy on the phone was irritated that I had to change the order and all he asked me for was my credit card information. I asked him what was the difference in cost and he said he don't know. When he put me on hold I could hear the conversation in the background and he asked if the driver left yet and someone said no, he then told them that I was changing the order in a very irritated voice. He came back on the phone and said he is going to have to try and catch the guy. I asked again what was the difference in cost and he said he did not know and needed the card. I gave it to him and he hung up. Later that morning the wood was delivered. I figured he would bring the receipt with him, however he did not. My brother in law needed a new piece for his drill and said he would get the receipt when he goes down there. When he arrived they were very rude to him. They did give him the receipt however he took his business elsewhere. My project was well over $1000. in wood alone and I am not happy with the service. I will not go back there again. read more
