Expensive, disappointing, had much better viet food. Was in the area for a haircut and I thought I would be environmentally conscious and not drive to another place. Not many options in the plaza, but Big Bites food pictures looked decent. First bad sign was the ice machine had an impounded sticker in bright yellow. Very visible from the counter where I ordered. Hope that has not been there long, but could be a sign that the owner doesn't think it is too important. Not many people but was still before the lunch rush. Felt like soup and ordered their beef stew. $10 for the stew plus a can of coke and tip puts me in the $15 range. Why did I press that 15% tip button for non table side service? Fancy point of service terminal you commonly see in the mountain view area. Then it went downhill. Came out reasonably fast, big white bowl and lots of onions. Soup was lukewarm warm at best. Beef chunks were overcooked and dry despite being a stew. French bread looked store bought. I was hungry bur couldn't finish it. Sorry, but this is worse than what I get when eating at Lee's sandwiches at 2x the price. Don't know about the Pho or other dishes, but won't be back to try. read more

Loved it. Granted there seemed to be a little glitch with the credit card system otherwise, I will be back so long as they are open. Sandwich was wonderful and I appreciated the ready made ones they had off to the side that were used as a visual menu. From the chicken that was rich in flavor to the bread that had just the right amount of crunch Big Bites delievered. The little cabbage salad that came with it was surprisingly full of flavor as I did not at first notice the peanuts and basil that went great with the dressing. Shrimp egg rolls, tasty and not greasy at all! Service was fantastic. The young lady up front and the gentleman who I believe may have been they owner were out working the floor in order to insure their customer's enjoyment. My biggest complaint is that I just found them and I will be out of town for the next three weeks. I guess I'll have to wait but the sandwich will definitely be worth it. Dining area could get really crowded on a busy day but I was fortunate when I went in as I beat the crowd. Hopefully come next spring they have outdoor seating. Awesome sandwich with very very fresh bread, lots of tender meat filling and fresh veggie toppings. The fact that it comes with a side salad (cabbage and peanuts) and a mild simple broth soup for $7.....what a deal. Exceptionally friendly and helpful crew of workers who consistently helped each customer with undivided attention and answered many varied questions with politeness and eagerness. The "salad" consisted of cabbage only and there was no actual lettuce in it. I literally could not eat any of it. My fiancee got the lemon grass curry where the chefs obviously were too lazy to properly cut up the vegetables, as there were WHOLE potatoes in it the size of a baseball. Big Bites is great. It is quite possibly one of my staples for vietnamese food in the peninsula (pho to chau and cam hung are a few others.) Their menu is simple and everything is made fresh by the chefs when you order. I particularly enjoy the simplicity of their food (reminds me of home cooked vietnamese food), their attention to detail and use of higher quality ingredients than most places. I believe part of it is because this is a small family establishment who really want to focus on delivering quality home cooked dishes to the average consumer. I've been here about 5 times so far, and have enjoyed my experience each time. You really can't go wrong with their bahn mi's. The bread is fresh, crackle and warm, smeared with a little of bit of mayo (which tastes a lot lighter than other places I've been to). The picked vegetables are crisp with a slight tartness and meat is better quality than most places I've been to. My favorites are the traditional vietnamese bahn min, grilled chicken and pork. Big bites is one of the few places in the peninsula that offers a beef lemongrass spicy noodle soup called Bun bo hue. It's slightly harder to find because the ingredients are a bit unique. It is not the best bun no hue I've had, but it certainly satisfies my craving when I don't want to drive to south San Jose. Pho is very simple, with mainly thinly sliced beef. The beef is gender and broth is hot. I like that the taste is clean and not salty like most places. Overall, clean and simple style vietnamese food. I recommend giving it a try. Get their bahn mi for sure. It makes for a refreshing and quick lunch snack. read more

Big Bites is a cute little spot right on the corner of a shopping center. They have a very friendly staff, and a nice selection of pho and bahn mi sandwiches. It's a quick place to grab dinner or lunch very conveniently. And, there is a wonderful mochi place right around the corner for dessert! read more

I really don't understand this place. Irritatingly disorganized. I have enjoyed the chicken sandwiches perhaps a dozen or so times, but two experiences really turned me off to the place. June: Busy day, place order, wait 20 minutes, inquire about my order, incomprehensible response. Wait 20 more minutes, inquire about my order, kid at the register didn't have any answers for me still (such as telling me when the sandwich would be ready), so I demanded my money back. About 5 people who ordered after me had already been served. This Week: I gave them a second chance. Arrive at 11:30, order a sandwich, hand cashier $20. Cashier opens drawer, walks to the back, discusses something with the owner, comes back and informs me that there is no change in the drawer, and would I mind paying with a card instead? Not necessarily a problem if I'd brought my wallet, which I hadn't. Lost a sale and a repeat customer. read more

I would say they are ok. The place looks nice and if you order Togo the food is packaged nicely with soup. That would be the highlight. As far as the taste I wouldn't say they are that good. I ordered a pork vermicelli and the pork tasted a little fake and the fish sauce didn't taste that great either. I might come back to try their soup but I probably would not order the port vermicelli again. They are a bit pricey than most Vietnamese food places I know. read more

I found this grossly overpriced for the quality. I mean, I'm happy to pay more for good food, but at $8-$10 per banh mi (when the norm is about $3), it should be AMAZING. But it was no better than some $3 ones I've had, so go elsewhere if you can. I also tried the bun bo hue and the menu says "topped with beef shank, ham hock, peppercorn chicken ham, shaved white onions, scallions, sweet basil, rau ram and cilantro." It had a few slices of beef and gia lua but that was about it. No basil, no rau ram, no hock. Such a disappointment. The lotus root salad was tasty though. read more

I've been a few times for bahn mi and I've really enjoyed their sandwiches. Excellent flavors, and you even get a salad with takeout. My chief complaint about bahn mi (I'm looking @ you Lee's) is too much bread, not enough filling. Love this place! I live right around the corner and I am so happy that I do! I come here at least once a week for Pho. Ive had the chicken, beef, and veggie all are great! Right now my favorite is the beef. Cant really speak to the rest of the menu as I go here for the pho, but my friends have told me that the sandwiches, noodle/rice bowls, and appetizers are all yummy. My friend and I came here for dinner on a weekday evening. This place is simple and clean, and offers healthy and freshly prepared Vietnamese food. On a cold night, though, we wished it had been a little warmer in the restaurant. We were still cold after eating hot noodle soups, and we never took our jackets off! They have a few specials on the blackboard in addition to the regular menu, which is nice. We tried the coconut rice milk from the special menu. It was delicious and not too sweet! We had the chicken pho and the Bun Bo Hue. The noodles were good, though not the best we've had. Their prices are definitely higher than typical Vietnamese restaurants. Many people in this area might not mind it since they use organic meats and vegetables on many menu items. I didn't like the skinny and short wooden disposable chopsticks. They always give splinters on my lip.... Anyway, they are too lightweight to eat noodles with, and my hand was getting tired before finishing my noodles. I hope they will buy some real chopsticks (even the plastic ones!) and reuse them soon! They have to wash the dishes anyway, so why not wash chopsticks, too!? It's better for the environment, as well as my hands and lips! Another thing I wasn't a fan of was the POS system on the iPad... It automatically asks you which percentage (15% or 20%?) you want to tip. There is an option to tip none if you look down below. You walk up to the counter and order here... so people like me (and people who order to go) might not want to tip...right? So overall, I like the concept of this new restaurant and hope they will succeed. If I'm there again, I'd probably get one of their sandwiches to go, but maybe not for $8.... read more

Beware when you pay for anything. They tack on an additional 3.5% surcharge on your bill. This is not indicated on the menu. They just tack it on and I imagine that few people notice it. When I asked they said the charge was for utensils etc. when I said I was eating in they just shrugged their shoulders. Will report to proper authorities. read more

This is a relatively new vietnamese place~ we had combination( pork& steamed chicken) and lotus root salad! Absolutely delish! I ate my salad in the movie theatre.. I couldn't take pictures and I couldn't even see what's exactly inside the salad.. But the salad tastes very refreshing, a nice hint of citrusy came with caramelized onion( I guess) was very balanced! And thinly shredded veggies just grabbed the dressing so well! What a treat!:-) I will def go back to get some pictures and figure out what is in the salad! Ahaha read more

i like a lot but i dont love. its easy to access from my work for when im nicking for real vietnamese. the items are authentic-ish so will do in a pinch. ingredients are fresh so thats a win. but because it is essentially gentrified vietnamese food, things are slightly different, and more expensive. read more

Very yummy!! I manage catering for my company, and each Wednesday we do group orders -- where 4 different restaurants drop off food at about the same time. It's a tall order to manage, but restaurants like Big Bites makes it all the more easier! Their presentation is excellent. They really think about dishes and pack them up well for catering needs. They offer delicious food, I personally tried one of their Vietnamese sandwiches --- which I LOVED! And even their sweet potato fries were great. The food was well received by all, and definitely one we will look forward to using again in the future! read more
