We used to drive all the way to San Jose or Cupertino just to eat here, so we were excited when they opened a location in Palo Alto. During our first few visits, everything felt clean, organized, and professional. Unfortunately, our most recent visit on a busy Friday evening was disappointing. The first issue was the waitlist. There was a sign-in sheet, but no one was actively managing it. A staff member would occasionally appear and seat people seemingly at random, which created confusion and didn't seem like an effective system for a busy dinner service. Once we were seated, no one came to take our order for about 15 minutes. We eventually had to flag someone down. We also asked about the difference between menu items S17 and S18 and learned that S18 simply includes bean sprouts and an extra egg roll. We were also asked whether we wanted fresh noodles, which seemed like an odd question since fresh noodles would naturally be our preference. The food was inconsistent as well. The chicken pho broth was overly salty, and the egg rolls didn't arrive until about 20 seconds after we ordered them, making us wonder whether they had been prepared for another table or were sitting under a heat lamp. On a positive note, the complimentary waffle dessert was a thoughtful gesture and was appreciated. Cleanliness was another concern. The restrooms had a strong urine odor and clearly hadn't been checked for some time. In the dining room, the table next to us remained uncleared for about 30 minutes after the guests left, which didn't leave a good impression. The service itself was polite, and our server was kind enough to point out that an 18% gratuity had already been included on the bill. Overall, we left disappointed because this location no longer reflects the quality and attention to detail we remembered from our earlier visits. I hope management addresses these operational and cleanliness issues, as we'd love to see this restaurant return to the standard that made us loyal customers. read more

We were eating, and my partner spilled water on the table then the waiter came and moved our food. He put his thumb in my bowl of pho where I only ate 1/5 of the meat that was in it and now I'm not going to eat it because gross. we even told him that he put his thumb into the bowl of food and I wouldn't eat it anymore and he didn't know what to do. Now, I lost my appetite when I originally came here super hungry. For the meat that I did eat, it should have been simmered.for longer because their oxtail was too tough. I left because my clothing was soaked. My partner still had to pay for the meal that I would eat after it was contaminated. We will not return. The food was okay. There are only three eggrolls if you order it as an appetizer. The three bean dessert was filling as it was quite large. We've been wanting to try this pho spot in downtown Palo Alto because every time we walk by, it smells amazing from outside. We came right at opening at 5 pm on a Monday. As soon as we walked in though, we noticed a pretty unpleasant smell inside. It smelled like a wet towel or damp carpet, and honestly it almost made us leave. We decided to stay and give the food a chance anyway. We ordered two different pho dishes and both were really good. I especially loved the fresh noodles. We also randomly got a side of fries, which ended up being surprisingly really good too. The best part though was the complimentary pandan waffle. I genuinely loved it!! The bathrooms could also be kept up a little better. Kid ordered Rare USDA Choice Flap Meat, Brisket, and Beef Shank Pho (24 hours bone marrow soup with option of fresh noodle, regular noodle, or egg noodle) for a triple hit of protein and a Thai Iced Tea while I opted for a smaller lunch of Pork Egg Rolls (pork, taro, and carrot) and a Vietnamese Salted Cream Coffee (equivalent of 3+ shots of espresso!). All tasted exactly as it should. The interior of the restaurant was surprisingly roomy, offering plenty of tables. We experienced no wait to be seated, but service was slightly lacking, with us having to get the staff's attention rather than them proactively coming to us. Note: an 18% service charge is automatically added to your bill, but you can ask to remove it if you wish. The food was amazing. There is no shortage of pho places in the area but this one is by far our favorite. Service is fast, friendly and efficient. Our favorites are the chicken breast pho and the rare beef flank and boneless short rib combo. I personally like the flat noodle but I can vouch for the regular and egg noodles as well. We got to the restaurant 30 minutes before closing, they still took our party of three adults and three small children. We ordered their special of 2 for 1 cocktails: a cosmopolitan and a lemon drop martini. The drinks were phenomenal, Bob at the bar did an excellent job and he was nice enough to deliver the drinks personally to our table! I would totally be back here just for cocktails. In addition, we ordered two different pho dishes: the oxtail pho (item P10) and the 1lb bone-in beef short rib pho (item P7). We were not disappointed! The meat was very tenderized, it had a fall off the bone texture, and had great flavor overall. We also ordered the shrimp and pork spring rolls (item A6) and these were the freshest we've ever had at any restaurant. I must say the star of the night, was the garlic and fish sauce chicken wings (item A3) which we were spectacle of at first, but they were the best dish. They finished the night by giving us a free dessert which looks like a waffle with a green inside. Mary was our waitress and took care of us the entire dinner. Mary was extremely attentive, very professional, and very patient with our table which had three toddlers. She was great at anticipating the needs for our table; by bringing us additional plastic silverware for the toddlers, as well as extra dishes, and napkins, and hot sauce for the table. Her communication was clear and professional without being overbearing. We would come back just for her service. Wish I had taken pictures of the food but it was so good, we devoured it immediately! They already have a sauce cup mixed with sriracha and hoi sin sauce prepped, which I noticed they didn't have any condiments on the table. Honestly it is cleaner that way too haha. Digging into the pho, the broth is very clean! Noodles were fresh, beef was soft. The beef here was quite enjoyable because it wasn't too tender at all. The rolls were also pretty good! Very clean. The peanut sauce was the most enjoyable of the 3 sauces they had to offer. Overall, the experience was pretty good. It's pretty expensive for pho though ($20). Hubs, kiddo, and dad went with the Special Combination Pho which they seemed to enjoy - especially good on a chilly day. Mom ordered the Grilled Pork Vermicelli - quite a bit of meat and the it was a good size portion. She enjoyed her bowl and had some to take home. I decided to go with the Sizzling Steak. Pros - I like how the dish stayed hot since it was on a sizzling platter and the pate with the onions on the bread was yummy. However, the sauce on the platter was a tad too salty which made the steak salty. Also, wished the steak arrived more rare rather than well since it continues to cook in the platter. Also ordered an ube coffee, which I enjoyed as it was not too sweet. Overall, service was good in that they were attentive and ensured our water glasses were filled. The menu is extensive with drinks, desserts, appetizers, n of course different pho options including chicken, still haven't tried it yet, next time. We ordered the beef pho with a variety of meats n you can choose different kinds of noodles, number 1 on the menu. Other dish was the cold vermicelli with bbq pork. Even though there were 3 of us we still couldn't finish the 2 items, good portions. The soup was tasty not over salty. The Cold vermicelli version was good but the pork could have had more seasoning.
