There are lots of different items included, so you can figure out which you like best. The tofu is kind of bland, but the vegetarian sauce included is amazing, I could drink it. I usually dip the tofu in the sauce, wrap it in rice paper with cucumber, and bean sprouts, and dip the rolls into more sauce. The presentation of the packaging for to-go orders is a very nice touch! Wanted to get Vietnamese food in Santa Clara instead of driving to SJ and found this place in yelp. As soon as I walked in I smelled the pho and saw a lot of Asians so I knew it would be good. I ended up getting the bo la loc. It came with a generous amount of veggies and rice paper to make spring rolls. My friend got the bun thit nuong and really liked it. Decided to try something new in the area and can't believe I haven't been here before. Been on the hunt for some good banh canh with light broth and not the thick kind, and it was a delight!! Stopped in for quick lunch and was pretty happy to find a good Vietnamese spot in the area! Now I don't need to drive to east SJ every time I have a craving. Their nem cuon was super tasty! I have no notes but the pork was flavorful and the dipping sauce it came with was also delicious. Their bun bo hue wasn't bad either, the meat portion were generous but I kinda wish they gave more noodles. The noodles were bouncy and chewy, which were my fave part of the BBH! The soup could have had a bit more spice/flavor to it, but it's nothing a bit of fish sauce/jalapeno can't fix. A small detail I liked was the cabbage being very finely shredded -- that way the cabbage didn't take over the soup and softened up nicely. We also really enjoyed the pork chop rice plate too. I've introduced a few people to this restaurant and they've all enjoyed it! A great introductory to Vietnamese cuisine with something for everyone. I tried their vegetarian banh xeo, which was a unique take from the usual crepe shape that I'm used to. Tasty filling and crispy shell. I haven't been impressed the past few times I've gone and feel like the flavors aren't as good anymore. The most recent time I went with my friend and she got the OJ and asked for no ice. The inside is huge with two sections separated by an archway. Not sure if they do hot pot but their tables are definitely set up for it if they ever add it to the menu lol For a late lunchtime on a Saturday, it was really busy. Luckily we were seated right away. We ordered: P8 - Filet and brisket pho; the SO said the broth tasted a bit lighter and sweeter than he liked. He liked that there was a good portion of meat. B1 - Banh cuon dac biet; this was A LOT of food and satisfied my craving. The nuoc mam and chili paste (super spicy) were really tasty. Another instance where I wish Yelp had a half star system in addition to the whole stars. Frankly, after coming back here off and on for many years, Tay Ho is a solid 3.5+ stars in my humble opinion. I can get slightly better and slightly cheaper Vietnamese food in South San Jose but it is not in Santa Clara, which is closer to where I usually am. My favorite dish is their Rice dish with BBQ pork. I almost always order this dish. I also hear their Bun Bo Hue is excellent and actually has blood, which is what someone intimately familiar with this noodle soup would expect. Service has been solid over the years, and it looks like they have actually expanded into the physical space that was adjacent to the right side of their original space. Parking is shared in this good sized strip mall location on El Camino, so this should not be a challenge regardless of when you choose to dine here. read more

Started off with the combination pho and it was excellent. The noodles were the dried rice noodles and the broth was very flavorful. The meats were tender too! This was literally utmost comfort in a bowl, from the perfectly seasoned broth, copious amounts of meat, to chewy rice noodles, I saw no flaws. Cabbage, sprouts, jalapeño were all fresh. On the side came a bowl of soup with green onion. The food was delicious! Fluffy rice and tender, juicy pork made me smile. I gave the ham to my brother-in-law since I don't really care for them too much. The fried sweet potatoes were the best thing on this plate. The banh cuon was mostly flour. Hardly any ground pork or mushrooms in the filling. My daughter's beef ball pho was just ok. The broth was extremely sweet for Vietnamese pho. If she was willing to eat something else, I would avoid ordering pho at this place. Service was also just ok! Would I go out of my way to return? Most likely not! read more

Was craving the rice flour rolls and a friend recommended this place. Loved the combo plate for my first visit so I could figure out what I'd want to get next time. The rice flour noodles were fresh and soft and I loved the mixture of different things to try. Gave it a 4/5. Hubs ordered the P12 which was the equivalent of a no 1 at other places hahahahah. The broth was rich and deep. The meats were soft. My only complaint was the noodles didn't have that nice chewy bounce to it. He says we could have paid $1.50 extra for "fresh" noodles but that seems like a rip. You should just serve it with fresh noodles! The service was fairly attentive given it was a busy lunch crowed . We ordered the BBQ Pork Chops, Shredded Pork, and Pork Cake over broken rice, BBQ Pork with Shrimp Vermicelli Bowl, and BBQ Pork, Shredded Pork, and Pork Cake over broken rice. The food was ready in about 15 minutes, which was pretty quick considering the restaurant about half full. We appreciate them wrapping the shredded pork and vegis separately versus to just throwing them in a box. The BBQ meats were kinda of salty and on a dry side. I went to a maker's market nearby, and my husband saw this place. We were too hungry to go to our usual Vietnamese place, so we gave this place a try. We're so glad that we came here! I tried the chicken pho, and my husband got the banh xeo. The chicken pho was excellent - like the best chicken noodle soup you've ever had but with delicious Vietnamese spices. The banh xeo was soooo crispy, and it was seasoned very well too! I also got the pho and the bo kho to go, which were both good as well. They're not quite as good as Pho San Jose, but they were pretty good. Perhaps I have to try the pho and bo kho in the restaurant to really see how good they are. This is one of my favorite Vietnamese spots and I'm very fortunate to live within walking distance. Service is always fast and the food comes out fresh. I've had their pho and it's excellent, but I think the star of their menu is their grilled pork. It's so tender and flavorful and it pairs perfectly with rice, or even better, in a vermicelli bowl with their egg rolls. The combination of the savory pork, fresh veggies, and their home made fish sauce with chili pasta is unmatched. Dropping my rating from 5 stars to 3. The biggest change has been the pricing, which has increased significantly since my first review, easily 30% higher. At this point, the menu is priced more like a sit-down restaurant where you'd expect a higher level of service to match. That said, everything else remains pretty much the same. The food is consistent, but it's comparable to many Vietnamese spots on the east side of San Jose, where prices are noticeably lower and service is similarly minimal. With the current pricing, it really makes you pause and ask whether the food justifies the cost. For me, that's starting to feel less clear. read more
