I love to eat BBQ--and make it at home--so of course I had to give Big Daddy's BBQ & Brews a try! My dry cleaner and alterations shop is in the same plaza, making it the perfect excuse to stop in. I actually visited back in May and meant to write this review then. Mak was my server, and the servers were having a friendly Google review contest. She gave me a QR code, which I just found again! I'm more of a Yelp gal, though, and I promised her a Yelp review--so here it is, better late than never! Mak was awesome and helped me choose my meal. I ordered the one-meat plate with two sides: brisket, brisket chili and mac & cheese. The brisket was smoked perfectly--full of flavor, with just the right amount of bark while still being tender and juicy. Both the chili and mac & cheese were delectable too! I also enjoyed a glass of wine since it was on special for happy hour. The restaurant was quaint and clean, with a fun rustic atmosphere that matched the BBQ theme perfectly. I hate giving less than a 5-star review but while most of the food tasted pretty good, the brisket was not trimmed at all and had a ridiculous amount of fat- top and bottom. The chicken was really hard like it had been cooked for hours but just served. The tri-tip was the savior of the meal as it fork-split and tasted really good. I swear that I tasted liquid smoke but I can't be sure. The Mac and Cheese was really good but thr slaw needed more spicing. Overall, it was not worth the $100 bucks we paid for two meals. read more

Our first time here. Won't be our last. I got the 3 meat 2 side plate (brisket, chicken thigh, pulled pork, potato salad and coleslaw. She got the 2 meat 2 side plate (pulled pork, jalapeño cheddar sausage, Mac n cheese and coleslaw. The chicken was just ok. Even with adding the delicious bbq sauce the chicken was dry. First of all Mac was a total sweetheart! Fantastic service all the way around. When my wife had to take a call she gave us space, and then when it kept going, she came over and we ordered in whispers, that was so respectful and kind. But the food, my goodness... the brisket was the most tender I've ever had, so tasty too. The jalapeño cheddar sausage was great too, not too spicy at all. We ended with the apple caramel cobbler and it was amazing. We will definitely be back, and asking for Mac to wait for us again. read more

I think for the price that you're paying, the quality and quantity are not worth it. I had the one meat bbq platter, and chose brisket for the meat, and cajun fries and garlic mashed potatoes for the side. The brisket was extremely salty, and I had to drown in it their sweet bbq sauce to make it palatable. The platter also only came with three pieces, which I guess is typical with other bbq places too, but the size is a bit smaller in comparison to others. The cajun fries were good and was the right portion for me, but it sucks that they add a $2 charge for adding cajun seasoning to regular fries. Garlic mashed potatoes were okay, but it was a small portion. So for just my order, it was $21.99. My husband got the two-meat platter: brisket and pulled pork with bacon mac and cheese and potato salad as his sides. While the brisket was extremely salty, the pulled pork was bland. Mac and cheese was okay, but he did like the potato salad, again, the sides were smaller in portion. Obviously his was more expensive than my order. We had R&R bbq delivered, and their bbq quality was much better and more worth it for the price. I don't mind paying good money for good food, but Big Daddy's just missed the mark for us. What an eclectic and fun little place in Meridian! We were quickly seated with a wonderful, hardworking server that doted on us and made us feel immediately welcome. She had a lot of tables and never seemed to be frustrated or overwhelmed - I was actually quite shocked (because I would be!). We treated ourselves to one of the Happy Hour appetizers - Bourbon Brisket Mac & Cheese and a Hefe on tap. Both were served quickly and were a slice of heaven. That mac portion was perfect as an appetizer. I ordered the chicken thigh sandwich, hubby got the pulled pork sammie. Both came out HOT and were super fresh. The meat literally melted as soon as I took a bite. The only preference would be to have a full thigh or pulled meat as the sliced thigh was a little clunky - but still delicious. Pulled pork was very juicy and love the option to add whatever BBQ you would like. The fries were heavily peppered (make sure to grab a toothpick on your way out the door) and delicious, the onion rings were dipped in a beer batter that was crispy. Overall, a really great meal!!!! My few gripes are that refills were non-existent, most likely because they had very few servers. Odd that the Carolina BBQ sauce literally looked like brown water so we skipped it - bummer because we really wanted to try it. I have never seen a Carolina that thin!!! The portions for sandwiches are perfect for a meal, which I appreciated and the prices are pretty good for the quality that you get. We are looking forward to going again soon. read more

We were anxious to check the new BBQ place out, so we went for lunch. Pulled pork on a bun was dry bun with small scoop of dry pulled pork on it. (A variety of sauces were on the table. Three stars for food but upgraded to four stars for several reasons: * Might be the best BBQ in the greater Boise area (grading on a curve) * Staff is very nice * Ambience is traditional hole in the wall BBQ joint I typically grade BBQ joints by the brisket, without extra sauce and before I've eaten anything else. The meat here is solid -- as it turns out the best thing I had. It was tender with some fat and not too much salt in the rub. Four stars for the first course. The St. Louis pork ribs were not as good. There was a generous potion of meat but I felt like it could have stayed in the smoker longer. I expect the meat the pull off the bone with a gentle tug and this took more effort. Flavor was solid but not exemplary. The smoked prime rib divided the table. Some thought it was excellent: so tender you could "cut it with a spoon." Others thought it was under smoked -- like standard prime rib. I liked it but didn't love it. The pulled pork was disappointing. The flavor was fine but a little dry. I think it needed a bit more fat and maybe even was overcooked. The hotlink was spicy goodness. The casing had the right amount of crunch and the meat was moist. For the sides, the fries, Mac n cheese, and slaw were all quite good. The mash potatoes were meh. The beans were too sweet for my taste. Speaking of sweet, the bbq sauce was sweeter than I like. I mixed in some of the spicy to cut it. My husband and I have been ordering from Big Daddy's for many years! BUT MOST of all their food is delicious! Our favorites are the Prime Rib Dip, and the Pulled Pork Sandwiches! Of COURSE the Rib dishes! And when Covid hit we just started having delivery instead of eating in ANYWHERE and continued this service! You pay a little extra for a baked potato side but when your craving a baked potato, money is no object. The ribs were delicious and had a boat load of meat on them. Let's start with this. Even if you think you are a big eater, the 3 meat platter isna lot of food. I had brisket, tri-tip and smoked turkey, along with coleslaw and beans. The smoked turkey was outstanding, with great smoke flavor and was still moist. The brisket, which can be a tough piece of meat if not done properly, was also very tender and juicy, with a great smoke ring. The tri-tip was good, but a step behind its two other meat partners. The coleslaw was sweet and tangy at the same time. The beans were thick and rich and were stellar All around great bbq with great service. I just took my family out to dinner at big daddy's and my 6 year old daughter ordered the sliders. Half way through her 2nd one she set it down and we noticed a large portion of MOLD on the bottom of the bun! We usually like this place and I probably wouldn't be as angry if it was served to me versus my 6 year old! We're praying the slider she ate prior wasn't moldy as well and she doesn't get sick. If so, you're in luck, as you can get your "Kansas City fix" at Big Daddy's Barbecue, located in nearby Meridian. As you enter the restaurant, you'll be greeted by a friendly "meeter/greeter" staff member who will cheerfully seat you. You'll also notice the "specials" on the "old school" blackboard, the somewhat rustic decor, and he full-service bar at the rear of the restaurant. We loved the corrugated steel that serves as wallpaper on the walls, which adds to the "rustic" and barbecue atmosphere of the restaurant. As you enter the restaurant, you'll be immediately greeted with an "old school" blackboard which announce the current specials. We loved the horse shoes, which are set in the "good luck" mode. The restaurant has a definite "sports bar" theme, as the decor is rustic, there is a full-service bar, and there are many television monitors around the dining room. You have to know this will be GOOD BARBECUE as each table is set with a roll of paper towels, along with three varieties on in-house-made barbecue sauce. Those little amenities are the mark of a restaurant who knows all about barbecue. Alright... with the sauce, you can choose between "House" sauce, "Mild" or my preference, "Spicy." All are made in-house, and all are good, but tonight, I went with the spicy variety, and I wasn't disappointed. The menu offers three styles of barbecue: Kansas City, Carolina and Memphis. What more could you ask for? OK... maybe Texas? From the "Platters" section of the menu, my friend ordered a "One Meat and Two Sides." Her choice of meat was pulled pork, and she smoked green beans along with "Smashed Garlic Potatoes" as her two sides. How much would like the bet the potatoes were locally grown, as southwestern Idaho is the "potato capitol" of the United States. My friend raved about her dinner, as her green beans were tender, smoky and full of flavor. Like the pulled pork on my "The Big Daddy," her's was juicy, smoky and tender. She had actually ordered gravy on her "Smashed Potatoes" and her order arrived without gravy, but with a timely word to our friendly server, a bowl of gravy quickly arrived. The bowl of gravy made her dinner complete! From the "Sammies" section of the menu, I finally went with "The Big Daddy," as it seemed to be the "signature" offering on the menu, as it shares the name with the restaurant. The "Smoked Burgers" section truly tempted me, and I spent about 10 minutes deciding on my order. The menu describes "The Big Daddy" as, "Spicy sausage link, chopped brisket and pulled pork, piled on a toasted hoagie. The dish comes with one side, and my choice was "Smashed potatoes" with gravy. This is a BIG sandwich, which will satisfy a Big appetite! It starts out with a toasted hoagie roll and the foundation of the sandwich is a large, smoked hot link, Cajun style. Yes, it's spicy and hot, but "doable" for just about anybody who appreciated fine barbecue. On top of the large link, you'll find a generous helping of smoked pulled pork and brisket. Wow! Such an amazing sandwich! The hoagie roll was lightly buttered and perfectly toasted, and the meat was "melt in your mouth" smoked, flavorful and tender. And the "Smashed Potatoes" with brisket gravy... where do I begin to describe such goodness? I can start by saying the side started out with red potatoes, seasoned with garlic, perfectly cooked and mashed, with little bits of skin mashed in, which something I simply love. The amazing mashed potato side dish was covered with brisket gravy, and sprinkled with green onions. Oh yeah!!! My friend and I enjoyed our delicious dinners, and enjoyed the amazing service that Big Daddy's Barbecue provides. This amazing restaurant should be a "go-to" for anyone who savors delicious barbecue in the greater Boise are. So I always start off my bbq reviews with a disclaimer that I am a bbq snob and I usually am disappointed with eating bbq out only because I have mastered the craft myself. Well not true with Big Daddy's. I came her last week with my daughter and son in law and had a great experience. I love the fact that this is a locally owned BBQ joint and really delivered on the books or should I say meat... Looking over the menu and reviews I already knew I was having brisket and for a little variation I had a jalapeño sausage out on the side. The brisket was super good and has great smoke flavor. However it was a little on the drier side which I like more moist but either way still retained great flavors. For sides I had the slaw and fries and both were super delicious as well. I really enjoyed the spicy bbq sauce which had great spice but not too overpowering. These fries could be a drug in themselves how good they were and the slaw was as well. My son in law got the Big sriracha sandwich which consists of brisket, pulled pork, cheddar and pepper jack plus their sriracha bourbon sauce. This looked so good and he gets this every time they come and loves every bite. I know on my next trip this is what I will be getting for sure. I got this order as curbside pick-up,so I can't really speak to the atmosphere, but the parking lot looked great and clean! :) The chili I ordered was brisket without bean that was very flavourful, but for me, it was slightly too acidic. The portion sizes were good and warm, and the prices were moderate. Packaging was great as well.
