I moved to Boise 16 months ago and have seen the signs for Big Daddy's......but for some reason, never stopped in. Now I feel like I've been missing out for 16 months. I lived in the Carolinas so my palette is very particular to GOOD BBQ. Big Daddy's nailed it. Sandwich bread was perfectly toasted/grilled. Brisket was tender and flavorful. My husband will only eat bbq from here. We went the other night for a quick bite to eat. My husband had a pulled pork burger with fries. Burger sizable. Hubs said very tasty. I had a brisket melt with potato salad. Their potato salad is super yummy - you can taste every ingredient. Clean and refreshing. Well, if you like that, then come have Brenda be your server at Big Daddy's. I remembered right away, as she pointed to our table, why I never wanted to come back. Her snootiness is quite tangible. The food is decent enough- always just a bit cold (not sure why) .....guess it wants to match that one server. The other server was so sweet & we heard her thank her guests for coming in. Customer service: 5 stars. Very alert, proactive, happy, kind. We were seated immediately and the food came out really quickly! The whole atmosphere was fun and friendly. I'd go again just for that. Everything felt authentic. Made me miss the south! The food was yummy, but we didn't get as much food as other BBQ places for the price we paid. Meat was a little fatty, but tasted good. We have driven by this place on several occasions and have never went inside. A family friend told us about this place so my wife wanted to try it. We went in around 5:00 PM, and were able to catch Happy Hour. Our waitress was Ngyen, and she was outstanding. She brought us some sampler beers and we both had a pint of beer. My wife had a scotch ale, and I had a peanut butter stout. For appetizers we ordered Brisket Street Tacos and Tater Pigs. Both were great, but the tacos were outstanding. Next time I come here that is what I want. We ordered the three meat sampler with brisket, pulled pork, and tri tip. It was great, our sides were baked beans, and smashed potatoes. Everything was great. Our waitress made it that much more enjoyable. If you are ever in the area I would suggest you stop in and enjoy a meal. read more

Pretty decent bbq considering we're not in texas. Decent (generous, actually) portions at a reasonable price. Wait staff was fine, no complaints there. The pulled pork was quite good. Also the garlic mashed potatos and mac and cheese. The brisket was very fatty and needed to spend a LOT more time in the smoker so minus one star for that. This place is better than just "ok" but if you are looking for really amazing, Texas bbq this isn't the place. If you aren't hungry before getting here you will be as soon as you step out of your car and smell the heavenly scent of smoked meat and bbq! If you are hungry, the smell is going to make the wait for your food seem like an eternity. But it's well worth the wait! Lunchtime on a Wednesday wasn't busy at all, but we were seated directly next to the only other full table in the restaurant. More about the restaurant: a few TVs on the walls playing everything from golf, to a car restoration show, and HGVT. The music was typical country, but was low enough that it truly was background music and low enough for us to have a conversation (seems to be a rarity in bbq restaurants anymore). Three different kinds of bbq sauce on the table and a whole role of paper towels for messy fingers. I got the Southwest salad with brisket. The menu does not say it has cheese on it. I verified with the waitress that it did not come with cheese. Guess what? It came out with cheese. They were very apologetic and offered to remake it for me. Otherwise it was a beautiful and delicious salad. The jalapeno ranch it came with was pretty good, but I prefer mixing the bbq sauces to make my own dressing. Hubby got the PB&J sandwich - which was a jalapeno & cheddar smoked sausage, pulled pork and brisket in a hoagie roll, topped with coleslaw. It came with a side and based on the waitress's suggestion he went with the mac & cheese w/bacon. We both loved the brisket. Great flavor, a bit salty but what we'd expect with a good rub. His pulled pork was the best! Great smoke ring, still moist and super flavorful. He liked the sausage, but thought it was a little light on the cheese (compared to other spicy-cheese sausages we've had other places). Nothing special about the coleslaw and the mac & cheese was really good, but we weren't sure where the bacon was. No hint of a smoky or bacon flavor and definitely no chopped up bacon in the melted cheese. They have five or six beers on draft and I saw a sign saying they had wine and bottled beers also available, but didn't see any menu or list of those. Being a bbq restaurant, my hubby went straight for the sweet tea. His comment was that it wasn't bad, a little weak, as if they have it hot or at room temp and then add it to ice to make it watered down a bit. But it didn't stop him from getting a refill to-go. Overall, great food. Eat there and you will leave smelling of bbq smoke (as I do now). I also commented to the hubby on our way to the car that the smell again made me hungry. He thought I was crazy after all we'd just had to eat. "Hungry" might have been the wrong word. It was more like I can't wait to try more off of their menu! So much so, that I mapped the distance to my work and found it would be completely do-able in the near future! A sign on Cherry advertises Happy Hour. It was two long slices and most of it was fat. I didn't end up with much meat. I wish they would have made up for that by giving me more brisket. AS I was driving by tonight, I thought "tonight's the night"! and quickly pulled in. I've been looking on Yelp and I've wanted to try the stuffed tots, and they didn't disappoint. I needed to get "to-go" since my family was at home. My daughter, Britney and I, sat inside, had some good laughs, took pics with the sweet and spicy sauces (she's way more spicy than sweet-- don't let her fool ya!), and played tick tac toe with the crayons and kids menu that they provided to us. The inside is on the smaller, yet perfect size. The place is decorated pretty cool, with stuff everywhere, but it all works. The staff was friendly. My daughter asked about their logo, and the waitress explained that is a replica of her dad, the owner aka "Big Daddy" which my daughter thought was cool. As I said, we got our food to-go, which took no time at all. The bundled up each meal in a styrofoam box, with plastic silverware and 2oz. plastic cups of extra sauce. We ordered: A chili cheeseburger with fries (you can select any side, a mushroom swiss burger with upgraded stuffed tots ($6.99 as an app), a kids meal ($6.50) with upgraded ($.50) mac n cheese with bacon, and brisket nachos (french fries). Big enough to share and still be satisfied (I dived in before the picture don't judge). Got all 7 sauces, just because I was curious. The sweet heat was the winner. The fact that I can smoke a better brisket is a huge red flag! We used to be frequent diners and have seen this restaurant's quality slip big time. Please read your reviews, don't hang on the coattails or rave reviews of yesteryear. The fading "best BBQ restaurant in Meridian" stickers didn't mean a damn thing today. Restaurant- Located in a strip mall on Cherry, you'd drive by it and never know it was there. Interior is sort of country style. There is quite a bit of damaged drywall that hasn't been repaired lately, which is off putting. Menu- It's not huge! The food SHOULD be stellar given the simplicity! It's smoked meat on salad or bread or by itself! Food- I smoke meat myself and I can tell you beyond a shadow of a doubt that brisket shouldn't be dry and salty. The rub was WAY too heavy and completely kills the smoked flavor. The quality of the meat is very important with smoking and the brisket and sausages I ordered didn't seem to be of a high quality. This is an unfortunate complaint to have because when I go out, I expect to eat better prepared food than what I can do at home. Our pickle fries appetizer was one mass of batter and pickle as well. It was admitted that the freezer that they are kept in is dying and the pickle fries had thawed before being dropped in the oil. 86 them instead of serving them as a huge mass to an already jaded customer. My wife's salad included the butt of the lettuce. That's just flat out LAZY. Customer service- The servers apparently knew about the busted freezer but let us hang anyway. Thank goodness for them being free from our previous poor experience! That's just poor customer service right there, pushing poorly prepared food and not warning people. No food should be stored in a freezer that can't keep food frozen! And why are you freezing the fries and pickle fries? Overall- I smoke better meat with baby's first pellet smoker on my patio; do better than my Treager. read more
