This was my first time ordering delivery here, and I was really excited to since the closest soul food restaurant is in Palm Springs. I ordered the catfish dinner with Mac and cheese and candied yams, two sides that, in my opinion, can make or break a soul food place. The fish was tasty, if a little overly salty. The sides were disappointing; the noodles for the Mac and cheese were so overdone they were mush in my mouth, and the yams were heavy on the nutmeg and stringy. I couldn't finish either. Worst BBQ I ever had in my life. I paid $21 for two beef ribs with beans and cornbread. Everything was extra three day old. It was not like the pictures on yelp where they are juicy beans. These were stiff and hard and you could build a mountain out of them. They were at least three days old, the ribs were a joke there were three bites on one rib and two bites on the other rib. It was 90% bone 10% beef rib and it tasted old and dry. Then I made the mistake of getting the three piece catfish for $10 it was not three pieces it was three slivers two bytes per piece what a joke hard, dry, and burnt. cornbread that crumbled like sand when I picked it up definitely five day old. When you're married into Texas, you learn to appreciate the real BBQ stands. It's not so far out there to have amazing BBQ from a little roadside shack, driving down the interstate in Texas, but we're not in Texas, this is California. There's another BBQ joint in Hemet, names have been excluded to protect the innocent, that I've heard is super bomb, but don't pass this little gem by. Doesn't look like much from the street, aside from the turkey leg sign, but worth the try. I've tried coming here a couple times and always missed the hours or the day but now I've had it! Highly recommended, beef rib with a lot of meat, and so tender, so good. Some spicy sausage, side of beans and coleslaw that makes you smile. Today was our second time trying Big Daddy BBQ and We were more than pleased both times. Best potato salad I've had since the way my great grandma made it. So far we have tried the chicken sandwich, pulled pork and today we tried the Brisket. They do not over smoke their meat and the BBQ sauce is on point! Oh and the sweet tea is the real deal! Alright where to begin. This is the "Boneless" chicken sandwich. As you can see very clearly that is false.... the fries are sad floppy, under cooked glad raw potatoes can't hurt you.. but raw chicken can? The Owner specific (Owner) is Nice though he wasn't there he assisted me with some issues that occurred at the window. Angelos the employee did not say I'd be charged for extra bbq sauce instead he charged me anyways without the slightest inclination that I was being charged. Haven't tried the beans kinda scared too. The sauce is good(very runny) doesn't hold into the sandwich unfortunately. I'm not sure how to help the folks that get the "boneless" chicken sandwich other then eat extremely slowly or you know you might destroy a tooth swallow a bone choke on a bone. I FINALLY had a chance to give them a try. overall it was okay, and I prefer small private businesses over chain restaurants, but the truth is I found it to be a step down from a place like Dickey's. I ordered the brisket plate, which came with two sides. Mac & Cheese is a big thing for me at BBQ joints, but sadly they didn't have any ready to serve, and since options were limited and I wasn't feeling any other choice except baked beans, I just doubled that up. It was around $12-13 iirc and I don't mind paying, but I was a bit disappointed with what I got for the $$. I got two scoops of beans (they were good though indistinguishable from canned beans from the grocery store), and some brisket in a bun (similar to the small grocery store brand burger buns). The amount of brisket was noticeably small and a bit dry, and that's the part that you're paying for. It hit the spot for lunch that day, but I came away feeling like I wouldn't want to pay that price again for what I got. Maybe if the mac is good and they piled the meat on some more, theoretically. The corn muffins was cold and burnt, the ribs was fully burnt I couldn't even bite it then the Mac & cheese was soggy. I feel like I got what ever remaining pieces was left since they was closing rather than they telling me we don't have any more. I'm a bbq Pitmaster myself and always like trying other Pitmasters food and support local small businesses. We ordered the sample platter which contained brisket pulled pork a piece of chicken and two ribs with two sides, beans and potato salad. We also ordered a side or Mac and collard greens. I hate to say but nothing was good sadly. I really wanted it to be good but it wasn't. Starting with brisket we were expecting brisket slices but instead received greasy chopped brisket. Pulled pork and chicken was dry. The ribs were probably the best out of everything. The Mac was bland and tasted like a liquid cheese. The potato salad tasted like reesers but perhaps doctored up. Collard greens tasted fishy??? The beans tasted like bush's baked beans again doctored up and added smoke flavor maybe from the the smoked meat scraps. And to top it off the sweet tea tasted like it was made from faucet water and a lot of sugar. Don't let the bad reviews on this place turn you away! I used to travel to LA to get BBQ and let me just say, this little family owned place is very good. My husband got the brisket sandwich and the meat was very moist with good flavor. So no overpowering rubs or need to put extra sauce to give it flavor. I got the hot links which were moist as well! Which, for links that's not always easy to do. I also loved how they didn't load the sandwich with sauce, they leave it so you can do that on your own. Ok, so now the good part. I tried the greens and I'm always afraid to get them because I haven't had many I'm too impressed with unless someone's grandma made it thats had a recipe for 100 years lol. So we are back in Hemet, we were here about a week ago and drove past Big Daddy's BBQ. Meant to stop but ended up eating at Soboba. This time we drove up to San Jacinto specifically to try Big Daddy's BBQ. The beef brisket was moist and flavorful. The potatoes salad and bacon baked beans were good but nothing out of the ordinary. The a la carte hot link, served in a hot dog bun, was SPICY. Unfortunately the BBQ sauce that comes on the side, in a small styro cup, was cold. Also the corn bread muffins were yesterday dry. The BBQ dishes were mediocre, the potato salad looked dark and unfresh, and WHAT?? Sliced sandwich bread served with the combo? Whoever was preparing the plate should have at least felt the meat for tenderness. It is very common to check for tenderness when plating a meal. When I got home I needed to use a fork to tear the meat off the bones. Then, I actually couldn't chew the meat. Very disappointed. And, sandwich bread? Not toasted, and no butter on it? Come on. They finally opened! It's great having a BBQ place in San Jacinto! I drove by today and found out they were open and got a to go menu. Actually, it's all to go because it's a drive-thru only. It's located on the corner of Idyllwild x State. We tried the pulled pork sandwich, the beef brisket sandwich and the fried catfish plate. Everything came with 2 small sides, pickle slices and hot peppers. Great flavor but the brisket was a little fatty for a sandwich. I just pulled the piece off with the most fat and it was fine. The catfish was very light and tasty and the pulled pork was very good too. We all got the beans, which were good and I got the cole slaw, which was also good. The crew looks like they are a family all working to make this investment work, which I hope it does. The only reason they didn't get a 5 was because I think the brisket could be a little less work to eat. Otherwise, I liked it a lot and I will go back. Shredded pork was moist! Brisket beef was also very moist! Hot links are the bomb! The turkey leg was the best cook on a smoked Turkey leg, fell off the bone moist, flavorful, pink inside(as smoked meat should be), love the sauce not on the leg itself. The sides are Soooo Good, Wow! We had the candied yams, collard greens, Mac n cheese and cornbread muffins.
