We were visiting my parents who moved to Tonto Basin almost a year ago. This was the first visit to Big Daddy's for all of us (party of 6), and it didn't disappoint! When we arrived, we noticed several locals dining here, which is always a good sign! The owner, Janice, quickly said she would get to us as soon as she could, that everyone seems to order at the same time on Wednesdays so she was backed up. Luckily, we weren't in a hurry. Janice is an older woman, and it was evident she was by herself - she was the cook AND server. With the phone ringing off the hook, and the dining area nearly full, she was working her tail off. Things to know: - only cash is accepted - pizza is not available between 2;00-4:30, T, W, Th Pros: - pizza was delicious! Deep dish, plenty of cheese and toppings (toppings are actually under the cheese, not on top) crisp crust, and not too greasy! - The pizza is so thick, one pizza would have been enough for our party of 6! - The prices are decent - The owner, Janice, is super sweet Cons: - Because Janice was alone, service was slow - tables and menus were sticky and dirty Overall, we really didn't mind the cons too much because we knew this was a small business, and the pizza is worth supporting it! In the future, my parents will call in an order for pickup. FYI - Janice wasn't able to answer all the phone calls coming through, so if you call and nobody answers, try again later. The five of us went here for lunch. I was told that the pizza is big and there are lots of toppings, but I didn't realize how true that was until I got the pizza. Wow! Lots of toppings and cheese right to the edge of both pizzas we ordered. The owner waited on us and was very nice and helpful. We'll be back the next time we are in the area. Oh, my! Stupendous! Got the 14" Supreme. Sauce all the way to the edges. Mozzarella pillowed up and baked with golden highlights. Medium crust. Served at an edible temperature (not skin-blistering). Unquestionably the perfect pizza experience. Server was extremely pleasant. DIdn't get to meet the cook, but she should be teaching a university course in Pizza. Wish I lived closer! read more

Awesome pizza. The pictures don't do it justice. I drove 85 miles to buy pizza and take it home for dinner, on a Saturday evening. I arrived about 6:00 pm ,and parking lot was empty. I was wondering if It was open signs in the windows were turned on. I went inside and was greeted with a very kind elderly woman. She asked if I was picking up. I said no, I would like to order,she said most people call in their orders. She asked if I could wait a couple of minutes, she was finishing to make a couple of other pizzas for a pickup. After she placed them in the pizza oven she came to help me. I explained that I heard about this place from yelp and everyone said that it was really good, and the pictures looked really good. I gave her my order, 1 large vegetarian 1 medium cheese, she said it would take about 20 minutes. 20 minutes later I was putting the pizzas in my car wrapped up with a leg thick beach towel. 1hr 20 minutes later I was at home. Pizza was still very warm but needed a minute to nuke in microwave to get hot. My family was not disappointed. That was the best deep dish pizza I have ever had. If it was closer I would buy pizza from there every weekend. You can eat there, but I would say that it is worth the trip. read more

I never put in reviews in for a restaurant but the service here blew me away. You drive in and maybe you think you went to the wrong address on google maps because there's no fancy sign saying Big Daddy's Pizza on the property and there's no cars parked in front, but with closer inspection there is a little neon sign that says open on the window. Me and my friends go inside and are greeted by the lovely owner, and only employee there as of now! She says that the place has been very slow because the phone service has been out, and 90% of her business has gone down because of this. This is not okay! That's why I'm writing this review. Please support the lady running this restaurant and order some pizza! When we got our pizza it was great and full of delicious cheese, and stringy! Keep in mind this place only accepts cash because it's only ran by her. She's doing great for her age, (70 years old!) I have huge respect for her. probably one of the shitiest resturant I've ever been to. there's one person that works here and she can't hear for shit. my fork had food residue on it. my nephew's soda had a film over the top. It took 30 minutes just to put our order in and another 45 minutes after that to get our pizza. She came up to me and got mad because I was going in and out (because the phone service inside was shit) would've given it 0 stars if yelp would let me. 1000% never coming back to this shit hole. read more

I love this place. My favorite thing to do is buy a couple for pies and bring them home, break them into portions and freeze. There's no place to eat around if you get in late and this is the best pizza when you pull it out of the freezer and heat it up again in the oven. read more

Always a good place to meet friends and share a pizza, we usually get a large with just about everything in the kitchen on it , we don't ask for extra cheese because it always has enough. They offer a take out but no delivery. The Mexican food they offer is very good as well. read more

First time trying out Big Daddy's we had the pizza. It was huge, and my husband and I couldn't even eat half of it. It was delicious with lots of generous toppings. We had three meals from it. Second time we were there, we had the lasagne which was equally delicious. Drink prices are very reasonable. The staff are all very efficient and friendly. After a long drive through the Apache Trail, a stop at Roosevelt Dam, and a scorchingly hot hike to the cave dwellings, we were famished. We asked the park rangers for recommended places to eat on our drive back to Scottsdale via 188. He recommended this place (we almost drove right past it). The place was run by a single guy who took orders and waited tables. We ordered a specialty Mexican style pizza. I've never had anything like it. It was delicious (see picture). The beer was super cheap and served iced glasses. We had a great time cooling down at the restaurant and stuffing ourselves. I was in a state of bliss afterwards. BFE This place is in BFE--Tonto Basin in Arizona. We got there on a Friday night and I was worried--not one car in the parking lot at 7pm--yikes!! So with tremendous trepidation, we walked into the place and viola, it was divey and old furniture, but clean. We ordered one of their speciality pizzas with jalapeño peppers. It was deep dish and yummy with lots of cheese. Had the midwestern cracker type crust with corn meal to make it non-stick. I'd go back--large pizza loaded, with 2 beers and an iced tea was 27.99 and provided lunch out on the lake for 3 people the next day. Good value--decent pie!! read more

I kept hearing how great the pizza was here. So I stopped in to pick up a pizza to go. I got there when it opened. There was a table of regular old timers that were filing in. The sweet little server told me it would be about a 10 minute wait because the pizza oven had to warm up. I thought that I would just have a lemonade while I waited. But the server not only took the old timers orders but also delivered them before even coming back to my table. When he did return to my table it was only to tell me that they were working on a very large call-in Mexican food order so it would even be a longer wait. I was starving by then so I ordered one taco while I waited. He then finally took my pizza order...I should have looked at the pizza because he forgot the black olives. The pizza was ALL crust. The flavor was decent. I think I was in there a little over an hour. The server was very nice, it just appeared he was a bit overwhelmed. read more

Oh my goodness! I grew up eating taco pizza so when I saw the picture of the Mexican pizza I KNEW we just had to stop. Truly, the restaurant is immaculate. Very clean. Even the restrooms. Lots of plants around the room giving the place lots of good juju. We ate half of a medium pizza--two pieces each and were stuffed!!! The hot sauce has a bite, but is awesome on the pizza. The lettuce and tomatoes cut the spice enough so that it's the perfect sauce to go with this pizza. The salsa is also a milder option to top it off. Yummy! My tummy is smiling. read more

Went for lunch on a Saturday, got there at 11 when they open. We were invited in by a few ladies that were working there. Both ladies were very friendly! Our server was very personable. We did Brown's Peak hike and a friend with us suggested this place! We had a deep dish pizza,it totally hit the spot! It is the best deep dish pizza I've had! And I am from NY, so I've had alot of Pizza in my lifetime! It seemed like it was a small family owned place. All the food I saw come out of that kitchen look to well feed just about anyone! We had been traveling for a week and had a hankering for some pizza. Figured pickings would be slim as we drove thru the desert and then, in an inkspot of a town we saw a sign for pizza. Pulled in and were greeted by a sign on the door that said the ovens were closed while they proofed their dough. We went in anyway but the waitress reiterated that the kitchen was closed. As we were getting back in our vehicle, a very nice lady rushed out into the parking lot and said she had overheard that we were traveling and welcomed us back in. She switched the oven back on and made us the most incredible pizza! Fresh dough and toppings that were at least an inch thick topped with what had to be a pound (or more) of cheese! Fine dining this is not. However, the pizza is tasty, and the staff are very friendly. My husband is originally from AZ and his parents lived practically across the street from Big Daddy's when they retired. We ordered a 14" Picture Mountain for old times sake. His father passed away and he has fond memories of ordering a Picture Mountain with his dad and bringing it back to the house to relax on the front porch.
